Don Gerdt was a fighter-pilot hero, who with his plane landing in frozen waters off the Korean Peninsula, singlehandedly took on a whole platoon and rescued captured American soldiers. He didn’t feel like a hero, though. He was just trying his damnedest to stay alive. He had thought Kathleen was the one woman who would wait for him while he was away at war. “When he got back she was all smiles and honey and he thought he had picked up where he left off.” He was wrong.

Bitter, Don set off on a drinking bout where he could forget about the hero nonsense and that Kathleen. Only to find Cassandra Calloway eager to pick him up in her convertible and then make endless passionate love to him by the lake: “he was faced with something rare in feminine architecture. She was one of those magnificent copper blondes with skin as rich as Jersey cream, tanned and chested like Venus. She was long of leg and lean of flank, this being obvious because she wore only close-fitting white shorts and a scarlet halter. Over the shorts was a skirt of the same material but it was unbuttoned and open.”

Cassandra is a rich widow whose husband died in a plane crash in a little town in Mexico. But, yes, here’s the catch cause big copper blondes like her with all that money always come with a catch. She wants to send Don to Mexico to make sure her husband really died. After all, the body was burned to a crisp allowing no identification other than his wallet which miraculously survived. But finding him alive would only mean that her inheritance fortune would be at risk and would be problematic for her relationship with Don. But she assures Don she just wants to be sure. Don smells a set up especially when he sees her out the cockpit window as he takes off locking lips with another man.

This is, of course, all a prelude to a men’s adventure episode rescuing the world from the Soviet Union. Nevertheless, Don heads to the small Mexican town, to meet his one contact and do his investigation. Captain Soldarez warns Don not to begin investigating right away and to wait until the right moment. And, Don bides his time with Deldee Cortez, the most beautiful and innocent woman in history who he met on the bus ride in, her two voluptuous sisters, and the triplets who are available in the nearby camp.

“Tabasco” is an easy to read fun adventure novel, punctuated as it were with Don’s rather amorous adventures.
