The city of Rochester is in the grip of fear, a terrifying wizard killing at random just for the fun of it.
But is he? Or do the victims have something very specific in common? They each received a business card before they met their ends and Tempest Michaels soon discovers the dead are not the only ones to have been contacted. He has clients lining up, all of them convinced they could be next.
Are they connected? Is there a reason why the wizard chose these people?
Well, that’s for England’s number paranormal P.I. to figure out. But can Tempest Michaels match a man who can command the elements and kill with a thought?
No, probably not, but then Tempest doesn’t believe in magic and his plan mostly involves punching the wizard in the pants.
Get ready for absolute bedlam!
'There isn't a series like this anywhere in the world. The author's imagination is truly remarkable and I laugh so hard at his books I've almost given myself a hernia.'
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
Tempest Michaels doesn’t…didn’t believe in Magic but what’s happening of late is truly tragic. Rochester is all a bluster and he has them queuing at his door. Not new cases ,just the one but numerous times over , the same worry moreover. Is this the sign of the times . The ne’er do wells with magic spells. It’s beyond reason but there’s people in despair thinking that there’s a strong chance they’ll be joining the wizard’s dance of treason. Each victim receives a business card in the mail but they’re not the only ones . What in actual fact is going on? Well there’s no easy answers that’s for sure and with this magic act there’s no encore no reprise ,just Rochester on its knees . So Tempest had best think quick before all of Rochester us cut to the wick. His relationship with Amanda is grander and grander and Big Ben well he’s the same as ever and they all team together and act real clever ,but can they second guess or will they make even a bigger mess . Not even Big Ben with his big chest and arms and turning on the charms can hope to avoid but maybe if they decoyed…military manoeuvres maybe the order of the day. Whatever they do it’d better be in a hurry to stop the residents and spare his parents the worry. Book 24 ,I am in awe of Steve Higgs and his series ,relentless and great is the prose and the characters we love so much that are humorous and numerous and so diverse and all about saving the universe ,well a little corner of it a little pocket if you will with the stroke of his imaginary quill . Compelling ,you know I’m telling you exactly that and it’s a fact it’s immersive with great storytelling prowess . I would gladly read Steve Higgs for hours .
Another awesome addition to the blue moon series. As ever authors notes are great. Coincidentally I finished all other books in this series the day before this one was due to be released so that worked out well for me.
Hoping the series continues for as long as possible as I see from the from the authors notes throughout the books Steve is worried about them becoming stale if he continues them for to long. But he need not worry as the series has gone from strength to strength with each book and there is zero drop off in quality or any repetition.
With the breadth of characters he has created in the blue moon series and the ridiculousness of some people beliefs these could easily continue unabated for years to come without covering the same ground.
Another great book by Steve Higgs and I was lucky to receive an ARC copy. This is a Blue Moon mystery where Tempest has to debunk a wizard who is using tricks to murder people, except no-one believes him, so as usual has to figure it out and not get involved with the local police - no mean feat! A great story with the usual great characters, lots of humour and, of course, Big Ben LOL!! I loved it plus the will he, won't he, question of proposing to Amanda - great ending. Looking forward to the next book already.
Another great story in the series! Nobody believes Tempest (as usual) when he says that people are being killed by a magician and he has to go through a great length of planning, resources and friends to be able to put the culprit behind bars. The story has a lot of humor, he's struggling with finding the right moment to propose to Amanda, has to field his parents' comments regarding his professional life, and the advances of a journalist, and there's Big Ben's antics... I thank Mr. Higgs for this ARC.
Although I like all the Blue moon books, the original ones are my favorites, followed by the Boston PD ones. The characters are fun and the monsters are so funny. I sure hope we get to read more since Jane still needs to solve the Buckingham Palace murders. I’d also love to see Big Ben find a partner. The never ending women just seems slimy. There are so many things I’d love to read the direction of this series to go in, it I’m not the author so I’ll settle for reading more of his books.
I have truly enjoyed this entire series. That said, No Such Thing As Magic, is absolutely fabulous. I love good magic shows and could actually picture everything in my head. Steve Higgs writes very descriptive scenes that make it feel like you’re watching as the scenes unfold. Being an American, I admit that I have looked up some of the terms used but you don’t have to. I hope you take the time to read the Blue Moon Investigation series. You won’t be disappointed
Now in my seventh decade I thought that I would flit from author to author: so much to widen one's experiences. Alistair McClean to Terry Pratchett over the years have kept me addicted to such quality. UNTIL NOW. Just finished the complete Blue Moon series in one straight stretch. I must now follow the other Steve Higgs book series. If they, and they will, entertain me in the same way I will have to spend less time at work/ hobby and invest in me time. Read on and explore.
While the Blue Moon Investigations series is not my favourite from Steve Higgs, I always enjoy the book. This book is no exception - good characters, lots of action, plenty of humour. Probably the most difficult thing for me is accepting that there are so many lunatics out there who might believe the unbelievable. However, suspend your disbelief and you’ll be fine.
Fast paced and a bit of fun and part mystery, part thrilling. Having believed this was the last book I wondered how Tempest was going to propose to Amanda. I love how he tried to figure out when was the right time and place. But as usual things don't always work out how they were planned. So on that note you must read the book to find out. Thanks Mr Higgs for another great chapter.
Tempest is back and on a new case. This one is a doozy. A wizard is picking off people with magic, lightning, fireballs, and more. And after three confirmed deaths, linked by his calling card, Tempest is hired to prevent the new card receivers from meeting the same fate. I so enjoy the humor that Higgs imbues in his books. Always a joy to read his stories.
Great to see the our favorite made family of sleuths back together for another epic tale. Tempist, Amanda, Big Ben and the rest of this fun loving group of friends successfully solve another mystery. I hope the next adventure is soon to follow.
Getting into the mind of a...wizard??? Luckily, Tempest doesn't fall for that business and he's sorely put to the test in this investigation. The things these characters get up to leave me laughing to tears and, sometimes, just plain baffled...lol. Intense case from the start. Loved every minute of it!
Tempest and the team Forever!!! Magic or is it? What is for sure is that one of Tempest's most vicious evil doers is causing death and destruction!!! How will he save everyone? I adore the Blue Moon investigations series, the humor, the horror, the heart!!! The characters stick with you and so do the surprises!!! Read them all, you'll love them too!!!
I always love a good Tempest story. All his friends and family just round it out and make it realer. But best of all are the two little love bugs with wagging tails. It would be easy to have the boys find a clue to help solve a case. I'm going back to see what I've missed!
What more can you ask for than another really good mystery, adventure, and no real magic in here! But then you have so much insane fun trying to figure out how things were done. And best of all is the end. Or will it be a new beginning? We need another book to tell us!!!!!
Tempest is up against a wizard this time who is killing people who wronged him in some way, Amanda has her own case involving a unicorn and Jane is working on s case involving the Royal family. Tempest wants to propose to Amanda but the timing always seems wrong.
I have read at least 40 of Steve Higgs books. I am delighted to get a new episode in the Blue Moon series. I would recommend a new reader start with #1, but the book will hold up on its own. No spoilers-but true fans will really want to read this one.
I was trying to figure out the magic tricks along with Tempest. I guessed right about lightning bolts. The plasma ball trick is still a mystery. I never even suspected the levitation trick. All and all great story.
This book is amazing and I loved it, but I have to say, I was scared that Tempest was going to be seriously hurt or worse! The "wizard" was an absolute creepazoid!! It was great seeing the gang back together, and I loved the plan.
This was a really good installment! The wizards are frightening, and I was quite worried about Tempest, but of course he prevailed, and we have some romance, too!
