In Love with the Devil: A horror novel

If you love a bird, cage it, then let it fly. If it returns, then it knows where home is.

JULIANLike a breath of fresh air, a little bird flew into my life. Astoria was desperate for me to be her hero, but I’m no hero.

I tried to train her to be my pet and it broke both of us.

I let her run, gave her time and space, but she’ll never be free of me. I’ll always find her. She’s mine.

ASTORIAHe snuck into my home, always wearing a mask, did unimaginable depraved things to me, then whispered his own name into my ear. Julian.

He insisted I was his then destroyed me.

No matter where I run, nothing calms my craving for him. It’s disgusting but I'm addicted. I’ll never forgive him. I shouldn’t.

Dear readers,
First of all, thank you so much for reading my book(s).
This is my pen name. I live in a rural part of the United States with a husband, our kid and a giant, goofy, crazy dog.

I worked in the sciences for about twenty years but writing dark romance/fiction was always my true calling.

Dark stories have occupied my mind since too young of an age. At first, I used to repress them or write them to throw them away but I slowly learned that wasn’t good for my mental health. Reading and writing dark stories is therapeutic for me. Writing them flushes the demons from my mind, and reading teaches me I’m not alone. I publish them because I know there are others like me, who need to explore the darkest corners of their minds. This does not mean in any way that I would ever approve or wish such dark events on anyone's life, on the contrary.

I know that it doesn't make sense to some, but dark romance and horror are healing to many survivors and I hope with all my heart to help at least some readers heal with my stories. I also hope I can educate through the stories I tell.

I really love getting feedback from readers. The positive reviews makes me smile, the constructive negative reviews help me learn, so please don't be shy. It’s really hard out here for a rookie Indie author so please take three minutes to leave me a review on Amazon and Goodreads, even if it’s just an emoji.

Thank you very much for your help and support.

NOOOOO

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I can’t even believe she dared to give this MONSTER a happy ending ! Honestly it took me forever to read this book because I’ve NEVER hated a MMC so much in my life !!!!!!!!! But since this isn’t technically considered a romance I truly honestly thought she was going to give the FMC the chance to KILL the MMC and have a happy beautiful life with a decent human being! I am ENRAGED!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
The fact that this MONSTER was the way he was since he was a kid it’s a good representation of how a true psychopath is in real life. I will give one thing to this author and it is the art of storytelling, she honestly was able to make me finish this horrendous story because she writes it well. To be clear, it’s not that I can’t handle the dark content, that’s not the issue here. The issue here is that I love dark romance and I love my psychos when they are all about being in LOVE and OBSESSED with the woman in a beautiful possessive and protective way! I want them to WORSHIP the woman and be mean to everyone else but not the woman. Even in bully romances when they are awful first but then after they are amazing. HERE HE IS A MONSTER ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE LAST CHAPTER! The author did a good job also in showing his other side and how multifaceted a person can be and at times I felt what she’s was trying to convey, but still I thought this was going to have a different ending……. He was the type of monster that had recordings of women screams of terror so he could listen throughout the day in his headphones, after he was having her screams so he could listen throughout the day. He fantasied about rape and murder since he was a teen. He was a rapist murder and the cruelty he imposed on the FMC made me sick to my stomach. He did all you can think and more of you can’t even imagine to the FMC . He raped, degraded, hunt, kidnapped, tortured, stabbed, beat, manipulated, mindfucked, held captive in a metal collar in a completely dark basement for a year, starved, made her almost die of dehydration by not giving her any water giving her only sometimes his spit and cum as liquid, got her pregnant, when she lost the baby cause obviously she would be pumped her full of hormones so she had a chemical pregnancy a thought she was actually still pregnant because he fucked with her mind so much that she couldn’t even know the difference, made her dependent on him in the worst case of Stockholm syndrome EVER, made her fear even her own shadow, made her endure all the pain possible while making her orgasm so she could ONLY ever associate pleasure with HIM and HIS sadistic ways, killed everyone that somehow wronged her (she didn’t want this), punished her and made her believe she needed to actually apologize TO HIM for being wrong or difficult when he was the worst monster I ever read about it, she couldn’t even open her eyes in a lighted space for the longest time because he kept her in complete dark for so long, he hacked every single device she had and put cameras everywhere so there was no escape him, the worst of all is that he broke her spirit and willingness to fight, he made her feel worthless to everyone else but him. The fact that the author dares to also make her an abused girl since she was little and think ALL was her fault. She was abused by her father when she was 5 years old, hated and blamed by her mother, raped by her first and by her second boyfriend, than raped, tortured and everything i described by this monster and in the end when you think she finally found someone decent the guy was actually another rapist sex trafficker who faked everything just to sell her….. Gosh I want to forget this book 😤🤬😡

