Welcome to the Sunshine Inn, a picturesque coastal inn with sweeping views and two new owners who couldn't be more opposite. From bestselling author Amy Clipston comes a no spice, grumpy/sunshine romance perfect for fans of Anne-Marie Meyer and RaeAnne Thayne.
Two polar opposites, one cozy inn--and one sweet and surprising chance at unlikely love.
When Everleigh Hartnett, a cheerful traveling NICU nurse who can't sit still, inherits half of her godmother's beloved seaside bed-and-breakfast, she dreams of selling the place to fund the nonprofit she and her godmother always envisioned. But there's one tiny her new co-owner. Rugged, grumpy, and fiercely loyal to the inn, Cade Witherspoon isn't about to let his peaceful life--and his new start--be sold off so easily.
Everleigh and Cade are opposites in every way. She's sunshine and laughter, while he's all rough edges and quiet brooding. Their clash of wills over the inn soon has them wondering what on earth Everleigh's godmother was thinking when she left them both in charge.
As Everleigh gets to know Cade's softer side--and Cade finds himself drawn to Everleigh's optimism and kindness--their disagreement over the inn becomes something sweeter. But with the arrival of Cade's long-lost brother and the looming threat of a developer sniffing around the property, they'll have to make some hard choices--together.
Can Everleigh and Cade let go of their expectations and build something lasting together? Or will the Sunshine Inn be the place they both leave behind?
Second Chance at Sunshine Inn by bestselling novelist Amy Clipston is a heartwarming, standalone romance, which features the grumpy/sunshine trope and a charming small-town setting that's Netflix's Falling Inn Love meets Debbie Macomber set in a seaside bed-and-breakfast. This book delivers all the emotions and butterflies, leaving out the explicit scenes. And it comes with engaging discussion questions, making it a fantastic choice for your next book club pick!

One Liner: Good premise, but 2D characters and repetitive writing
Everleigh Hartnett is a traveling nurse who inherits her godmother's beloved seaside bed-and-breakfast. She wants to sell the place to fund her nonprofit, something both of them wanted to establish.
However, Cade Witherspoon, the new co-owner of the B&B, has no such intentions. He wants his peaceful life and a new start that the place can provide. As the two clash, they see more than their social personalities.
But with a developer and Cade’s long-lost brother entering the picture, they have some tough decisions to make.
The story comes in Everleigh and Cade’s third-person POVs.
My Thoughts:
This is exactly the kind of book I enjoy reading. A good setting, some drama (but not a lot), and two characters who are opposites of one another. Of course, grumpy vs. sunshine is a popular trope!
Sadly, the lack of character depth and subpar execution prevent this from being a heartwarming read. I’m surprised since the author has written many books. Maybe this is one of those not-good ones?
The book starts strong (TW: death of loved ones). I could feel the FMC’s grief, her stress, the pressure and uncertainty of the situation, etc. I even like her profession as a traveling nurse specializing in premie babies. Such a wonderful career choice!
However, the FMC soon lost my support, and it went downhill until the end. She is supposed to be sunshine, but I found her annoying, childish, and stupid. Flaws are realistic, but this went beyond that!
The MMC was okay, but, god, he needed therapy yesterday. Writing a grump is not easy, and we see how easily it could go wrong. Still, compared to the FMC, he was 2% better and could whip up delicious food.
TBH, I liked the side characters, like Roger, Quinn, the parents, siblings, etc. The inn sounded like a beautiful place, and so did Coral Cove. Small towns are charming for a reason.
The subplots didn’t really do anything when they should have added layers to the characters.
Despite everything, the book could have been better if there had been some nuance. I don’t want deep stuff. You can keep it light and still play with emotions.
The cat was good, though!
To summarize, Second Chance at Sunshine Inn is a clean romance with a good premise you can breeze through. However, it didn’t work for me.
