Fate will take them down a path they never thought they’d walk.
Liam Being Autistic, I'm an expert over thinker, but all I seem to do with Carter is react on impulse. I’ve spent years avoiding friendships—the last one ended up an unmitigated disaster—but there’s something about Carter that effortlessly draws me in. Maybe it’s the fact that he defended my little sister. Maybe it’s his melodic voice. Or maybe it’s how accepting he is of my…quirks. I could keep listing his attributes forever and never be able to guess how he gripped me from the start. What I do know is this has resulted in my first crush in years.
Carter All I wanted was one friend who wasn’t grossly in love and busy planning a life of bliss with their perfect match. When I met Liam, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. He’s a fascinating man—brilliant, kindhearted, and funny, even when he doesn’t know it. But nothing is ever that easy. Looking back, the road to having a fake boyfriend was simple enough: One nasty ex. One very important meeting. One lie to defend Liam’s pride. Add that all up and the result is us pretending to be happily in love. But there’s a small detail I forgot to mention. I’m straight—or at least that’s what I thought before Liam kissed me.
Wants and Needs is a Contemporary MM Romance and Book 7 in the Fan Service Series. While it's technically a standalone, it would be best enjoyed by reading the series in order. This book has no cliffhangers and ends in a HEA. There are a lot of very gay things happening inside, so if that's not for you, then this book isn't either. If it is, then welcome to the mostly low-angst world of the Fan Service Series, I'm thrilled to have you and hope you've enjoyed this journey.
I've only read a couple of books in this series, but this story has made me want to go back and read all the rest.
I really liked the relationship between Liam and Carter, but mostly I liked how the focus was actually on them getting to know each other rather than a string of sex scenes. I feel like I know both of these characters really well, it was easy to cheer them on, and they just fit together so nicely.
There is a big cast of side characters that could be confusing but there is a glossary at the beginning of the book. In the previous book I read, I did find it hard to keep up, but the way Carter explained who each of them were to Liam was really helpful for me also. I really enjoyed the found family aspect and the strong bonds of friendship, as well as the way Liam was treated like a person and not a diagnosis, but also that the people who mattered really took his needs into consideration.
I would have liked to see a bit more of them between the beginning of their relationship and the epilogue though because we see much more of them just building their friendship - the relationship doesn't change until well after the halfway point and I just wanted more of them actually together. I also wanted to see a bit more of the outcome and success with ESoothe too after it was such a huge part of the plot.
I'll definitely be going back and reading the books that I missed though!
***** I received an ARC of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review
A beautiful comforting story. No angst, just two people getting to know and accepting each other and their individuality. I can see this book getting a little boring for someone who is not acquainted with this series. There are many many people many many names from previous books and the actual romance is a slow burn that takes a while to take off. In essence the actual romance starts at the halfway point. Before that, it was just a series of meetings without feelings involved. And then it becomes a fake dating situation. But once the fall in love it's a beautiful and sweet. The autistic representation is on point and delicate and shows that love really does conquer all. Carter's patience and understanding to look at Liam, the man, beyond his quirks gives them both a chance at this beautiful love story. As always in Hinsel Meyer's books, the friends/family are a huge part of their world and it makes them all stronger. "Each one of you is like my favorite songs..." What a beautiful sentiment 😊
THIS IS BOOK 7! DO NOT START HERE!! Seriously go back now. Don’t be like me and start this book first 😅
Slow burn ✅ Fake dating ✅
Trigger warnings Cheating (not by MCs) Social Anxiety Autism Teenage pregnancy Death of parents Prolonged grieving
One of the main characters is autistic and I want to emphasise that autism is a vast spectrum. If you’ve met one person with autism, …then you’ve met one person with autism. I appreciate that the author used sensitivity readers.
This is book 7 and if you’re starting off here, don’t worry because there is a character glossary. ( No - GO TO BOOK 1!!)
“Who the hell are you?” I growl at him. “I’m Carter Din,” “Why were you talking to my sister?”
So Liam and Carter meet and it doesn’t go well. Carters been invited to Liam’s parents place for dinner as a thank you for helping his teenaged sister, London, on the plane ride.
Yeah all these other characters from previous books are a little confusing if you’re like me and have jumped in with book seven as the first time reading this series.
Carter intrigued Liam and he suddenly finds himself tagging along with his parents to a birthday party Carter will be at.
Carters and Liam have a deep conversation. Liam is highly intelligent, the usual autism trope. I think he is like a musical savant. But I do like the app he developed, I wonder if it actually exists 🤔 It can create a playlist to regulate neurotransmitter production based on the current emotional state of whoever answers five questions.
Carter is also intrigued by Liam. Liam tells him that he is mildly autistic with social anxiety.
Carters friends join them.
