Feast of Fools

Rate this book
The key to our fate is deception.

Gemini Foley.
The most cunning of our children.
A servant and devoted worshiper of trickery—and himself.
He revels in the illusion, always hungry for lies told in secrecy.
He will snatch the truth right out of any poor soul’s lungs.
It’s a gift we have given him, and he uses it magnificently.
But a new epoch is now upon us, and it is time for one more gift.
A surprise, for the lover of tricks.
She will appear as his sacrifice during the Feast of Fools.
And it will be his fate not to kill her.
Cunning just as we claim, will he sense something in her?
Sense a blinding truth he cannot yet put into words.
He will allow her to slip away …
Until time and fate are just right.
Before catching her once again.
This time, to keep her as his prize.

*Feast of Fools is a captor/captive dark romance with a hint of paranormal. It’s the second book in the Perverse City series and has a guaranteed HEA. While all books are standalones, the series must be read in order. It has mature situations and themes which may be considered triggers for some. Reader discretion is advised.*

I started this book amidst one of the worst reading slumps of my life, truly hoping it would fix me. AND GUESS WHAT IT DID.

Gemini and Veil’s dynamic is incredibly entertaining. And Gemini is so different from a lot of MMC’s in dark romance, which is what I love most about him. He wears flashy clothes, dyes his hair to match his outfits, and wears eyeliner. I LOVE HIM OK. He can burn my wardrobe anytime he wants. Now I loved A Dance Macabre, but I fear I loved this one even more?? Could it be because this one is dedicated to Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Perhaps.

I just adore this world Naomi has crafted. It’s dark, gory, and delightfully twisted, and I can’t get enough!

*huge thank you and forehead kisses to the author for an early arc!

***SPOILER BELOW***

I also want to note how well done the tricked pregnancy trope was handled. Naomi has mentioned this on their IG, so I knew going in what to expect. As per usual with Naomi, they did a remarkable job handling it. I particularly enjoyed that abortion was mentioned as an option for said pregnancy.

Naomi does it again with this deliciously dark book.
This is a kinky, smutty, slow burn with amped up tension.. A refeshing new twist on dark romance.
The non binary and bisexual representations were written wonderfully.

Gemini is a master manipulator, all wrapped in a pretty little facade. The God of trickery's faithful servant. The Jester, if you will. I love Gemini's obsession with Veil.

Veil is a petty thief/pickpocket from another city. She finds herself an unwilling participant in the Feast of Fools "celebration" where the God's favored servants fulfill their need for depravity. Little does she know she plays a larger roll in Pravitia than she could have ever imagined. Is she any better than them? Or is she destined to follow in their footsteps?

I haven't read a book by this author that I didn't love. I hope I can convince y'all to pick her books up because the hype would be well deserved!

Morally gray (more morally black if I'm honest) characters are some of my favorite kinds to read because they are just so devious and unapologetic. I really loved both Gemini and Veil but I have to say Gemini was delectable. He definitely gave me "Astarion" vibes from BG3 (iykyk) with his slutty outfits and aristocratic attitude. While I do not agree with his secret keeping, I will forgive him because he bows to his woman and will literally do anything for her and we love him for that.

The city of Pravitia and its gods were further explained and talked about though there is still much that the author could uncover and I'm hoping more for us to explore in future books.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not talk about the delicious spice in this book. Not only are there several delightful scenes, but they are written spectacularly and will leave you blushing and clutching your pearls all while wishing for more.

Definitely looking forward to more from this author.

Many thanks to Good Girls PR and the author for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you for the ARC!
I absolutely love the concept of servants of the Gods so I was really looking forward to this book. Sadly I kept waiting for something more to happen and it never did. The love Gemini has for Veil is top tier, but I felt no love back from Veil. I wanted to know more about her as well.

Miss Naomi delivers ANOTHER SMASH! Pravitia is such a DEMENTED place and I love it so much. This was heavy on the master/pet and collaring. And of course the standard murderous vibes. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Perverse City series 🖤

“I would have chased fate since I took my first breath if I knew it was you I was chasing.”

I had so much fun returning to Pravitia for Gemini and Veil’s story. Naomi has created a world full of unhinged characters that are so interesting to follow.