Thank you, NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
Amy Clipston treats her readers to a wonderful heart felt romance that will stir your emotions and keep you turning the pages. A traveling nurse returns home to attend her godmother’s funeral and finds out that she has inherited half of a bed and breakfast Inn . The other half of the Inn belongs to a handsome grumpy man who is a total stranger to Everleigh Hartnett. Cade Witherspoon would rather run the Sunshine Inn by himself and would prefer that Everleigh be a silent partner. The trouble starts when she wants to list the Inn for sale in order to fund a nonprofit organization she wants to start. Cade wants to keep the Inn and add onto the business. Everleigh doesn’t give up so easy and Cade just seems to get more stubborn with each passing day. It appears that their business relationship has started out on the wrong foot. I enjoyed reading this slow burn romance book. I liked that the story kept me guessing what the outcome would turn out to be. Besides the attraction that Cade and Everleigh share for one another there was a lot of other things happening in the story. Cade had a lot of hurt feelings from a past romance and found it hard to trust another woman in his life. I thought the book was emotional, a page turner and realistic. I was totally drawn in from the first chapter. I recommend this book to readers of contemporary romance, Christian Fiction, and to fans of the Author. Second Chance at Sunshine Inn is scheduled for release on 7/8/25. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #SecondChanceatSunshineInn #NetGalley
This is a classic inheritance story where a guy and a girl get half ownership of an Inn and they have conflicting ideas of what to do with it.
Everleigh is a sweet character and I liked her optimism despite experiencing grief. Because of the premise and the setting, I figured that she would end up keeping the Inn at the end, but I really liked her vision of funding a non-profit with the sale money. Her conflict with Cade over this felt realistic and I was entertained watching it play out. Everleigh's growth over this was well done.
Cade was a grump at first and judgmental. This worried me since I do not enjoy reading enemies to lovers. However, this went down the grump x sunshine route more than enemies. Neither character was disrespectful, they were just assertive in their opinions over the Inn. Cade grew as a character as well, and I thought it was really well done. The way he slowly softened up was so cute to read.
The romance was really satisfying. It is slow burn! I thought the way Amy Clipston described their connection forming was so detailed and authentic. It made me like both characters even more. There's maybe one kiss. It was the emotional connection that meant more and I loved that!
I loved the setting! I could feel the cozy small town vibes of Sunshine Inn.
Parents in books are usually annoying, and this was no different. The unreasonable actions of Cade's mom drove me nuts but not to the point where I didn't enjoy the story anymore.
What would have brought this up to five star level is adding faith content. This is a clean secular romance. Faith content would have added extra depth to the characters that I think was lacking in their healing process.
Definitely recommend! One of this author's best.
Tropes & Triggers: grumpy x sunshine, inheritance, meddling from the grave, no language, only kissing, grief
EXCERPT: 'We're here for the reading of Ms. Alana Elizabeth McFadden's will.' The lawyer's beady eyes flicked over Mom, Everleigh and Cade. 'I see we're all here, so I'll proceed with the reading.' He set his glasses on his large nose and began to read aloud. 'I, Alana Elizabeth McFadden, a resident of Brunswick County, North Carolina, and a citizen of the United States of America, declare this to be my Last Will and Testament. I hereby revoke . . .' Everleigh stared down at her wet jeans and lost herself in memories of Alana as the lawyer read the will. The memories played like a movie through her mind. Playing at the beach with Alana. Watching movies together and eating popcorn. Crying in Alana's arms after her first boyfriend dumped her. She recalled dancing in the kitchen of Alana's bed and breakfast, the Sunshine Inn, where Everleigh had worked part-time until she graduated from high school and went to college to study nursing. Alana had helped with her college expenses, always sending her care packages full of snacks and supplies with an envelope of cash strategically placed at the bottom of each box. And she'd never forget the night when Alana insisted on staying on the phone with her to make sure she didn't fall asleep while Everleigh drove from Colorado to Texas for her next nursing position. They had discussed everything from their favorite movies to Everliegh's nonexistent love life, to the non-profit they'd dreamed of and the parents and children they hoped to help. But now Alana was gone, and so were those late-night phone calls and hugs and . . . everything. Suddenly, the tears she'd kept at bay during the trip from Texas to North Carolina welled up. She'd been trying all day to hold the tears back and stay strong. She sucked in a breath hoping to stop the display. Oh no. Then the tears poured from her eyes. She felt like a fool for losing it in the middle of a lawyer's office - especially in front of Mr. Buford and the mysterious Cade. She yanked a tissue from her pocket and wiped her eyes and nose. A hand touched her arm. She turned toward Mom, who was staring at her. 