“People are assholes, and most of them don’t know a savant isn’t only someone very smart and talented in a specific field but also someone who’s Autistic. And music is your thing, right? Do you have perfect pitch?”
Hmm this George guy, is he gonna be a problem? I don’t think so, he has his own book because yes I did run back to look at the character glossary 😅
Aww Liam and London’s sibling relationship is adorable.
London kinda orchestrates a dinner date between Liam and Carter. Liam’s douche of an ex shows up and Carter gets all protective and says they are boyfriends.
Also love the name for the ex - Robin Graves - Grave Robber 🤣
‘It hits me then, that I can’t not go to the Mayor’s Ball. And now that I know Dirk will be there, I can’t not go with Carter. We’re going to have to pretend he’s my boyfriend and has been for two years.’
Liam and Carter prepare for fake dating.
‘Soft, warm, strong. Those are all, at the same time, words I’d use to describe Liam, so I guess that makes sense….Those damn eyes, they’re so pretty.’
Carter and Liam barge in to o Carter’s home . Footballers and rockstars I think? There’s like 4 of them.
‘God, they’re all such overachievers. It’s as annoying as it is inspiring, but I regress.’
Soo many characters from past books lol
Wow -all the action at the ball and afterwards! Liam kisses Carter at the end of the night and Carter is like wait - I’m straight!!
Carter needs his bestie CJ, and starts to question his sexuality.
Liam is embarrassed and analysing what happened with his friends.
Liam and Carter share another kiss and then discuss it together. They go off on their first date.
Liam had hoped Michelle would invest in his awesome app but she declined and I’m pretty sure it’s because of his ex.
84% in and finallllllly …. There’s sexy times
Ok so Liam gets another investor and it all works out but WTF?! Why did Michelle not invest? Where was some Karmic justice to the ex- boyfriend ?? It seems like Grave Robber was causing issues … then nothing??? I’m so confused and unsatisfied.
Two epilogues and no answers.
And another bonus epilogue you can sign up for. We are supposed to just forget the ex , and the potential investor ???
“I love you,” “You do?” I ask, wonder filling every square inch of my body. “Like I’ve never loved anyone before,” he confirms, and I can see it in his eyes. That bright blue is especially stark today. “I love you too,” I confess. “Also like I’ve never loved anyone before. I know it’s not original, but you’re the one who’s good with words. I’m just the lucky guy who gets to be by your side.”

I enjoyed this so much! I loved how Liam's neurodiversity was approached. Carter and Liam were both so endearing and I loved them as a couple. I really enjoyed their journey towards their happily ever after. I loved how protective Carter was of Liam right from the start and also how he tried to act in a way that had Liam feeling safe. I loved the fact that he asked questions and listened to Liam, but also knew intrinsically what to do and how to act. Liam is such a great, smart and endearing character! I really enjoyed moments where his humor showed through and when he felt safe enough to open up and be himself. This was such a beautiful story and I ended up shedding some tears throughout. The story touched me in a way not a lot of them do and it was a joy to read it. While it's a slow burn I honestly didn't notice. The story was so good and it was great to see everything play out between Carter and Liam. This was the first book I read in this series, and I could follow long perfectly. Now I'm curious to go back and read everyones stories. I really enjoyed their little found family, they were such a great group.
If you're looking for a book with opposites attract, fake dating and great mental health rep then this is the book for you.
oh, this was a nice surprise. I didn't know what to expect as I am quite sure, this is my first book by Hinsel Meyer
but it was a great love story with a lot of developments. fortunately for me, as I don't really like the "fake boyfriend " thing, that is only a small part in this story.
I loved both MCs as they both are complex characters with their own insecurities and troubles.
