He’s the orc I robbed. I’m the mate he’s been searching for.
Neither of us is thrilled about it.

Tessa: I have a bad habit of breaking into places I shouldn’t. Like the room of an orc warrior I spotted in the streets. I need information to find my missing friend—he has gold and secrets. So I took both.

Arlon is everything I like to avoid—honorable, persistent, dangerously kind. I certainly didn’t expect him to hunt me down…or to claim I’m his fated mate.

She says this is just a partnership. I say she’s mine.

Arlon: I’ve spent years searching for my mate, and the one time I let my guard down, she steals from me. She’s clever, chaotic, and absolutely mine.

Now I just have to convince her of that…while protecting her from the gang she pissed off and helping her find her friend. The closer we get to the truth, the closer we tread to enemy territory—and the Stonefrost Clan doesn’t take kindly to trespassers.

The Orc’s Thief is a steamy orc fantasy romance featuring reluctant fated mates, only-one-bed tension, and an adventure that might just lead straight to love. This is the first installment in a new series. Tessa and Arlon’s story will continue in the next book!

Disappointing.

It started out fine, but unfortunately shifted towards getting dragged out pretty much the instant the characters started developing romantically.

They're traveling to see what happened to her friend/save her- and never make much leeway because I'm assuming what the friend is up to is going to be sludged through in a different book.

I feel like the rest of Zoe Ashwood's books that I've read were more interconnected standalones- where the characters are the main focus. That's not what this is, this sort of ends on a cliffhanger- I say sort of because I was 'sort of' waiting for the book to be over. So I sort of don't really care. The books typically end with HFN/HEA vibes, and instead this one wants to drag it into multiple books.

I think it failed because it only gave hints at an overarching plot and not enough to actually cement interest. There weren't even strong secondary characters to get invested in.

Quantity over quality seems to be the growing trend. Tragic.

💚 Bookish Thoughts
Zoe Ashwood is the queen of orc romance. And an auto buy author for a reason! The Orc’s Thief is a solid start to a new series, but just be warned, there’s a cliffhanger and I’m already dying for book 2 😭

Our orc MMC Arlon? Absolute sweetheart. Patient, loyal, and so devoted for his little thief. He was just so happy to have finally found his mate. Even after she robbed him. Multiple times. And hit him on the head. Bless him 😭

Tessa took a bit longer to grow on me. She’s guarded, prickly, and pretty mean to him for a lot of the book. Her behavior makes sense once you understand her past, but it still got frustrating. Thankfully, she gets there in the end!

✨ Fave Quote
“You’ve never been in love?” I ask softly. He shakes his head. “No. I hadn’t met you yet.”

🗡️ What You Can Expect
• Morally Gray FMC
• Golden Retriever MMC
• He Falls First
• Reluctant Fated Mates
• Only One Bed 👀
• Knotting

📖 Final Score: 4.5

Zoe does it again but bigger and better. The plot had me HOOKED from the start and I immediately know I’d love this couple and the story as a whole.

I love how determined Arlon is to find his mate. He’s so gentle and patient and she is so feisty and independent. I’m obsessed I can’t say enough good things about these two.

You WILL be left with a cliffhanger and now I can’t think about anything else until the next book comes out.

Zoe Ashwood loyalist BUT

This ain't it.

In my head, Zoe is on the Mount Rushmore of Orc authors. I picked up this book READY to partake in whatever version of Orc wonderfulness she was ready to give BEcause she is Zoe Ashwood AND she ALWAYS comes thru with the 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I'm talking plot, awesome characters, spice. Zoe ALWAYS delivers BUT unfortunately for me, this book has no parts wonderful. Just endless quantities of world building, even more of Tessa's endless snarkiness, basically no access to any other characters to possibly buffer my hatred for Tessa and so little spice that it honestly could have simply been closed door or even non-existent. The spice even felt flat. I can't believe I'm even saying a Zoe Ashwood 🌶️ moment was boring, but it was.

As for Tessa...hated her. I have said it so many times and I'll say it again. I really don't understand why so many authors perpetuate the idea that FMC strength is directly proportional to them being total jerks. On introduction, ok. I mean a single woman trying to survive in them old world fantasy streets. She has to do what she has to do to survive, but when you get to chapter 29 and she's STILL being an a-hole because someone startled her after this man has continually saved your life AND even made her stoopid quest his quest BEcause your his mate and all you do is give some weak "oops my bad" after the fact...gurl bye!

