Katerina Ivanova is the most powerful Dimi in Iriska. She uses her command over the four elements alongside Niko, her blood-bonded Shadow, to guard the portals to the Underworld and protect their realm from demonic invasion. When the two are recruited to compete to join Iriska’s most elite force, no one suspects their secret: the bond they share goes beyond magic and enters taboo territory. Love between a Dimi and her Shadow isn’t just a bad idea, it’s been prophesied to set an ancient Darkness loose upon the world.
But some forces are too powerful to resist, and despite their best intentions, one night Niko and Katerina surrender to the undeniable pull between them…with devastating results. As they struggle to save Iriska from the forces they’ve unleashed, the last person they expect will risk anything to tear them apart—even make a deal with the Devil.
Walk the fine line between dire consequences and deadly desire in this Slavic-inspired romantasy perfect for fans of L.J. Andrews, Carissa Broadbent, and Sarah J. Maas.

This book is just amazing, and I'm not surprised because it's from the amazing Emily Colin. This is a beautiful Hades and Persephone retelling as I've never seen it before. I very much enjoyed her Seven Sins series, and this is just as action packed (if not more so.) I can't wait to see where this new series takes me.
Katerina is a Dimi with unusual strength. Instead of just having magic control over one element, she has control over all four fire, wind, water, and air. She is bonded to her Shadow Niko, but romantic relationships between Dimis and their Shadows is strictly forbidden. Shadows are meant to mate with a chosen Vila to continue the line of Shadows, who can shift into animals to better protect their Dimis.
However, Katerina has been in love with Niko for years, and has hidden her feelings from everyone, including Niko.
Dimis and Shadows have the very important job of protecting Iriska from Grigori demons, who will stop and nothing to devour human souls. Iriska exists between the world where the Grigori exist and the human world. Without Dimis and their Shadows, Grigoris would proceed into the world of humans and devour human souls at their leisure.
The romantic tension and action in this book are just delicious! I devoured this book, and can't wait for the next one!
Thank you to Emily Colin @emilycolinbooks for adding me to the ARC team for Fate and Fury.
Just finished Fate & Fury and honestly, I had a pretty good time with it! I’d give it 3.75 stars. The storyline was super unique, and the magic systems felt fresh and different—definitely a strong point. The villain characters? Top-notch. They’re so multi-dimensional that you’re left wondering about their motives, which I love. Can’t wait to see where this all goes in book two.
I thought the pacing was really well done! Not too slow and not too fast! The perfect amount to keep me engaged.
That said, the characters sometimes came off a bit juvenile, which pulled me out of the story here and there. And while the book is marketed as adult romantasy, the spice was really minimal. Personally, I’d have liked to see more open-door scenes to match that “adult” label, but if you’re someone who doesn’t mind or prefers less of that, you’ll be fine!
Oh, and Niko! Why no POV for him? We get perspectives for the other main characters, so his absence felt like a missed opportunity. But overall, it kept my attention, and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next one. If you like unique magic systems and layered villains, it’s worth checking out
**thank you to NetGalley & Emily Colin for the gifted ARC. All opinions are my own and this review is completely voluntary.
Katerina Ivanova is the most powerful Dimi in Iriska; she can control not only one element, but all four. Together with Niko Alekhin, her blood-bonded Shadow, she protects their village from demons. A prophecy forbids a Dimi and a Shadow to fall in love, but eventually Katerina and Niko can no longer resist their feelings. Catastrophy awaits...
A romantasy inspired by Slavic mythology, totally up there with more well-known romantasy authors! Forbidden love, powerful FMC with an attitude, alpha MMC who would die for her, shapeshifters, snarky demons, forced proximity and a touch of gender-flipped Hades and Persephone. Not to mention the never-ending tension, holding your breath, wondering what the h-ll is going to happen next?!
Unlike many others I want to stay as long as possible in a book I love (meaning I'll read slowly). I want to hang out with the characters, continue exploring the world - and catch my breath. That's why I've been spending almost a month in Iriska, together with Katya, Niko, Elena, Gadreel, Sammael and the others. Not optimal when you actually have a deadline, but how could I know in advance?! I already miss the characters and the waiting will be long before I get to know how it ends!
* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *
Romance Fantasy - forbidden love story. With witches (Dimi), shapeshifters (shadows), demons etc.
The story is about Dimi Katarina and her shadow Niko. Together they are bonded and fight to protect their village/kingdom from demons. Best friends since childhood, Katarina has fallen in love with Niko - but this is strictly forbidden. A prophecy is in place that would bring about the end of their world if they were to cross the line and be together. Also, Niko is about to be promised to another woman (Vila - Elena) in their village - following their traditions to keep the shadow line going. But what happens when they both succumb to their passion and love? How can they save a world they have now set in darkness?
Ok, so why 2 stars - the premise I thought was promising. I like the protective MMC angle. Katarina is a strong FMC, with good sass and banter. Cons - I felt like this book could have been 100-200 pages shorter. The plot was getting too drawn out and repetitive for me, and I was losing interest and starting to skim. Also I take issue when books start throwing out far too many complicated names and secondary characters. It starts to lack focus for me. So going into the saints and the hierarchy in the underworld, and the royals and then the elders in the village. It just alienated me from the story I found. Just not my cup of tea.
While reading the ARC copy, I couldn’t put it down. The first part is a little slow while building, but quickly takes off like a rollercoaster. I enjoyed the forbidden romance of Niko and Katerina while experiencing a full spectrum of emotions! The story does end on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see where the characters and their relationships grow from here! Enjoyed the ride - thank you Emily!
Fate and Fury sounded SOOOO good, and I was SO READY to read this, but it fell flat for me. I don't know why, but I thought Katerina being all powerful, having control over four different elements (compared to other Dimi who normally have control over just one) would play a bigger role in this book, but it was just skimmed over. This really was more focused on relationships, with the issues plaguing this world occurring like background noise around them. And there were kind of a lot of characters/relationships to keep track of? Or at least it felt like it. The forbidden love between Niko and Katerina was portrayed really well, and I was rooting for them to be together, while simultaneously feeling REALLY BAD for Elena (even if she did questionable things in the end). While it served a purpose to the story, I don't understand Sammael's attraction to Elena. I also don't understand how she was able to become SO POWERFUL after days of training with Sammael, seemingly more powerful than Katerina, despite Katerina being "the most powerful Dimi in Iriska". Overall, the concept was good, but it was poorly executed. I think I would have enjoyed this more if less had been happening (it felt like a lot of events were stuffed into a pretty short book) and there were more character development/relationships between characters was expounded upon. Thanks Netgalley for the e-ARC!
Thank you to Netgally for the ARC, I don’t know if it’s just me but I really struggled with this book even though I had really high hopes for it.
Katerina Ivanova is a witch of the four elements, she is a powerful Dimi and protector of her home Iriska along with her shadow Niko who is Alpha of the black dogs.
It is forbidden for a Dimi fall in love with their shadow however this hasn’t stopped Katerina who has kept this secret for many years.
As they face the challenges of protecting their home from Grigori demons can they figure out if this bond between them is more than a shadow oath
I found that the descriptions of things were way too long with so many adjectives that it actually made it harder to read. I felt the story was very jumpy and didn’t flow between transitions to different plot points.
Fate and Fury is an enthralling adult romantasy and the first book in the The Bone Moon duology. This riveting Slavic-inspired romantasy is filled with atmospheric combats, trials, forbidden romance that will make you swoon. Katerina Ivanova is not a meek protagonist she is the epitome of fierce and strong. With a richly detailed world- building and magic system, buckle up for a scorching forbidden romance with a deadly prophecy and high stakes threats.
The story follows Katerina Ivanova, the strongest Dimi who hones the power to keep command over all four elements. A witch who is also the protector of Iriska from the Grigori demons. Her blood-bonded Shadow, Niko, is her constant companion.
A shadow's sole duty is to protect his Dimi. And Niko takes the responsibility quite seriously. Fighting side by side, never faltering. However when they are recruited for the Iriska's elite warriors things begin to shift. It is predicted that love between Dimi and Shadow could unleash chaos and darkness that could ultimately decimate everything.
One particular event leads to the unpredictable unmanacle of the darkness. With perils and stakes running high, the consequences demand a price - a deal with the devil.