the secondary characters were fun ... so don't worry, this series doesn't need to be read in order
Wants and Needs by Hinsel Meyer is the 7th book in her Fan Services series. I suggest that you read the others before this one as they contain characters and situations that are prominent in this book. Liam Trent is autistic, brilliant, kind-hearted, funny, and a musician entrepreneur. He holds some very advanced degrees and throughout his life has discovered ways to calm himself with music. He, along with the help of two autistic programmers and friends, have developed an App called ESoothe, that uses 5 questions to choose songs based on individual choices that will immediately calm a person down. He is in the process of finding investors when he meets Carter Din. Carter manages his friends’ art galleries: Sculpt owned by Sebas and St. Anthony’s owned by CJ. He has been in England to sell his childhood home after his parents died several years ago and helped Liam’s sister, London, when a passenger on the plane they were on was bothering her. At first Liam didn’t like him but there was something about Carter’s calm voice that spoke to him. He has trouble reading people’s expressions, gets very confused at their reactions, or interpreting social cues so he often keeps to himself. It turns out that his family knows many of Carter’s friends so he knows a few of them too. They were invited to CJ’s birthday celebration in California but he wasn’t going to go until Carter said he would be there aa he was intrigued by him but not sure why. At the party there are too many people around him so he leaves and goes to sit on a rock a distance away from everyone. Carter sees him and goes and sits next to him where they start to talk. Liam tells him all about ESoothe and that he is autistic and bad at peopling, has social anxiety, and wears earbuds because of all the sounds. He’s also worried that people will make fun of him because of these things. Carter realizes he needs to be truthful and direct and that all the people and sounds at the party are too much for Liam. Then Carter’s friends come up and talk to them and are very accepting so Liam is hopeful he has made some friends, which is something he doesn’t have. When they return home, they go out for dinner and Dirk, Liam’s longtime ex, interrupts them and sneers at Liam and Carter defends him. They realize that Dirk will be at the Mayor’s Ball where Liam wants to talk to Michelle Blackwell to see if she will invest in the app, so they will have to pretend that they are boyfriends. For this they will have to be very touchy-feely as this is how Liam acts when he is in love. When they are at the ball Liam kisses Carter who says something that causes him to leave very upset. Their friends help them with advice on how to mend their relationship with apologies and an experiment with more kisses and Carter realizing he is bi, and they decide to be boyfriends which eventually leads to some steamy scenes. When funding for the app falls through Liam feels like he is at a crossroads but once again Carter and their friends come through with ideas to help and move forward with releasing it. All of this leads them to fall in love. I really enjoyed this book, as I have all the others in the series. It is very interesting to see how an autistic person acts and reacts in situations and you really see this with Liam. He is brilliant and being in social situations is very hard for him but he sees something in Carter who is calm and wants to help him in any way he can. Carter finds Liam fascinating and it was easy for him to develop feelings for him, even though he didn’t think he would ever have an intimate relationship with a man. Their friends and family are everywhere in this story, helping them when they needed it, teasing them and adding some humor along the way. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about characters with qualities you aren’t always seeing who show their flaws and accomplishments in a way that endears them to you while they solve the problems that life throws at them so they can find happiness and love in their lives.
This has been such a great series with memorable characters and a found family that just got bigger and bigger. Thanks to Hinsel for the glossary of characters, by book 7 there were a lot!! In this book we have Carter Din, an Englishman who is best friends with Adam (book 1) and CJ (book 6), and good friends with all the other main characters of books 1-6. Carter’s love interest is Liam, an autistic musician and entrepreneur, friends with Hawk (book 4) and Wolf (book 6), members of the band Storm. There are football quarterbacks and other football players, a hockey great, famous and wealthy people galore, and side family members. When Liam meets Carter, there is a connection neither expected, along with an unexpected “date” that starts a chain of events to bring the two together. Though Carter has always considered himself straight, there are feelings he isn’t quite sure about when he thinks of Liam, leading to realizations about himself which he never anticipated. So much goes on, it’s almost impossible to pare it down without spoilers, just suffice it to say the story is engaging, entertaining, and held my interest throughout. All of these guys are people I would be proud to call friends, and I would guess other readers feel the same way.
I especially enjoyed the portrayal of Liam and his autism. Each person is special in their own way, and Liam’s characteristics were unique to him, as were his fellow programmers and app creative partners, William and Parker. I think the dialogue between the three (p.195-200) as they discuss friendship and then offer “advice” to Liam regarding a situation with Carter really captured some of the unique thought processes and expression of thoughts that could characterize some of those on the autism spectrum. It was so precise in wording, emotionless but perfectly appropriate, I thought it was perfectly written based on experiences I had in my classroom with some student. An interesting window into their world.
I would recommend this book as well as the other six to meet and grow to love a unique group of gay men with a wide range of personalities, supporting each other without question and welcoming in the new love interests as they are introduced to the group. One of these days I want to go back and read books 1-6 straight through to get the full effect of each couple and how the group dynamic expands and changes with each new addition. All are excellent reads.
MY OPINION: This might be my favorite. All of the books in this series have been outstanding, but something about the relationship between these two men tugs hard on my heart. There was a certain sense of sadness when I finished because I wanted more of their story. I needed to see how they worked together and how they figured out life together.
Liam is neurodivergent and lives his best life. Social queues are difficult for him, and being alone is his most comfortable state. But Carter tumbles into his world, and something between them works.
Carter is from the UK and had difficulty getting back to life, overcome by the loss of his parents. Dating wasn’t even on his radar. A friend who wasn’t coupled up, though, was something he was more than ready for, and the incredibly handsome and equally brilliant Liam fit the bill. Carter liked him a lot and was more than willing to be a great, protective friend to the shy man who needed guidance when it came to people.