'Did you hear that, Everleigh?' she asked, pinning her with a serious expression. She shook her head. 'I'm sorry. I was lost in thought. What did I miss?' Mr. Buford pressed his thin lips together. 'I'll read it again, Ms. Hartnett.' He gave his throat a dramatic clearing. 'I hereby bequeath fifty percent each of my said property, real, personal, or mixed, to Everleigh Alana Hartnett and Benjamin Cade Witherspoon III.' Everleigh blinked and tried to comprehend what the lawyer had said. She listened intently while he continued reciting the document, but her mind was buzzing with confusion. What did it all mean? When the lawyer stopped reading, Everleigh took a shuddering breath. 'Mr. Buford, can you please explain what you just read?' He took off his glasses and set them down on the desk before refolding his hands. 'Ms. McFadden left you and Mr. Witherspoon each fifty percent of everything - her bed and breakfast and the contents therein, as well as any funds. She'd also like you and your mother to go through her personal items and decide what to do with them.' 'Sh - she left me the bed and breakfast?' Everleigh whispered as her eyes brimmed with tears once again. Alana had left her everything - everything. Her shock spilled down her cheeks. Her godmother's generosity was too much to comprehend. She was so grateful. Alana had always been thoughtful and giving, but leaving Everleigh everything was above and beyond. But wait, Alana hadn't left her everything. Everleigh had to share the B&B with a stranger.

MY THOUGHTS: With Second Chance at Sunshine Inn, it's all about the journey not the destination which was pretty obvious from the outset. And it was a lovely journey encompassing some difficult family relationships, the pitfalls of not expressing feelings and needs, and the need to work together and find a middle ground. Cooperation and communication are the key to any good relationship but neither of the MCs were particularly good at either until they were forced into a corner and had to evaluate what was important to them. I found myself willing Everleigh and Cade to 'say what you mean and just get on with it!' instead of pussy-footing around.
There are a few surprises thrown into the mix - one BIG one in particular which was an interesting subplot. But at times there was a little bit too much going on. I didn't enjoy the bad relationship between Everleigh and her sister. When it was revealed what was at the root of it, I could understand how it could and does happen, but it felt like one problem too many in the mix and was more distracting than interesting.
The book is probably a little longer than it needs to be, and cutting out the repetition would improve the read. I didn't enjoy this particular title as much as I have other titles by this author but won't hesitate to pick up her next book.
Despite this, I enjoyed my combined read/listen of Second Chance at Sunshine Inn, slightly preferring the read format to the audiobook, narrated by Melissa Moran, on this occasion.
A quick and pleasant HEA read.
⭐⭐⭐.5

3.5 stars - Sweet story- clean romance with opposites attract and family drama. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Set in a small town with coastline views, Clipston set the stage for a heartwarming romance in a surprise twist of fate.
Two strangers become co-owners of the inn. Neither knows about the other, but they have a very close connection with the prior owner. The female lead comes home for the will reading and finds out she is sharing an inheritance with a strange man she’s never heard of.
The ins and outs of deciding whether to sell or keep it, the two end up sharing more than living space as they slowly open their hearts to the possibility of a future.
But it’s not all sweet and sunshine as these two get to know each other. What are they giving up, and what are they gaining? The female lead was only focused on one thing - selling, so she could get back on the road. She did not even ask what he wanted to do or what he needed. Both were poor at communication, and that was frustrating for the reader.
Regardless of their struggling connection, Second Chance at Sunshine Inn is an engaging story full of small-town helpfulness and tenderness. Family connections are strong, along with some drama, and the locale begs for a real-life visit.
The story started out a bit choppy, with short sentences that didn’t seem to flow right, but soon, I settled into the writing pattern and ended up enjoying this sweet, clean romance.
Perfect for women’s fiction and lovers of the slow burn, grumpy/sunshine romance.