This book has all the elements of an enthralling romantasy that will be deemed as a page-tuner by every reader. Slavic-inspired story that invites readers on a whirlwind journey of epic anticipation and excitement, curiosity and compelling forbidden romance, the book has it all. The themes of passionate love, deadly perils, unexpected trials, challenging twists and turns that you won't see coming are well explored. The protagonists are absolutely amazing and I couldn't help myself from falling for the dashing, charming Niko whose dialogues made me swoon. The world building is absolutely unique and the way the author minutely curates the details is commendable. The trials were my favourite sections amongst many. This was one of the fast-paced and gripping romantasy that I read this year, it completely immersed me in its fantastic storyline. Right from the start, the story captivated me with the unique magic system and fascinating promise of an epic adventure. I'm really excited to read the next book.
Fate and Fury is one romantasy book you can’t miss out on.
Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley, and Emily Colin for this ARC and allowing me the opportunity to review this book.
"Break me, then" she said, a challenge. "Break me like your promises."
⭐3.5/5 rounded up for GR 🌶️0/5 - fade to black
An original and creative Slavic-inspired universe with extensive world building, an elemental magic system, and a unique culture of bonded Dimi/Shadow pairs. A tale of duty, forbidden love, loss, and the risks of making deals with devils.
There were a lot of things I really enjoyed about this! The creativity alone makes this one worth a read. I found the slavic-inspired universe was very unique and I appreciated the rich world building. I did find it a little challenging to keep track of the terms and lore; however I've been told that the latest version does contain a glossary which is a great addition.
There was a lot going on in this story, especially in the second half! The dramatic turn of events in the second half was completely unexpected and had me gripped; however, it felt a little disjointed with the first half of the book. I really enjoyed the premise of the Bone Trials from the outset and I was fully invested in the outcome of the trials; however, with everything that unfolds in the second half, it's unclear to me what role it plays in the rest of the story. Elena's character arc was also very interesting and unexpected (if maybe a bit abrupt)
I enjoyed the multi POV storytelling; however, in between moments of action we spend a lot of time with the current narrator, sifting through their thoughts, opinions, and speculation about the current situation, which I felt lead to slightly stuttered pacing. I found the writing style lovely and almost lyrical; however I also felt that there was a level of verbosity/detail and repetition that didn't always add to the story (and even at times distracted me from the moment). The vivid descriptions paid off during the key moments though, and the scenes were always easy to visualize!
A very interesting conclusion that leaves a lot of intrigue as to what will happen in book 2!
For fans of The Wheel of Time and Shadow and Bone, Fate and Fury is a captivating addition to your TBR list!

“If a dimi and shadow lay together, damon-infested darkness would fall upon iriska and overtake the realm”
This enchanting romantasy combines elements of magic, forbidden love, loss, betrayal, and a thrilling prophecy. The novel is set in a richly crafted world where light battles against darkness, featuring dimi witches and their shadow protectors. Add demons, perilous trials designed to test the strength of the dimi-shadow bond, and an intricate magical system, and you have the ingredients for an engrossing read.
The story begins in the middle of events, but the author thoughtfully provides a warning upfront. Through well-placed flashbacks, readers gradually piece together the past, gaining a solid understanding of how the characters arrived at the present. While the world-building is slow-paced and highly detailed, the depth adds to the immersive quality of the setting.
The characters are charming, though at times their development feels a bit shallow. I found myself longing for more significant personal growth as the story unfolded.
The romance between Nico and Katherina is one of the highlights of the book. Childhood best friends bound by a prophecy that forbids their love, they’ve hidden their feelings from one another for years—until one night when they decide to give in, just once. But fate has other plans for them, and the consequences of that night will test their bond in unimaginable ways.
While the story has many strengths, I personally found it challenging to fully immerse myself in the narrative. It wasn’t due to any flaw in the story itself, which is original and engaging. Perhaps it was the pacing or my own dyslexic tendencies, but I struggled to connect deeply with the flow of the book.
Overall, Fate and Fury is a beautifully imagined tale with a unique premise and a romantic core. If you love slow-burn world-building and emotionally charged forbidden love stories, this one is worth exploring.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC!
