Lila Wright never expected to flee her dress fitting covered in a cloud of lace—let alone land in a first-class seat next to the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen. With mascara-streaked cheeks, a shattered heart, and no plan beyond “anywhere but here,” she spills her secrets to the stranger with the sharp jawline and stormy eyes. She expects a little sympathy. She doesn’t expect a two-week, all-expenses-paid escape on his dime.
Dean Harrington isn’t just any passenger. He’s a man with a heart locked up tighter than his family’s luxury yacht empire. The reclusive billionaire isn’t in the mood for small talk—until the runaway bride beside him turns out to be as intriguing as she is unfiltered. She’s beautiful, chaotic, and clearly a flight risk. But somehow, she puts him at ease. That is, until they land—and he discovers he’s now the full-time guardian of his niece and nephew.
By a twist of fate, Lila’s no longer just a fleeting encounter—she’s the nanny he hires from a small-town agency. And he’s her brooding, infuriatingly hot boss.
Forced under one roof in his bayside home, a temporary arrangement soon spirals into something far more complicated. Between sizzling tension and curious kids who want their uncle to be happy, Lila and Dean are on a collision course with feelings neither saw coming.
But sometimes love shows up uninvited—35,000 feet in the air.
This steamy small-town romance delivers billionaire angst, nanny sweetness, and a slow-burn love story full of heat, heart, and unexpected happily-ever-afters.

What a beautiful love story! I wasn’t sure where it was going on the first few chapters. I thought we were going to have a one night stand situation but boy was I wrong. Dean was so sweet to Lila even though she was a complete stranger. Trying to build her confidence back up after having it torn down.
“I’m as real and as flawed as any man, sweetheart. But I thought I’d made it pretty clear by now that I’m completely captivated by you, Lila. From the moment I saw you running through that airport, I haven’t been able to get you out of my head.” He leans closer, and I feel it in my chest, the way his words wrap around me like a comforting embrace.

Renee Harless has delivered an utterly beautiful, heartwarming, and emotionally moving slow-burn romance with At First Flight, the captivating first book in her brand-new Coral Bell Cove Romance series. This one had my heart from the very first page and never let go.
Set in the cozy charm of a small town, this emotional Single Parent/Nanny romance is filled with second chances, unexpected connections, and healing. When billionaire Dean crosses paths with a woman in a wedding dress at an airport, he never imagines she’ll soon become a central part of his world. Lilia—his mysterious “ghost girl”—is dealing with the aftermath of betrayal and heartbreak, trying to rediscover who she is after walking away from a life she thought she wanted.
Dean’s world is thrown off course when tragedy strikes, and he becomes guardian to his five-year-old nephew and three-year-old niece. Relocating to Coral Bell Cove for a fresh start, he hires a nanny… only to discover it’s Lilia.
Renee Harless masterfully weaves together themes of loss, healing, and love, crafting a slow-burn romance that simmers with tension and emotional depth. Watching Dean—strong, composed, and powerful—soften into a loving caregiver and fall hard for Lilia was everything. His vulnerability and fierce love for the children stole my heart completely. And Lilia? Her quiet strength, intelligence, and the way she slowly lets herself hope again had me rooting for her every step of the way.
From stolen glances to late-night conversations and gentle touches, the buildup between Dean and Lilia is so well done—and when the passion finally ignites, it’s nothing short of perfect.
At First Flight is a story of unexpected love, emotional growth, and finding home in the most surprising of places. I can’t wait to see what Renee Harless brings next in Coral Bell Cove.
Dean is a man obsessed. He fell first and fell hard for Lila. Billionaire? Nanny/Parent? Yes please!
He first sees her running through the airport in her wedding dress, and then ends up sitting next to her on their flight. A family emergency comes up and he has to go back to the states. She receives letters from him daily on her trip that help her heal after learning her fiancé was unfaithful. When she comes home from her trip she ends up being the live in nanny for his niece and nephew. Their mom passed away and Dean took custody of them. It was fun to watch not only dean and Lila fall in love with each other but also the kids!
