This children's biography is about Betsy Ross. "Let's Read About Betsy Ross" allows children to read a book about a historical figure and not be overloaded with facts. This books talks about Betsy Ross' upbringing and how she became an important person in history. Betsy designed the American flag around the time of the American Revolution. I believe that incorporating biographies is important in my classroom because students may be able to take their own background knowledge of social studies and start putting the pieces together of who actually accomplished the things that we either talk about in Social Studies and the things we have or do in America. By incorporating a biography within an ELA or a Social Studies lesson, this can enhance fluency and understanding of history. I knew about Betsy Ross a little bit but I did not know the background of her life and how she had 16 brothers and sisters or that she stopped going to school when she was 12 to start working. By keeping this in mind, I must remind my students that times are different now and dropping out of school at 12 in this day in age is most likely not going to gain a person fame as it once did. The dynamics of today's society and back then has evolved a lot more. This book is a good read for students and young children to start learning about U.S. history.

These "Let's Read About" early Biography books are perfect for young readers. As introducing whomever these books are about to young readers. They always start out with the person's birth and a little bit about their childhood; then moves onto whatever made them famous. This one gives a little bit of History about the states before they became the states. Then how a woman managed and made a name for herself during a time when women did only cooking and housework. My 3 year old granddaughter and I really enjoyed this book.