So first I want to think the author because I got an ARC copy of this book but let’s talk about this emotional roller coaster. That’s how I felt of reading this book. There were so many highs and there were so many lows and it was just all over the place and I honestly just couldn’t believe some of the stuff that was happening but let’s talk about Katerina and Niko’s tension. The tension was insane!’ I’m here for it! I love when we have tension buildup and when we finally see things happen afterwards yes yes yes and also the fact that they understand each other so well, I mean, like I know they are Dimi and shadow and that’s like a relationship in itself but there’s a deeper understanding between the two of them that is beautiful. Also Elena…I can’t even say too much on that, but just I just knew I wouldn’t like her from the beginning. I’ll say that and then all these like demons are just being puppeteers and that is so insane to me like they’re so crazy! They have all these other plans and honestly, I just knew we were gonna get left on a cliffhanger with this book, but like I didn’t imagine how much I would want book two after reading the cliffhanger. Like that cliffhanger was insane! I need book two ASAP because I need a lot of questions answered. There’s also something that happens that I don’t want to say because it’s gonna be a spoiler but we need to figure out a way around it in book two please and thank you!
Fate and Fury introduces a creative and inspired world full of intriguing magic and a unique bond between Dimi and Shadows. The first half, especially the Bone Trials, was captivating and had me hooked. The story took an unexpected turn when one of the main characters died—a twist I initially appreciated for its boldness. However, the subsequent focus on saving his soul sometimes felt overly prolonged and lacked the depth I was hoping for.
The forbidden love and emotional drama were compelling, but the dynamic of characters fighting over a man became a bit frustrating. Additionally, the deals with demons and their manipulation was fun, but also a bit repetitive.
It’s a fun read for fans of character-driven fantasy, but I felt that something was missing. The book ends with the door to the sequel wide open, inviting you to step right through 😊.

I absolutely loved this book! Don't even think it's possible to hate an Emily Colin book at this point because all of them are fantastic! This book will suck you in, make you forget you're reading, and you'll never want to put it down. I experienced a whole range of emotions in this book from being completely entertained by the sarcastic conversations to being absolutely destroyed by some of the events because Emily gives so much dimension to her characters that you are 100% invested in what will happen to each one no matter if they're one you love or one you wish you could take out yourself! As always, Emily doesn't do mundane world building for 100 pages and I appreciate that. She builds this beautiful fantasy world while revealing the forbidden love between Niko and Katerina as well as the relationships between each group of people as you go and it makes you feel completely immersed in Kalach instead of just having a million details thrown at you in the beginning and jumping into the plot. This is an incredible start to this series!! I can't wait for book 2 to come out and to own all of them!
Thank you to Emily Colin and Booksirens for the ARC!!
First, I’d like to thank the author and NetGalley for approving this ARC for me. I was so excited to get the chance to read it. It was really fun to go into a book without having heard anything about it (vs seeing a hundred tiktoks about it beforehand). It was refreshing, to say the least!
Overall, this book read as a romance novel set in a fantasy setting. I was so invested in the relationship between the FMC and MMC. They were completely swoon worthy and I could have read a much longer book if it included more of their relationship. I loved how the author wrote their story. There are so many ends not tied up that make me excited to see where things will go in book two.
The only critique I had (and not really a critique) was that the book sort of drops you right in the middle of a seemingly developed story right off the bat. I was a bit thrown off by that and had to re-read the beginning a few times to make sure I was understanding it. The first 50 pages almost felt like a different book. A lot of characters are introduced and then not spoken of for the rest of the book. I imagine they may come back around in book two. To play devil’s advocate with myself (😆), it was interesting to have a book start in such a different way than a lot of the romantasy books I’ve read lately.
All in all, this book deserves high praise and I hope it makes its way around the masses! I know it will be well-loved! I’m looking forward to reading book two.
I received this ARC and loved this book. The first 50% was a bit slower, kind of world building, laying the groundwork, but the last 50% was so intense. The highs, the lows and the heartbreak. Definitely ends in a cliffhanger, but excited to read the next book to see what happens next for Katarina and Niko.
Prepare for a whirlwind of emotion! This book is nonstop and puts you through the ringer in the best way! I have loved every second of this book book, even when I "hated" it. I'm so honored to have been chosen for the ARC team for this because it is truly one of the best books I've ever read. But keep the tissues on hand at all times, and a bestie to rant to.