I received a free copy of, Second Chance at Sunshine Inn, by Amy Clipston, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Everleigh and Cade are left bed and breakfast. Everleigh and Cade butt heads a lot, they do not have the same vision for the inn. This was a nice cozy read.
SECOND CHANCE AT SUNSHINE INN is a heart tugging story filled with grief, loneliness, heartbreak, and love that will hold you hostage until the very last page. Once I started this heartwarming story, it was very hard to put down! Amy Clipston isn’t afraid to write about subjects that tug at the readers hearts. Oh, as a warning to the reader, keep the tissues handy and do not read the ending in a public place unless you don’t mind crying in front of strangers! I’m so excited to continue catching up on all of Amy Clipston’s previous books.
When I hear that Amy Clipston has a new book coming out, I run to it. SECOND CHANCE AT SUNSHINE INN is exactly why! Everleigh learns that her godmother has left her the Sunshine Inn when she passed away. Everleigh is thrilled, that is until she realizes that she will be co owner with the handyman, Cade Witherspoon. What could possibly go wrong? Cade tells Everleigh he wants to keep the inn up and running. Everleigh wants to sell it and start a non profit! Hee haw, hang on readers! This is going to be so much fun!
Amy Clipston has created a wonderful story filled with beautiful families and characters. She is so amazing at what she writes, no matter if it’s Amish or contemporary fiction. Her descriptions of each setting had me feeling as if I were right there in the inn giggling with the Cade and Everleigh. SECOND CHANCE AT SUNSHINE INN was a quick read for me because I had a hard time putting it down once I started. I found myself cheering for Everleigh and hoping she could get Cade’s walls to come down. I love the way she never gave up on him no matter how hard he pushed her away. They also butt heads more often than not and I just wanted to shake the both of them. Most of their bickering and arguing was because they didn’t tell each other how they were feeling or what they were thinking. Communication is a big problem for them!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
There’s really nothing entirely unique about Second Chance at Sunshine Inn it’s a well exercised storyline, two strangers receive an inheritance that must be split, one is a ray of sunshine the other a thundery storm, I mean it’s pretty much there in the opening, we know where it’s heading, however, sometimes that’s really not a bad thing it’s a well known trope for a reason, we all like to watch the ice thaw we all love a happy ending. That’s exactly what we got here.
Cute, sweet often quite heartfelt. Pegged as Christian fiction, which I have to admit I’m slowly realising that that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s religion in the book, in fact in this case I don’t even think it’s referenced, but I think the idea is that you’re guaranteed a good clean romance . I obviously can’t speak for an entire genre, but I think my point is don’t be deterred by that. Just a nice wholesome read/listen.
The narration by Melinda Moran for this title was a great fit.
Huge thanks to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan fiction audio via NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook which is available now 🎧
This was a sweet, low tension romance between Mr. Grumpy and Miss Sunshine. Both ha be thwarted dreams and wonder what is possible. The romance moves in fits and starts as misunderstandings abound. Add in family challenges for both and there is some tension.
The audiobook is also well narrated so if you enjoy listening to your books, then that will be a good option for you. This book is perfect for those if you have a sweet romance set in a beach community.
2.5 🌟I will preface this review by saying that, if you like Hallmark movies and/or closed-door romances, this may just be the book for you! Or, if you love enemies to lovers or grumpy/sunshine tropes! I, however, am not a big fan of these things and thus this book was not for me. I did love that it was set in coastal North Carolina, as that’s where I grew up, and I loved the references to UNC Chapel Hill (my Alma mater!) and Wilmington (my hometown!). I did not love the lack of PDA (you’re running a B&B with 8 bedrooms- take advantage!!) nor Cade’s persistent use of “Darlin’” when referring to Everleigh (it didn’t pair well with his curmudgeonly demeanor and also, it made me cringe every time). Overall, this was a cute book that I think fits the bill for a beach read, especially since it was such a quick read.
Second Chance at Sunshine Inn follows Everleigh and Cade, two strangers that are forced to find middle ground after receiving 50/50 ownership of Sunshine Inn.
Polar opposites, Everleigh and Cade try to get along while holding differing plans for the inn. Will they sell, like Everleigh wants? Or will they commit to working together and running the inn, like Cade desires.