Gemini is one of my favorite kind of MMCs, a totally unbothered psycho who is a complete golden retriever for his girl. Did he meet her during a ritual where he was meant to hunt her down and kill her? Yep. Does he proceed to kidnap her and treat her like a doll he can dress up and lead around by a leash? He sure does. And yet he has no doubt she will fall in love with him anyway, and I just love his confidence. Oh and the fact that he’s not afraid to grovel when he needs to.

Our FMC Veil is a thief who finds she has no choice but to learn to navigate the luxurious world of the Praviatia heirs. Her interactions and developing friendships with the rest of the heirs were some of my favorite parts of the book. As are the other heirs’ cameos, I love all these characters so much already.

Naomi’s writing and her spice is something that I’ve been awed by since day one, and it only gets better with each book. If you haven’t read her books you’re missing out.

I’m seriously obsessed with this world she’s created and I can’t wait for more. My dark romance lovers definitely need to read this series!

*Keep in mind this is book two in a series, and while each book follows a different couple, they are not meant to be read as standalones.*

Don’t forget this is dark romance following completely unhinged morally black characters who kill without remorse so if you’re going to jump in, make sure you know that.

“Cease your pointless babbling, you’re boring me.”

Gemini MF Foley has my heart. He’s so fanciful and full of whimsy and secrets. As one of the 6 heirs of Pravitia, he serves the god of trickery. And he was quite the lil trickster.
He first lays eyes on our FMC Veil Vulturine at the Feast of Fools, where the 6 heirs get to play a brutal lil game of cat and mouse in a maze. But he lets her go.
Veil lives a very modest life with roommates, thieving to get by while the heirs live in luxury. Little does she know she resides in Foley territory, and one day he decides to capture Veil and keep her as his own.
The way Gemini dotes on her and treats her like his little doll was equally as sweet and hilarious to me. He just wanted a lil pet to dress up and feed haha.
I adored Gemini from the very start, and Veil really grew on me. Her character development was absolutely delicious.
I loved the underlying circus theme and anytime we would experience any sort of performance, I thought that was so fun! Tightrope foreplay anyone?…
As per usual, Naomi’s writing is breathtaking. Especially in this universe. The prose are so lyrical and poetic. I love how Gemini speaks, he’s so incredibly captivating.
I loved the peeks of Mercy and Wolfgang, as I fell head over heels for them in ADM. I’m excited for more books in this series as all the characters are so colourful already!
I do feel like I kept waiting for something really big and dramatic to happen in the plot, which is why I feel I couldn’t rate it 5 stars.
But I will be a Naomi fan until the day I die, their books are some of my absolute favourites.

Let’s not forget the freaking spice. I was sweating. SWEATING I SAY.

Highly recommend!

I really want to love this series but there’s so much going on that sometimes it’s hard to keep up. I will say that I did like this one more than the first.

The beginning had me a little “what’s happening?” But as it went on it started to get easier to follow. Gemini is crazy obsessive and unapologetically so, he even manages to become more infatuated with her over time. I loved finding out Veils story and seeing her grow into something more as the story progressed. The carnival is quite an interesting place and I’m curious to see what other oddities and sinful seductions come out of it. As far as narration goes, I liked the way the voices were done more in this book than in the first one. There were a couple of times where Gemini was speaking tho that sounded like Mr Gold from Happily Ever after and then that’s all I could hear which made it hard to take him seriously but that was my only gripe about the narration. I actually think that their tones matched the mood of the story in this one much better than the first.

"Her moans are poetry, written in a tongue only I understand, hungry, cryptic words only my soul can decipher. And I starve for more."

Naomi Loud did it again. I rly loved this story of Veil and Gemini. Gem is fucking crazy but you can't help but to root for the villain. Stockholm syndrome but make it hot. (lol) but then... until eventually we see Veil step into this role that is her birth right. We get to see Veil eventually stand up for herself and watch her growth thru the trickery and betrayals of someone she can't help but to fall for. Gem's yearning is top tier. In his own way, he loves her and it's dark, obsessive, toxic...and captivating. The electricity from these characters is addicting.

“Silly rabbit. I will always catch you.”

This was even CRAZIER than the first. And I still devoured the whole thing. Does that make me crazy? probably.

