Reading one of these darker romance books with a competitent female lead who doesn't shy away from the bad stuff & who doesn't mind getting her hands as dirty as the man is fantastic;
I encounter more misses then hits in the mafia subsection of the darker romance genre. Nine times out of ten the author will try to show how strong, sassy & self relent the heroine is, by making her unafraid to speak up and solving her own problems. Unfortunately this usually ends up making our 'star' looking like a argumentative spoilt teen1, who picks fights and stupidly shrugs of all offers of help, when it's evident that she can't dig herself out of whatever hole she's ultimately found herself in.
I knew that Onyx Heart would be more enjoyable then the majority of these genre offerings early on, for the simple reason that I didn't want to throttle Clara. She remains level headed throughout most of the story, and when she does put herself in harms way I can see her reasoning for doing so. Clara is a very modern heroine - she isn't a coward, isn't shy, isn't ashamed about her sexual experiences, and she is very streetwise. She isn't anyone's doormat, for sure.
Leonid is very confident and strong willed. His actions & the things he says aren't always likable, but they fit his personality and position very well. It makes the kindness he sometimes let slip more inpactful.
The romance angle really works; I really become caught up with the leads mutual attraction, budding romance and their feelings of hopelessness and inevitability, as there doesn't seem to be a way for them to find a happy ending. The development of their feeling towards each other doesn't feel too rushed given the surrounding circumstances, and their chemistry is instantly apparent.
In addition to the romance & crime, there is a whole series worth of soap opera twists and turns crammed into one book, so I couldn't begin to guess at what would happen next. I have high hopes for the second half of this story and I can't wait to read it.
The Bratva family rivalry is very intense and the scheming, infighting & plotting this involved is totally gripping. Mixed together with the dark romance elements, the humour, the soap opera levels of drama combine to make this impossible to put down.
I definitely was NOT left wanting more from the story. Highly recommended.

A one night stand produced the child of her enemy. Elijah is a gift even though he was not born in to a loving relationship between his parents. Clara lost her older brother Jake when they were ambushed by the Ravens who are part of the Russian Bratva. It is this traumatic experience that she learned her family was mafia. This changed the trajectory of her life. She became an enforcer in her father’s struggling business. Her father resented her on many levels one because she loved and her mother didn’t but also because Jake died protecting her as well. This complicated situation is why she left the family life when she became pregnant unexpectedly. This is under I’ll her father drags her back into it so that she can poison the Pakhan of the Bravta. While attempting this she discovered that he was the same man she had never been able to forget. He is the father of her son. She is kidnapped by him but he has no idea who she is. He lets her escape to figure out who she is and why she tried to poison him. This is how she discovered her son- his son. This is an action packed must read but the saga is not over yet it is just beginning.

I loved this book and I love how Ms. Grey writes a complex love story!!
This book begins with an event that changes the direction of Clara’s life. It gives her the incentive to become the head of a family where she was totally unaware of their legacy as a young girl growing up!
Then another event that completely changes the direction of her life again and a man who is the catalyst of all the changes.
This book hooked me from the beginning. The story of Clara and Leonid is complex and compelling. The spice level is high and hot! Also the memories of them together is enough that it keeps that meeting and results in the back of their minds despite the years of not seeing each other.
Both are strong-willed leaders, so conflict is inevitable after they meet again, in less-than-ideal circumstances!
Then the young one... Elijah meets Leonid, and a whole new aspect gets added to their story!
Cannot wait to read Book 2 Eclipse Heart!

4.5 stars!! This is the first book in the Kuznetsov Bratva, also known as the Ravens, duet. Leonoid has run his Bratva since his father passed away and leads with a strong hand. He meets Clara at a sex club, and they have an amazing night. What they dont know is who each other is as they wear masks. Fast forward nine weeks, and Clara learns that she is pregnant. She is also heir to the Caldwell Irish mob. It has lost a lot of its strength since her brother was killed by the Ravens. When Clara figures out who the father of her son is, she knows she has to protect him at all costs. Lots of subplots are also going on, and the book ends with a cliffhanger. Enjoy!

This brilliant author has done it again! Every book I read by her pulls me in more and more. Onyx Heart will have you on the edge the whole time. You think you know whats going to happen and then what actually happens will have you reeling. I love the Clara, the FMC, in this book. She’s a warrior and pure Alpha female. And the heat is scorching! Great start to an amazing series! I can’t wait for book two in this new series by Mya Grey. She brings the Mafia world alive in your hearts and souls with her deadly, yummy, dangerous men and the women who refuse to be anywhere but beside them

Clara Caldwell is the heir to the Caldwell empire. Before dying, Jake admitted that they are the Irish Mob in New Orleans. As Jake was dying, Clara vowed to kill all of the Ravens especially the man with the piercing blue eyes.
Leonid Kuznetsov is 33 years old and is the Pakhan of the Russian Mafia. His father died four years ago and Leonid took over.
Both Clara and Leonid end up in an underground sex dungeon called the Viper's Nest. Their eyes meet and both of them are attracted to the other. Clara ends up drugged and almost killed by a hitman. Grey writes romances that focus on every possible type of mafia, in every conceivable locale, with amazing frequency. Her protagonists always find their way to something akin to a Heart of Gold, with a high body count and merciless fight scenes on the way. And yes, true love inevitably follows the hot scenes that every couple engages in before they are captured by either pregnancy, forced marriage or devious relatives trying to prevent or encourage all of these situations. In this series, the female lead is exquisitely skilled and seeking revenge for the death of her beloved brother. The male lead, also highly trained and capable, has his hands full with relatives he didn’t know existed, and now seek to steal his legacy. The book offers secret identities, hidden connections, hot encounters and unforeseen consequences. And it’s only book 1. There’s more on the way, and it’s bound to be good. This book was hot,leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat and can't wait to turn the page! First you root for Clara, then you root for Leonid's side and even his underboss.You cry over the death of Clara's brother because she is left on her own,her father hates her so,he belittles her makes her feel uncomfortable not loved,trash.But she fights and claws her way,never forgets who killed her brother.But she has one short fall,Leonid who she has one night with and then ghosts him after not realizing that he may be her brother's killer,she does have a little reminder of that night that she trys to keep hidden,but five years later she gets her chance to kill her brother's killer,not realizing it is her dream guy from five years ago.Leonid has a visit from someone he didn't even know about,they really clash,is he the one that is trying to take his power,what he built his life around away or what! I love this story so much and can't wait for the next installment, which comes out very soon.Thanks Mya!