This book chewed, spit me out, and left me feeling like a discarded ragdoll. It's a horror erotica novel that not only pushed my boundaries but also made me question my moral compass. It's been a while since a book has had such a powerful impact on me.

Here is what to expect

Severe Stockholm Syndrome

Captor/Captive

Taboo- Doctor/patient

Masked stalker

Total Minfuck

A list of Tiggers

Not only did this book blow my mind, but it also left me with a big book hangover. On my dark scale, this book is pitch black.

At first, I didn't think I was going to love Astoria. I ended up adoring her. My heart broke for her and felt every emotion for her. Julian is morally black. You hate to love him. At the same time, you can't help but wonder what he going to do next.

I found the author's writing style to be engaging and the storyline kept me hooked from start to finish. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books from this author in the future.

For a book with five pages of TWs, it sure missed a huge one

The book starts with the psychopath describing his obsession from childhood to OW. It really, really soured my mood, but this was described as pitch black, horror erotica and I just needed to know.

The OW is mentioned for the last time at 77%! Just when all the horror and mindfuckery had managed to make me forget, there he goes, comparing the prey to OW, AGAIN

Molly never looked at me like that.

My tolerance never really recovered after that.

Grammar issues, formatting and strange wordings aside, I think the author had made interestingly twisted individuals. It almost read like a form of study in self-hatred and endless self-destruction. I admit, I skipped 90% of the torture porn, which means I probably shouldn't be marking this as read, but ¯\_(ᵕ—ᴗ—)_/¯

But it was all wasted because if you read about an obsessed, pitch dark psycho hero THE LAST THING you expect is a fucking MENAGE/SHARING scene.

what.

the.

fuck.

It made sense for the heroine to try to have a 'normal' relationship after all she went through, so I didn't mind the fact she sleeps with OM in her attempt to find that.

But the hero asking her to give OM a blowjob? And then lets him p*netrate the heroine?! Irredeemable.

I finished because by then I was too close to the finish line, but honestly, for a book so full of truly horrendous stuff, it sure seemed oblivious to the biggest trigger in romance...

Without the OM menage scene this could've been a 3 ★ only for the good mindtwists and the slow burn progression of heartless to heart-having(?) psychopath.

But I don't do sharing romance, so 🚮

I would give this 10 stars if I could. And thank goddess I started this in the early afternoon. This would have been an obvious all-nighter.

If by reading the blurb you think this is not your jam, move along. Do not disturb the peace. ✌🏽 I have read a lot of memorable dark romances this year and honestly, this might be the best one. Dear author, you have a lifelong fan in me. I know she was writing this for herself. Please continue to share the dark corners of your mind in your toxic love romances. Every trope, every scenario you explored… you smashed it. Even ones I didn’t think I would be into (medical doctor and patient?!) and ones I tend to get disappointed by because it’s always promised but never up to expectations (breeding kink/chemical pregnancies).

In some ways, it reminds me a lot of A03 writer, Deathsdoll’s “If I Can’t Have You” in both the use of the brutal and violent stalker that the heroine knows, and the mental breakdown the heroine goes through, and eventual believable conclusion of toxic love on both sides. Also the smut. In some other ways, it’s a real novel that is like a bodice ripper: give me a saga. An epic. A journey. I want the heroine to be put in one unbelievable situation after another. I don’t think I’ve had my expectations shocked so much since I read Haley Inez’s Deadly Vows a few years ago (the escalation by the hero? Chef’s kisses. No remarks).