So this was Geminis book with our new FMC Veil. What a wild ride it was from start to finish. The stockholm syndrome was strong with this one and I have not read any kidnapping dark romances in a hot minute…mum if you’re reading this I’m sorry.

Honestly, Gemini was OBSESSED. A lot psychotic as well but as expected from the heirs.

Anyway, new things are happening in Pravitia. Big changes for the heirs. I really liked how the author was able to manage the timeline of this book and the last book so that they interconnected seamlessly.

Okay, one thing. I did feel a certain way about the book towards the end. I can’t say specifically why because of spoilers but I was a bit on the fence about it.
But hey, I ate this book up. It was crazy. The heirs are insane and murderous as always. Apparently I needed a little bit of some dark romances to get me out of my slump.

Anyway, I think this series has been super fun, addictive, and easy to read.
So if you’re a dark romance reader, definitely try these ones out!

It feels so nice to be back in the city of Pravitia.

Feast of Fools is an interconnected standalone, but I’d say reading book one, A Dance Macabre will give you a much better understanding of the world, the Gods and the heirs of Pravitia.

FoF follows Gemini, the servant to the God of Trickery and Veil, a Pravitia City resident. The book opens with Gemini hunting his sacrifice -Veil- in a sick game during the ‘Feast of Fools’. He lets her go, but knows when the time comes, he will catch her for keeps.

Gemini is chaotic, fun-loving, absolutely unhinged but so very authentic. Veil is a fighter who is grounded, determined and can make a man BEG. Together they are so very captivating.

I’m blown away by Naomi’s mind. Her writing is a work of art. It’s a refreshing feeling to read something new and different and I cannot wait to get the others books in the Perverse City series (specifically Tinny’s 😈).

Also time to re-live my teen years and watch BTVS again!

3.5 rounded up!

there are things i loved and things i absolutely hated 🫠

let’s start with the love.

i honestly…just love Naomi’s writing. the story is interesting, the world building is great and i am so interested in this series.
I also LOOOOVE Veil Vulturine’s name. it’s the best name ever and so fun to say 😂

HOWEVER, this felt like a filler book and tbh i didn’t mind it because i needed low angst, but there wasn’t a lot going on other than Gemini trying to breed Veil which also isn’t such a bad thing😂 I just wish there was MORE. everything literally happened within like four months!

everything happened so fast that i wish there was at least SOME push back from Veil. once she learned her secret, she basically forgot who she was. like what about her three best friends? after she is kidnapped we only hear about one and they go from being worried about her (because she was KIDNAPPED) and then they disappear after an incident. the other two friends aren’t even mentioned. It made me a little disappointed in Veil’s character to just drop her friends like that.

now the part i hated…. i have to take with a grain of salt because it’s a personal preference and i know this wont be for everyone but the other people blow jobs……… its happened in both books now and the first book, okay i get it. they had the divine law they couldn’t bone each other so whatever. but this one REALLY pissed me off. Gemini brought Veil to a bacchanal and cuffed her to a chair to watch him get blown by an ow while the ow was being fucked by a guy who was also being fucked by a guy….for what? to see if she could handle the excess of being servants of the gods? in my opinion it wasn’t necessary. nothing was gained from it except she got hot and jealous even though she hated him.
at that point, Gemini didn’t feel anything for Veil besides ownership and curiosity but i hated it 😂 and tbh i was so annoyed by him until he started with the “my wife” and “my beloved” and all his sweet words and then i pretended that chapter didn’t exist 🫣🫣🫣🫣

the last half of the book was my favorite though. I loved Veil driving Gemini crazy and the collar 🫦🫦🫦🫦

i did get this as an arc and i hope the couple i have in my head will be next 😭😭😭

What did I just read?! 😆 And why can’t I get enough of it?

What to expect:
Dark Romance
Magical realism
Captor/captive
Ott/possessive
Morally black
Spicyyy

Why is the character ARC for this female main character so good?! This author took some of the my favorite tropes (i can’t tell you it’s a secret 🤫 ) and made them dark. It’s a fast-paced read with magical realism and edginess.