These two men are both amazing individuals. Carter's self-discovery is comical and fun; his friend group, all of whom came from prior books, is very involved, and it’s wonderful to revisit with them again. The two men learning about each other and accepting that they could be together is a joy to witness. Having started the relationship as fake boyfriends, their becoming real boyfriends feels right. I cheered these two on the entire time, wanting them to have everything.
Hinsel handled this story so beautifully. She is one of my favorite authors, and it's easy for me to admit that I hate seeing the end of this series. I hope we see some of them show up in something new. Most of the books are pretty easy to read as standalones; however, be sure to read the information about each person included at the front of the book, as it will help you know who everyone is. The easiest thing is to read all the books, though, because they are all fantastic.
Such a wonderful, heartwarming love story, with great friends, great families, and a wonderful couple that has to figure out how intimacy, support, and love work best for them. Because we are all different, and it's those differences that make this couple special.
Put this right on top as your next book. You’ll be glad you did.
No one who isn’t part of my family has ever offered to explain other people to me like this, it’s making me feel closer to Carter already, like maybe we’re becoming friends. I think I’d like to have a friend. It’s been years since the last one.
Hinsel Meyer has written some beautiful characters and incredible couples, but Liam Trent and Carter Din in Wants and Needs are a couple that I am going to hold very dear to me.
The final book in the Fan Service series is a superb way to end this wonderful series, although it's bittersweet to say goodbye to all of the amazing guys and this friendship group we've met throughout the series.
Carter is returning from England, where he had the task of packing up and selling his late parents' home. The past few years have been challenging for Carter, who holds guilt over his parent's deaths.
But it's on his way back to America that he helps a stranger and changes the course of his life.
Liam Trent is collecting his sister from the airport when he meets Carter - and whilst their initial meeting isn't exactly a meet cute - they begin to get to know each other shortly afterwards.
I loved how once they met properly and got to know each other, Carter was a soothing presence for Liam. Whether it was his laugh or his voice, Liam found calm and comfort in Carter.
And Carter was automatically attuned to Liam. He could read Liam’s wants and needs, whilst he enjoyed Liam’s attention on him in a way he hadn't experienced before.
I particularly loved the scene where they sat overlooking the party on the hill, and Carter explained who each of his friends were to Liam. My heart hurt that Liam hadn't had any friends for several years, and he worried Carter's friends would make fun of him - which these amazing men would never do. But just knowing that Liam’s differences meant he'd suffered ridicule in the past was so hard to hear.
For me, Liam is just such a precious character, and Hinsel Meyer has written his autism perfectly.
Liam is a genius. He's not only an incredibly gifted musician, he also has specialised in neurophysiology, and has developed an algorithm to start an app, ESoothe, which will play a set of songs based on the listener's current emotional state and help alleviate stress or moments that might cause a panic attack.
This man is more amazing than he'll ever fully realise, but thankfully, after a little fake dating due to an unexpected - and unwanted - visitor from the past, Carter soon realises that there is nothing fake about how he feels for Liam.
I absolutely adore these guys together. Their relationship development is perfect, and they are a joy to read, leaving this series on the perfect note.
“Thank you,” I whisper at him, knowing those words will never be enough. Maybe someday I’ll find those right words, maybe someday I’ll be able to describe exactly how he makes me feel.
I know he’s going to always take care of me, I know I can trust him to respect my needs, I know he’s the man I want to hold on to for the rest of my life.
After years of searching, I’ve finally found my home, and it’s Liam.
Every single time Hinsel has a book coming out, I just know I have to read. I am never disappointed with any books that I’ve read and I’m only going to want more. This book was just so perfect. I will say reading this book definitely makes me want to go back and read all the other books in this series.
I freaking loved Carter and Liam from start to finish but I really enjoyed Liam. You get to see him when it’s just too much. I’m a huge fan of the mental health aspect and man, this was done so perfectly.
What I loved was when Carter when to Liam’s mom and the advice she gave to him to take care of Liam. I just loved it so much. The taking care of him and just whatever he needed was so sweet. Like, Carter knew he was hurting, but he was there for him.
And the ending was just amazing, especially when Liam tells more about his app to CJ. Ugh, that scene made me all weepy. I love that he didn’t want a handout. I also loved how the ending we also get Cher in her little shoes and her purple sweater. Of course she would be the type of dog to wear stuff like that. Ha.
I really loved how the two got to know one another before just jumping into bed with one another. Simply perfection and I really wanted more from these two.
I about died when they named Liam’s ex the grave robber. Haha. That had me dying with laughter. I just couldn’t believe it.