I really, really enjoy dark romances written in this way: long stories, and a believable turn where both hero and heroine realize they love each other, yes toxic, but earned because of all that they went through. For all the explicit smut and abuse, I need to feel at the end of the day that the hero does feel for the heroine and that the heroine does find the hero attractive and the acts good for her, even if she doesn’t understand wtf is happening. Story does this beautifully, taking the time.

These are my initial thoughts. I will come back to add my favourite quotes because this story was lowkey funny with its deadpan dialogue.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨

Is it possible to get Stockholm Syndrome from a book or the characters? Because I seriously think that’s what I have after reading this book. How can I possibly have compassion and empathy for Julian when he causes and inflicts so much terror and abuse? Both mentally and physically. After reading the last words of this book, I truly felt like something was wrong with me.

Let’s me be clear about one before you read and rate this book… this is NOT a dark romance nor is it marketed as one. This is a true Pitch Black Erotic Horror.
It’s very hard to submit this review because I do not want give any spoilers for the book… that’s part of the appeal so I will keep it as vague as I can. I will say that Julian is the most unhinged, obsessive MMC I’ve ever read about. His methods for showing his love and obsession are the most brutal and jaw dropping I’ve seen yet. He stalks, hunts, drugs, plants cameras everywhere and monitors all aspect of our FMC’s life. His devotion to his obsession knows no bounds. He performs painful surgical procedures (that didn’t need to be painful), brands her skin… and those are the nice things. Several times while reading this, I found myself curling my toes with how far he took his wrath, or love, or obsession. Julian is the definition of truly f’ed up BUT all that being said, throughout the book, I found myself feeling empathy for him. We find out later where his psycho behavior stems from. Again, without giving anything away, I do think he loved our FMC… even though his actions said otherwise.

I loved that story took place over a few years instead of months giving us the true feeling of Stockholm Syndrome with our FMC. What she was put thru and endured was not for the weak and her psyche shifted throughout the book. Being held captive, the physical abuse and all the mind fucks she endured could have only happened over time to make it believable. I can appreciate that fact and the brilliant way the author didn’t rush into a happily ever after. I think each scene and timeframe were perfectly executed… having us, the reader become more anxious as to what was going to happen next.

This was one of my favorites reads this year.

Do I recommend? YES! If you can handle it.

I’m so confused on how I feel about Julian. Do I love him? Do I hate him ? Is Stockholm syndrome real for readers ? 😅

I haven’t read a book so pitch black in a long time and I really enjoyed it ! It is so well written and worded were it doesn’t make you cringe the whole way through at how completely messed up it actually is 🤣

I always advise this, but please please check the trigger warnings for this book, even if you think you don’t have any, as this book even caught me off guard ! ❤️‍🩹

I love how this book really shows you the in-depth thoughts and feeling of both characters. I find this really opens your eyes on their situation (not a justification of anything that happens in this book, just a mere observation, as many will relate to astoria). The HEA definitely soothes the heart to know that after everything, it all works out it the best it could. ❤️‍🩹

Also, little side note, I just love the style of writing and the whole layout of this book. Perfect length chapters, smaller sections during chapters, and the chapter titles are just a great touch (also the pictures)😍

Deliciously Brutal!

If you enjoy erotica with psychopathic and deeply traumatized characters, a gripping plot, and brutally insane sex scenes, this book is for you.
I couldn’t put it down. It pushed my moral boundaries in the best way possible. I loved every twisted moment and need more books like this in my collection.

I highly recommend it if you have zero triggers. It’s deliciously brutal, just the way I like it.

