This was such a beautifully written book. I was hooked from the very first page and kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. The story was easy to follow and I enjoyed following Lisa through the book and wanted her to do well with her singing career and to rekindle her relationship with her ex. Overall, a brilliant novel that I highly recommend to other readers. I look forward to reading more by the author.

In another life Lisa was a singer in the band Sapphire Stars but her music career ended many years ago. Now divorced and with her daughter soon to leave home Lisa looks back on her years as a singer and her relationship with Nick.

I was first introduced to this author when I read Be More Octopus, the first book in The Dashford Comedies series and that series became a firm favourite. So I was really intrigued to learn that this book was the first in a new series called Sapphire Stars.

I would describe the storyline as a rom com second chance romance, with drama, set against the music industry. I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t help but finish it in a few hours. The story moves between the past and the present from the 1990s to present day. In the past we meet a very young Lisa who is part of Sapphire Stars and who has just won an award and just as she goes to accept it she trips and falls on National TV. Things go from bad to worse when on the same night she discovers her partner cheating on her and this is when she meets Nick. In the present we meet a very different Lisa. She is no longer part of the music industry but is clearly not happy in her job. This is when she reaches out to her band members and when they decide to reunite, her path once again crosses with Nick.

Lisa’s character goes through somewhat of a transformation and the Lisa we meet in the past and present do appear very different. The Lisa in the present has lost her love for music and put her dreams of singing on the back burner. She now spends her time in a career that she has no interest in. So when Lisa comes up with the idea of collaborating with her former bandmates this reignites her passion for music and life and we see glimpses of the old Lisa coming back.

As this is a second chance romance story it centres on Lisa, Nick and their relationship. Lisa met Nick at the height of her singing career and in the months they spent together they fell deeply in love but then something happened but it isn’t clear what. Part of the reader's journey is discovering what went wrong all those years ago that caused distance between Lisa and Nick that meant that they never communicated again for over 30 years. One of my favourite scenes is when Lisa and Nick come face to face for the first time. I loved how Lisa confronted Nick and demanded answers and didn’t back down. It showed how strong Lisa was as a character. It also showed not only how upset she was with Nick but how deeply she still cared for him. Her anger showed how much she still loved him and that she had never got over him. One of the main themes in the story is communication. It is the lack of communication that stops Lisa and Nick’s relationship from progressing. They each blamed the other as the reason for the relationship ending but were both completely wrong as it turned out that there was a third party involved that neither was aware of.

I was very excited to learn that Lisa and Nick will be returning in a second book scheduled for 2025 and I can’t wait to read it.

A fast paced modern romance comedy

I bought this novel having met the author at a book extravaganza in Coventry.

After lots of ups and downs, missed opportunities, cheating partners and friends with ulterior motives, I was hoping that Lisa would be back in the limelight and that everything works out well for her.

Great storyline, easy to follow characters and perfectly paced. I can’t wait for the rest of the series to come out! Very enjoyable written style which made for a great read.

The writing was light and pulled me in. I liked how the reader got to see what the two main characters were thinking about each other, although there were still a couple of surprises that happened along the way.

The chapters were fairly short so you moved through the story well. There was a good pace to the story, which made it easy to just keep on reading.

There was an interesting flow to the book. Whilst the chapters flowed nicely into one another, you noticeably skipped forward in time. There was no messing about. This technique also helped to keep the story moving. My attention was kept from the beginning, right through to the end.

The characters were good. I got very invested in their story and would quite happily read more about them. Obviously quite a lot had happened in their lifetimes and I enjoyed the suspense that was created by the miscommunication between characters (both intentionally and unintentionally) throughout their history.

I did feel sorry for the main character at times. I did like how she always carried on though and made good things happen.

As for the remaining characters, there were quite a few to keep a track of throughout the story, but the main ones had more information surrounding them so you didn't get too confused.

Lastly the settings. I enjoyed being in London. It was however a character focused story, so the detail that was there was just to ground the story.

Overall an enjoyable read.

Suzanne never misses!

I love anything Lissaman writes and when I saw this was going to be a second chance romance you know I was on it like white on rice, I love a second chance romance like no other and this author once again killed it. From the amazingly built characters that you cant help but love to the dual timeline set in two different time this had me hooked from the first chapter.

This book starts with a bang and there's never a dull moment, I love how Suzanne took us back in time to 90's London as she takes us on a journey through Lisa's life that really gets you connecting to this fmc. The scene are so vividly set through out and I could picture this whole novel playing out in front of me as I read. I cant wait to read what this author writes next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When a book starts with swear word that I have used to describe certain characters in my real life past, I knew I was onto a winner with this book!
Lisa hits a midlife crisis when her marriage breaks up and her youngest flying the nest to university, Lisa decides that this is finally the chance to go back to her singing career and take some time for her own needs for once! This follows Lisa as she takes the steps to getting her life back on track, sometimes with hilarious consequences!
I absolutely adore any book written by @suzannelissaman and this one doesn’t disappoint! An easy read, lovable characters packed with humorous moments- what is there not to love! This book pulled me out of a reading slump and I really enjoyed it from start to finish!

This is the first book of a lovely new series - The Sapphire Stars.
Having read Be More Octopus, by this author over the summer, I was excited to dive into this one too.

The writing style was once again really easy to read and I found myself racing through this without really thinking about how much I'd read.

Lisa was such a great character to explore and one that I found really relatable. Not so much with the divorce situation, but being of a certain age it was lovely to see more representation in a nice romance.
I loved watching Lisa navigating all that this age entails and reinventing herself beyond her failed marriage and children.

I found the romance story so satisfying - I can't really say too much about it for fear of spoilers - but I thought this was brilliant planned and written a d even got quite emotional in parts.

I think that there are so many spicy young romances around - don't get me wrong, I love these too!! - but it was lovely to see something that felt much more cosy and with a more relaxed lace for a change. I love diversity!

I also loved that this was set in the 90's which brought back so many great memories for me and had me reminiscing for a time - this really set the right atmosphere of the time.

Another great read and I'm still planning to read more by this author - I just need more hours in the day please!

Set in London, this second chance romance is beautifully written, and a real page turner. The story kept me thoroughly entertained, and I was really rooting for Lisa to have a second chance at happiness in her music career and with Nick. It’s so refreshing to read a romance centred on more mature characters. I would highly recommend this book to other readers.

I really enjoyed this read! I liked our main character Lisa and felt really sorry for her having to sell her house as it was her dream home and she had lived there for years. Despite it being a difficult time for her, I loved how she was seeing it as an opportunity for a fresh start and a catalyst of having a fresh start within everything, work included.

When she met up with Pete her former band member I was intrigued as to what was going to happen and I must admit I was with Mel on the bet at one point! I liked how the story went back in time to what had happened when the band were together originally to help fill those gaps in.

I most definitely was not expecting what happened on the talk show - I was in a completely different place as to what I thought had happened with Jim's dad! I loved the storyline and thought it was a great light-hearted read. I love Suzanne's writing style and I just seemed to fly through the book.
