Something is afoot in the lonely Cornish village of Merrymaid Bay. Rumours of dead men working in the tin mines have sent a chill through the community, and it's up to the Doctor and Charley to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Can the legends of the Bucca that haunts the mines be true? And just what awesome power do the Doctor's greatest enemies - the Daleks! - threaten to unleash upon the universe?
Recorded live at the Cadogan Hall in London in September 2024.
This is the live recording version of this story, and it is simply wonderful. Having the audience reactions, the laughter, the gasps, the applause, makes a HUGE difference. I was originally just going to pick up the studio recording (see Doctor Who: The Stuff of Legend), but I am so happy that I went ahead and got the live recording as well. It is definitely the superior version.
Listened to the studio recording first, and then this version later, and both are great in their own ways. The studio version is more polished, of course, and also more immersive; however, the live stage show is fun in a different way because of all the great audience interactions (some of the humorous lines actually hit funnier in the stage show because of that, too). Plus, among the other typical interviews at the end there's also a really fun and interesting interview with the Foley artist, who describes and demonstrates what he uses and does to make certain sound effects live, etc.). Overall, I actually liked both versions pretty much equally in amount (just in different ways), and didn't at all mind listening to the story twice in a short amount of time, as the experience is different enough between both to make both interesting. 👍
