Rielle’s world crumbled the day her boyfriend of six years broke up with her. She thought it couldn’t get any worse until her four best friends— including her ex— rebel against the king and leave her behind. Not that she wanted to rebel, anyway. In the wake of the upheaval, everything looks over… until a dragon changes everything.
The last place she expected redemption was from a dragon, and the last job she expected was chasing down her rebel ex-friends. As suddenly as her life changed before, her life changed again, but putting her past aside and embracing life with a dragon is simpler said than done...
Jules Conrad is a new to me author, I picked this up because it had a dragon on the cover, so I made that bet that it might have dragons in it. Indeed there are dragons.
There's the familiar trope of unusual bonding with a dragon, but the unusual aspect is that the main character is an adult (24). I don't want to give away much more than that, because I really enjoyed not knowing anything before reading the book.
I liked the writing style, and I thought the pacing was good, as well as the plot. It was the right book at the right time. It took me basically one 24 hour period to finish it. Now, I am wishing for more.
Fantasy is not a usual genre for me, but I began reading this book on a friend’s recommendation. Around chapter 4, I was completely hooked! The pacing and plot are as good as any I’ve encountered in books by much more well known authors, and I’m starting the second one as soon as I finish this review. Can’t wait to see how the series unfolds.