All in all, this is definitely one of my favorite books by Hinsel.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
"I have this amazing man willing to put up with me, and on top of that, he thinks I’m perfect just the way I am." - Liam
"I did say I like to be surrounded by beautiful things, and his soul and mind are the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen." - Carter
Liam has autism, and I really love that Carter always asked him what he needed and how he could help Liam feel more comfortable. Carter was always very clear in the things he said and did; he always gave Liam an explanation, when he needed that and told him exactly how he felt and what to expect. Liam isn't used to someone treating him with so much patience and understanding outside his family. Liam just felt very safe and understood and allowed Carter to be there for him in stressful situations. Liam loves music a lot, and I'm glad that he can help people with their emotions with the app that he created and that everyone supports him in his ideas and sees how incredible he is.
I love how they were open and honest with each other. Carter realized that if he wanted to form a connection with Liam, he had to be honest and genuine and that Liam always means well. I love that he never compared Liam with someone that doesn't have autism; he sees the difference, but he never expected Liam to "act" like he didn't have it (I know how that feels). That is a struggle that Liam knows from his past relationship (and other people that just don't put in effort to understand him), so it was very healing and scary to fully be himself around Carter and their friends/family.
I cried a lot because of the way they treat each other, because they put in a lot of work into understanding each other, with lots of important conversations. Carter is the perfect partner for Liam, and Liam is perfect for Carter. Liam helped Carter with the guilt that he felt about his parents and listened to him when he needed to take things slow and they took their time. They are a perfect match and a perfect ending to the series.
This book is so incredibly beautiful, and I see myself in Liam a lot. That was very beautiful and hopeful to read. It's just so validating to read about someone like you and them getting the love that they deserve, where they can be fully themselves around. I even cried when I saw "Epilogue" because I just didn't want it to end! Hinsel did an incredible job with portraying autism realistically, and it was written with a lot of care, showing all the different situations, the good and the difficult moments!
WANTS AND NEEDS is the seventh and final book in the Fan Service series, although you can read it as a standalone, as I did. Did it impact my understanding of the characters and storyline? If I were being completely pedantic, then yes, but only because I kept getting Wolf and Hawk mixed up in my mind through not having read their books. Otherwise, a resounding no!
Carter is a sweet character whom we first meet in London, as he prepares to sell the family home. After he has completed that task, he catches a flight back to LA, where he saves a sixteen-year-old girl from the sleazy attentions of an older man. Her brother, Liam, is meeting her at the airport and is understandably concerned when he sees her being friendly with a man he doesn't know. Liam is also autistic and has some problems picking up facial expressions and social cues.
The slow-burn relationship between Carter and Liam was written so perfectly! Liam's version of autism was so clear, it made it easily understandable to anyone unfamiliar with it. And I say his version of it, because it isn't a one-size-fits-all situation. Carter's acceptance of Liam was pure, and I loved how he wasn't afraid to ask others for help when he didn't fully understand the situation or know what the best thing to do was.
This is the first book by this author I have read, and it won't be the last. If I don't read anything else, I need to read the other books in this series! I loved all of the characters and absolutely need to read their stories!!! If they are written half as well as this one is, I know I will love them all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me. 4.5 rounded up.

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Jul 18, 2025
A beautiful romantic love story… going from a new friendship to a very hilarious bi awakening and some intense kisses to endearments and a lovely relationship between 2 very sweet characters.
One of them is autistic and at first I was arguing with myself if that storyline is for me, because my kid is autistic. So normally I want to escape my reality with reading my books but I was intrigued by the plot - I wanted to see how the character is described and written- and well I gave it a chance… Oh boy that was one of the best decisions I made lately. Liam & Carter have a special place in my heart now and I’m filled with so much happiness right now I can’t describe it properly. Being a writer would come in handy but yeah… nope sorry!
Liam - oh it’s amazing how Hinsel described him and his inside thoughts, his troubles with reading expressions and being around a lot of people. He is sweet and shy, also very intelligent and humble about his talents. It was amazing to see how lovely Carter behaves around Liam - he puts himself in front of him whenever he thinks it’s too much for Liam or thinks people want to be cruel to him and tends to his wants and needs. He sits silent next to him while Liam listens to his music to calm down. That‘s so romantic… and everyone should have a friend like Carter - he is such a kind human being!
I love most of the books I read and each book is different as is the story and the characters behind… and sometimes there‘s one like Liam & Carter‘s story that sweeps me of my feet and steals a piece of my heart. I’m truly speechless and so full of happy and good feelings right now.
Thanks for the opportunity to ARC read this one - the last book in the Fan Service Series - I have 8 new books on my TBR - I want to read everything about these amazing group of friends.
This was a super slow burn of a book that had excellent neurodivergent representation featuring Liam, the brilliant, autistic MC, who created a music app that allowed users to use music to soothe their emotions and Carter who’s British, and the manager for two of his best friend’s art galleries.
