Hi I'm Kristy and I live in the U.K. I have always written short stories and poetry. I went to university to study acting which I loved, but my real passion has always been writing. So, now I write the kind of stories I would have wanted to read as a teen. "Kiera's Quest- part one & two," a Middle-grade/ teen fantasy series, is now available on e-book and paperback. If you like shape shifters, magical realms and a chosen one, then this may be for you!
My YA contemporary romance book, "Just Sam," about a young tennis star who loses someone important and has to trust in life and love again, is available on Amazon in print & on Kindle, as is my YA/NA fairy-tale retelling, "Cinderfella." Cinderfella has all roles reversed and is aimed slightly older, as there is a little passion and darkness to this tale, but still keeps the magic of the original.
I also have a YA Paranormal Romance trilogy, 'The Summer Solstice series.' "Summer's End," book one, "Summer's Lost" (2) and "Summer's Time," are all available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited, as are all my titles.
My latest is a Modern day retelling of Romeo and Juliet with an 80's obsessed gymnast and a dyslexic rep, "The Brightest Stars."

I love reading of course. I have lots of new projects in mind, and I'm currently working on a New Adult Contemporary Romance...

This is a solid contemporary romance. I usually don’t read this genre, not a romantic.
However, the main characters of Jake (a professional footballer) and Emily (a reporter) are very well written. I also loved the caring and protective character of Ryan.
Childhood bullying has impacted on Emily’s self image.
Jake and Emily went through school together. After a number of years they are forced back together and old feelings return. There is a lot of miscommunication.
There are a couple of plot twists which held my attention. This is a sweet and endearing story