4.7 ⭐️ I don’t read trigger warnings but this is one book that I beg you to please be so careful because it is intense
With that being said, obviously this isn’t going to be for everyone but somehow this book fully pulled me out of my reading slump
This book ripped me apart to many times, and truly the amount of times my jaw dropped and I had to set it down was unbelievable

This book was definitely pitch black as promised but I couldn’t wait to get through it and not for the good reasons. There was no character development or plot. The author uses 500 pages to graphically describe things listed in the trigger warnings which seem to be just for shock value. I was expecting something more like Haunting Adeline but this book was a complete disappointment and that’s without all the editing errors I found when reading.

Holy Stockholm Syndrome, this was so good, so dark, and complex. A little repetitive and lengthy in the events and scenes of pain, sadism sex — there is an inordinate amount of an$l intrusion— and mental, physical, and emotional abuse, but still a lot of depth to this story.

Asher Julian, a GYN, her GYN, is completely obsessed and unhinged for Astoria, who likes to see the good in all even at her expense. Their love story wraps around the intricacies of a past in common, with her learned pleasure in pain, and her deriving comfort in a tormentor. You see him break her and create her into someone who is his perfect companion, someone who craves him, and falls in love with his true bad self. And while he might be her devil, he is also her avenger. Anyone who touches or touched her with harm can say goodbye.

All this woven into a multilayer plot line of thought processes, childhood experiences, friendships, past and current attempts at love in relationships, mental and physical captivity, and personal evolution. Oh and there was lots of spice, too.

Lots of dark themes in the story, lots, and it’s a first for me to note the content warnings are baseline descriptors of what to expect. (I rarely check content warnings since I’m not triggered or bothered by dark themes.) It’s pitch black, an exotic horror, yes, but this one has a happy ending where our antihero stays pretty much true to character, and just shy of redeemable.

I loved the side characters and their contribution to the complexity of the plot line. Mindy, Astoria’s best friend, was the friend you want in your corner. Great show of diversity having a Latina heroine, excellent small subplots that added to the drama and intrigue. Great story overall that leaves you thinking.

I will admit that the cover of this book is extremely beautiful however, I was not a fan of what was under that cover. This book is about a OBGYN who becomes obsessed with one of his young patients. His obsession with her becomes very sick and twisted. He ends up taking into captivity within his house and eventually after a several months she gets away from him. The rest of the book is about what happens to her after she escapes and his obsession still grows. This book tries to push all the boundaries of depravity and this just becomes repetitive and unnecessary. Between the grammatical errors and the completely trashy I had to force myself to complete this book. This is absolutely NOT a dark horror!!! Whoever placed it within this genre, needs to take lessons on the genres within the book world. At best this book is poorly written dark erotica.

This is the worst book I’ve ever read Dnf at 44%. The way I forced myself to even get that far should earn me a medal. This is soooooo bad. No fuckinf way she fell in love with someone who did that shit to her. This is not even just pitch black it just fucking horrible. I’ve been needing a pitch black mmc but this one shouldn’t be considered a male main character WHAT IS THIS BRO 😭 NAW LIKE I CAN HANDLE DARK SHIT BUT THIS LIKE GOODBYE THE WAY I WANT TO CHT HIS DICK OFF INTO LITTLE PIECES AND SE HIM SUFFER WTF. I SKIPPED TO THE ENDING AND IDEK WHST HAPPEN BUT IK DAMN WELL IT PROLLY DIDNT MAKE SENSE. actually the worst book I’ve read in my life damn yeh no not for me love that other ppl cud enjoy this but THIS WAS SHIT. yeh idek why tf I read this it was honestly one scene that made me be like no fucking way this is happening but I don’t even want to talk abt that scene bc it was so absolutely crazy and I was like hell no fucking way he that to her like 😭 This is def horror not a romance but they fucking end up together?? Like hell no I was hoping he would die at the end but unfortunately he didn’t. Starting off the year with 2 dnf’s in a row is crazy but hey I’m super positive it cannot get worse than this so!

Wow. I must admit, this was the darkest romance I’ve read yet - this is a true erotic horror story. If you enjoy questioning your own moral compass go ahead and do yourself a favor and read all about the captivating despicable yet addictive Dr. Michaelson.

