The quality of these has gone down significantly. There seemed to be less spelling errors this time, but still an obnoxious amount of metaphors and similes, often repeated. And the action was near non-existent in this one and when it finally happened, it seemed like it resolved far too quickly.
I'm glad that some of the focus shifts to Cal, because I'd far rather read about him than Taylor at this point. Her staggering lack of self-awareness had me about to throw my phone more than a few times. She's upset because no one agrees with her without coming to the realization that NO ONE agrees with her and that could mean that...idk, she's the one in the wrong? And when it finally does click for her, it's such a sudden shift that it felt entirely unnatural. If the author didn't have enough of a plot that she had to drag that out for an entire book, maybe... don't write the book? That feels harsh, but this one was pretty painful. I hope the rest of the series has some redeeming qualities because at this point I don't understand why it's 15 books long.
I'm equally frustrated with Director Brown. Sure, she's not Yearwood, but she's still the director! And yet she, and everyone else, just lets Taylor take the reins like she owns the place. No wonder it got bad enough that Taylor used her abilities as an excuse for tyranny.
Speaking of Taylor's abilities, they're barely mentioned anymore. Not in detail. She doesn't train, even though there's no way she has more than a small fraction of control over her capabilities. She's INCREDIBLY emotional throughout the book, but apparently that is no longer an issue. Her super senses are again rarely addressed.
And, until the end, there's an unnecessary amount of secrecy that only furthers the distrust and lack of coordination in their ranks. I thought we were past using that as a plot point.
Liam could be interesting, though it seems a little convenient that it seemed to be only werewolves and vampires for the longest time and now there's suddenly so many ultra-powerful creatures. I know they weren't really allowed in Mistfalls before, so maybe they're just getting an introduction to what's really out there, but first Taylor is some incredibly powerful being that no one could dare confront and now there's suddenly others that are equally feared?
AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE DANGEROUS, MAKE SURE THEY'RE DEAD. The epilogue had me rolling my eyes, because I kindof knew it would happen.
Also, what is with the wings on the covers? Does that ever tie in?
Sorry this was more rant than review, but the author could at least get some fans to proofread for her for free, I'm sure. I would hope an actual editor would've pushed this in a better direction.

This book is a bit of a page-turner as it continues the story of Taylor and Jesse and their fight against the Shadow Council. Other characters in the series are also further developed and new friendships are formed while others are broken.
Although proofreading of this book seemed better than in the previous book in the series, it did contain some glaring errors. Wrong words used, references to things that haven't been said, and the implication that the word "Leave" has more than one syllable are just three of the issues that the reader has to endure. Because of these and other errors, I have marked the book down.
The Shadow Council's plan is insidious. After Evie’s attack, Taylor is driven to protect Mistfall. No ward can be too strong. No weapon can be enough. Fear and distrust drive her to draconian measures as rules and restrictions foster rebellion.
I could not stop reading! I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