While Beauty Sleeps by Kristy Brown author ⚽️ 💄
Even now, in her late twenties with an important, responsible job, Emily Jones still can’t shake the teenage angst that had been placed upon her half a lifetime ago. It probably didn’t help that she was living with her best friend, a friendship cemented during that time, that day in fact….the day of the beef crisps that was an unfortunate pre-cursor to ‘the incident’. The humiliation that was to follow, the wet towels, being stood up, and the gravy….oh, the gravy, had haunted her ever since. Therefore when a misfortune befalls her confidante and soul mate of fourteen years who just happens to be accompanied by the one person whom she holds responsible for her teenage trauma, and her job putting her in the position of having to show a very keen interest, Emily is transported back to the day of Eliza’s elaborate birthday party, fumbling in the dark amongst the coats, waiting to receive her very first kiss. 📓 ✏
I was drawn to this book for its simple but colourful cover, and I have to be honest, the title put me in mind of my favourite film, ‘While You Were Sleeping’ which made me want to read it more, random but there it is. As soon as I started reading, I knew that I was going to love it and that this narrative would be just my type of read. Kristen’s writing is so wonderfully expressive when writing the dialogue for her characters, as well as, the descriptive parts of the novel. I was impressed at how comprehensively the account of the football match was put across to the reader. Her depiction of every scene is written so beautifully clearly. The characters’ actions and re-actions were exactly as if I was reading the re-telling of a story between real people. She has given each of them such defined personalities that I could just imagine them interacting with each other. This author clearly has such a sense of humour, some of the scenes had me in tears of laughter to the point that I struggled to compose myself enough to see the page. The language used by the characters was very real. Some authors will shy away from using blasphemous speak, but I think it gives the narrative a fuller character, whether to make it grittier, in the case of a dark narrative, or in this case to increase humour and the personality of the main players. After all, in real life we as real people utilise swear words in times of high stress, anger or irritation, so why wouldn’t book characters? It might need to be something that is mentioned at the beginning of the book, different people have different sensibilities. Not as a trigger as such but just to safeguard it being read to or given as a gift to someone of an inappropriate age maybe. The chapters are a nice length and the book doesn’t feel arduous to read at all, mostly due to the wit injected and its fast pace that keeps you focussed. 📖
It is clever how the author has given her main character Emily, a job that means that she has to pursue what has happened in what some would see as an intrusive manner, but because of her association with the people involved, this would never be an issue. It sets up the scene and the narrative perfectly and puts Emily in an unenviable, appallingly sad and awkward situation where she must make a decision between her morals or her career. Thankfully there is Carol to put her on course, turning the situation around so that it benefits and safeguards both her friendship and her job. The narrative drew a lot of parallels with the wonderful Bridget Jones, especially the scene where Jake refers to her only by her surname. I am a big fan of Bridget so this made me smile. The pairing of Emily with Ryan was pure gold. Every woman needs a Ryan and his dialogue had me in stitches. Such a wonderful relatable situation that a number of readers may identify with. The bond between them was very evident and touching. The way he calls her ‘my Emily’, and his keenness to be there for her made me smile. It brought back memories of a similar situation I had many years ago. Emily’s thought that Ryan’s accent gets broader the more emphatic he is, surprised me as I hadn’t imagined him with this accent. It also made me laugh as I know people who exhibit this characteristic, myself included. Emily’s consideration and concern towards her friend when she hopes that where her mind has gone isn’t dark, as she is afraid of the dark, is moving and such an inspired ‘addition’ for the author to have thought of, outside of the normal narrative. This extra facet to Emily gives the reader an idea as to what a thoughtful, special person she must be, and not only her, but the person writing it. 🖤
The dynamic between Emily and Jake was a bit frustrating but you have to give Emily credit for putting her long term friendship front and centre over everything and considering the impact on Eliza that could occur as a result of events, whilst she is unable to control her narrative, even when it would be so easy to give in. I thought the ‘conversations’ that Emily had with her were lovely moments. The flashbacks told in italics, allow the reader to really get a handle on why Emily still feels like she does and what has lead to the situation that she now finds herself in. Plus details of the oath so very seriously considered in their younger years, that now is in danger of being broken, or maybe already has. The way in which Emily is quick to jump to her own conclusions with Jake rather than hear him out, I think is initially to stop her doing anything she might regret, or may have to explain to Eliza but when she constantly re-buffs him, principally after events after the break in, it did start to become slightly annoying. The scene in the hotel after they have been in the bar is possibly one of the funniest things I have ever read, and Emily waking up the next day with Ryan coming to her aid and admonishing her behaviour like a naughty child, is a brilliant segment which the book is worth reading for alone. Kristen most definitely has it nailed when it comes to humour. I can’t praise her ability to write a funny scene enough. 🍸🍸🍸
The author makes good use of the character of the little boy, to ensure that Emily sees Jake’s softer side, making her insides go squishy. I myself am a wheelchair user, and the thought of a good looking young man pushing a young boy around a football pitch made me go squishy too, I have to say. 🧑‍🦽
The relationship between Emily and her mum is a very heart warming one. They are so open with each other and her mum seems so intuitive of her daughter’s life events from the past and her feelings, both then and now. The scene during which her and Ryan visit Emily’s childhood home and the conversation between the three of them is a joy. ♥️
My top three funny moments from ‘While Beauty Sleeps’are:
Emily and Jake in his hotel room after being in the bar where Emily is worse for wear……
Emily’s description of how Jake affects her ‘lady parts’ was so unexpected, it just made it funnier…...
Simone entering the toilets whilst Ryan is attempting to calm Emily down. Simone’s decision that her entrance has been badly timed is written so seamlessly……
I’m not usually one for schmaltzy endings, but the scene where Emily asks Jake how it feels to have everything he has ever wanted, and the text he sends her was a proper soppy moment. 📱
The Epilogue was a really fabulous way to finish the story, making a personal moment fittingly public in the best way. 🎤📻
Kristen is a wonderful addition to my list of authors, her having written nine books, I may be playing ‘catch up’ for a while, but I am very happy to do so. 📖

✨️✨️✨️ REVIEW: ✨️✨️✨️

I don't think I had the official copy of this one, so it had some typos and grammatical errors in it, but it wasn't a turn off and overall it was a really cute story. I absolutely adored Ryan, the camera man, and Jake's sister, I feel like they were the best characters in the book. Ryan for his unconditional love and support and the sister (I'm blanking on her name) for her bluntness and hard truth. 💜

Emily... she was a hard pill to swallow, for me at least; she was very dramatic. I had the secret figured out really early on and was getting more and more annoyed at Jake for not just telling her. But when he DID try, she'd freak out and run away again. It was a whole thing. 💀 Overall, he was a great character, but they both need to work on their communication skills... as with 98% of all rom-coms.

The ending totally made the book though, it was super sweet. And I did love some of their monologues throughout. There were some very quotable moments.