Overall this was such a fun read and I would definitely recommend 🤍
Gosh this was a little much… it was way too long, the intensity between the characters from the first sight was unbelievable. Not only that but the characters’ actions and behaviours kept yo-yoing every two pages. You had the same drama and feelings every other chapter and there was no real growth to the characters. I think some important parts that would have added more depth to the plot were left out or resolved off page, which didn’t make any sense to me. The individual conflicts they had were also resolved in a span of two pages?! I really wanted to enjoy it but unfortunately the plot needed a lot more development and the book needed to be shorter to make the story worthwhile.
All opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for the arc.
Thank you Renee Harless for giving me the opportunity to read your beautiful story. In all honesty, I LOVED this book. I devoured every part of this story. The dedication was the first piece that hooked me!
At First Fight is the first book in the Coral Bell Cove series. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. It starts off with Lila Wright who runs out of her wedding dress fitting and she ends up on an airplane. She sits right next to Dean Harrington, the most gorgeous billionaire, who just so happens to be on the same flight. Once they arrive in Edinburgh, Dean is suddenly called back home and isn’t able to spend anymore time with Lila. Dean was able to set her up comfortably and make sure she had everything she needed. From this moment, I knew he was a softy and truly cared for her.
Once Lila returns back to her hometown, Coral Bell Cove. She is trying to figure out her next steps. She doesn’t have a job, she needs to find away to support herself financially. Her mom offers her a Nanny position to help her get her feet off the ground. To her complete surprise, she ends up being the Nanny for two siblings who have a direct correlation to Dean. Yes, Dean would be her employer. Lila really doesn’t know what to do but once she meets Evelyn and Oliver, she immediately takes Dean up on the job offer. The fond family trope in this story captured my heart. This is where their love story begins and Lila can have everything she’s ever wanted. Their relationship develops very naturally and once you dive in, you won’t want to book this book down. I will absolutely be reading the second book in this series!
Now a moment for the tropes, this book had it all! Small town romance Found family Billionaire Single parent/nanny Runaway bride
Wow where do I begin? Renee Harless brings us a beautifully emotional romance book following a billionaire single dad and nanny that feels grounded and fresh.
Dean Harrington is a billionaire playboy and successful businessman, heir to his families yacht business he is travelling to Scotland for work when he spots runaway bride Lila in the airport.
Lila Wright is a brilliant scientist who is about to marry the man of her dreams until her world comes crashing down. At her dress fitting she receives a text revealing that her soon to be husband is actually already married. Lila does the only thing she can think of in this scenario and runs, she runs to the airport where a chance encounter with Dean leaves the billionaire enthralled with her.
After 2 weeks recovering from her run away bride moment Lila returns to her small hometown agreeing to take a job on as a nanny for her mother’s small business. Little does she know this nannying job is for the man she met on the plane.
This book is very insta lovey but I think that’s part of its charm. Despite the instant connection and feelings for one another I’d say the actual romance between the two main characters is more slow burn.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and how action packed the plot was outside of the romance plot lines. I think the only thing was I sometimes struggled to follow all of these subplots but they did add a lot to the story!
This was an emotional roller coaster I didn’t want to get off!! This is my first Renee Harless book but it won’t be my last! I loved every minute of this book! I’m literally obsessed with everything about it!
Lila is such a beautiful FMC, I was obsessed with our runaway bride from the start. I love how she grew throughout the book, she went through it 😭 But what I loved most is how intelligent she was!! The way she was with the kids had my heart feeling so full!!
Dean is THE man! I loved how despite being a billionaire, he had such a beautiful heart 🥹 he was truly a man obsessed from that first flight and the way he was with the kids! Big swoon for sure! His letters were the sweetest thing in the world, I’m obsessed with him.
I was immediately hooked by the book from the start, I literally couldn’t put it down!! I loved both characters storylines and being able to understand their own issues. They had a connection from the start and seeing it blossom was everything and more 🥹 I loved how they both put the kids first - they were ADORABLE! I literally was giggling, kicking my feet at these two because I loved it that much! The tropes were some of my favourite tropes and they were done PERFECTLY! The vibes of this book were exactly what I needed. The romance, the emotion, the suspense! I can’t wait for the next book, I need it immediately!!!!
Thank you so much Renee for this arc! I adored it so much!