The premise of this book held so much promise and I’m really sad to be giving it a 2.5/3 star rating. I fell in love with Amy’s writing when I read The Heart of Splendid Lake but this book fell short of my expectations.
I enjoyed the small town setting, the fall festival they had, the summer days spent at the beach; it was very reminiscent of how I spend my days in the summer/fall!
I just could not get past how childish Everleigh was. For her to jump right to selling, not even giving any time to hear Cade out was off putting from the start. She was so confident she could change his mind! And then for her to trust Trevor over Cade, I was so frustrated with her!
The side plots did nothing to further the main story and I feel like she really could have just chosen one instead of the five she wrote in. The ending felt rushed!
I really do love Amy and her writing but this book just didn’t hit for me! I’m glad to read the uplifting comments and hope this book finds the right audience!!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book!
⭐️⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Amy Clipston for this ARC. The following is my honest review. Hopes were high at the start. A woman inherits an inn from her godmother—only to find she must co-run it with Cade, a man she barely knows. Why her godmother would set up such a situation is a compelling mystery. The clashing visions for the inn promised tension and charm, but unfortunately, the execution didn’t live up to the premise. The narrative voice felt overly explanatory. It jumps between perspectives and often spells out what each character is thinking, even as they go on to say it themselves. This made the pacing feel sluggish and left little room for natural conflict or subtext. While I typically struggle with miscommunication tropes, I found myself oddly wishing for a touch of it here. Instead, every emotion and motivation is stated plainly, leaving little room for subtext or natural tension. It was over-explained to the point where even small conflicts were diluted. The male lead, Cade, also presented a challenge. While emotional immaturity in a character can work when it’s met with growth, his reactions often felt disproportionate and juvenile—especially in light of revelations about his family. Even when the narrative gave him reasons for his behavior, the execution didn’t reflect much personal development. His journey lacked the nuance I hoped for. Additionally, one subplot involving a certain townsperson everyone seemed to instinctively distrust felt exaggerated and was revisited repeatedly to the point of fatigue. There were certainly elements I usually enjoy—grief, inheritance, small-town dynamics, and a reluctant partnership—but the execution didn’t quite land for me. I appreciate the setup and the heart behind the story, but ultimately this wasn’t a good fit for my reading taste.
Everleigh was devastated when she found out her beloved godmother, Alana, passed away.
She had spent summers there and loved the Bed and Breakfast Alana ran and that she helped with.
When she was called to the attorney's office to hear the reading of the will, she was totally surprised that she was left half of the Bed and Breakfast and more surprised her godmother had left the other half to her handyman, Cade.
Why did Alana do that?
I think Everleigh finds out why as she and Cade grow closer even though she is all sunshine and he is a bunch of worry.
SECOND CHANCE AT SUNSHINE INN is a heartwarming read with great characters you will love and a setting you won't want to leave. 5/5
Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book given to me by Thomas Nelson Fiction via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. A sweet love story between a sunny, optimist heroine and a bit grumpy hero, “Second Chance at Sunshine Inn”, by Amy Clipston, shows two different people finding common ground and overcoming obstacles. Cade and Everleigh are likeable characters, and anyone would appreciate Cade’s cooking talent and Everleigh’s dedication to her job. I liked watching the romance develop between Everleigh and Cade, although I found both were too set on their own ways. I loved Cade’s passion and skill with cooking, his love for his family and even for the cat, Bryant. I liked how he bonded with his long lost brother and regretted their mother’s attitude. Cade’s wariness was understandable because of the betrayal and emotional pain he’s still going through. He’s still capable of gentleness and thoughtfulness. Sometimes I felt he was a bit too moody and impulsive. Everleigh’s cheerfulness and optimism were admirable and a contrast to the hero’s darker vibes. In some aspects, she was a bit naïve. I felt they waited too much to try some sort of resolution but I liked how it all worked out in the end, although I thought Alana’s prediction was a bit far-fetched. I liked the sense of community and the characters in general. Bryant is an amazing cat, I loved watching him.
