But when she finds herself having a crush on a mysterious boy, Taylor realizes he is not what he seems—and that her own destiny may be far greater than she imagined.

But will their forbidden love take them both down for good?

If, for some reason, you want to keep reading this series, just stop at book 8. It tied up the plot nicely, despite constant typos, issues with names and pronunciations from the AI narrator, and the use of the word “shroud” at least 10 times. I’m finally done with this series.

Good books but a bit annoying she didn’t click the pieces together earlier. Also more whiney tones in this book.

In reading this book, one is left wondering whether the author has read the reviews of previous books in the series where proofreading has been criticised. From reading this book, it certainly seems that this is definitely not the case. Although the book had an underlying good story (hence the two star rather than one star review), this was ruined by appalling proofreading.

In one place in the book a character disappears into the gloom, only to have somebody he left behind talking to him in the next sentence. Another character managed to lean against a tree in a wide open space which had suddenly materialised in a mess hall! The book also contained many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

I just hope that the next book in the series is an improvement on this one.

I was given an ARC of this book and I enjoyed it.

Taylor is now part of the leadership of Mistfalls Wilderness Camp, a sanctuary for non-humans. However, there is a 'shadow threat', which is unknown but creeping nearer—maybe a spy?

I liked the cast of characters, their interactions, and how the story switches between characters in the first-person narrative, giving an in-depth look into their thoughts and feelings. I also enjoyed Taylor's determination and kindness and that she's not afraid of admitting she could be wrong.

There was a great sense of place, twists and turns, plenty of action and mystery.

Well-written, fast-paced and engaging.

Recommended.

A shadow threat is coming!

New students are coming to Mistfalls Wilderness Camp. Under the guidance of Director Brown, Jesse and Taylor will train them to recognize and use their powers and to defend the camp and each other. They are always on guard for new threats. Visions and dreams are warning of danger. One of the new arrivals sets Taylor on edge, but neither Jesse nor Director Brown agree. It feels like betrayal. Was she wrong to trust them?

This book is packed with drama and action. I couldn’t put it down. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