At First Flight kicks off Renee Harless’s Coral Bell Cove series with the perfect mix of heart, heat, and small-town charm. This story brings together two people who weren’t looking for love—but definitely found it anyway. Lila is chaotic, honest, and trying to figure out her next move after walking away from a life that didn’t feel like hers. Dean is closed-off, responsible, and suddenly guardian to his niece and nephew. When Lila ends up being hired as their nanny (thanks to a little twist of fate), their spark from the plane ride turns into something deeper. I loved how natural their relationship felt. Dean isn’t the typical “you’re my employee so I must stay away” hero. He respects Lila, supports her, and isn’t afraid to admit when he wants more. And Lila—despite being a bit of a mess when we meet her—grows into someone who finds strength in her choices, especially when it comes to showing up for Dean and the kids. If you’re a fan of the guardian, the nanny, and a true slow burn (70%), this one checks all the boxes. The kids were sweet without being too perfect, the family moments felt real, and the emotional moments hit in just the right way.

This might be one of the best single dad/nanny romances I have read in the longest time. It was fun, mysterious, romantic like a good romance should be and had emotional depth too. It’s my first book by Renee Harless but it’s certainly not my last, I’ll tell you that much.
What a beautiful love story truly. I wasn’t completely sure what I was going into while reading the first couple of chapters, I first thought it was a one night stand romance, but boy I was really wrong about that. OnceI found my way into the book properly I was hooked. I love when a romance starts at the airport and the couple has a meet cute on a flight.
The whole runaway bride thing and Dean seeing her running through the airport like a ghost intrigued me and the insta love coming from Dean’s side was actually done so well and it didn’t feel forced or pushy. I loved how Lila thought Dean was joking with her with the when she proposed marriage but you know you know.
Once we got to the small town part of the book I was hooked even more. I couldn’t stop swooning over Dean and all his acts of service. He’s just such a dreamboat and if Lila didn’t take him, I would have. Dean is thrown into the whole parent thing when his sister dies and he’s the guardian of his young niece and nephew. Lila’s instant connection with both of the kids was so sweet and it made Dean even more in love with her. I get it, they were a match made in small town romance heaven!
Thank you Renee for the ARC!
🌸 What to expect: — single dad/nanny — small town — plane meet cute —runaway bride — billionaire — he falls first and hard — grumpy vs. sunshine — found family — slow burn — single guardian — forced proximity
At First Flight was such an amazing book about self discovery, changed plans, and the love of a lifetime.
I absolutely loved Dean and Lila's meet cute! These two both go through so much in this book. Dean goes from being a billionaire bachelor with only himself to think about, to the sole guardian to his young niece and nephew. His whole world is turned upside down with just a phone call. Watching him step up and become Oliver and Evelyn's dad was so beautiful. This man was so patient and kind. Lila runs away from what would have been a very dangerous wedding and starts over. While trying to find herself again, she falls in love with Dean and his kids. I loved watching her discover that she didn't have to pick between love and her career dreams.
Dean was so patient and supportive and loving with Lila. He truly just wanted her to be happy, even if it meant losing her. When Lila finally figured out that she can have it all? Butterflies! These two were so special and I loved everything about their story!
This was such a good start to a brand new series!! I just adore the guardian trope 🥹 It’s so sweet watching everyone create a bond. I also loved how Renee wrote the nanny trope into this one! It was so refreshing and such a fun take having Dean admit he’s interested and wants to flirt with her but he won’t do anything more unless she wants it. There was no “I can’t have her because she’s my nanny” which was a really fun element to the story! I found this one to be so incredibly sweet and I loved how they encouraged and supported one another. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!
Also I loved that we got to see Talon and Rory! It’s so fun when authors create one big world!
My gosh, this was such a beautiful story! This is my first read from Renee, and I will definitely be reading more of her! This is actually my first “runaway bride” story I have ever read, and I think there should be way more!! This book is filled with emotion, found family, and second chances at happiness. It’s crazy how every little choice made can alter your entire future, and Lila and Dean are the perfect example of that. When she meets him on a plane, still in her wedding dress, it alters life plans for the two of them. This book hooked me from the very beginning, keeping me engaged and so connected to the characters! I LOVE that this is the start of a series that I feel will be a huge hit! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lila meets Dean on the plane and after hitting it off, they don't expect to see each other again. Dean has just gained guardianship of his niece and nephew and after moving to Coral Bell Cove, he hires the services of a nanny from a local company only to have Lila turn up to work for him.