Second Chance at Sunshine Inn follows Everleigh, a cheerful nurse, and Cade, a grumpy innkeeper, as they unexpectedly inherit the Sunshine Inn in Coral Cove. I loved the vivid descriptions of the inn and the town—it sounds like a place I’d love to visit! I also enjoyed Everleigh’s family dynamics (apart from her odd sister) and thought Bryant, the cat, was a sweet character who added a calm, harmonious presence and even acted as a bit of a mediator.
The exploration of grief in this book felt heartfelt and genuine. I appreciated how Everleigh and Cade’s emotions surrounding Alana’s death were portrayed—it didn’t feel overly scripted. Seeing Alana through their eyes made her feel real and significant to the story.
That said, I struggled to finish this book, even though I usually love romance novels. The pacing was slow, and the characters didn’t feel like people I'd want to spend time with. Everleigh, in particular, rubbed me the wrong way at times—her actions felt naive, and I had a hard time connecting with her.
I also found myself wondering about the purpose of the story as a whole. The subplots, like Cade’s dynamic with his adopted brother and Everleigh’s swimming issue, didn’t feel strongly tied to the main plot, which made it harder to stay invested.
If you enjoy small-town settings and heartfelt explorations of grief, this book may resonate more with you. While it wasn’t entirely my cup of tea, I can see how others might find its emotional depth and setting enjoyable.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
this is a contemporary romance with the enemies to lovers trope. And this will be a happily ever after--everything comes together and everyone is smiling at the end book. So if you'd rather one that is more...realistic, this won't be it. but if you just need a feel good story, this is your jam.
Although it's part of the Christian fiction genre, it's there because of the author and because it's just a clean story. There isn't any scripture or God other than mentioning going to church. So don't expect any faith aspects.
This is an opposites-attract trope too.
the story was sweet, though you wanted to smack the lead female a few times for her naivety and cluelessness.
I'm just going to give it 3 stars because it's predictable and didn't have the character buildup I like, nor did it have the faith elements I need in Christian fiction.
*Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for my ARC of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.
I’ve read multiple books by this author. And, each of them have been very good! She has a way of writing romance novels that maintains their wholesomeness, yet gives you insight into their souls! No smut. No spice. But sweet, kind, basic, lasting…. Love. Even though it may take a whole village (and a lifetime) to attain this! 😊. Kind of reminds me of Hallmark Movies… to give you an idea…
Everleigh is a NICU Traveling Nurse. She’s very dedicated to her profession, and has even missed major milestones in her family’s lives as she was away with work! BUT, her family and her heart remain in her small hometown!
Cade is a Jack of many trades. He is currently running Everleigh’s Godmother’s Inn… but he has an extensive past with some pretty serious specialties in it!
They meet, kind-of by chance, after her Godmother’s death…They did not know each other… never met before, but they are both in the lawyers office for the reading of the will. And, surprise, surprise! The Sunshine Inn has been left to both of them! 😮🤔
Not knowing how this is going to pan out (or work), Everleigh takes a leave from her job until she can figure out what to do. She’d love to fulfill her Godmother’s dream of opening an ‘Angel hotel’ for kids and their families who are in need. But, to do this, they’d have to sell the Inn.
Cade, on the other hand, would love to keep the Inn and turn it around. Into something bigger and better than it already is! And he has the mindset to do just that!
And that’s the whole problem in a nutshell. One wants to sell. The other wants to keep it and improve it!
Interesting to see how it all turns out in the long run!!
4 bright, beautiful 🌟🌟🌟🌟 for me!

I enjoyed this sweet grumpy/sunshine romance. Everleigh and Cade were left the Sunshine Inn by Everleigh’s godmother Alana. The challenge is they have never met and are at odds about what to do with the Inn. Everleigh sees it as a sign to sell and use the profits to fund the nonprofit she had planned with Alana while Cade wants to keep the Inn and grow it as he discussed with Alana. Together they have to figure out the future and sparks fly as each is convinced that their solution is what Alana wanted. Adding to the turmoil the characters were feeling was each was facing a family drama. Plus each struggled to figure out what they truly wanted and to communicate it. The setting, a small coastal town, added to the sweet feel. I recommend this sweet romance to readers that enjoy grumpy/sunshine romances filled with miscommunication and family drama.
