This anthology contains 3 novellas that, one way or another, involve the hero rescuing the heroine from a dangerous situation. Besides the common premise, there isn't any connection between the stories, so you can read them in any order.
Tropical Heat by Cherry Adair (3 stars)
Sam Pelton has been in love with Dr. Elizabeth Goodall since he met her 2 years ago, but she was in the middle of getting divorced from her cheating husband so he stayed away. Sam doesn't want to be Beth's "transitional lover", so he's giving her the time he thinks she needs to get over her ex. Little does he know that she's also been more than ready to get down and dirty with him since they met... When she's kidnapped (by mistake) by some stupid terrorists in Africa, Sam rushes to her rescue... and we all know what happens when Ms. Adair's H/h find themselves running for their lives in the wilderness of an African forest: sex in a tree, LOL! And after a stunt like that, they'll live HEA, of course.
I haven't read that many books by this author, but I know I can't take her stories too seriously. Her writing is definitely OTT, but as long as her H/h don't grate on my nerves, I'm willing to enjoy the ride. That said, this wasn't a bad story. Sam and Beth were OK and besides the fact that they chose the worst moments to kiss and grope each other, they weren't TSTL. As it turned out, the stupid ones in this story were the terrorists who kidnapped Elizabeth. They did all the research to find out every single detail about the doctor they wanted to kidnap, like her husband's daily routine, their baby's Day Care Center address, her mother's home address, and so on, but didn't have a single picture of hers to ID the right doctor and avoid the mistake of snatching Beth in her place! Anyway, the story was fast paced and the action was almost non stop - hey, they had to stop now and then to lust after each other, LOL - so this was an overall OK read.
Atlanta Heat by Lora Leigh (3 stars)
Mason "Macey" March knows that Emerson "Em" Delaney is Trouble with a capital T, but he can't help panting after her like a dog. They've been lusting after each other for 2 years, but somehow never acted on their feelings seriously. When she's kidnapped and he's sent to rescue and secure her, he knows his time is up and there's no more running away from his feelings for her. It's time he claimed her. After all, what's left to do when they're confined in his safe house waiting for his team to catch the bad guy responsible for her kidnapping? But can he convince her to put aside her fears and make her see they belong together?
Macey was a bit of a surprise in this story. In the previous books of the Tempting SEALs series, he came across as the ultimate bad boy with a geeky demeanor, so seeing him as a family man at heart here was strange. Nice, but jarring. As for Em, I didn't like her at all. She was spoiled and brat-ish, not to mention that there was something wrong with her brain cells. When her kidnappers hit her to shut the nonsense that came out of her mouth, I almost cheered them. That happened in the beginning of the story, and she only got worse afterwards. If Macey's anaconda Drack ate her up somewhere down the road, I wouldn't have minded.
And speaking of Drack, there was a editing problem concerning the scary anaconda: LL started the story referring to it as a "he" and switched it to a "she" in the middle of the story. Gah, just call it "it" and let it go.
Overall, I'm giving this novella 3 stars despite Em and the editing errors because I liked Macey, the action was good for such a short story, and I got to see Nathan Malone up and running after the nightmare he suffered in the previous books.
Note: Even though this story is part of the Tempting SEALs series, it's so loosely connected to it that it can be read as a standalone without a problem.
Desert Heat by Cindy Gerard (5 stars)
Police detective Seth King and Assistand DA Elena Martinez have been butting heads in the courtroom for some time, seeing that they don't always agree on the best way to serve justice. As far as he's concerned, the DA's office makes too many plea bargains and lets too many scumbags back on the streets. She doesn't see it that way, as she'll go for a plea bargain any day of the week as long as she gets to put another low-life behind bars. When they both sign up for the annual law enforcement benefict event and end up being paired at the two day Survival Scavenger Hunt in the Grand Canyon, the underlying attraction between them surfaces, with sizzling results. But there's someone out there bent on seeking revenge against Elena, and now they're running for their lives instead of scavenging the Grand Canyon for hidden "treasures". Thankfully, Seth is as smart and tough as he can be, even with a small concussion, and Elena is no wimpy damsel in distress.
Wow, I loved this story! Engaging H/h, solid plot, fast paced action, nice HEA... What's not to love? Things happen very fast - it's a short story, after all - but I felt like I knew both Seth and Elena, and I really liked them. I especially liked their sense of humor, which never felt out of place even when they were facing their most distressful circumstances. The only "complaint" I have is, I thought Elena's behavior after their ordeal at the Grand Canyon was over was a bit out of character. This might have been a problem if I was reading a full-length novel, but I'm more lenient when I'm reading short stories so I let it go. And I really enjoyed the last chapter, so all was forgiven in the end. :)
Final verdict: 4 stars (I'm bumping my rating up because I really liked CG's story.) Get this book from the library and read the last story. As for the 1st 2 stories, you can either take it or leave it.