I committed to finishing the book because I do love Zoe, but I honestly should have shelved this at 64%. I gained nothing from finishing it. And to add insult to injury, for it to end the way it did...yeah, if I could, I most definitely would soooo reclaim all my time.

This can officially be entered in the books as a Friday wasted in the most wasteful way. 😢🤬🤦🏾‍♀️

Disappoining. I'm so upset and disappointed!

First of all. This is many years later from the last book from the previous series, but how many???
Second. It would have been nice to open the book and read right there that there were names changed. Also would have been nice to know it was going to end in a cliffhanger but oh well (I do hate when books don't have a proper end).
Third. If it's going to be a full series instead of interconected standalone, we need more characters! Because right here I only have two options: one would be to think the entire series (of I don't even know how many books) are going to be all about Arlon and Tessa, or two, the next book is about other characters who we haven't met yet (some "Stonefrost bride" maybe?) and the focus is on them and we only get to know on the side about what happen with Arlon and Tessa.

I was eager to read about Arlon, so eager I ignored the awful feeling of having him leave his clan and then having something to do with the other clan. I hated the feeling the name of the next series suggested, maybe Arlon was going to rejoin them?? But anyway, I wanted to follow him. So I'm not taking well all the changes. I think it would have been nicer to have a book for him after Mara's and then introduce new characters to conect us to this new series, idk. But anyway, this is what we get, so now I only wish the next book is good. Sadly, I'm not feeling excited to read it, I don't think there was enough in this book for me to wait for, I didn´t like Tessa that much, I don't think there's that much of a mistery with the caravans and Lindie or the clan, there was no real purpuse for Arlon and Tessa to keep traveling... That cliffhanger felt so anticlimatic, I don't know anymore.

This was a fun series opener that brings the humour and sweetness to the forefront. Tessa is an independent woman living in tough times. Arlon, an orc, is looking for his mate and lets just say that these two meet under unusual circumstances ;P As time passes, Arlon takes on her quest to support her and employs great patience in breaking down her walls. These two have stubbornness well mapped out but their connection was strong. This is the first part of their story, so expect a gentle cliffy ending. I enjoyed this adventure romance with mystery, trust issues and spice to keep things engaging ;D

First of all, Zoe will always be an automatic buy for me. I stumbled across her books a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. Her writing style is smooth and effortless. The story flows so easily. The world in simple and lovely. The characters each have their own strengths and obstacles to conquer. This is the first one that has left us on a cliffhanger, but I kind of love that. And I always did wonder why the Stonefrost Clan was loosely introduced in the Bellhaven Clan books, but now it's starting to make sense. I'm ready for the next one now!!!

ARC REVIEW - honest opinions in exchange for a free read. Also first book I've read from Zoe.

Well damn. I really liked this story. great pacing and as I was getting closer and closer to the end I thought: golly gee, however will she wrap this up in a good flow way? Well call me a dumb dumb I didn't realize this was a series LOL 🗻🗻 should be illegal.

Tessa is a bad ass. She's all running around throwing parkour and swiper no swiping, living her "best life". Until Arlon is spotted and shimmies his way into her life (although not through a window since y'know, he big orc).

I really enjoyed their dynamic, he's straight forward, communicates and is considerate as hell. Meanwhile, Tessa is a a bit of a hot head but able to reflect and grow. The banter is top notch.

The ✉️🥹 how sweet, I can't wait to see more of this.

The spice is spicing but not at any disadvantage to the plot. There's travelling aplenty but in classic new age orc fashion, there's plenty of hygiene (thank yooooou).

The only thing I would've preferred, and it's small (pun intended) is if the you know what wasn't called a pearl🦪😂 I'm sorry lol.

Can't wait for the next one!

“My life lacked all direction,” he adds quietly. “The moment I met you, I found my true north again.”

Arlon's been looking for his mate from one town to another, and when he was robbed one night, by his fated mate, Tessa. She's been searching for her friend and they both set out on this journey towards the Stonefrost Clan.