Thanks to UpLit, the publisher, and the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book—it pulled me in right away! Everleigh was a wonderful female lead: strong, relatable, and easy to root for. Her dynamic with Cade was especially fun to read, with their classic sunshine-and-grump pairing bringing both heart and humor to the story.
That said, I did find the middle of the book to be a bit slow in parts. There were moments where the pacing dragged, and I found myself putting it down and struggling a little to get back into it. However, I’m glad I stuck with it, because the ending tied everything together beautifully. It wrapped up with a sweet and satisfying conclusion that left me smiling.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read with lovable characters and a heartfelt romance.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC!
*Thank you to Uplit Reads for including me in this tour !
Sunshine, coastal, nonprofit…
Cade & Everleigh have both inherited 1/2 of the Sunshine Inn B & B.
To sell or not to sell won’t be the only disagreement these two reluctant co-owners will have.
THOUGHTS:
* Romance novels are not part of my comfort zone like historical fiction and thrillers are. The main trope of this book is grumpy/sunshine, as well as opposites attract. Personalities will initially contrast. Will that change as they get to know each other better?
*Charming atmosphere!
*Family drama included in the plot. Especially Cade’s family.
*A bit predictable at times. Even the title hints at the plot.
*First time reader of this author!
*Readers that like romance genre & clean romance with a great setting & relatable characters will LOVE this one!
What was Alana thinking when she left her Inn to her goddaughter, Evangeline, and her handyman, Cord? The two had never met and were as opposite as could be. Add to that each had completely different ideas for the Inn. Cord wants to update and keep it going. Evangeline wants to sell it and start the non-profit she and Alana dreamed about. How on earth will they ever agree on a plan of action that works for both of them.
Add in past hurts and family secrets, along with an unexpected attraction, and you have a rich story of healing and trust and moving forward after pain. Beautifully written, as every Clipson story I've read has been.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are mine.
Amy Clipston did something with this grumpy sunshine romance that had me giddy with joy. The book took me by surprise as it not only touched on second chances but sibling relationships ,family ,trust ,heartbreak and community. It’s the perfect summer read
Everleigh Hartnett is a travelling NICU nurse, so when she finds out her godmother, Alana, has passed away, she returns home immediately. She is shocked to find out at the reading of Alana’s will that half of Alana’s Inn has been given to her, but the other half has been given to Cade Witherspoon. They are distrustful of each other, and both have opposite intentions on what to do with the Inn that Alana has left them. They are each other’s opposite in every way.
I liked and enjoyed reading this sunshine to grumpy trope. I liked the sense of family that both Everleigh and Cade had, the support they received, and some of the friction they both experienced from family members. But my favourite character by far was Byrant the cat! Recommended.
My gratitude to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson. All opinions expressed are honest and mine.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Thomas Nelson Fiction and Amy Clipston for the E ARC of this book. Everleigh comes back to the Sunshine Inn, which she has inherited form her beloved Godmother. There is a very big obstacle in her plans to sell the Inn, in the form of Cade Witherspoon who has also inherited the Inn. Everleigh wants to sell to start the non-profit, herself and her Godmother were planning, Cade wants to keep it and expand it as he and her Godmother planned. They come up with a compromise, that Everleigh has until a certain date to sell the Inn to buyers who will take care of it and keep it running. If she can’t do so then it stays an Inn and Cade runs it. In the meantime there is work needing done to the Inn plus guests to look after. Can Everleigh and Cade learn to work together? I love the descriptions of the Inn and its surroundings. Everleigh and Cade were very much opposites but they both say the good in each other. I liked their dynamic, also the way they cared about the Inn and those who came to stay. I liked learning more about both main characters back story and meeting Everleigh’s family and friends, as well as the people of the town. The plotline was well thought out and kept moving which I liked. For me this was a departure from the other Amy Clipston books, as I normally read her Amish stories. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
Imagine a teenager who clearly loves the Twilight Saga decides to write a book about actual adults- 28 and 33- making actual real-life decisions. This is that book. Written with Twilight's same melodrama and theatrics but without the redeeming inclusion of vampires and werewolves. All we've got here are a handyman, a traveling nurse, and some real estate agents. These characters are not believable at all. Even if they had been believable, I wouldn't trust any of them to make a well-reasoned decision to save their lives. Including, as it turns out, the dead godmother. The continual physical descriptions of everyone's hotness is over the top. In addition, toward the end there were repeated mentions of the godmother being their guardian angel. Can you get any less theologically accurate, Thomas Nelson? Zondervan? Drivel like this is borderline irresponsible. My opinion is, perhaps, influenced by the teeny bopper voices in the audio narration by Melissa Moran. Gag me with a spoon. Yes, I went there. Thanks to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio and Netgalley for providing a free audio-arc in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Amy Clipston is one of my very favorite authors. I have read all of her books at this point, and I look forward to all of her new releases. She's primarily known for her Amish fiction (which I love), but for the last few years, she has been writing contemporary Christian/clean romances. This book had no faith content or Christian elements that I could find, but it was a clean read.