Astoria nor the doctor meet traditionally seen character tropes, both felt believable and interesting with their own character developments.

Overall the spice and suspense kept me on edge, I read straight through the night dying to see just how this could possibly end.

10/10 go ahead and wreck your sleep schedule, In love with the Devil is worth it.

DARK DARK DARK and I loved every second of it. This is the perfect mix of two amazing kinks--doctor and grape fantasy--then mix in torture and it's wickedly good. This book will make you question all your morals but then still brush past all the red flags at a sprint.

if you don't have triggers--dive in babe! These shadows will not disappoint.

Not for me.

Apparently, that's not his first time being "obsessed" with someone, and the OW was mentioned till 75% of the book.

Hold on, it gets worse;
IT HAS A SHARING SCENE. And I mean full on sharing, like he watches (orders) OM to fuck her, and her to blow OM..

Man wtf

Sky creates such intensity and force in “In Love With The Devil.” TW/CWs are there for a reason. The story is not a fluffy romance with a touch of darkness. I don’t have any triggers and prefer to go into most stories blind. Do I suggest that for everyone? No.

“In Love With The Devil” is very dark. Julian’s behavior is questionable—of course, all fictional. The story shows the physical and psychological aspects of ownership and control Julian has over Astoria, which evolves into Astoria's acceptance. How dependent she is on him.

Sky Blu explores dark themes in detail in almost every scene, leaving me feeling raw. The characteristics of Julian and Astoria throughout the story also bring up all sorts of feelings and questions on my end that I believe are intentional. I am happy with the way it ended.

⛔️🆁🅴🅰🅳 🆃🅷🅴 🆃🆁🅸🅶🅶🅴🆁 🆆🅰🆁🅽🅸🅽🅶🆂⛔️

Honestly, this storyline takes a part of you, throws it into the washer on spin and drain, then spits you back out! 🫦

It’s an extreme Stockholm syndrome, there is no let up for our FMC. Her life before wasn’t a bed of roses, then our MMC comes along stalking and kidnapping her, he taunts her with fears and phobias, on top of t0rture and all the rest he subjects her to 🔪🩸⛓️💀💦 When I say he puts her through the wringer, I mean it, some parts were gut wrenching, others were hard to dissect and this makes it a great read. Just when you think her life has got back to something (I won’t say normal) liveable, WHAM! He never left 👺

The writing is good, Sky describes it in a way that ensures you feel everything 😬 I look forward to reading more from her but in the same vain I don’t want to be in her head 😂😂

I wouldn't describe this book as horror or erotic horror. It was more of a sadistic dark read. This book was basically about never-ending abuse and rape. There was nothing really likable about either character.

The whole thing with Sebastian made absolutely no sense.

Mindy was actually a very supportive best friend.

Pitch-fucking-black✨
I went into this one semi-blind. Only knowing that there is a connection between this book and Saving the Angel of Death. So I knew how dark Sky Blu likes it. If you have triggers, it’s not for you.

THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN.
SB paints the world in your head so that you feel like you’re right there with Astoria. I loved every second I spent reading this book. Avoided going out on NYE so I could stay home and read this.
I will absolutely be reading whatever this author writes. My little black heart thanks you, Sky 🖤

The moment I begin reading a book, is the moment I start writing my review. I do this because I want to notate all of the things that make me laugh, cry, and cringe so that I can consolidate my notes at the end and write what I hope is a good review that will help determine if you want to read the book.

It started out this way, I was going to tell you about how this book was perfect for the Dark Horror lover and reader who can read any trigger warnings. But in the end, that wasn't what I wanted to share. Yes there are many triggers and yes it's dark which is my go to when it comes to genres and tropes, but I personally had a difficult time reading it.