✨️✨️✨️ FAVE QUOTES: ✨️✨️✨️

"Before I could blink, the rough tongue snaked back into its hole." (describing their first kiss, as kids, in a closet at a party 🙈)

"'Woman, ask me that again and I'll go for a really, ridiculously long piss.' His eyes narrow and I get the message. Jake looks at us like we are talking in a secret code. Which I guess we are. The Piss Code. It's not pretty, but it's effective."

✨️✨️✨️ RATING SYSTEM: ✨️✨️✨️

5⭐️ Could not put down and will think about for days or weeks to come. Will definitely reread.
4⭐️ Could not put down, would probably reread
3⭐️ Great story, but could set it aside and take my time with it
2⭐️ Good story, feel the need to finish and know what happens, but not the best
1⭐️ Probably should have stopped reading, but didn't for some reason and here we are. Very rarely used.

Sometimes you just need a lovely, light-hearted read, and While Beauty Sleeps was exactly that for me. I don't usually gravitate towards contemporary romance, being much more of a romantasy reader, but this sweet, heartwarming story was a very welcome change of pace.

The story follows Emily Jones, an aspiring journalist whose best friend, Eliza, is left in a coma following a car accident. When Emily is asked to cover the story, things become rather complicated. Eliza's lover happens to be Jake, a famous footballer who was also Emily's childhood crush and nemesis. Their shared history is far from pleasant, and Emily must somehow remain professional while confronting painful memories she'd rather leave buried.

Although this is predominantly a light, cosy romance with plenty of rom-com charm, there are some darker elements woven throughout. Bullying, grief, a stalker and a few unexpected dangers all add intrigue to the story. However, these moments are handled well and never overshadow the warmth and humour that make the book such an enjoyable read.

I really liked Emily. She's a lovely character, although she could be a bit of a nightmare at times! But as her past unfolds, it's easy to understand why she behaves the way she does. Jake, on the other hand, was an absolute sweetheart. He's kind, caring and thoroughly likeable. Honestly, who wouldn't fall for him?

And then there's Ryan, Emily's best friend and colleague, who provided some wonderful humour. I loved the lighter moments between the characters, and there were plenty that made me smile.

The romance itself was genuinely sweet and heartwarming. There were a couple of little twists along the way, although nothing that particularly surprised me. But this wasn't a book I needed to be shocked by. I simply wanted to relax, enjoy the characters and lose myself in a good story, and that's exactly what happened.

The writing was easy to follow, the pacing was comfortable, and the mixture of romance, humour and a little suspense kept things interesting without becoming overly complicated.

Overall, While Beauty Sleeps was a charming, feel-good read with likeable characters, a lovely romance and just enough intrigue to keep the pages turning. It was exactly the palate cleanser I needed, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A very well-deserved 4.5 stars from me. Definitely a winner!

While Beauty Sleeps by Kristy Brown is a charming and engaging read that delivers a delightful mix of fun, flirty writing and a well-paced plot. From the first page, Brown’s ability to craft witty dialogue and relatable characters pulls the reader in, making it a fast and enjoyable read.

The story, which centers around Emily and her opportunity to cover the story of her career, but first she has to move past the hurts of her past, is filled with light-hearted moments and engaging dynamics. Brown’s writing style is particularly noteworthy—her prose is sharp, playful, and full of energy, making it easy to get lost in the narrative. The pacing is spot on, with each chapter leaving you wanting just a bit more before moving on to the next.

One of the standout elements of the book is the supporting character, Ryan, who provides valuable depth and encouragement to the protagonist. His presence adds warmth to the story and highlights the importance of friendship and support in the midst of personal growth and romance. These side characters truly complement the central plot, offering both humor and heart.

However, while the book is largely enjoyable, there is one element that may be off-putting for some readers: the miscommunication trope. At times, the misunderstandings between characters felt a bit frustrating and repetitive, making it harder to connect with the story’s emotional beats. It’s a common romantic-comedy trope, but here it occasionally stretched the plausibility of the characters' actions.

Overall, While Beauty Sleeps is an enjoyable, feel-good book that will appeal to fans of romantic comedies and light-hearted fiction. Despite the minor frustrations with the miscommunication plot device, Brown's skillful writing and lovable characters make it a fun and rewarding read.

While Beauty Sleeps

Publisher: Kristy Brown
Publication Date: December 6, 2024

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet & spicy tangle of fame, feelings, and one very public grudge.

