Paranormal urban fantasy, where history and mythology collide
“My cat’s learned to talk, my best friend’s acting even weirder than usual and there are corpse stains on the carpet. Again. And the next person to curtsey at me gets fed to the mermaids.”
All Lilith O’Reilly wants is a quiet life with her cat in her flat above the cafe she runs with her best friend Izzy.
But it’s not that easy when you’re the reluctant heir to an undead realm. Rivals want her out of the picture, her would-be suitors are being even more devious than usual, and the Mersey’s getting itchy. Oh, and the locals keep trying to worship her. Which is embarrassing.
Lil would very much like to pretend none of this is even happening. But the Holy Grail has gone missing in Liverpool, and it’s down to her to find it before all hell lets loose—literally.
Book six in the bestselling Netherweird Chronicles series, DARK WATERS is a fast and funny urban fantasy about learning to live life your own way—even when you’re dead.

Praise for The Netherweird
“Does for Liverpool what Ben Aaronovitch does for London.”
“Phenomenal…the author captures and evokes the weight of historical zeitgeist and as we scousers would say... blends it.”
“…the best urban fantasy book I’ve read in years”
“Not a single dull character among them…even the cat is cool.”
I have loved all the Netherweird Chronicles, magical realism at its best. They are pretty quick reads, and I get to the end far too quickly, and now I have to wait for the next one!! This one had a pretty big cliffhanger, so I would hope it would carry on. Recommended for the entire series.
How I bloody love these books!!! I can't wait to get my hands on them as each comes out. Violet Fenn has shot straight to the top of my favourites list. Lil is such a wonderful character, full of brash, foul mouthed charm and with a warmth of character that breathes off the page. If she was your friend she would fight to the ends of the earth for you and in this one she does indeed fight for her friendship. How complicated life is getting for Lil when all she wants is to be with her (albeit weird and talking) cat, make coffee for her customers and soak up the ambience of the city she loves. Oh and avoid all the men that make promises, expect so much from her and generally cause far more trouble than they are worth. This world is complex and beguiling and I can't wait to be sucked into it every time one of these books come out. My only disappointment is that I don't read slower. Better than most other books in it's genre and equal to the best this is a must read British original urban fantasy.
This book continues the woes of Lil as she continues to live an undeath in Liverpool and navigate the stormy waters of the wierd life there. Liam and ivo are in the story, a bit, a holy grail makes an appearance, (eventually) but the real stars of it are how Lil finally accepts her destiny as queen of the underworld and it's the threat to her friend that makes her act once and for all. There is humour, sometimes a lot of self doubt and yet the determination to do what is right. She defeats all the main players who all want power, while she wants peace. What will do about the holy grail, because she will have to do something about it eventually and even Grimm makes it clear she can't ignore it as she tries. It's an amazing tale that springs to life in your mind.
I love this series! It is such a refreshing take on the supernatural world. I love the humour in it, the tension, action, and humility.
It's set in Liverpool - somewhere I've actually been and know fairly well. The author really does it justice. So many believable characters, and now the damn cat is talking too!
There is so much going on in this series, it's had me in tears and wanting to smack certain people upside the head. I cannot wait for the next installment.
It's fun, it's fast and it's f***in' sweary. Lilith is once more setting the paranormal unlife of Liverpool by its ears. Things get more complicated by the week for Lil, and this tale is all that. Includes some interesting sidelights on the city's history, a bonus otter, and extra marks for use of obscure Scouse words like jigger.
I do love this series of books and look forward to the spin off series and the next book. Violet Fenn's writing is so good the story lines are excellent. Long may they continue.