I honestly was a bit delulu because I lowkey forgot who Arlon was, but hey, I love them orcs so I just pushed through.

It took me for about 40% before I was hooked in. It was a slow start especially with the new town, the cat and mouse chase but once I got pass that, I flew through the book.

I love me some fiery and bada$$ FMC and Tessa was every bit of that. Being a thief and on the run, Tessa's a strong independent woman. Arlon, was the complete opposite of Tessa in terms of their principles and moral standing but he saw her in another light and that made it more adorable.

The book ended in a cliff hanger so I am so looking forward to reading more of this series. So intrigued with the different clans too.

Also, did we change Black Bear Clan to Bellhaven or am I missing something?

I liked the story and was happy to get back into the world of the orc clans, but the intrigue wasn't as intriguing as I hoped ;)
Tessa was a thief with a heart. She donated some of her hits to an orphanage and risked her life to find out what happened to her friend when she vanished from the city. In her investigation of the gang that her friend belonged to she noticed an orc that was spying on the same gang. Thinking that he had to some information about the case she robbed his room at the inn. It gave her a lot more than the information she wanted, because the orc caught up to her only a day later. Tessa was burned by a handsome man before, so when the orc she robbed followed her and saved her life she was very suspicious. Then he explained to her that they were fated mates, and she couldn't wrap her head around it ;) she didn't want a mate, she was an independent woman that for a long time now didn't need a man, but the orc was getting to her and her walls began crumbling in the face of his care and devotion.
Arlon was a great guy. He was strong, self-assured and and alpha male, but he was also caring, sweet and gentle. He was looking for his mate for years, but he knew that Tessa wouldn't be able to feel the connection between them like he could, so he did his best to not overwhelm her or pressure her into anything. He gave her time to get over her issues, got to know her better and cared for her to the best of his ability.
The whole intrigue about Lindie quickly got me thinking that the bestie wasn't really missing, so it lost a lot of um...intrigue for me. The development of the relationship between our main characters, the world around them and the danger of the gang or Stonefrost orcs getting to them were enough though to keep my attention ;)
I can't wait for the rest of their story! But it is a bit of mystery for me why Tessa would be considered a Stonefrost clan bride, when Arlon was a Bellhaven orc through and through. I guess he will change clan affiliation in the next one, but with how loyal he was to his old clan it would be a little weird. Oh well, I'll wait and see ;)

I always love going deeph into Zoe’s Orc world she was the one getting me addicted to these kind of stories and this one was no diffrent.

This was fast passed romance with adventure and mystery.

What happens when your fated mate turns out to be the girl not the men you thought that robbed you. Tessa is used to live on her own and survive and she is human but that dosent slow her down… she finds herself on the adventure to search for her friend with the I
Orc she robbed and so hard tried to escape one moment and as much as she tried to fight the attraction she dosent have strength to go fighting it.

If you read her other orc series you will recognize the name of the enemy territory that’s belongs to king gorvors brother they are getting closer and closer to the boarder of their land. If they get caught can he save them both?

You get to see their stubbornness and connection as it grows on the road. And it’s sweet adorable and spicy.

Let me warn you this one will end on a cliffhanger I still crave next book to see that will happens

A good start to the series

Enjoyed this - interesting characters, a not unique story, but definitely an interesting one. I liked Tessa’s spicy attitude and how it was complemented by Arlon’s calmer one.

Looking forward to the next instalment and to see how the Stonefrost clan and Lindie factor into the story going forward.

FMC is a girl who turned to thievery after her societal reputation got trashed. MMC is an upstanding orc who was helping local law enforcement with cases. When the FMC’s best friend who works for a gang disappears, this causes their paths to cross.

Fated mates. Slow burn. It was okay? Longer than the author’s other orc books and I did find myself skimming at points. A lot of time was spent on the logistics and action of thieving around and the build up to them actually properly meeting. Once they actually teamed up, it picked up and I became more invested.

The book ends with the orc getting captured by not-friendly orcs and the FMC trying to figure out how to save him. Also, she finds out her missing friend may not be missing at all and is possibly involved in some human trafficking operation.

I am huge fan of Zoe Ashwood and her previous orc romance series, The Bellhaven Clan. I am extremely grateful to have received an ARC of this book from her to review.

