True Scotsman #2

The Highland Fling

Rate this book
I'm done with men.

For the last eighteen months, I've thrived as a single woman, dedicating my time and energy to self-care and healing.

But at my best friend's engagement party, I'm irresistibly drawn to Aidan Stewart, a handsome Scot with mesmerising sky-blue eyes, tousled dirty-blond hair, and a playboy reputation. I've heard all about his "one-and-done policy".

Once I would have run from men like him, but I'm no longer seeking commitment either. So why not give in to the attraction?

Back in bustling London, I brush aside the memory of that night and push on with my life. Fate, however, has a surprise in store: a positive result on a pregnancy test.

The prospect of motherhood terrifies me but I summon the courage to embrace it. I'm a strong, independent woman who can raise this child on my own.

What baffles me is Aidan's sudden interest in me. He's not the type to cling to old-fashioned notions of "doing the right thing". What is it he wants? And more importantly, what is it I want?

---

The Highland Fling is the second novel in the True Scotsman series of interconnected standalones.

Big city meets small town in this love story set between London and the Scottish Highlands. Expect teasing banter, heart-warming moments, and a scene where there's only one bed. ❤️

Yet again, Amy McGavin (Amy and Gavin) did a beautiful job writing this second book! I loved the chemistry between Aiden and Grace and found myself really rooting for Aiden as he endeavored to prove his love despite his past reputation. It was a very enjoyable read and I highly recommend it!

**The Highland Fling (True Scotsman Book 2) by Amy McGavin**

At their best friends' engagement party, Emily and Alistair, Aiden and Grace end up hooking up. Since neither is interested in anything more serious, this encounter seems sufficient for both. Aiden Stewart follows a "one-and-done" policy regarding relationships, while Grace, having recently ended a relationship, finds the encounter adequate. However, the plot takes a compelling turn when Grace returns to London and discovers she is pregnant. Aiden lives in Bannock, Scotland, and Grace lives in London. What will Aiden do when he learns he is going to be a father?

I absolutely enjoy well-crafted Scottish romances, and I found the first book in this series by Amy McGavin (Amy and Gavin) to be delightful. I was eagerly looking forward to book two since we had already met Aiden and Grace in the first instalment. The chemistry between Aiden and Grace is particularly engaging, even though they were not the central focus of the previous story. Now with their own book, we get to learn more about these characters and witness their thoughtful development, making readers invested in their journey. The tightly woven plot, combined with well-drawn characters, features clever banter and several laugh-out-loud moments that enhance the overall reading experience.

I received an advance review copy from Booksirens and the author for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I couldn’t wait to open my ARC of The Highland Fling! I was introduced to Bannock in January when I read The Highland Kiss, and after devouring every page, I knew I was absolutely invested in the lives of Grace and Aidan. Even though they weren’t the center of the first story, their characters were so well built, I felt as though I was invested in what came next for their novel. And oh baby, was this a fun read!
Bannock, the sweetly imagined, small town in the Highlands, welcomes the reader back, as Grace accompanies her brother from London after he’s decided it’s time to move in with his boyfriend.
There’s only one problem…a few weeks prior, Grace and Aidan had a fling during Emily and Ally’s engagement party, and the evidence of their night together is quickly wreaking havoc on Grace’s senses.
Grace had chosen to stay single while she figured out her own self. Aiden was content being the town play boy with a wam, bam, thank you mam reputation. Together, they are forced to grow, and find strength in each other as well as those around them. It’s not an easy road, but their story is sweet, and they both become two people you’ll want to both cry and cheer for.

This is a really enjoyable, fun and sexy read. The sort of book you could read by the pool, the fire, on the plane. Anywhere you want a bit of escapism and a hot Scotsman to keep you company.

