“Don’t overthink it”, is a phrase that is easier said than done.
For Felix Storm, Flick to his friends, not that he really had many, overthinking is something he does constantly. Overthinking and anxiety really do just go hand in hand, and certain activity can really make these spike for Flick, especially being around new people Friday night's after-work drinks. After being persuaded to join his co-workers one Friday night, Flick met friendly bartender Anton. Somehow sexy bartender Anton makes fearful Flick feel that maybe new experiences and getting to know someone new isn’t too bad after all.
The more Flick sees Anton, he starts to believe they are being targeted by the tarot card serial killer terrorizing Eldoor. With the growing body count and signs pointing to Flick and Anton being next on the hit list, it sends Flick into panic mode, determined to track down this killer before they get to him and his new love interest.
To solve the mystery, Flick has to confront his inner demons, exposing him to both new situations and people, making him very uncomfortable. Who is behind the tarot card killings? Is the killer someone Flick knows? Do his fears and anxieties get the better of him?
Awesome! I was a little nervous to start, wondering how in depth the m/m romance details would go but soon relaxed. I got to know and understand the characters and their connections. My focus was on who wanted to hurt my friends!
Love it! Felix is so well written. It feels like his anxiety and overthinking were plucked directly from my own brain. Loved the twist at the end, didn't see it coming!
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of Lucas Delrose’s new book Judgement to review
Felix Storm, Flick, is a young corporate man who struggles in social situations and has some skeletons in his past. Antoni Winter, Anton, is also the finest young bartender in Eldoor and has had a troubled past and is trying to turn things around for himself. And when these two combine they become… Captain Planet… just kidding, when they come together, sparks seem to fly and they hit it off quite well. Anton helps Flick come out of his shell more and start living his best life when things start to happen.
A serial killer has been plaguing the town on Eldoor and seems to have set their sights on our two love birds. As they try to find out why the serial killer has them in their sights, we go on a journey to find out what each of them have done in turn to gain the killers attention. We meet a seriously hot cop and his sister, an Aunt in the occult, and Alice. All of whom play an integral part in figuring out what the actual hell is going on.
Lucas Delrose takes us on another fantastic journey through his world. His story telling pulls at your heart strings, and in my case, has you swearing black and blue as the suspense keeps you awake at night. The pacing was spot on and really adds to the emotions he wants you to feel.
The character and world development are top notch, and you feel like you are really getting to know the characters and the people around them, rooting for them to succeed and scared they may fail in their goals. I loved the links to pop culture through out the story and really enjoyed the twist at the end!
I know that this will NOT be the last time Mr Delrose makes me feel ALL the emotions again, and I very much look forward to whatever he has in the works next.
Judgment is a fun story with a really good mystery, the characters are well written like the two main male characters, first there's Felix who everyone calls "Flick" who because is afraid to totally be out of the closet and because of a horrible mistake he made two years ago out of hurt and anger when his Ex Brandon broke up with him, over thinks everything and doesn't always make the best decisions about who he should consider a friend and who he shouldn't and then there's Anton he's the nice and handsome guy that works at the bar that Flick goes to sometimes on a Friday night with people from work, Anton has a lot going on, but really likes Flick and wants to get involved with him, he has a very interesting family and some problems from the past, the side characters are just as well written, like Gianna who works with Flick and is real friend to him even though he doesn't realize it at first and Gianna's brother Jorge and the "Alice in wonderland characters" were great, I don't want to say to much about them because I don't want to give away any " Spoilers" but I will say I loved who "Alice" turned out to be, the mystery was also well written and it was a surprise who the "Tarot Cards Killer" was, this really is a fun story and I really enjoyed reading it.
I think it's amazing! I also wrote it, so I have to say that. I tried to go more darker with this one, and challenge myself with a character who wasn't as perfect. Kept in the same universe as Cherry on Top, I stuck to the same cute boy dating suspense romance style, but with darker elements and a more complicated MC. I really wanted to bring attention to people who do have severe anxious and how they over think, and how in some cases their thought path works. But I also wanted to keep it fun, mysterious, spooky, weird and out there. So if you liked Cherry on Top, or you're in the need of another cute gay boy fix, or you want another book that makes you think wtf did I just read. Give Judgement a shot. ~Lucas
Judgement really could focus a bit more on Anton and how cute / mysterious he is. But the book, I suppose, has to a have a little plot. By the way, the plot is good too as a mystery thriller sprinkled in with an anxiously relatable main character.