In the kingdom of pravitia, there are 6 heirs. These heirs serve the gods but think seven deadly sins style. Veil is on the streets struggling to survive when she’s adult napped by Gemini, the heir to foley house, serving the hod of trickery.

And Gemini takes the ott, possessive hero to quite honestly, a lovable place. He’s got golden retriever energy and he’s absolutely feral for her. And I know how that sounds but hear me out, he dotes on her.

Veil coming into her own was so epic. I love what a baddie she turned into at the end. Holding her own with the morally depraved just like the rest of them 😂

I am absolutely loving this series and can’t wait to keep reading it!

Dark romance

Captor x Captive
Forced proximity
Secret identity
GROVELING

Once again Naomi has written a masterpiece. What an honor it is to see this book transform from the first version in the alpha reading stage to the final version.

Gemini, servant to the god of trickery, finds himself in an interesting position when he feels motivated to let his sacrifice for the Feast of Fools escape. Veil thinks she can fly under his radar after that, but jokes on her, he was always meant to capture her. That’s how fate works.

Can I start by saying Naomi’s writing and storytelling is breathtaking?! It has been since her first book and it’s only getting better. Every time I’m transported to her fictional worlds, I’m seeing it in my mind, I’m hearing the words and I’m living the story. Her characters find their way into my heart every time. Gemini, my love. He has captured my heart by being completely unhinged and authentic. He really does what he wants, but the best part is when he has to eat his slice of humble pie. But until then I couldn’t even be mad at him. The flair with which he goes through life is unmatched. Veil is a character I see myself in. She has amazing character development and I admire the way she handles all the changes in her life. She finds her voice and that is fucking beautiful. My fellow Pisces girlie, I love her. The version of her that was just surviving AND the version of her that is a force to be reckoned with. The spice was SO hot as well. For the breeding kink girlies, this one won’t disappoint. I loved seeing all the side characters again and I can’t wait for their books!

Thank you to Good Girls PR for the ARC! I don’t think this series is for me.. I just felt like the main characters didn’t connect. I felt the same way in the first book. The writing is great, the characters are well developed so I don’t think less than three stars is okay but the romance feels empty! Where are the emotions and the love and the depth. I will have to try some of Loud’s other books later on and see if the genre is what is holding back that oomph I wanted.

I felt like every time we were drifting towards them getting to know one another we moved into spice WHICH IS FINE FOR SOME… but I needed a little more from them. The insta-love, or obsession, in this case, did not hit for me. I felt like we never got to see how they felt for one another 💔

ALC REREAD- absolutely devoured and left no crumbs

4.5⭐️

There is just something about this world that draws you in and keeps you guessing. While being dark and mysterious its also so light and frivolous and I just can’t get enough of these characters.

Being the servant to the god of trickery means many things for Gemini Foley- and being boring is not one of them. After a selection gone wrong in which he realizes there is more to his sacrifice than he originally anticipated, he’s sure he will find her again. Once he does, he’s never letting her go. Whether she likes it or not. Veil Vulturine felt called to come to Pratavia and once she’s fallen into the clutches of Gemini her life will never be the same. Petty theft becomes so much deeper and everything she thought she knew is called into question.

These two were oil and water, moth to a flame and delusional romance in all of the best ways. I love a forced proximity where the FMC is truly ✨forced✨ by the MMC. Add in some magical realism, dystopian society, schmvrder, 17 different nicknames, and one of the most hilarious yet unhinged characters I’ve ever known and loved and you’ll get this story. Gemini had me kicking my feet and giggling while also gasping in indignation. I loved seeing Veil come into her own and hold her ground. And that leash scene? AND THAT OTHER LEASH SCENE?! 😮‍💨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

My first read of 2025 starting out with an absolute banger and I CANNOT WAITTTTT for the rest of these deranged characters to get their unhinged HEA 🖤

HELLO I JUST DEVOURED THIS

I will always be a Naomi Loud fan. No matter what. This book is so freaking fun. Gemini is like if Spike from “BTVS” met Draco Malfoy from Bloody, Slutty, and Pathetic & he is truly so baby girl — I loved him so much. Chaos to his core.

And my queen Veil ?! Such an baddie, a queen.

Love being back in this world (still one of my favorite worlds ever & love seeing it from a new perspective) & love getting sucked into another Naomi Loud book.