This book is book one in The Stonefrost Clan Brides series, which is a spinoff of her previous Bellhaven series. I’ve been long anticipating this book because the MMC is an orc character from the previous series that I’ve been desperately wanting to see get his own story.

The orc MMC, Arlon, is a very honorable, law abiding man and the FMC, Tessa, is a skilled thief who has had to learn to survive on her own in the world. So right away we have two people are very at odds with the way they live their lives. They have a bit of a cat and mouse back and forth at the beginning. She steals from him, he tries to follow her and catch her, but she’s extremely skilled and evades him initially.

I thought the slow burn was nicely paced, Arlon feels the mate bond right away upon meeting but Tessa is very reluctant, never having been able to trust and rely on anyone in her life. You get some really delicious tropes like forced proximity and only one bed at the inn while they are on their fantasy road trip adventure together. Tessa is searching for a missing friend and Arlon tags along (much to Tessa’s dismay at first) because he cannot bear to be parted from his mate and he wants to protect her.

The evolution of their relationship is beautiful to read, Arlon displays a huge amount of patience because he knows he can’t rush her and Tessa learns over time to trust him and her feelings for him soften and grow.

The book ends on a cliffhanger and I absolutely cannot wait for their second book to find out how their story wraps up!

Book one in the new series, The Stonefrost Clan Brides!
Set after the Bellhaven Clan series with King Gorvor and his clan, Arlon has ventured off on his own to search for his mate.
Although he's happy most of his friends and family have found their own mates and HEA's; he also can't help but feel a bit jealous.
Since it's clear no-one in his own clan is meant for him, Arlon decides to take matters into his own hands and search nearby villages and towns for his mate. Let's just say she's not exactly what he was expecting...

Arlon is such a protective, caring sweetheart. All he's ever wanted is a mate of his own to dote and care after.
Tessa has always only ever relied on herself to survive and doesn't know how to accept not only help, but the fact he doesn't want anything in return. Everything in life costs something, nothing is for free.

I'm so happy Arlon got his story! Even though I have to wait now for his HEA ending, he's at least finally found his mate. The setup for the series and final chapter was such a tease, I'm dying for the next one already!

Definitely recommended to read after the previous series, the Bellhaven Clan for the best experience. Can be read as a standalone, but with mentions of previous characters and easter eggs, go ahead and read them first. (Plus it's an amazing series!)

The Orc’s Thief is a fun, fast-paced blend of orc fantasy, reluctant fated mates, and enemies-to-lovers goodness. From the moment Tessa slips into Arlon’s room to steal both his gold and his secrets, the dynamic between them crackles with tension and chemistry. She’s impulsive, stubborn, and just chaotic enough to be endearing, while Arlon is the perfect blend of gruff warrior and unexpectedly sweet protector. Their banter is sharp, the only-one-bed moment is swoony, and the way Arlon tries to respect Tessa’s independence even while claiming she’s his mate adds emotional depth to the heat.

The worldbuilding is light but effective, giving enough of the Stonefrost Clan’s customs and danger to feel immersive without bogging down the romance. The search for Tessa’s missing friend gives the story some urgency, but the real heart lies in the emotional push-and-pull between two people who shouldn’t work but absolutely do. Tessa’s resistance to fate feels grounded and earned, and Arlon’s patience is surprisingly tender.

This first installment sets up the series with plenty of intrigue, a bit of danger, and a promise of more romance to come. If you like protective orcs, scrappy heroines, and a good “you stole from me but I love you anyway” trope, The Orc’s Thief delivers in spades.

ARC review:
I have been waiting for Arlon's story since we first met his character in the Bellhaven cCan series, and the fact that his story is spread out into two longer books is nothing short of fantastic!
When I started reading this story, I must admit I got a bit confused at first, as some changes had been made to the story (mostly the fact that the clan name had changed to Bellhaven). I understand why the changes were made, I was simply unaware that things other than Arlon's name would be changed

Looking at what I think about the story, I knew I was going to like it from the get-go. I liked that we got dual POV, I LOVED that Arlon gave us glimpses into the world Arlon comes from and the people in Bellhaven. Tessa is amazing, feisty, snappy and a little bit violent, but she also has a softer side and scars on her heart from her past. Arlon is patient and willing to wait for Tessa to come around and accept the crazy (to humans) concept of mate-hood.
The 'quest' they set out to complete is solely for Tessa, but Arlon, of course, isn't willing to leave her to her own devices, especially as they travel closer and closer to the Stonefrost Clan's border.

