I didn't find Kristin a particularly believable character, but I have not read any of the previous stories where I might have gotten a little more feeling for her. I can't picture her Houdini-like escape from a deserted train car, even after reading twice. The FBI sure is sloppy in this - in more ways than one. Those are my thoughts after reading this short story. It sets up the premise for the next eleven, and you sure wonder what's going on in that plane .... and it was an "okay" read, which doesn't mean it's horrible....
This book was a great start to the Flight 12 series and I can't wait to read the next installment. It was great to revisit the character from the Final Vector novel. This story moves along at a quick pace and is never boring. The characters are well drawn and I was left wanting more at the end. The pace moves along well and I definitely look forward to seeing what happens next. This is a fun story and I recommend it.
This is a novella that is the first story in the Flight 12 series. The Flight 12 series has 12 short stories written by different authors with a forward tying the novellas together.
This one started off well. The action was reasonably realistic until the last part of the story. The scene at the airport was a little off but my main issue with the story is not knowing what happened with the plane. That wouldn't be so bad if I could read all of the novellas and learn the outcome. However, the last book tying this story about the plane to the other novellas is no longer available. This is disappointing. I would have considered reading all of the novellas, but without the last one there is no reason to spend more time on them.
Flight 12 is quite an event that has been put together by 12 talented authors. Once a month a new story is released by one of the authors, and the link between stories is that characters from each one will end up on Flight 12. Then a final book will be released to end the story, complete with input from readers. It's a great idea and certainly one that deserves to succeed.
This story is a quick read, and the first one in the series (I understand they are up to number 4 as I write this). A young FBI agent, Kristen Cunningham, is taken from her boring desk job and given an undercover role in a sting designed to catch a low-life crook. It was quite a cool story line that had me hooked, but I did have a bit of trouble believing in the main character. I know her backstory included an injury from a mission to protect the President, plus six years of field experience ... but I still didn't find her that believable (sorry peeps). Maybe I missed some early clues on her talent and abilities, but I didn't really have a lot of confidence in her suitability for the job. Or ... it may just have been because she was young enough to pass as a young teen in the sting, that I felt she would be too young to have any real hardened experience under her belt. But, putting those reservations aside, I did feel that the story improved once she got out of the office and the sting was underway, although it wasn't a gripping thriller. As I mentioned, it wasn't a long read, and I'm sure that if the story was longer, the author would have been able to build the tension and action to make it more intense. You'll need to keep in mind that it's not a full novel, it's only one part of a much bigger picture.
Although I think it’s a great idea for this collection of stories to merge and climax in one final story, I'm not sure at this point that I'm in for the rest. At only about 80 pages, it definitely wasn't a long read, but it did cost the same as a full novel (around $3.99). Given that there will be 12 of these short stories under the banner of Flight 12, it would end up costing close to $50 to buy them all. That's quite a cost to see the story all the way through.
In a nutshell: I know it’s a short story, and part of a bigger plot, but I felt that it needed more tension, drama and a more believable main character. It’s a great concept. Full marks to the authors for putting together something that is such a great idea and different to the norm. 3 stars for the story and an extra one for the concept.
Note: I don’t claim to be a pro-reviewer, I am a reader. My reviews are based on my personal thoughts around the story that the book is trying to tell. I try to focus on the story (which is the reason I read) rather than dissect the book and pass comment on typos, writing style or structure.
I have been tortured just plain tortured. Upon finishing this first portion of flight 12 I have been left feeling the desire to know what happens next, unfortunately this reader has to wait. I have to wait for the next installment of what appears to be an upcoming best-seller for these 12 authors yet again. Allan Leverone has given flight 12 the most thrilling sendoff possible. Allan gave his special agent Kristin Cunningham a chance to come out of the office and she hit the ground running. Despite this being only 79 pages long I will tell you it is the most action-packed 79 pages you will ever read. It will leave you just as it left me, wanting the next installment and wanting it now! I'm tapping my toes now JCarson Black, I'm tapping my toes. Don't miss out on something that is going to be great! Get a copy of Allan's book, grab your passport, and join me for flight 12!
Flight 12: A Kristin Cunningham Thriller is written by a dozen award-winning mystery/thriller authors. Flight 12 begins with Allan Leverone's installment "Flight 12 Begins". Once I started it I didn't put it down until I was finished - I couldn't. Like his other novels, I was so captivated by the story, it left me wanting more! Recovering from injuries suffered while preventing the assassination of the U.S. President, Special FBI Agent Kristin Cunningham is assigned a tedious, boring desk job. Just as she reaches the quitting point she is offered an undercover assignment to help break up a vicious Russian Mafia human sex trafficking ring. The sting operation fails and Kristin finds herself taken prisoner by a desperate volatile man who is trying to escape the country. With astounding twists and turns Allan Leverone gives us a wonderfully suspenseful thriller and a tough, smart and determined heroine in Kristin Cunningham. I can hardly wait for the next release.
…Fasten your seat belt and get ready to board Flight 12. This is a series of 12 writers, writing 12 stories that have a character who boards Flight12. Allan Leverone’s Kristen Cunningham starts off the series. Kristen is a Special FBI Agent. She is recovering from an injury she sustained preventing the assassination of the President of the US. She is on desk job and bored. Kristen is asked to take an undercover assignment to help identify the ringleaders of a human sex trafficking ring run by the Russian Mafia.. What could happen when she will be covered by many agents…… Unarmed, without a cell phone Kristen goes with one of the traffickers. This man is a extremely bad character who is trying to exit the country by pretending to be helping the FBI. Captivating story!!! Good characters, fast paced thriller…..
Exciting, fast moving story line. However, I don't think it should the same price as other multiple chapter books. It took me a whole hour and a half to read, (with a few interruptions). Hoping book 2 in the "Flight 13" series is longer, otherwise I'm not sure I'll continue.