This was such a delightful surprise of a read. While Beauty Sleeps combines the high drama of celebrity scandal with the heartfelt ache of teenage humiliation that just never quite goes away. At the center of it all is Emily—aspiring journalist, loyal friend, and emotionally traumatized woman-on-a-mission to keep her cool… which she mostly doesn’t.

When Emily’s best friend (a supermodel, no less!) ends up in a coma and the prime suspect is none other than Emily’s former crush-turned-nemesis, Jake Adams, she’s offered the story of a lifetime. The only catch? She has to interview the man who once shattered her adolescent self-worth like a dropped mirrorball.

Let’s just say: sparks fly, secrets smolder, and communication goes spectacularly sideways. As in, you’re-arguing-in-the-hospital-hallway-while-your-bestie’s-in-a-coma kind of sideways.

What I Loved:

💜 Ryan, the cameraman, is the emotional MVP.
💜 Jake’s sister was a queen of blunt wisdom and hilarious one-liners.
💜 The pacing made it perfect for a weekend or beach read—easy to fall into and hard to put down.
💜 The romantic tension was palpable but never overdone. A perfect enemies-to-lovers slow burn.
💜 That ending? Chef’s kiss. Satisfying, emotional, and surprisingly tender.

If you love rom-coms with heart, sass, a touch of spice, and a satisfying emotional payoff, While Beauty Sleeps is a great pick. And if you’ve ever wanted to tell off your childhood crush and maybe kiss him later… well, you’ll feel right at home.

I honestly loved this book, it was such an easy read definitely a good little palette cleanser this isn’t very long so you’ll definitely love this book if you love romance with a twist and need a quick book to get through. I’m not normally a big fan of the mis communication trope and don’t get me wrong it still completely infuriated me and I was shouting at the book for Jake to just tell her what’s going on but I also enjoyed it in this book and it was done very well. My one gripe with this book is it wasn’t long enough I wanted to know more about the character and just more in general I’m just being greedy.

There was many laugh out loud moments within this and I enjoyed that even with heavy stuff happening it was good to see her still have banter. I loved all the characters in this book especially Ryan, Emily’s camera man but also her friend seeing their friendship was really lovely.

This book was about Jake who is a footballer he was in a car accident with his super model girlfriend Eliza and than Emily is a journalist who has a history with both of them, Eliza is her best friend and Jake was her first love I know I know what is her best friend playing at right! We find out within this that Emily was bullied in school and she really struggled with that and it really made her have many insecurities seeing that throughout this book was really sad, it definitely kept me wanting more throughout and I was desperate to find out the ending. I read this book in one sitting and stayed up way too late reading it.

This book was given to me for FREE as an ARC. The review is my own opinion and not forced by the author.

This was such a fun read. I chose this one expecting a light romance, but it ended up having a lot more emotional depth than I anticipated. Emily was easy to root for, and I really enjoyed watching her navigate her complicated feelings toward Jake while also dealing with everything happening with Eliza.

The story kept me turning pages because I genuinely wanted to know what had happened in the and how all the relationships would unfold. There were several moments that made me laugh, and others that hit surprisingly hard emotionally.

My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that there were a few sections that felt a little longer than they needed to be, and I found myself wanting certain conflicts to be resolved a bit sooner. That said, the characters had great chemistry, and I was invested from beginning to end.

Overall, this was an enjoyable, heartfelt romance with memorable characters and plenty of drama, humor, and emotion. I'd definitely read more from this author if I can get another chance to read some of her work.

Emily is so tired of reporting on broken stop lights and lost pets. She wants to be a real journalist. When she gets assigned the next big story - pro-footballer Jake Adams and his girlfriend are in a wreck - she thinks this may be her big break. That is, until she finds out the girlfriend is her best friend, Eliza. So many questions which need answers, and Emily just happens to be in the right place at the right time. But will the answers bring up past feelings for Jake and all of the humiliation of middle school she had hoped to forget?

A fast read, Kristy Brown creates a suspenseful story about misunderstandings and tough decisions. Experiencing the story from Emily’s perspective was perfect. All of the emotions from high school came flooding back, creating an empathetic bond with the character. Having one of the characters in a coma and the waiting game of finding out if and when she awakes, how she will alter the story kept me reading. It’s a fun rom-com with a little bit of spice and a lot of heart.

Kristy Brown does is again with a classic miscommunication trope and a heartbreaking backstory of high school bullying trauma. Emily's best friend, Liza, and her worst enemy, Jake, are in a car accident leaving Liza in a coma. Emily is asked to report on it by Liza's mother and she is thrown together with Jake, who had a hand in Emily's high school bullying.