I am so very ready for the next book in this series, and for Tessa and Arlon's story to continue!!

The Orc’s Thief captivates it’s reader with the story of an Orc warrior and the thief who steals his heart in this engaging fantasy romance.
Tessa has been hunting for her missing friend Lindie all through the city of Ultrup without success. When she spots an Orc warrior casing out the local headquarters of the Raven gang her curiosity is peeked and she begins watching him, watch them.
Being a thief and a very good one when the opportunity presents itself to enter the Orc’s room she avails herself of his paperwork and some coin. But nothing in his possession points to Lindie’s whereabouts or indicates why he is in Ultrup.
Arlon was in the city, one of many he’d visited, looking for his mate until the mayor had talked him into staying longer to help out with their crime problem.
Now just as he is ready to move on and continue his mate search he is robbed!
Looks like Tessa’s mistake will soon become Arlin’s gain in this entertaining story of danger, mystery, passion, action, intrigue, and adventure.
Nicely written with good world building, and well crafted characters this was an enjoyable read that will continue their story in the next book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

First off, I typically love Zoe’s books, so I was excited to get an Arc of the orc book to get to see how things play out. Sadly, I was more thrown off at the name changes than I was drawn into the story. I actually stopped reading to open all my other Zoe Ashwood books to see if I was mistaking which book this was. I found her reasoning on her site, but it is still a huge distraction to not only change main characters names, but both clan names as well. It has severely cut back the interconnection after 8 books. I’m sorry if someone was having sensitivity issues that lead to this change. Luckily, the change won’t bother new readers as much as it does for those us who read series for their interconnections and continuity of details.

Going back to the book, it was sweet, but slower than what we are used to with Zoe’s books with only one couple. I expect the books to be drawn out when there are more main romantic characters to be introduced. But I am pretty certain this is only Tessa and Arlon’s story.

Lots of world building and inner dialogue that drops us on a cliffhanger. Know ahead of time it’s not an interconnected standalone!!

Overall, decent story starting out, but I will need to read the second book to get a full feel of this couple.

Do you like immersive world building and descriptive imagery that never feels “wordy” or redundant? Do you yearn for charming, authentic characters, with thoughts and emotions that are realistic and easy to connect with? What about storylines that have just enough tension and excitement to keep you turning the page, but are still quite cozy? Yes? Then your have your author!! Zoe Ashwood is the answer to all those questions!
In The Orc’s Thief she artfully tells the story of Tessa and Arlon, Tessa is a professional thief, and very skilled, although her life has made her skittish and untrusting. Arlon is a Bellhaven orc warrior working with the authorities in the human town. Tessa has her sights set on Arlon’s lockbox, and soon Arlon will have his sights set on Tessa.
However, there is a larger mystery at work. The local crime boss may have dealings with the rival orc clan, Stonefrost. Tessa and Arlon each have reasons to get to the bottom of what is going on, and the adventure begins!
This is a cliffhanger!
Arlon might be one of the sweetest orcs Zoe has written. He has been with us since Book One of the Bellhaven series. He is patient, and loves his mate, but never wants to make Tessa who she isn’t. Arlon meets Tessa where she is, and she finally sees that she can trust!

Couldn't put it down!

This was my first Zoe Ashwood book and I was instantly hooked!

Arlon has been looking for his mate for a long time and he didn't expect her to be a cat burglar and even less one who would steal from him.
Tessa has had to rely only on herself ever since her past relationship got her disowned by her family. So when the orc she just stole from announces that she's his mate, she had a hard time accepting that he doesn't have an ulterior motive and wants to help her just because.

The relationship between the two was funny and sweet. From their unexpected meeting where she bashed his head in and tied him up, to Arlon slowly jacking away at Tessa's walls. Arlon was very patient and accepting of Tessa's trust issues even though she felt like she didn't deserve such a good mate. He took the time to show her that he was all in and there was nothing that could make him want her any less.