This one is hard for me to write because I don't think it is fair to judge a book based on my reading slump/mood, but here we are. I was enjoying this book while I was reading it, but getting myself to pick it up was difficult. I felt like I was teetering on the edge of a reading slump and my brain was hyper fixated on the upcoming release of Onyx Storm.

I found these characters intriguing and I've been a huge fan of Naomi's beautiful writing prose since day one.

The MMC is utterly insane and I swear the *spoon* (IYKYK) is the most unhinged thing Naomi has written! That scene had me crawling out of my skin while also cheering his crazy @ss on lol.

I wanted a bit more connection earlier on from the MCs and I feel that lack of connection is part of the reason I wasn't picking it up. Yes, I realize this man was beyond obsessed with this woman and she was ultimately going to fall prey to stockholm syndrome, but I wasn't feeling the undeniable pull between them -at least from her end- quite like I hoped.

The FMC showed moments of strength, and while the MMC was intentionally trying to break her down, there was far too often (particularly in the first half) she felt a little doormatish. That said, I thought the plot was really going to pick up when we found out more about who she is, but things remained status-quo for longer than I was anticipating. I think overall, the pacing was a little slower than I would have preferred.

At the end of book one, I was left with some questions about the world Naomi has built here, and I was happy to see several of those questions answered in the beginning of this book!

This series is so unique, and I love the concept, so I'm really looking forward to reading more from this world. I just know I will need to ensure I'm in the right headspace.

Thank you so much to Naomi Loud for the advanced copy.

Eeeekkk I’ve been waiting for the second installment of the Perverse City series and Naomi did NOT disappoint me!

I’m infatuated with this plot and world, if only half of the laws and rules that applied to this fictional world applied to us in real life. I loved how this entire world of gods facilitates!

Secondly, I love Gemini Foley. He’s such a fool but also he’s hilarious. I love that he just generally doesn’t care about anyone or anything. He will wholeheartedly back his decisions tenfold! And his damn MOUTH! He can dirty talk….PERIOD!

Veil Vulturine! I love her spice and her will to get what she wants.

Her determination is very inspiring and her will to seek what she deserves shows in FOF!

The spice was EVERYTHING in this. The pining was there but the groveling was E X C E P T I O N A L! Again, another reason why I love MMC who simply don’t care about others and only care about their woman!

♡Feast Of Fools picks up where Dance Macabre left off & it did not disappoint! I love a sassy stubborn fmc & a morally black obsessed mmc to match & Naomi did just that with this book. Veil & Gemini were the perfect messed-up pair & they each loved in their own messed-up way.

The duet narration for this book was amazing! Avery & Nick both did a phenomenal job at bringing Veil & Gemini to life! Their voices flowed well together & the chemistry was top-tier.

I can't wait to see what Naomi has up her sleeve next for this universe!♡

I love the creativity of this world and the morally-black character personalities. The need to dive into the baser instincts instead of suppressing dark desires is refreshing. Very interested in who the next book is about. I feel it could go either way with Aleksandr and Belladonna or Constantine 👀

Let’s take a high level trip down memory lane to set the scene.

After A Dance Macabre, I was counting down the days until I could dive into the city of Pravitia again. I didn’t think I would ever get enough. I needed to know everything about Gemini ASAP.

Fast forward a bit and I find out that Gemini is going to Spike coded. Naturally, I start foaming at the mouth.

Fast forward AGAIN && Naomi releases character art. By this point, I know I’m done for and in love with yet another set of fictional characters.

But THENNNN. THENNNNN Naomi blesses their pätrèon with a sneak peak of a certain sketch and the scream that I scrumpt were heard across the lands.

Okay.. you following me so far? (Wow, I just love you for coming on this journey with me.)

Ok okok.. All that rambling to make sure you know that my expectations were set VERY high for this book. And to no one’s shock or surprise, Naomi delivered. I read this book front to back without stopping for air.

Gemini and Veil are so dang captivating. I ate up every detail about them. I’m such a sucker for all things Gemini. Don’t get me wrong, he is so fully unhinged, but I still found myself swooning for him every step of the way. Despite being the servant of trickery, he was always so genuine to his true self.