This single billionaire, nanny, found family story all set in a sweet small town was beautiful. Dean was the perfect gentleman, telling Lila what he wanted but having the patience to wait for her to be ready to join him. The two kiddos were the cutest and the way they adjusted to their new family so quickly was commendable. I do wish there was more talk about their mother and Dean's sister so we got to know more of her back story however the storyline with Dean's father was well fleshed out and I couldn't help but want him to lose everything.
If you're after a charming romance that you'll devour with a smile, be sure to pick this one up.
Lila made an escape from her future life two weeks before her wedding. Marriage to that man would have been bad. She meets Dean on her flight to Scotland, he is the perfect gentleman. After paying for her stay she returns to her home town and agrees to a nanny job her mother convinced her to take. Only its for Dean and his niece and nephew. The more time she spends with them, she falls for them all but she wants the life she had and feels torn.
Dean is so literally perfect. Patient and giving, funny and protective and he will wait for Lila as long as it takes.
I loved reading at first flight. it was a beautiful story and I loved these to kiddos as well.
Thank you so much @renee_harless for allowing my the pleasure of reading your new release!
You’ll love this book if you love

When Lila decides to runaway from her current life and catch a flight to Scotland, in her wedding dress, the last thing she expected was to run into the number one ranked bachelor in the magazines.
I ate this book up! Dean knew Lila better than she knew herself right from the start. 🤍 Very well written! Such a heartwarming story! This is book 1 in the Coral Bell Cove series!
4⭐️ BE SURE TO GRAB IT TODAY! Happy release day @renee_harless !
This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it.
Dean and Lila are such a cute couple. Dean is a billionaire bachelor who is a total cinnamon roll when it comes to Lila. Lila is a young scientist who just fled (literally) a terrible relationship. These two come together in the most unique way, and I absolutely adored them.
The storyline flows effortlessly, and all the characters are great. Oliver snd Evelyn were just the sweetest. ❤️
*I want to thank TAA for the opportunity to read an ARC. All opinions are my own.*
From the first time he saw her Dean couldn’t get Lila out of his head and fate brought them together in best but most cruel way.
When they cross paths again so much has changed but not the passion that grew between them. As both navigate their new normals one thing remains; how much they want each other! Dean will stop at nothing to show Lila how love should be.
I absolutely loved this book and the intro to a new small town and it’s amazing inhabitants. This is shaping to be a beautiful series and I am dying to know whose next!?
there are things i read that have happened in the little bit that made no sense to me whatsoever
ok first of all, the book starts with the mmc in a bar at the airport and then he see’s the fmc for like one sec. BUT keep in mind, he didn’t even fully see her face and started talking about how he wants to get to know her and stuff 🤨
it probably hasn’t been more than like 10 minutes where another women sits across him and he then gestures to the bathrooms 😐 when we get to the scene of them in the bathroom, they get kissing and all but then he literally stops before anything else happens because he starts thinking about the fmc. LIKE Y’ALL HAVE NOT EVEN TALKED OR ANYTHING. SHE HASN’T EVEN SEEN YOUR FACE 😭😭
secondly, this is labeled as a slow burn. it can’t be an insta-love and a slow burn at the same time me personally. like when they realize they are seated next to each other on the plane they talk and all but then you start reading like “oh he makes me feel things”, “i feel steady” within the same chapter or the next 😐😑😐
was this book just not for me? probably but i just had to give my opinion on why this just didn’t work for me
ARC Review From the moment I read the summary, I knew this book was going to be right up my alley. I’m a sucker for a good Single Dad x Nanny trope, and this one delivered in the best way. The single dad element was introduced with a fresh twist that got my attention. The story was well-written, with a strong and engaging plot that kept me hooked. I especially loved how the main characters met it was love at first sight for the MMC Dean. Dean Harrington is the definition of a walking green flag. He’s everything you could want, he’s thoughtful, respectful, intentional, and just completely swoon worthy. His patience, kindness, and certainty in what he wanted makes him unforgettable. Lila the FMC was just as amazing. She’s been through her share of hardships, but she never lets that stop her from spreading love and warmth to those around her. The bond she formed with Dean’s kids was the sweetest thing ever , and her own family dynamic added so much warmth, especially with the way they embraced Dean and his children. This was such a sweet, well written book with a great storyline and all the feels. Definitely worth the read!