This book follows Cade and Everleigh, two very different people who have each inherited half of the Sunshine Inn after Everleigh's aunt who owned it left it to them in her will. Everleigh wants to sell the inn and Cade wants to keep it, so they clash at first.
This book was very much an "opposites attract" situation and definitely reminded me of a Hallmark movie. (I happen to love Hallmark movies, so that is totally a compliment.) Cade had major Tyler Hynes energy as well and even rode a motorcycle just like Tyler!
I don't want to get too spoilery, but both Everleigh and Cade are dealing with family issues and I liked seeing the two of them bond and open up to each other about them. Cade in particular has some trust issues and I liked that Everleigh brought him out of his shell a bit.
I loved the setting of this book! It is set in the same charming North Carolina town as the other clean contemporary romances this author has written. I loved seeing the charm of the small town and of course the beach and coastal vibes.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I can't wait to see what this author will write next! You can be sure I will be reading it.
Also, Hallmark Channel needs to adapt this one - hopefully with Tyler!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Second Chance at Sunshine Inn is a sweet, slow-burn love story filled with warmth, humor, and just the right touch of emotional depth.
Everleigh Hartnett, a free-spirited NICU nurse, inherits half of a cherished coastal inn from her godmother, as introduced in the novel. Aiming to sell her share and finally realize a cherished dream, she encountered an obstacle: Cade Witherspoon, the rough, brooding co-owner, who fiercely protected his only home. Their meeting ignites an immediate conflict, fueled by opposing personalities and strong wills, rather than romance.
The contrast between Everleigh and Cade is what makes this book so good. Everleigh’s vibrant energy and sunny outlook perfectly complement Cade’s quiet, practical approach. Their witty exchanges, undeniable chemistry, and heartwarming evolution from rivals to something deeper are a treat to watch. The inn’s future is explored alongside themes of second chances, healing, and community.
Clipston masterfully blends lighthearted romance with heartfelt emotion, using Cade’s brother and a developer as key elements. The conflict and growth from these elements make the resolution even more satisfying.
Readers who enjoy sweet, emotionally resonant small-town romances will adore Second Chance at Sunshine Inn. It’s a cozy, uplifting read that proves sometimes, the best things in life come from unexpected partnerships.
I want to check in at Sunshine Inn and visit Coral Cove! I love books set in beach towns, they are so relaxing to me.
This book was filled with all of the things that I enjoy--romance, drama, family relationships, etc.
Alana reminded me of my grandma. Alana loved those around her deeply and was such an encouragement to those that were in her life.
I loved the juxtaposition between Cade and Everleigh. He was kind of grumpy and rough around the edges and she was filled with sunshine. Yet he was filled with so much compassion for others.
The family relationships added a little bit of drama to the story and made me yearn for restoration.
Another great story by this author!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
Cade and Everleigh were thrown together after both inheriting a B&B but their hearts were not on the same page. Everleigh had her own idea of what she wanted to do with the Inn and Cade wanted the total opposite.
This books delves into grief and moving on from grief. Everleigh really wanted to honor her Godmothers wishes but sometimes time and a heart change can make the most stubborn hearts turn to sunshine.