Though I once again fell victim to not reading the blurb and got blindsided by the cliffhanger, I had an amazing time reading this and I'm very anxious to read the next one!

Finally! Arlon deserves all the love, and I'm so happy that he finally has found his mate! I've been in love with him since meeting him in the Bellhaven series. Arlon and Tessa felt like the perfect match. And of course, just like all the other orcs written by Zoe, he was patient and willing to wait and woo Tessa because he knew she didn't feel the bond like orcs do. These orc men do not disappoint!

Tessa is so cool. I loved reading about her. She's such a badass. And even though it was hard for her to admit to needing help she slowly realized that she probably couldn't complete her mission without Arlon. But who wouldn't want to be protected and snuggled by their orc mate??

This book was full of romance, adventure, mystery, spicy travelling moments...so much to enjoy. The cliffhanger had me stressing, but I trust Zoe to give us that HEA. And I can't wait to see more from the Stonefrost Clan and more of the world beyond the Hill and Ultrup.

This is my first step into Zoe's Orc world and I loved it. Orc's are just one of my comfort monsters. I said what I said.

The story sucks you right in, painting a detailed image of the world full of mystery and danger. The duel POV worked in building the world and the different view of the factions and characters who i'm sure will pay a bigger role in future installments.

Also, the slower burn of the romance works perfectly, as it doesn't overpower the story. Arlon is just a big sweetie. Happy to finally have found his mate so will be as patient as he needs to be in whatever capacity she wants, but Tessa, being human, takes a little more convincing. Yes he has pretty muscles and smells good but she's a thief who has been through some things and has her own life to live!

This book left us on a cliffhanger, so I can't wait for the next installment to see what happens in enemy territory!

ARC Review:

I loved Zoe’s Black Bear Clan series and I was so excited to see that she was going to release a new series centred around the Stonefrost clan.

I was definitely right to be excited as this first book was so good. It follows rule abiding Arlon, son of Takmor and thief in the night, Tessa , travelling through the duchy to find Tessa’s friend.

It had the banter and sweet that you would expect from a Zoe Ashwood book as well as it being atmospheric while our couple travel to the borderlands of Stonefrost clan territory.

Before going into this, I didn’t expect it to be a part one so you can imagine my surprise when it ended on a cliffhanger as the previous series were interconnected standalones. However, I’m so excited to see where this goes!

Thank you Zoe Ashwood for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved every minute of this book! The pacing was fantastic, and the romance and spice were so good.

Tessa is amazing, and has so much depth and a boatload of abandonment issues. It was lovely to watch her work through those, while slowly let Arlon in. She is my favorite of the two.

Arlon is a big cinnamon roll. All he wants out of life is to find, love, and cherish his mate. He has an ooey gooey sweet center, with tons of sugary icing. He loves his family dearly too. He isn't afraid to get fierce with everyone else if needed though!

Overall this was a great read, and I had no issues reading this without having read any of the other Orc series.

I just adore Zoey Ashwood’s Orc stories and was so happy to hear that she was creating a new series. These books are comfort reads for me with just the right amount of plot and spice.
The two main characters in the story (Tessa and Arlon) are so enjoyable and I loved how they met initially..Arlon is utter perfection and just may be my new favorite Orc! Tessa I couldn’t help but fall in love with..she is so alone in the world and even dealing with being betrayed by the people that should’ve loved her unconditionally, still has such a big heart.
This book does end on a cliffhanger, but I am so excited to continue on with this new series.

Thank you Zoe for letting me be a part of your ARC team!

Tropes:
▪ Fated Mates
▪ One Bed
▪ Knotting
▪ Slow Burn
▪ Orc MMC x Human FMC

I'm fairly new to Zoe Ashwood's books but Ive really enjoyed the ones I have read so far! Orc Fantasy is a new one for me but I don't think it'll be the last! This was such a slow burn but I think it was the perfect pace!

Tessa is a thief, unfortunately for her she steals from the wrong Orc.. or maybe it's the right Orc! Arlon is ready to find his mate, he wants what his friends have, imagine his surprise when she turns up, stealing from him.

I really enjoyed the Tessa and Arlon's story, I feel like it was perfect for them, with lots of angst and plenty of plot, and what an ending!! Please be aware this ends on a cliffhanger, I can't wait for the rest of their story!