💕Single Parent/Nanny 🔥Billionaire 💕He Falls First 🔥Runaway Bride 💕Small Town
This small town romance doesn't start off small. It starts with a grand gesture based on human kindness and will have you melting. Not only that but it doesn't stop there, these may be two of the most selfless characters ever written. However don't worry they are far from perfect. Their story is full of flaws that allow them to discover the people they want to be and to become the person each other deserves. Can't wait to read more of this new series. I have voluntarily left this review.
ARC Review: Tropes: billionaire MMC x nanny FMC, forced proximity, runaway bride, “who hurt you” vibes, small town romance, slow burn romance Overall rating: 2.5⭐️, 2🌶️ Renee Harless does a great job capturing a cozy, small town feel as the backdrop to Dean and Lila’s love story, I just wish the backstory of the main characters was developed a bit more as a part of the plot line. While the beautiful imagery and descriptions paint an accurate depiction of what each character is doing or feeling, sometimes it felt a repetitive. Overall it was a cute read for me. Thanks so much to Renee for providing me with an e-book ARC.
If anything, Renee Harless’ new book is incredibly beautiful, charming, cosy, heartwarming, and the love story? The love story is so romantic it’s a dream.
She’s only supposed to be here for the summer, helping with the kids. Dean Harrington is at the airport waiting for his boarding call when he sees a woman in a wedding dress running down the corridor. Lila ran away from her fiancée the day she was trying her wedding dress. She bought tickets for the first flight outside the USA and she doesn’t care where. There’s a handsome man sitting near her on the plane who sees her and then, asks her to marry him. She doesn’t take him seriously but on a 6 hour flight to Edinburgh they become fast friends, he helps her with the accommodation and other stuff but she thinks she’s never going to see him again.
Dean’s sister died and left him in charge of her two children, A little girl named Evelyn and a boy named Oliver. Thinking of giving them a very different childhood to his sister’s and his own. Dean moves to a small town near a lake and hires a nanny… without knowing that said nanny, at least for the summer, is Lila. As the daughter of the woman with a Nanny service company, she steps in when needed. Although her dream is to be the scientist to find a formula against food allergies.
Lately I’ve been liking billionaire romances less and less (Dean is a billionaire). I am really disgusted by billionaires in real life and I no longer like them in my books, for usually money works as a power source and worse, a ‘deus ex machina’ that saves the day everytime. However Renee Harless’ billionaires are different because she makes them human, they’re never over controlling alpha males and they usually leave that life of luxury and high standards behind in want for a simpler life. In my opinion the romance and the stories in general work the same, money or no.
This is, again the case with Dean and Lila. He used to be a playboy and she used to be engaged to a rich man, but now they live in this house with a backyard, they read children’s books at night, they make Mickey Mouse pancakes, they hug their kids when they cry or when they have a bad day. And slowly, between the kitchen and the park, they fall in love, slowly like a summer day. But aside from building a family with the children, they find a partner and a champion in each other. They struggle to find themselves together and on their own, but they’re already a family, and these bonds are unbreakable.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

I liked this story, it was cute, a little dramatic but cute.
Lila and Dean's story started out as love at first sight on his part, let's see, that meeting at the airport when she is running away in a wedding dress and they are just on the same plane to Scotland only happens in books (but I want it to happen to me) and he feels an attraction to her almost instantly. The story is good, a little dramatic as I said, but come on, she is “on the run” from her ex-fiancé and he is left in charge of his nieces and nephews when his sister dies, so he moves to the small town of Coral Bell Cove to give them a happier and simpler life for those children that he had.