Forbidden love with SO MUCH YEARNING. A witch who will burn everything down for her shadow zaddy. Sassy demons who trick humans because they’re ~bored~ And A CLIFFHANGER!??!!
Like any Fantasy series, it took a minute to dive into the world and grasp the understanding of the magic system after transitioning from another fantasy book.
However, this was such a great read. Once, I got into the rhythm, I really enjoyed getting to know Niko and Katerina. The relationship dynamic between dimi and shadow is so interesting. The elemental magic is just "chef's kiss". And I am here for all the forbidden love, demons, and jealousy! Give me more. Can't wait to see the progression of this series.
One thing I wished for is a glossary or pronunciation guide. With all the slavic-inspired names and places, I was winging it for sure. That is the only reason why I bumped it down to a 4.
Favorite quote:
"There's tired, Katya," he said, tugging the ribbon free, "and then there's dead. And I'd have to be the latter to give up a chance to be with you. That said, if I fall asleep in the middle, feel free to wake me up again."
Thank you to Emily Colin for the e-ARC of this book!
"I told you that with a single kiss, you shatter me like ice and you scorch me like a flame."
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5 🌶️ 0.5
As with most fantasy/romantasy books, Fate & Fury took me a bit to get into the story, but once I did, I had to keep reading. The world-building was great and I often felt I was in Iriska.
This book made me experience all the emotions. Had me anxious, had me grieving, had me angry. At points I FELT BETRAYED like I was part of the storyline. Half the time I was irritated with characters' choices, yelling at them in my mind for their actions, other times my heart was breaking for them. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster, but was so good because you get so attached to the characters.
🖤Forbidden love 🖤Fade-to-Black Spice 🖤Desire vs Duty 🖤Prophecies 🖤Elemental Magic
I am excited to see where Katerina and Niko's story leads, how the prophecy plays out, and how everything ties together.
"It has only been a formality, bonding then as Dimi and Shadow. They had always, always been meant for each other, prophecy be damned. The bond only recognized what the two of them had known all along: they were meant to be."
Fate & Fury is a spellbinding Slavic-inspired romantasy that weaves elemental magic, forbidden love, and ancient prophecies into a gripping tale. From the first page, Emily Colin immerses readers in the world of Iriska, where Katerina Ivanova—a powerful elemental Dimi—and her Shadow, Niko, guard the portals to the Underworld. Together, they form an unbreakable bond that transcends tradition, threatening to unravel a destiny long foretold.
The story masterfully explores the tension between duty and desire, with Katerina and Niko walking the delicate line between duty and succumbing to a connection that could bring them all to ruin. The stakes intensify as their forbidden love awakens an ancient Darkness, forcing them to confront not only external dangers but also the limits of their bond. When the story takes a shocking turn halfway through, it redefines everything you think you know, keeping you glued to the pages as the plot spirals into chaos and suspense.
One of the things I found most compelling in Fate & Fury was how Colin weaves parallels to Greek mythology—particularly the story of Orpheus and Eurydice—into the Slavic-inspired lore. It struck me how the romance between Katerina and Niko takes on an epic and haunting quality, especially as Niko metaphorically follows Katerina out of the depths of the Underworld. This moment felt both heart-wrenching and breathtaking to me, as their love and bond are tested by forces far beyond their control. It’s a beautiful, tragic thread that adds emotional depth to an already captivating story.
While the dynamic between Katerina and Niko is electric, Elena's character brings an intriguing layer of complexity. Her devoutness, innocence, and naivety clash with the jealous choices she makes, leading to devastating consequences that left me conflicted. It’s a testament to Colin’s skill in crafting morally layered characters.
The vivid world-building—complete with demons, witches, and gods—creates a lush backdrop for this tale of love, power, and sacrifice. At times, the magic system and the shifting motives of the characters can feel a bit confusing. While the complexity adds depth, it occasionally detracts from the flow, requiring extra attention to piece together the intricacies of the plot and character decisions. Despite this, the story’s twists, and emotional depth more than make up for it.
If you love elemental magic and powerful female protagonists navigating prophecy-laden destinies, Fate & Fury delivers on all fronts. Be prepared for an intense ride through love, betrayal, and the delicate balance between dire consequences and deadly desire.

"I think we both know, my Dimi, that I kneel for you."