I swear, Liam touched my heart so many times. His struggle was so absolutely real and he tried SO hard to behave as he felt others expected him to and I was extremely thankful for him to have met Carter. Long before they became a couple, he supported Liam and lifted him up, showing him he didn’t HAVE to behave a certain way to be liked by others.
I loved their entire group of friends and how they supported and even teased each other, especially how they welcomed Liam into the group, accepted him as he was and never made him uncomfortable or feel like he didn’t belong.
This book contained a lot of big emotions like fear of failure, depression and loneliness due to being different but, along with that, there were some equally big friendships and family relationships that helped ease the stress our MCs struggled with and ultimately led us to their HEA. Overall, I thought the story itself was amazing but, to me, it kinda dragged on too long; I would have loved for Liam and Carter to have gotten together much sooner than they finally did. Readers who are into relationships for the long haul, are gonna love this book (lately I’ve tended towards either shorter books or where the MCs get together earlier on in the book, evidently I’m not particularly patient ;D) but for me it’s a 4.25 star read.
I received a copy of this book for free from GRR but am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the final book in the Fan Service Series and it is a very strong finish. I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to read. This is the story of Liam Trent and Carter Din. Liam is kind, brilliant, autistic and a pianist of the highest standard. He has degrees that allowed him to develop an App called ESoothe. Along with two friends/coders his app asks 5 simple questions that chooses songs that will help ease a persons anxiety and anxiousness. The same thing that has helped him throughout his life. I really liked that the focus on the story was about Liam and not on his autistic traits or quirks. Obviously he is going to have some but don't we all whether we are autistic or not. Carter is a manager of his friends Art Gallery. He is still coming to terms with the death of his parents and the fight that they had before the accident. He saves Heather (Liam's sister) from a handsy passenger on his flight. The two talk and hit it off. When Liam picks her up at the airport, he goes all big brother on Carter. Luckily Carter finds it amusing rather than insulting. This is their story. I liked that the story was a slow burn for both MCs. I enjoyed how they became friends and the surprise when something more was wanted. This is a well written book and is easy to read. I believe that it could be enjoyed as a standalone read. But once you get to know all the secondary characters, you are going to want to go back and read the earlier books. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a great end to this series.
Angsty gay, first times, gay-for-him scenario Carter Din left the UK when he went off to college in the US, where he now works and lives in NYC. Since his parents’ death, he has felt no desire to return to the UK but it is time. He needs to sell their stately home and settle their estates so he can move on physically, mentally and emotionally. On his flight home he comes to the aid of a young girl who is bothered by a seat companion. When they arrive back in NYC, the young girl is met by her brother, Liam who is brilliant, handsome and has Autism. Their meet-cute is not so cute because Liam Trent tends to get overly excited due to his condition. Liam is a 36yo gay man. Carter is a 29yo straight man. Or is he? Liam’s struggles with Autism are so authentic; he grapples with them internally for the reader to experience his discomfort, especially as respects missing social cues. A good bit of the story revolves around Carter coming to terms with his attraction to a man, Liam and Liam’s vision through his “Autistic vision.” Fortunately for Liam, Carter is insightful in an uncanny way where people are concerned so he notices how Liam will react in certain situations. This book was very good but slow. Lots of thinking and less action. It was nice to see cameos of former men from the prior books. Meyer tied up lots of loose ends with this one book. My favorite quote: “when your wants and needs are the same, life becomes a dream come true.” That is how life becomes for Carter and Liam, a dream come true. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. The blurb is quite comprehensive so I have tried not to give a different angle to my review.
This story made me stay up late as I got so into reading about the evolution of Liam and Carter's relationship. Each guy is dealing with his own needs. Carter is still dealing with leftover grief and guilt from the death of his parents and still leaning into the found family that is helping him move forward. He has a very strong and loving friend group that is helping and supporting him. Carter has good people instincts that cause him as he is flying home from England to rescue a young female fellow passenger from inappropriate behavior from the much older guy in the seat next to her. Rescuing London and carefully and respectfully interacting with her during the flight brings him into contact with Liam, her older brother who is picking her up. Carter and Liam's first interactions were not great but Carter's protective instincts and caring nature is what allows him through further interactions to get to know Liam. Liam is what Carter needs as well. Being with Liam helps Carter understand something he was not aware of in relation to his sexuality. The pace of their friendship and then love relationship felt just right and getting to spend time with so many couples from this series just made their journey so much more for me as a reader who has been reading along as these stories came out. This was such a good story to end on. But I will miss these guys. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Bittersweet to see them go but what a beautiful ending to the series
I found Hinsel at the very start, falling in love with Adam and Sebas and then every couple since. All the books and series have a bit of crossover but Hinsel is great in providing a glossary to help newcomers (and fans with short memories!) sort out who's who. We met Carter in It Has To Be You but he's a bit of a mystery. Now we find out everything we didn't know and see him fall in love. I adored Carter and Liam's romance. It's a slow burn but that was perfect for the two of them. There's a lot of big emotions in their lives and in their love. Hinsel has obviously taken great care with Liam's character and that translates onto the page. Liam's autism is portrayed with empathy but no sugar-coating, and gave me an insight I don't think I've had before. Carter is inherently attuned to Liam almost from the start, but doesn't see him as someone with autism, just a fascinating man who he wants to be around. As always and especially in this last book of the series, there are cameos from familiar faces and beloved couples. This story is not just a love letter to Liam and Carter but to the other six couples too, as well as their friends and family. It definitely takes a village in Hinsel's world and it's one I'm going to keep on visiting for the long haul.
