Although Ms. Peters does say a lot about the style in Charlotte Bronte's novels, she also describes the characters and their struggles in a way that clarified my thoughts about them. I had to respect her judgments and criticisms of the books, even when they didn't coincide with my emotional reactions, and I also felt that she had a realistic view of Bronte's prickly personality. I'm glad I got a chance to read it, and I may search out her biography of Charlotte Bronte and her family.
Dry and dense, but to be expected for what it was. Discussed Ms. Bronte's use of adverbs, antithesis, legal/courtroom language and syntactic inversion.