Don't we all love the anguish of forbidden love 🤭 Katerina is a the most powerful witch born in decades who can control all 4 elements and is empowered by her blood bond to her Shadow Niko. Togheter they're trying to protect Iriska from Demons, while haunted by a prophecy that can tear them apart.
I love the Slavic inspiration and how it is woven into the story. The writing has a nice and easy-going flow and pace that makes it hard to put down the book again once you've started! This is my first Emily Colin book but I can see why she's a New York Times Bestseller Author! I like how there's a twist to who the enemy really is and it leaves you wondering how book 2 will pick up and what Emily has in store for us 👀 I had a lot of fun reading this and made many faces whilst reading this as many of the scenes are so detailed that I felt like I was watching the plot in my head. There's spice, but not smut, and a lot of romance drama that starts with a three persons love conflict and adds-on two more to the equation in both a love-love sense and a possesive- love mistaken sense.
Overall a beautifully written romantasy with lots of romance, magic elements and a visit to this Universe's Hell that has you gasping, cringing, heartaching and most of all cheering and hoping for the love between Katerina and Niko to withstand whatever their Gods have in store for them.
“You’re more important than any obligation and my love for you outweighs the price of my family’s honor. You are my blood, my blade, and my heart. My soul is bound to yours. I thought I could set all that aside—that I had to, or lose what mattered most. But what matters most is you.” 💜
I knew easily after reading the first few chapters that Fate and Fury would end up being a 5 star read for me! And boy was I right! What a roller coaster it was. Fate and Fury is beautifully written and absolutely heartbreaking at times. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am such a sucker for forbidden romance because of all the tension on whether the characters will give in and I definitely felt that between Katerina and Niko. Their love story is beautiful and I cried at least three times. I won’t say too much as to not spoil anything but if you want a book that makes you feel all the emotions, then add this one to your list.
“You could never lose me, Katya. Do you understand? I’m yours. Always.”
There are so many good quotes in this book that I simply cannot add them all to this review! Instead, I encourage you to pick this one up and see for yourself. I promise you will not regret it!
If you love fated mates; forbidden romance; forced proximity; and elemental magic, this one is definitely for you!
Thank you so much to @emilycolinbooks for an advanced copy. Fate and Fury releases on December 10th, so be sure to check it out! 💗
I am so happy I got to ARC read Fate and Fury, Book 1 in Emily Colin's Blood Moon duology. Fate and Fury is set to be released on December 10th, and if you love rich world-building, folklore-infused fantasy, characters with depth, gripping plot, you will love this book.
Seeing folklore elements in fantasy books brightens my day. Seeing Slavic folklore elements, being Slavic myself, is a unique experience. So, you can only imagine my excitement seeing the hype around Emily's book. But still, Fate and Fury is more than that. It is a story of a world fighting demons, living a strict set of rules, guided by prophecies. It is a story of forbidden love, true devotion, and the overall feeling of looming doom. It is also a story of expectations, obligations, and utter devastation.
Emily has masterfully woven the stories of fallen angels, Light vs. Dark, and prophecies guiding generations. She has also inserted some hilarious and perfectly sarcastic situations that got me laughing so hard (I am looking at you, Sammael and Gadreel). After the Dante Alighieri incident (you must read to understand), I don't know if I could end Gadreel or congratulate him on his wittiness.
Fate and Fury has it all—morally grey characters and situations, villains and those who seem villainous but can be pardoned (at least, in my opinion), plot twists and turns that will leave you gasping. What more could you ask for?
December 10th is fast approaching, so mark it on your calendar and immerse yourself in this enthralling story.
I was blown away by this book. Of course, you will soon learn you cant lose with an Emily Colin book! Shadows (blood bonded), demons, and trials (Bone Trials)..... Oh my. There's also elemental magic. For me, the shadow powers and trials were an automatic read. This book more than delivered. Dont forget the dimis that the shadows are bonded to. Despite the fact we know are forbidden to be together you still want to root for Katerina and Niko? What do you get when u have shadows and demons and vilas that make deals with these demons? Complete and utter mischief, chaos, evil, an enveloping darkness! Is the darkness a result of a forbidden love or is it so much more? This book is everything i didnt know I needed! I swear ive never had a book where I talked to myself, screamed at the characters, felt so much for the characters (mainly katerina.) Niko is my fav, and I love to dislike Elena. Even the villains you cant help but like (well maybe not Gadreel.) One thing's for sure December (10th) is about to be sweeter!

