Wow! This prayer book truly helps with literally any situation or season you're in! I knew I wanted to read this the moment I saw it. I love starting my day sitting with God. This has helped with that. Not only that, I find myself reaching for it throughout the day or even in the evenings when I'm dealing with stress or needing a quick pick me up. It truly has prayers for any moment. I love the cover and inner pages, it's such a breathtaking looking little prayer book! Absolutely wonderful and powerful!
I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. However, all of the statements above are my own true opinions after using this prayer book and reading it.
This small, hardcover gift book features one hundred prayers for tough moments in life. In the introduction, Cristina Baker shares her personal testimony about learning that God truly hears her and listens to her prayers, and she wrote the prayers in this book to help guide readers into deeper communion with God, and to give them words to pray when they struggle to know what to say. The one-page prayers are general enough to apply to lots of people, while also being deep and heartfelt.
Someone can read straight through this book, or can pick prayers specifically for the situation they're dealing with at the moment. The table of contents lists each prayer, and they all have identifiable titles like, "when you struggle with the darkness of this world" or "when you need to make a decision." The prayers also appear within thematic categories. Each category has an introduction from the author, and there are also other written reflections with Bible verses shared throughout the book.
The prayers themselves also use Scripture, drawing on phrases and ideas from the Bible. This biblical grounding enriches each prayer, and can help readers learn how to use Scripture to talk to God when they are praying independently. I also like that this book uses endnotes instead of parentheses to identify the reference for each Bible passage, because that helps maintain the flow as you're reading. My one critique is that the prayers sometimes seem repetitive, especially since some of the topics addressed here have significant overlap. However, if someone is reading through the book at a slower pace or in a more selective way, this may not bother them.
This is an encouraging guide for people who are learning how to pray, or who are looking for simple, Scripture-focused prayers that they can use to talk to God when they feel too overwhelmed to formulate words on their own. The author's testimony and faithful, Christ-focused prayers will bless many people, and this book is full of encouraging truths.
I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
