Sequel to Galax-Arena: the story of how Joella, Peter and Liane deal with life on the run from Project Genesis Five. Conveyed from the viewpoint of both Joella and her brother Peter, the three escapees are still haunted by their past experiences at the Arena. Trying to locate their mother, Joella and Liane separate from their brother and unintentionally take shelter in a corrupt-breeding program 'Terra Farma'. Whereas on the search for his sisters, Peter must use his survival instincts when he is forced to endure the harsh secret organization 'Birds of Prey'. Trying to expose Project Genesis Five and its control of both organizations, Joella, Peter and Liane must unite once more in their bid for freedom.
Galax Arena is so omg one of my most favourite books EVER. And the ending always drove me insane and it killed me that there was no sequel.
And then suddenly, one day, like ten years down the line, there WAS a sequel. And I pounced on it and read it and... it's just not as awesome. The original book does fine on its own without this follow-up.
There's also meant to be a third book... perhaps in another few years?!
All I can say is I grabbed this book at random from a library, thought it would be terrible but it ended up being the strangest and most interesting book I've read Although I grabbed a sequel to a book instead of the first book so I guess I'll be searching for the first now. But this is definitely a great book.
I rarely read sequels- they are just never as good as the original; however Galax-Arena left me hanging and I couldn't wait to get a copy of the sequel. This is a hard hitting dystopia, made all the more horrifying by being set in Australia. Rubinstein has just oh so slightly exaggerated our current world to create a frightening society driven by consumerism where everything is for sale.
Gritty dystopia. Very detailed world building started to feel a bit forced about halfway through, but made sense when links were made between different groups. To some extent this was due to multiple story streams following the sibling protagonists after they get separated and each encounter a Secret Organisation with nefarious plans. Nice to see the Australian Outback as a dystopian setting.
