Disclaimer! I did receive this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway. That’s said my review is my own!

This was an interesting book, there are many things that can be applied in my relationship with my wife.

One thing I thought was a great exercise was was talking about our current goals and what matters most to us as an individual and with our relationship. We had some similar goal as well as completely different ones.
I also liked the total difference score (TDS). It’s was pretty interesting to see how we ranked all of our priorities. And what we thought was most important.

My big takeaway from this book was communication. Just talk with you significant other. And not just in conversation, but actual deep meaningful conversations.

Cons.

One thing that I noticed was the book tends to repeat itself quite often. I felt that I read the same sentence or paragraph MANY times. And thought maybe I read this already,I understand that some points they were trying to drive home and have it be remembered. But yeah kinda felt like I read that each topic/ point several times.

Another point the book doesn’t take into consideration is the personality or upbringing of each individual. (If it does I may have just missed it). For example I notice that my wife and I agreed on many things or we ranked one of our priorities the same, but we disagreed on how to go about it. And it was usually due to us just being raised differently or one was more relaxed about things.

Another than those I think this was an interesting read and has many tool that we could apply to our relationship. And even as time goes on and our goals and priorities change that could be even more of an asset.

Nick Brancato’s Prioritize Us is a game-changer for anyone seeking to deepen their connection and strengthen their relationship. This book delivers exactly what it promises. It is a simple yet profoundly effective principle that can transform how couples approach love, communication, and partnership.

Brancato’s writing is clear, relatable, and packed with actionable insights. Rather than bogging down readers with overly complex theories, he focuses on real-world examples and practical advice. The concept of prioritizing the “us” in a relationship is refreshingly straightforward, yet its impact is immense. As Brancato illustrates, shifting your mindset to view challenges, decisions, and conflicts through the lens of partnership can create a foundation of trust, respect, and shared purpose.

What sets this book apart is its balance between heart and science. Brancato weaves in compelling stories from couples and insights from psychology, making his advice emotionally resonant and intellectually grounded. Whether in a new relationship, navigating challenges, or simply wanting to ensure your bond stays strong over time, this book offers something invaluable.

The book doesn’t just teach you how to improve your relationship. It inspires you to cherish and nurture it. After reading, I re-evaluated how I approached my relationship and embraced the principle of “us” with newfound clarity and commitment. This book is a must-read for couples at any stage. Brancato’s wisdom is a gift to anyone striving for a lasting and loving partnership. For this reason, I am honored to award it five stars.

This seemed like a college thesis stretched into a 200+ page book. While the idea and premise were good, helpful even, it was too repetitive. It also seemed too self assured like it's methods were fool proof until you reach the end and the author back peddles a little.

I've been at this book reviewing game for a good couple of years now, and during that time I have encountered all manner of self-help books (enough that I probably need a self-help book on my self-help book consumption). Relationships, they tend to me in the upper percentile of topics non-fiction authors turn their pen to when compiling guidance and advice. The reasoning? It is relatable, easily marketable and everyone thinks they're an expert.

Enter Nick Brancato, Personal Development Coach and educator, with his new title, Prioritize Us: Unlock Lasting Love with One Simple, Proven Test. On picking up this title, my initial thoughts were "nice cover, but dubious on the claim" (what can I say? I'm British and it's in our blood to be cautiously sceptical).

Coming in at 238 pages (nine chapters, with three appendices), Prioritize Us puts forward a simple exercise to help couples reconnect with what matters most to them. By placing a number between one and ten against a selection of core priorities, couples can compare the difference in numbers to arrive at a Total Difference Score (or TDS). Quick example, if I say my career means everything to me, scoring it one, but my boyfriend thinks nothing of his career and scores it ten, then our TDS for this attribute is nine. The higher the overall TDS number, the more polarised a couple may be in their values.

While in theory this sounds simple enough to explain, the reality is that Brancato does the content far greater justice. He applies his 25 years of experience into every corner of this book, it really shows. The tone of voice and formatting is clear, the pacing set just right. There are even appendices at the end that introduce variants of the test and ready-made, photocopiable pages for readers to print and use straight away. This, while at the same time humbly acknowledging that this book is by no means a silver bullet to solving all relationship problems. The nod to instances where independent counselling may be a better form of reconciliation is a welcome sight. It all makes for an informed and pleasant reading experience.

As relationship guides go, Prioritize Us is by far one of the best reads I've had this year. Made for people at any and all stages of their relationship, this is a book that prioritises the reading experience as much as the readers themselves.

This book is a fantastic resource. It’s not explicitly about how to prioritize your relationship over other things in life, as that title would suggest, but discussing each other’s priorities with your partner will help you strengthen and prioritize your relationship. This book is thoughtful and extremely thorough. Its two biggest strengths are its practical, specific tips and its focus on compassionate curiosity.

While the TDS difference scale numbers themselves feel a bit arbitrary to me, the key is having discussions about why a certain area of life is more or less important to each person. Nick Brancato is absolutely right that those discussions should be approached with a desire to understand one’s partner - not a desire to fix him or her. Brancato then offers great practical tips for how to have those discussions and how to align with your partner even if your priorities are different.

While the book is a bit repetitive, that makes its points even clearer. I definitely recommend it to couples and have already used it to have some great conversations with my spouse. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and Health, Mind, and Body for the free eARC. I post this review with my honest opinions.

This book had some interesting concepts. As a whole, it was okay. I can certainly see and appreciate the value of couples taking the time to make sure they are in sync with their values and discussing whether or not they are on the same page.

But, the execution of relaying the concepts is just lackluster at best.

My biggest gripe with this book is that it is so very repetetive. There are words, phrases and scenarios that are repeated multiple times throughout one chapter, then worded slightly differently and repeated again throughout the subsequent chapters. I'm talking repetition to a point where I literally wanted to bang my head against a wall.

The strange and unfortunate thing is that there is some relevant and interesting research that is brought up in the "Bonus section" that I feel would have been better if it were interwoven into the main chapters and fleshed out more. This felt about 100 pages too long.

This relationship support book is better than some of the 'paid for' content on the internet. There are questions for reflection throughout. I appreciate the examples of specific situations between two couples and the analysis throughout the book. I have been married for 23 years and life changes have created a misalignment. This book is a perfect way to openly and safely work together on your relationship.

This book had good information. While I was not the target audience for the book, the concepts made sense and seem like they could be easily implemented within a relationship. I did feel however, that some of the information was repetitive.

There was a time in my life when I grooved on self-help books. They are probably as good as they ever were, but my interest is no longer there.