The attraction between them is undeniable, with the biggest problem being: isn't Jake dating Liza?

There is quite a lot of back and forth with Emily, and if I were Jake, I might not be so tenacious. But Emily is a very vivid character, and she goes through a lot of emotions in this book that you definitely feel connected to her. She is fierce, yet vulnerable. And Jake seems like a golden retriever, leaving the reading questioning what really happened in high school?

Don't worry, after the ups and downs we are left with an HEA!

“But I won’t kiss you. Can’t Kiss you. Not now. Not like this. Just know this, you were my first Kiss, and even after all this time, and how much you want to hate me, I want to be your last”
SCREAMING, GIGGLING, KICKING MY FEET.

I LOVED this book. I’ve read a few books by Kristy already but this one was by far my favorite. The story was interesting and so were the characters. I really liked the dynamic between Jake and Emily.

The writing style reminds me a bit of “Daisey Jones and the six”. Something you need to get used to at first but definitly a fun way of writing. It’s very movie-script like, so it makes it easy to see a little movie in your head while reading 🥰

Kristy has a a way of writing longing so beautifully. She has this way to make me think about my first loves, about how it felt, she makes love love again. What would you do if you find out your childhood crush is back in your life but as your best friend's boyfriend, I mean you can't even imagine all my feelings while reading this, I could feel the betrayal but then again not really wanting to believe it, trying to rationalize everything, trying to keep your distance. But love and longing has a way of coming back in full force and ofcourse it doesn't help when your crush just keeps on flirting with you even tho you try to keep it professional.

I loved everything. This book is a wild ride full of flirting, secrets, banter, familie ties, friendships to adore, it has it all. It's really and easy read, it made me forget time and I was fully immersed in this book. It is a closed door romance but the pining and the flirting totally make up for it.

Cute quick read! would recommend to people looking for something from an indie author, gave me "While you were sleeping" kind of vibes.

I did get frustrated at times with the lead lady constantly running away or not answering calls/messages when people (mainly the lead male) were trying to explain things to her.

I also felt there were a few times in the story where I might have missed something previously as something was brought up as if they had talked about it before but I was able to quickly catch on to what was going on.

Supermodel ✅ Footballer ✅ journalist ✅

This has been a delight to read and I raced through this in just one sitting. I was desperate to see how this was going to unfold.

Brown writes in a way that really pulls you in. You can’t help but be transported to the pages. It’s like you’re watching the events unfold in front of you.

This has given me a number of laugh out loud moments, but also moments where I’ve been emotional. The ending has been really satisfying and I’ve loved it.

This book is my first by this author but it definitely won’t be the last. Brilliantly written and full of gorgeous characters.

This is a book I have no hesitation in recommending to other readers.

This was such a cute read! I’ve liked every book I have read by this author. We follow Emily as she is on her journey to become the best news reporter she can be! But when a celebrity and a super model get into a car accident she is the reporter for the job! Not by coincidence either. Now she has to face her past and everything and everyone from it. But can she handle the big secret or is her life turning upside down? I loved following Emily and watching her grow as a character and following her journey.

Thank you for letting me read this book for exchange for a review I really enjoyed it!

From obscurity to the reporter's desk, Emily Jones carried a hidden truth: a possible rekindling of her high school infatuation. The object of her affection, Jake, had soared to professional football stardom, and rumor had it he was involved with Emily's best friend, Eliza. When a car accident unexpectedly intertwines their lives, Emily's long-dormant feelings for Jake begin to resurface. Adding to the complexity, she finds herself ironically assigned to report on him, a task that forces her to navigate her personal emotions while shaping his public perception.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming and lighthearted romance and I’ve devoured it in just one sitting!

The authors writing style was truly captivating and I felt like I was actually there, in the story with all the fantastic characters!

Supermodel, footballer and an aspiring journalist, do I need to say more? The mix of romance, suspense and comedy followed by a lovely twist towards the ending was just a perfect combination and balanced this story so well.

Just what I needed on a cold Autumn’s evening and I’ve loved every minute in the book! Would highly recommend to all!

This storyline is dramatic and has plenty of facepalm moments throughout. But the characters draw you in and have you cheering them on from the start! I truly loved Ryan's character as he was truly a definition of a supportive best friend to Emily! A great quick read!
