We're not here to take part, we're here to take over…

Prequel - The Takeover

Brad Miller has carved up dozens of companies in his meteoric rise to the top. Retro is just another company headed by a stubborn owner who doesn't want to let go. But Brad has him by the balls, and he knows it. The only play he has left is his daughter, the beautiful and talented Alyssa Pierce. Her father adds a stipulation at the last minute that Brad must keep Alyssa on as COO.

What Mr. Pierce didn't foresee was the magnetic attraction between the two and how neither Brad nor Alyssa can keep their hands to themselves. Brad storms down the hallway to have a word with his new partner, only to find her waiting for him. When he shuts the door, the heat begins to rise. All his negotiating skills go out the window, leaving Brad with a decision to make. Will he allow Alyssa into his heart or force her back to the bargaining table?

Book 1 - Love Notes

I stood in the elevator, all my things in a cardboard box. Surrounding me, nearly every other employee clutched their own belongings, all of us let go on the same day. The nerve of that man! After taking over as CEO, Brad Miller kicked us all out. I would never forgive him for that.

Just three months later, there was a job posting for his assistant, and I seized the chance to win my way back into the company. I was going to make him sorry he ever bought the tech design firm. Behind the scenes, I would do whatever it took to right his horrific wrong and welcome all my friends back to their old jobs.

However, I wasn't counting on his alarming good looks, or the way he made me feel whenever he walked by.

When he had me book a luxury business trip to Paris, I nearly forgot all about sabotaging him. That is until he made it very clear that he was looking for more than just an assistant.

Book 2 - Fine Print

Nothing in fine print is ever good news…

The question of the missing money haunted me. Brad Miller, CEO and owner of the Retro art design and technology company, had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from his former employees. Or had he? I didn't know, and the lingering doubts made it difficult to work alongside him.

Sexy and intelligent, he was as dedicated in the bedroom as he was in the boardroom. I should know; I gave into temptation one night on a business trip. I found myself falling for him, trusting him with all my heart even though my rational mind warned me to stop.

What if he really did steal all that money? Did I even want to know, or was that something best kept secret?

I found this author Lexy Timms for free via Amazon, (maybe a BookBub promo…? because that’s where I try new-to-me contemporary romance authors.) I love billionaire romances. But I found this story to have a lot of long “telling” exposition throughout and super slow to get hooked. I liked the main characters and that is what kept me skimming through my kindle—I always want to know how they get together and if it’s believable. I thought their chemistry was hit or miss, with some believability issues about her role with the company, how they communicated expectations, and the buyout/takeover employee compensation discovery issue. For a billionaire, he really doesn’t seem to have any of the correct financial managers in place; has no pulse on the health of the company; it read almost as if he was running the place with a staff of 20. It didn’t read like a real company. The romantic vibe in Paris started great and then kinda just stopped. But I stuck with it because I wanted to see how it was all going to come together. And then after a harebrained break-in incident, it ended. I thought a box set indicated that the story would wrap up in that set. But it doesn’t. Sadly, I don’t feel invested in the story or the characters enough to buy the next to get to the resolution. I can assume they get a happily-ever-after.
Thanks for the promo read.

I don’t DNF very often, but this was a DNF for me. No chemistry between characters, no build up of a story other than some billionaire that has no personality, takes over struggling companies and dismantles them, and decides that he can do better with a company than the previous owner, even though he’s never run one before.. I got to page 182 of 484 before I decided that it’s just not worth the read when there are so many books out there. I’ve lived so many others by Lexy Timms, but this set is just not for me.

Deal or No Deal

Brad buys a company and is expected to keep previous owners daughter on as COO per the deal and the previous owner was to give all employees that were let go a severance. Soon Brad learns that the severance was never paid, Alysa decided to move to Paris. What happened to the severance money?

Loved them. Great story line and it moves along at a good pace. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

What a Ripoff!

This is basically one story (actually not even a full story!), chopped up into three small pieces masquerading as a “boxed set”.

A lot of the verbiage is the overly dramatic ruminations of either the hero or the heroine. Not very much action at all and some of that are poor decisions that you would think these characters intelligent enough not to make.

Ultimately you’re left hanging. There is no conclusion, you’ll have to buy that.