“You are my blood, my blade, and my heart. My soul is bound to yours”
This one was so unexpected and I truly enjoyed it. In this Slavic inspired adult fantasy I never felt lost in the story, even with the intense world building of elemental magic, curses, and the demon underworld. The author was able to capture the intensity of the characters Katerina and Niko’s attraction, make you feel the pure angst and their vulnerability. I would love to see Niko’s POV in book 2 🤗
If looking for a forbidden love, friends to lovers with “closed door - fade to black spice” this is a fantasy read you’ll love. Thank you Emily Colin for opportunity to read and review this ARC.

🖤 Forbidden Love 🔥 Fated Mates 🖤 Morally Gray characters galore 🥵 Demons with attitudes 🔥 Soul bonds 🖤 Witchy magic 🔥 Fade to black spice
Okay so this epic romantasy by Emily Colins had me in a chokehold from the start, the forbidden tension between Katarina and her shadow Niko was 🥵 the story itself is full of trials, magic and jam packed full of different perspectives of characters. It has the intricate world building, which was slow at first but once you're in and understand it all you're in! The way Emily has beautifully crafted this tale, pulling it all together to create this first part of the Bone Moon duology has left me impatiently waiting for the next book.
“Break me like your promises” “One for the fire, two for the storm, three for the black dog that guards against harm…”
I absolutely loved every moment of this emotional adventure of a story! I loved the tie ins with Slavic folklore and the whole angels and demons angle. I loved the nod to a certain Greek mythology that I won’t name because of spoilers. The relationship between Katerina and Niko was amazing and I loved their banter. I enjoyed how dedicated they were to each other and protecting their town. Really, every character was dynamic, even if I didn’t like Elaina from the start. She was interesting at least. Emily Colin managed to make me feel like I was actually there and I gasped out loud at several scenes and was sobbing my eyes out at a few more. The trials had me on the edge of my seat. I was stressed out for them during the trials and a few other times. Emily took me on an incredible journey and my only complaint is that I can’t dive right into the next book!
Fate and Fury by Emily Colin is the first book in The Boon Moon Duology. This is a forbidden love romantasy and the story of Katerina and Niko.
Katerina is the most powerful Dimi witch in all of Irisk and her powers are super unique. She can work with the four elements but is also bound to Niko who is a Shadow. The magic concept was honestly my favorite part in this book. Katerina is a strong and powerful character, and I really liked her.
Niko is so protective, and he is the one who falls first. However, he is torn between his duty of marrying Elena and his love for Katerina and that was sometimes a bit back and forth and annoyed me. Sometimes I needed a bit more of his perspective to fully understand him.
Katerina and Niko work together to guard this world from demons and other dangers. They are a good team, but their bond goes beyond them working together and they start feeling something for each other which is highly forbidden. One of my favorite scenes was when Katerina could call for Niko just through their love bond. The plot was action-packed and fast-paced and immediately sucked you in and that in combination with the forbidden romance was really good.
If you’re looking for a good romantasy with great characters, forbidden love and some Viking vibes, definitely check out Fate and Fury. 4 stars.

I genuinely don’t have words for this book right now. Blew me right out of the park. I found the first few chapters a tad slow but I understand it’s world building and that just comes part and parcel with fantasy books. But let me tell you after the first few chapters I was HOOKED!!
Fast paced. Magic. Shape shifters. Demons. Prophecies. Shadow daddy’s 😉 Slight hunger games ish vibe. Plot heavy. Sass and banter. Spice. Darkness & deception. Everything I love!!
I was laughing, I was crying, I was anxious, excited, scared .. all of the above. What a rollercoaster!!
I struggled in the beginning with some words and phrases used but I got used to this over time! I thought the world building was incredible! So descriptive I felt like I was there with them.
BLURB Katerina Ivanova is the most powerful Dimi in Iriska.
I rarely rate books 5⭐️ but this one is a must! Full of tension, angst, chemistry and an overwhelming sense of duty! Fans of Romantasy, forbidden love, and supernatural intrigue.. this one’s for you! I cannot wait for book 2!!