I thought the characters were spectacular, I feel like Dean was a fundamental piece to all of this, not just romantically but in how he helped Lila, how he took care of the kids without batting an eye, how without asking for anything in return he wanted to do good, he certainly stole my heart and for that I am grateful to the author (it's refreshing to read about a billionaire who isn't grumpy or unfriendly). The romance was slow, yes, even though they already felt attraction, it was slow and I liked that, Lila took her time to heal and then be free to be with Dean without so many thoughts.
It was a good story, a story that will stay with me and I can't wait for the next book in this series!
I just finished reading At First Flight by Renee Harless and boy do her books always get me up in my feels! 🥹
I love the SOFT love we experience in her books, their journeys may not be easy but it is always something incredibly special. 🤭
Dean & Lila, will hold such a special place in my heart along with this two angel babies Evelyn & Oliver! 😭😭
This book was about change, change being a choice, you can be changed by trauma, going through changes because it’s necessary in life and most importantly how unexpected change can be. It showed you that it can be SCARY, good, overwhelming, exciting, terrifying and yet exhilarating, all at the same time and while it showed us this, it’s also showed us how REAL change can be. 🦋
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book and once i was finished I had to sit back and just take the time to think about it and what’s surprising is that even though this is such a cute small town romance book, it really got me thinking about life and that goes to show you never judge a book by its cover because what some people may call “a silly little romance book” can end up changing someone else’s entire outlook on something.
But, back to this incredible story, I loved how this book started, the airport meet cute was perfect! Dean & Lila, were each others soulmates and no body can tell me any different!
Dean stepping out of the fun uncle role into Dad, was perfect, he was such an incredible Dad to those kids, giving them what he never had! Reading his thoughts really got me in my feelings, him being this incredible, kind and giving man but always questioning whether he was would ever be enough was so heartbreaking 💔 but I loved Lila for showing him that he was more than enough by just being himself! ❤️🩹
I could go on and on about about this book but I’m just going to leave with this so I don’t give to much away and you can experience this incredible read by yourself! 🤭🤫✨
Also, the tropes in this one had me frothing at the mouth, playboy/ reformed playboy, single dad/ uncle, small town romance, she’s his nanny for the summer but she’s actually a scientist & RUNAWAY BRIDE!!!!
I truly have no notes on this book it was absolutely perfect and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for us with this series because I know it’s going to be incredible!
Thank you Renee, I had the best time on this journey, truly cannot wait to see what is next! 🤭💗✨
At First Flight is the first book in the Coral Bell Cove series. It follows Lila Wright and Dean Harrington.
This book was such a great start to this new series! Dean first sets his eyes on Lila as she is running through the airport with nothing but a wedding dress and a wallet. He was entranced from the start but she vanished like a ghost. Lila ends up on his flight and sparks fly so hard that he even asks her to marry him. Unfortunately, their time was cut short as he had a family emergency and needed to leave as soon as they landed. However, he made sure to know he was thinking of her every day by writing her letters. They will make your heart swoon! Upon returning to her hometown she ends up helping her mom by taking on a nanny gig for the summer to help a man with his niece and nephew. Little does she know that the man she is helping is Dean!!
Lila is a runaway bride who found out some interesting news during her dress fitting that caused her to flee. She never expected when on a flight to find herself in the Scottish countryside to meet a man she felt a deep connection to. She is caring, smart, thoughtful, protective, and sweet. She brought life and love back into Dean, Oliver, and Evelyn’s world and made their house a home.
Dean is a complete green flag. Holy hell, this man is too sweet for his own good and is a complete cinnamon roll. He literally dropped everything and even moved to a small town to give his niece and nephew the life they deserved the one he wanted growing up. He is a billionaire but isn’t arrogant or a major grump as you see in other books which is so refreshing. He is sweet, kind, thoughtful, protective, hardworking and loyal. I love that he doesn’t want to pressure her into doing what he wants and for her to figure it out on her own.
They have such a strong connection which only grew throughout the book. This is a slow burn but the pining and tension between them was so fantastic. I definitely recommend checking out this book! I can’t wait for the next one.
You will enjoy this book if you like the following: - Small town - Billionaire - Single parent x nanny - He falls first and hard - Runaway bride - Found family - Slowburn
Thank you so much, Renee Hartless, for the gifted copy!