Immediately you are introduced to the main characters, getting a little background for both of them and then your hit with the spice which I liked because sometimes you want a fast burn. And there's no hiding it since the blub says it all so we already know just how crazy Julian is. This guy just can't help himself when it comes to Astoria. He's obsessed, possessive, and unhinged. Usually you would steer clear of that right? No, not Astoria because this girl doesn't even know what she wants. She basically asked for it.

But after the first quarter of the book I felt that it was very repetitive and the story dragged on. Julian and Astoria were on a constant cycle of him abusing her the same way in every scene, and she dealing with it the same way each time. I would have loved to see more of Astoria's life before Julian took her, or even more of his relationship with Molly.

I did like the idea of the story and the author was very good at describing the scenes and portraying the characters. Though this was not one of my favorite reads, it's definitely not the last time I read one of Sky's books.

Just noting, there are definite spoilers in this review. I marked it as such but here’s another chance to not read this review.

My goodness, this was definitely dark. One of the darker books I’ve read. It’s definitely horror erotica rather than dark romance. This has an ending where the MMC & FMC end up together but it’s hard to feel happy for them. The heroine definitely developed some strong Stockholm syndrome.

The MMC basically tortures the FMC through out the book, escalating as he goes. He’s definitely very possessive of her. It’s literally touch her and die.

This is extremely smutty and it’s almost all noncon. There is almost nonstop sex through the whole book.

I can say that I couldn’t stop reading despite not loving it. It’s a bit like watching a train wreck and I had to see how it all ended.

There’s nothing really safe about this read. If you need safety it’s probably best to avoid it. There is on page descriptive sex with the FMC and an OM which I’m normally against but he was the only man in the book who was good to her so it’s weird. There’s another scene near the end where the MMC essentially shares h before killing the OM he let touch her.

Lacking depth

I see what the other reviews were insinuating with it being “pitch black.” I was very much up for the challenge but it ended up being another one of those books where it was 99% of spice and little to no storyline. The little storyline that this book possesses was to little and far between, I didn’t find the book remotely interesting till the last 50 or so pages, the book being 500 + pages makes that a problem for me.
If you don’t care for storyline and just want to read pure forced, dirty and cringy spice with emotional manipulation and torture then you may enjoy this book more than myself. I personally by the end of it just wished for her to be put out of her misery because I was bored to death of the same repetitive assault. With the lack of depth I couldn’t develop a relationship with her or her captor, they were both disinteresting due to the very little character development.

Holy amaze balls!! Okay first please please read your trigger warnings, as this is extremely DARK! Like wow what did I just read kinda dark.

Anyways, the way these two characters come together is the most f'd up way I've ever heard of, but it ends up being the coolest "romance" I've ever read. Think Stockholm Syndrome but on a scary level. The things this man does to her, holy hell. So they are hot but is the most screwed up way ever! The main character is so loveable you want to just help her out. (Me yelling at her, when she could have done something different) I really really really enjoyed this book! The stalking, the friendships, the torture, and the love were all amazingly written. I can not not wait to read more by this author 🖤❤

This was…. Crazy, wild, brutal but so well written and I’m not sure I should have liked it so much 🫣🖤

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♾️

But the fact that Sky created such an evil minded MMC where we get a look inside how his mind works, was utterly fascinating. I was intrigued from the first page where he starts out as a manipulative “boyfriend”. And Astoria was so likable and even in her darkest decent I wanted her to be, and stay strong 🖤

I really enjoyed the thrill and horror. The hunt and the captive/capture dynamic. I was biting my nails and I can’t remember the last time a book had me this hooked. 🖤

I’m not going to go into details because it’s hard not to give it all away. I am excited to see what Sky brings us next!

⚠️ TW are many so please read them. This is beyond dark ‼️🖤

It’s like the author took every f-ed up thought she had and threw it at this book

A book like this really makes me question the author’s mental state. I read the trigger warnings beforehand but was still shocked by how dark and depraved this book got. Factor in the fact that there wasn’t a plot line (and no, obsession and perverted fantasies are not plots) and the reader is left with nothing of substance. I mean if you like torture p*rn just say it - no need to write a book about it. Please go talk with a therapist.