Carter stepping in when London was in an extremely uncomfortable situation was so sweet. I also loved how Cater and Liam are both wary of each other because they both just want to make sure London is safe.
I loved how Carter responded to Liam once they decided to let each other in a little bit. He listened to him and took him into consideration when it came to his interests and what he needed to be comfortable in situations due to his neurodivergence. He talked him through situations to give him a better understanding when it came to people and circumstances in a way that worked for Liam. The communication between these two was great. There were a few moments when it took some time for them to get on the same page but even then they were talking through their problems separately to better understand how to make things work between them.
I loved London and Milton and their meddling ways!! I loved the friendship group and the family dynamics. I had a great time reading this!!
This book really touched me. Liam’s autism was portrayed with such care, and it was beautiful to see a story that didn’t just include neurodiversity—but centred it in such a heartfelt, respectful way.
Carter and Liam are absolute opposites, but they fit together so perfectly. I loved how Carter always made Liam feel safe—asking questions, listening, being patient without ever treating him like he had to change. Their connection felt honest, vulnerable, and full of mutual respect. And Liam? He’s smart, endearing, hilarious, and so easy to root for.
It’s a slow burn, but I honestly didn’t even notice. Their emotional journey took center stage, and I was so invested in watching it unfold. Plus, the found family vibes were amazing—I haven't read the earlier books in the Fan Service series, but now I definitely want to.
This book had me tearing up in the best way. It was validating and hopeful, especially seeing someone like Liam get the love he deserves. If you want a romance with fake dating, opposites attract, great mental health rep, and genuine warmth—this is the one.
I'm not sure starting with book 7 of a series is always a good idea, but in this case it was. Yes, there were a lot of fun side characters that definitely make me want to check out the rest of the series for their stories, but I really was here for Liam and Carter's story. Liam is the autistic son of a successful singing couple, and Carter is starting a new life in America. Due to Liam's sister, London, needing some help, Carter and Liam meet. Carter's bi awakening is one of the loveliest parts of the story, though initially he believes he is straight. But then Liam's utterly repellent ex - kudos to the writer for making him so awful - causes Carter's protective instincts to emerge. Those instincts are the path to Carter figuring out he likes Liam as more than a friend, especially when they become fake boyfriends to irritate the repellent ex. There's then a lovely slow burn relationship between them that works rather beautifully. The non romance plot is also wonderful and the ending is just beautiful. Wonderful story.
It’s the last book of the series and we finally get Sebastian’s and CJ’s best friend and art galleries manager - Carter Din’s story!
“sometimes what you want is not what you need, but when your wants and needs are the same, life becomes a dream come true.”
A chance meeting at an airport changed the lives of Carter Din and Liam Trent forever!
A friendship was forged which developed into the most sweetest, patient, loving and supportive relationship that neither wanted but could not help to avoid…
I loved the support they received from all our couples and Liam’s family and how everything was rounded off beautifully with sweet, heartfelt and endearing moments that will have the tear ducts working overtime so have the tissues ready!
Liam’s autism was portrayed tactfully and beautifully and Carter’s unending patience and support was awe inspiring and endearing - they were just so perfect for each other by understanding each other’s wants and needs beautifully!
I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.
This is a fake relationship to more romance, featuring Liam and Carter, and is book seven in the Fan Service series.
Liam is used to being alone, but meeting Carter changes everything and sparks his first real crush in years. When a fake relationship turns real, Carter starts to question his feelings—and his sexuality.
Liam and Carter’s story went from friends to more and was full of heart, tenderness, and quiet moments that sneak up on you. Liam’s perspective as an autistic character felt honest and real, and Carter’s gentle approach made their connection all the more special. What starts as a fake dating setup slowly blossoms into something deeply genuine and sweet. There is something beautiful about soft romances with a slow build.
I’m a little sad that this is the final book of the series but I’m eager to see what’s next for Hinsel Meyer.
Things to expect in this book are: Book 7 in series MM romance Slow burn Fake relationship Friends to more Secret crush Neurodivergent rep Autism rep Horrible ex Demi rep Bi awakening Little bit of spice Found family HEA
Thank you Hinsel Meyer for this ARC. This review is entirely my own.