Mya wrote yet another amazing new book about the Kuznetsov Bratva.

This dark mafia romance starts with the death of Clara’s brother Jake and her sworn revenge against those who killed him. Her father has no respect for her and she is fighting to be seen and save the family business her father is drinking away. This leads her to a club to blow off steam where she has a one night stand with the very man who killed her brother even if she doesn’t realize it yet. She becomes pregnant and for 5 years she keeps reflecting on that night and her son’s father. He’s never gotten over her either but when her dad insists she must kill him, she fails and he takes her hostage. Escaping she rushes home to her son and moves him to a safe house. It not long before she is found and captured again. The book ends in a total cliffhanger leaving you to wonder what’s in store for these two in the future.

The chemistry between Bratva Pakhan Leonid Kuznetsov and Irish Mafia Princess Clara Maxwell is like kerosene and fire. Clara left a no real name one night stand with a parting gift though. I loved the transformation of Clara from the avenging Mafia Princess to devoted mother then to reluctant assassin. The conflict she felt when she realized her target was her baby daddy was emotional and totally due to her son. I can’t wait to dive into the second book to see what happens after that cliffhanger. I’m so glad the book is out now. You definitely need to read this series.

The connection ignites flames of desire leading to an intimate night. They do not know who the other is but nine weeks later Clara is pregnant and when she finds out who the father is she realizes that she must keep her child protected at all costs. Will they find their way back to each other. I can't wait for the next book to see how it all ends.

I loved this book! So full of sinister wants and desires! Leonid has no clue why Clara is after him! Clara is after the man who killed her brother Jake! The Raven! She saw him do it! He looked right at her and she can never forget his bright blue eyes! They haunt her. So when the opportunity comes up to get close to Leonid, the Raven, she takes it. They get very close, and she cannot understand why he has brown eyes! She tries to poison him! And then disappears, only to discover she’s pregnant with his child! She needs to hide him away from the monster who killed her brother! Will she succeed or will Leonid find her? Great read! Loved it!

Deceiving
I had a hard time getting into this book. It's slow reading.
Claire losing her brother which is all she had that cared about her. Her father felt she was the reason why her mother dead (died in child birth). When a rival gang killed her brother, she made a promise to herself she will seek revenge. Even as her brother told her not to. Two of her father's men tried to keep her out if the business because it was making her a hateful person. Met a man at a club and decided to be reckless, not knowing who he was;turns out he was the man she wanted revenge.
I did like the female character was overly arrogant for not being the head of any organization.

Clara is out for revenge after The Ravens kill her brother in front of her. Leonid is the head of the Ravens and is leading them into taking over the area when a past he didn't know about comes calling. When Clara and Leonid meet it is without names and identities and things are HOT. Five years later she attempts her revenge again but things don't go as planned. This is a fast past plot with a lot of twists and some steam and a major cliffhanger. This is a new to me author and I'm looking forward to the next in series.

Loved it. The chemistry between the two MCs was electric and instant although they couldn’t see each others faces. Clara is not your typical damsel in distress, after seeing her brother shot she becomes fierce, a kick ass fighter set on revenge for her brothers murder. Leo is a leader, rough around the edges and tough but when he meets the masked woman something in him changes. Plenty of twists and turns, mystery and scorching heat. Little Elijah is just adorable. Ends on a cliffhanger, can’t wait to read book 2.

Excellent read. I love this story. I could not put this book down. Leonid and Clara's journey is suspenseful, twists around every corner. Keeping you guessing. Their connection is undeniable. Mya is a wonderful author. I recommend her books. They are captivating, hot and grab your attention and don't let go till the end. I am looking forward to the next book. I have to know how this ends. I have a feeling things aren't what they seem to be in Clara's mind for who actually killed her brother. Must read

I could not put this book down. And have already pre-ordered the second in the series. There was excitement, angst, murder, torture, anger, fear, love and steamy sex. The story moved very well and the characters, for all the darkness of the men, and some of the women, every character has a softer side if you look for it. Strangely, the women often ended up being stronger then the men when it really counted which I loved. Cannot wait for #2 in the series to come out.

I was astounded reading this book I was hooked on the edge of my seat until the very end, the story was written well and the characters were amazing. This story was about Clara and Leonid, there was so many twist and turns, suspense, action, trauma, danger, secrets, betrayal, lies, deceit, vengeance, dark romance, intense romance, passion, pain, pleasure, and so much more emotions throughout.

Honestly once I started reading Leonid and Clara's story I couldn't stop it's beyond intriguing it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go.This brilliant minded author knows how to throw a curve ball to catch you off guard and leaves you waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can't wait to see what Leonid's next move will be and if Clara will be able to dodge the blows.

Onyx Heart is the first book in the Kuznetsov Bratva series. OMG…this book!! I was on the edge of my seat and could not put it down! Clara and Leonid’s story is amazing. It’s full of action, suspense, secrets, revenge, steam and twists I didn’t see coming. I cannot wait to read Eclipse Heart.