The story is really tightly plotted and the characters well drawn out with some really amusing banter and a few laugh out loud moments. Aidan and Grace and the surrounding cast felt very real to me. It is easy to stereotype hot Scotsmen but Aidan is presented as three dimensional with faults as well as good looks and a huge 'willy'. :)

I looked forward to picking this book up and the characters and setting stayed with me afterwards which is always a good sign. The next book promises to be just as good, and, personally, I am looking forward to Jamie's story as he seems quite the character.

A highly recommended read.

Love a great Scottish romance, and so loved the first book in this series. I really loved reading about Aiden & Grace’s journey, and can’t wait for book 3! At times, Grace’s personality was a wee bit annoying with her constant second guessing of herself, but that is part of her journey and I was here for the duration. I was very thankful to receive an advance review copy in exchange for my honest review. Amy McGavin has definitely become a favorite writing duo of mine and would absolutely read whatever they write, as it’s always endearing and addicting. Thanks so much, Amy & Gavin!! Looking forward to more!!

Grace gets together with Aidan at their best friends' engagement party. Grace returns to London and soon discovers her one night with Aidan has left her with more than she bargained for. However, she is still getting over her last failed relationship and Aidan is not relationship material and based in Bannock, Scotland so there can definitely be no future together. But David, Grace's twin moves to Bannock and when she visits at Christmas Aidan finds out he is going to be a father. Drama follows as they try to work out how they are going to be parents. Another epic read in this series.

Book two in this series is just as addictive and satisfying as the first!!

The dynamic between Grace and Aiden, and their unforeseen connection, was fun. They both had reservations about the future and the compromises it would require, but I was delighted with how their happily ever after unfolded. The text was so engaging and well-written that I finished reading it much more quickly than expected.

The town’s charm is instantly captivating; its familiar inhabitants make you feel welcome and at home. The outpouring of support and genuine friendship for this couple was enjoyable. These stories are a must read; I am enjoying my time in the Highlands. :)

I appreciate receiving this ARC (thank you), and I happily leave my review. I will continue my binge read, and look forward to the next story.

The second in the True Scotsman series.
Highland fling by Amy McGavin.
It’s like catching up with old friends you haven’t seen in a while. I recommend reading Highland Kiss first! But then the castle scene is so worth it 🥵
Adian is such a sweet heart and definitely falls first. Grace is strong but sometimes I wish she would get out of her own way! But then with a mother like hers I cant really blame her!!
This book has all the best tropes
💙 Accidental pregnancy
💙 He falls first
💙Reformed playboy
💙 Opposites attract
💙 Banter
💙 Spice
I can’t wait for The Highland Crush! 😍😍

This time we pick up where we left off.... two missing people from the party.

Grace is a yoga instructor and best pal to Emily. She works and loves London with her twin David!
After a break up she has sworn off all men... in walks the local sleep around Aiden. He has always been open he only wants physical not feelings and is a notorious one night only kinda guy.....relationships are a no no... 😏 Maybe watching his best pal Ally fall for Emily (book 1) may change his opinion.

The banter between these two are amazing! I love there dynamic and they are the definition of opposites attract. I love that dispite being an independent woman, grace is willing to lean on Aiden and the growth from Aiden like night and day! Love it.

I will put my hands up... I am not a lover of the pregnancy trope, surprise, secret, appearing after years with a 6year old with here is your kid surprise kinda vibe (not in this book) its just not for me...but I did enjoy this dynamic, it was really well written and even though it was a focal point in the book... it wasn't at the same time!

I love this wee town, and our favourite sibling crew appear regularly and Grace and David's mother.... well we don't talk about her right now 😅

An Accidental Pregnancy with a Scotsman

Grace and Aidan hook up at Grace’s friend and Aidan’s brother’s engagement party. Aidan is a one and done guy and that’s fine with Grace until she finds herself pregnant. This is a fun read with family conflict and character growth. It can easily be read as a standalone, but you’d definitely enjoy reading The Highland Kiss first.