I am sobbing. I am going to curl up in a blanket burrito and ignore everything. Why? Because of this book. This book is the last in the series and I am NOT ready to say good bye but this book was the best way to end this series.
Carter Din has returned from London after selling his home. On the way he helps someone in need and that sets him on a road that he never expected. Liam Trent is waiting to pick up his baby sister when he meets someone that will see him in a way that very few people can. Cater and Liam's first meeting is anything but cute. What follows is two men finding a friend and from there finding that the person that you are looking for is the one that you least expect. Someone from the past, one little lie and one misunderstanding will give us one of the most romantic books.
I love how Carter is with Liam and does everything he can to be in Liam's world. Liam is Autistic and this author's portrayal of someone with Autism was perfect!! This author didn't just take a few characteristics of Autism and boom here's Liam. This author gives us an in depth look in the mind of what is is like to be Autistic and brings you into that world in a way that makes you want to both protect Liam and cheer him on. Carter is hurt after his parents death and the guilt that he can't seem to let go of. Carter is one that I wanted to wrap in a blanket burrito and play with his hair. Liam's way of looking at the world is balm to Carter's heart and soul. Watching these two go from friends to more was beautiful. Plus, we get to see characters from the other books and all that does is add to this story.
Having to leave this world is so difficult. These characters have got such a hold on me that all I want is to go and live in their world. Reading this book makes me want to forget that I have read this series just to go back and relive it over and over.
“You delight me too.” “I think this might be the most romantic moment of my life,” he says, and my head snaps up to look at him.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a beautiful slow burn, hurt/comfort romance with bi-awakening. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Liam and Carter. Liam is autistic and it was interesting to be in his mind and see the way he thinks and his mindset. I think the author did this very well. I loved the dynamic between them and the way their relationship developed. It felt believable and understandable. Carter's feelings towards Liam are new and unexpected for him. Like Liam, he needs to process and figure himself out. The two of them have their own insecurities and I liked the way their worked through things for themselves. I got really invested in these two guys and wanted them to have their happy ending. I also liked their supportive friends. 4 stars
Liam and Carter are a great couple. We get to see as they slowly become friends, then their attraction grows to something more, so it's friends to lovers story and slow burn one. I really enjoyed how their relationship developed. Thanks to their excellent communication, you can feel that these two really care about each other and you quickly root for their relationship. Also we have autism representation. The author devoted considerable attention to explaining Liam's behavior and his daily struggles. This made the story engaging and it was easy to sympathize with the main character. There are many secondary characters in the book who create a great group of friends. These are couples from previous books, but if someone hasn't read the other books in the series, they can easily find their way around this one. Although I had a great time reading this, there were times when I felt the plot dragged and I became a bit bored. That's my only complain, but overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this book from GRR, and this is my honest review.
This book was a bit different for Meyer since neither of the MCs are celebrities. Carter is part of the original friend group, and Liam knows several of their partners, so it did make sense to still keep their story in the series.
This story had the complex characters I’ve grown to love from Meyer. I thought the autistic rep was well written and I really liked Liam. Carter was great and showing support without overwhelming him. I did feel like the external angst was a little one sided. Carter had his bi awakening, but even that wasn’t super dramatic
The story wasn’t super complex, although there were a couple sub plots. It’s low angst and pretty low heat as well. It was fun light read and a great addition to the series
I’m very sad to see this series end and say goodbye to this fantastic group of friends. I am very excited to see where Hinsel takes us next though!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review
I admit I am not an expert on autism but few of us are, even those with autism as everyone is different. I think this book and the author did their best to give some characters the freedom to be real for us and put a human face for the unaware with sensitivity and grace. I loved Liam in all his aspects as a man helping lead a straight man Carter through a bi-awakening and showing that he is lovable, sensitive, aware of his own limitations and adaptability and though different, still very much a man. I enjoyed Carter's British ways, his wonderful friends, his own sensitivity and awareness of his faults , limitations and acceptance of his "Darling's" ways. I loved reading of Liam and Carter becoming friends, falling into comfort and finally falling in need and love. This book is a beautiful blend and homage to romance, friendship and emotion. It's a slow burn but I cannot praise the feelings enough.
A delightfully sweet romantic book. Liam is autistic so he avoids more people and relationship but upon meeting Carter he develops his first crush in many years. Carter is grounded and I love how he sees Liam as Liam might not see himself. Few main characters are written with autism but this character is written with perfection of someone with autism. I love how each man sees and brings out the best in one another. In short they are perfect for one another. It does move slowly so be patient getting to the good stuff, and it will be more impactful and meaningful if you have read the proviso books, but not a necessity. You can still love Liam and Carter. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.