Veil on the other hand had to work so hard to figure out who her true self was. I adored watching her come into and embrace her power and give into her desires. Their chemistry was a journey filled with hot as sin tension and y’all already KNOW that Naomi throws down in the spice department.

Everything about this book delivered.

Honestly, I know I may sound like a broken record when I say this but, Naomi’s writing is like poetry. It sucks you in to the world she’s created with just the words she’s written. And this book is no different.

Gemini might be my new favourite bad boy, but am I surprised? No. His storyline made me laugh, swoon and cringe. He’s insane, ruthless but that’s what makes him so loveable.

Veil? Woof. She’s everything you want in an FMC. She’s resilient and stubborn and an overall badass. Her and Gemini’s back and forth in FOF is everything you could want and more.

If you like angsty lovestruck fools, this one’s for you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5

“You’re insufferable, you know?”
“Trust me, Veil Vulturine
—I’m an acquired taste.” - Gemini

After seeing glimpses of Gemini's (MMC) character from the previous book, A Dance Macabre, and the sneak peek of Feast of Fools, I was eagerly and somewhat patiently waiting to read this book!

“Don’t fret, my beloved; you’re the only conquest I crave.” - Gemini

As romance readers, we all love and want our MMCs to be tall, dark and handsome–preferring black and brunette hair coloured over blonde heroes. However, this book will change your mind! With his mismatched eyes (heterochromia) and suave and vibrant hair colours, Gemini will give any other morally black or grey hero a run for their money.

"He’s breathtaking. Undeniably beautiful. Still a snake. But I’ve been ensnared. Hypnotized."
- Veil

I'm a fan of Naomi's writing—it is beautiful, captivating and lyrical. Even with a least favourite trope, Naomi flawlessly executed it. I know I am in the minority, but I love the pregnancy trope (or in this case, tricked pregnancy). When I saw Naomi's trope reveal post on her social media page, I couldn't contain my excitement!

"No one should ever trust what’s right in front of them—especially if it’s me." - Gemini

Fate, game(s) of deception, love and a bit of betrayal, I loved the relationship dynamics between Gemini and our FMC, Veil. Gemini is exceptional in the art of trickery—always a few steps ahead, Gemini carefully crafted his plan, setting all of the pieces in their place. Hence, Veil was trying to play catch up and figure out his motives and what he was hiding. An obsessed captor: Gemini pampered Veil—he took care of her needs (he treated her like a "doll", more specifically, his doll). And with each new disagreement and challenge, Veil became even more alluring to Gemini.

"The odd mixture of lingering fear and adrenaline at being this close to Gemini Foley is as intoxicating as the promise of ever-lasting life." - Veil

I was surprised when Veil's lineage was revealed! And I enjoyed witnessing Veil's transformation: embracing her power/gift and finding that not-so-lost connection. Morphing into the person she was destined to be and Gemini's equal, Veil definitely put her foot down in the last few chapters. It was amazing to see the sudden power shift: Gemini grovelling and trying to regain her trust.

“Like your trophy?” Gemini is quick to answer, his gaze darkening. “Like my wife.” - Gemini

Dashing and polite, Gemini Foley may seem to have a jovial and even benevolent and innocuous nature, but don't let that fool you. What lies beneath the mischievous jester is a cunning mastermind of manipulation and a dangerous predator. A servant to the god of trickery, Gemini thrives in chaos, collects secrets and searches for any loose threads of vulnerabilities. Awaiting the perfect time to pounce, Gemini has his sight set on his prey: Veil Vulturine.

In a new city, hiding in plain sight and trying to survive, Veil barely escaped Gemini's clutches. But her days of freedom are over; Gemini has found her, and he isn't going to let her go again.

Sucks that I was so excited for Gemini’s story only for it to be a huge disappointment

I really don't know how Naomi does it. Her storytelling is fantastic, and her world building blows me away.
It's no secret that A Dance Macbre was one of my favourite reads last year, and I absolutely couldn't wait to get my greedy little mits on Geminis story.
Let me tell you this was wonderful and so beautifully written. We get more insight into the city of Pravitia and it's God's, whilst so much of it still remains a mystery.
I love all the characters in this world and I just know that this series will continue getting better and better.