Grace and Aiden

Aiden and Grace are best friends with Emily and Alistair. Since neither are interested in more than casual, one night together seems enough. But life has other plans and their story is one of taking time to learn about each other. A couple of plot twists thrown in make you cheer for Grace and Aiden. Great book!

Aidan is the MMC us ladies all dream of. He was sweet, forgiving but firm, and truly loved grace. This was a very sweet romance with the right amount of spice to get my cheeks a bit hot 🤭🤭 I am so grateful to have gotten to read this! Where’s my Aidan???

Very cute and spicy read. With the most cinnamon roll like MMC lol

I highly recommend this series. These books are quick and easy reads and they wrap everything up beautifully with the HEA We are all looking for 🩵🩵

I couldn’t run fast enough, back to Bannock. This second book about this Highland village and its people couldn’t be nicer. It feels like home, it’s hot and steamy and so so cosy. I loved it and know now more than ever that my heart belongs to Scotland…

This is the second book in the series. At the end of the first book we get a glimpse of what happens with Grace and Aiden. This book is their story. After a one night stand (which both parties agreed to), Grace discovers she is pregnant. She hides it until her best friend accidentally discovers the truth and spills the beans to their friends (including Aiden). Grace is determined to do it on her own but Aiden insists on being involved. The more they get to know each other, the more they like each other. We learn if Grace and Aiden decide to make a go of it as a couple or just stay friends and co-parents.
I liked the book and it was a great follow up to the first book. This story didn't make me laugh as much as the first book but was very enjoyable. I am interested in reading the next books in the series.

Great Book Again!!!

I love the setting, the characters, the two drastically different cities, all the friends, everyone except her mother! I had one of those! I love stories where the two main characters are seemingly treading water and learning how to swim into this relationship. Discoveries are rarely made without a lot of stress and confusion, but it can happen!

If you havent read either book by @amymcgavinbooks you need to get on it.They are brilliant 👌 Amy and Gavin sure know how to write both sides of a relationship! The story of Aidan and Grace was really well told. You fall in love with Aidan, and his cheeky chappy personality really makes you laugh! Some well written 🌶 in there too. Loved checking in on the characters from book 1 too.
Gutted to have finished it so quickly! Roll on book 3 I say!!

Okay, I will be honest, I am not usually a fan of a surprise pregnancy after a one night stand trope - but The Highland Fling was so much more than that! It is not easy doing a lovers to friends to lovers plot line, but this one was too frigging adorable! Aidan is the sweetest cinnamon role/sunshine MMC that you can’t help loving, and it was so lovely to watch his and Grace’s relationship grow over the course of the book. Also, this gave me a major itch to travel to the Scottish highlands - not me googling to see if there was a real Bannock in Scotland (I was sorely disappointed).

Thank you so much to the authors (Amy and Gavin) for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Please note that all ratings and reviews indicated above are entirely my own.

Great story!

Aiden owns an adventure company with his best friend Ally. Ally’s girlfriend has a best friend, Grace. Aiden saw her and was going to get her but Ally said to stay away. Aiden would never settle down. He only had sex once and then it was over. On one night when he had drank abit and Grace also, she grabbed him and they went up stairs. Now she is pregnant and things are crazy. You have to read this story of two people coming to understand what truly matters in life.

Whiny FMC

I have never read a book with a more whiny, selfish, immature female main character. Grace does nothing to deserve Aidan.

This story is a follow-up to The Highland Kiss and centres on Grace and Aidan's relationship.

After a one night stand at Ally and Emily's engagement party, Grace finds out she is pregnant with Aidan's baby. With her living in London, him living in Bannock, and a disapproving mother, can they make this work?

It is a beautiful story of unexpected pregnancy, getting to know each other, and slow burn romance. There are laughs and tears, but this is just truly heartwarming, and although I wasn't in Scotland to read this one, the Scottish accents were still with me 🥰

I definitely still want to hear Lewis and Jamie's stories 😉
