The Executive Assistant is a steamy workplace romance between a female CEO and her handsome personal assistant. It features a career-focused heroine, a confident hero, and a guaranteed HEA
I normally don’t read non fantasy romance but this book instantly caught my eye and I’m so happy that I picked it up.
Normally when I see books like this it’s the male who is the billionaire and it’s the woman that’s the assistant and it was so good to read a book that was the opposite because women can be bosses too!
Being able to read about the struggles that Alison goes through because she is a female CEO and how the stereotypes about it all made her struggle so much throughout life. The pressures put on her by her own parents because of how much they’ve worked in life and how hard it is to convince yourself to have a work life balance when you’re such a high position of power.
I loved being able to read about the journey between Alison and Cameron and the many struggles they went through to be together because of how society perceives them and the changes they have to force upon themselves to make it work.
I went into this book expecting a smutty book with some plot and instead I found a wholesome romance, great plot with some 🥵 scenes.
Well this was… disappointing. When I saw that for once the FMC was the CEO with this supposedly in the „power position“ I was hyped. However this was not the case.
This was just overall underwhelming. The writing style was just bland and the story wasn’t giving anything. I get that trying to get across that working isn’t everything is important, but this was just to on the nose.
The FMC and MMC also had zero chemistry in my opinion. The spice scenes were just badly written and could’ve been left out of the book, however that would’ve also cut 1/4 of the book. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind spice, but not like this.
I also felt like even tho the roles were supposed to be reversed (since the MMC is usually the CEO and the FMC is the secretary) this was just reversed roles with the same characteristics. The concept was good, the implementation sadly (for a lack of a better word) sucked.
This is a quick read on the go. A forbidden workplace romance between a CEO and her executive assistant.
Alison is a workaholic, always trying to stay ahead and be prepared for anything. Cameron is always trying to reduce the work for her and help her relax and reduce her stress.
While this is a quick read, the story was not exactly what I had expected. There were a lot of scenes for work and sex but a few about their relationship development. I would have preferred if there were fewer chapters on that and more chapters on their relationship.
I would have also liked a better glimpse of what their future looks like instead of the last chapter, which just gave us an update of what is happening in their lives. By this, I mean like maybe seeing them getting married or engaged or them interacting with their families.
Most books are just a check out from reality for a while. This one had some good points we all need to do in life. Find that balance we all need it and deserve it as well. You can’t keep going and never stop to just rest. Allison needed to learn that lesson and Cameron was just the best to do it. He was kind and understanding. They both fit so well together.
