Jesus Listens for Christmas: 25 Prayers and Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young
Jesus Listens for Christmas is a tender children’s Advent devotional designed to help young readers (roughly ages 4–8) and their families slow down and focus on the meaning of Jesus’ birth as Christmas approaches. Across 25 prayers and short devotions, each day pairs Scripture verses, heartfelt reflections, and simple activities that tie into the nativity story and the prophecies surrounding Christ’s coming, all brought to life with heartwarming, wintry illustrations. The book encourages kids to anticipate Christmas with calm, joyful attention and to build treasured family traditions of prayer and scripture reading during Advent.
What really charmed me was how inviting the format feels for families: each devotion is gentle and accessible without talking down to children, and the activities make the themes of hope, love, peace, and wonder tangible in everyday moments. Reading it felt like gathering around a warm fire in the midst of a busy season, helping young hearts grasp that Christmas is ultimately about Jesus with us.
Rating: 5 out of 5, for its uplifting, child-friendly approach to Advent and meaningful spiritual reflection.
Jesus Listens For Christmas - 25 prayers and devotions for Kids - Sarah Young.
A lovely Advent daily devotional for middle grade kids or a family with younger kids who might need explanations, this charmingly illustrated book by Sarah Young is the perfect gift for a young person, or even an adult, new Christian.
Written in simple, child like language, it illustrates faith, trust, joy, peace, love in Jesus and how to grow in these attributes, by making Him a part of our daily lives, rather than just a part of a special devotional time. Young shows how eager Jesus is to be invited and included in our daily activities; he listens to all we tell him like a loving parent or elder brother but far better, because he answers our all prayers, doubts and questions in his time. No prayer is too insignificant and nothing is too small or silly to pray about to Jesus. There are no "adult, mature, sensible, preferred" prayers on momentous topics as opposed to "childlike, small, insignificant, unimportant" prayers. Jesus listens and responds to all. Indeed, I have a sn,eaking suspicion he prefers childlike prayers uttered with a child's faith and trust in him.
This is perfect for schools, Sunday schools, church libraries, homes - anywhere whlere young chidren and adult children congregate. I was given an ARC copy to read, but the opinions are my own.
Jesus Listens for Christmas: 25 Prayers and Devotions for Kids is another excellent production by Sarah Young. Designed in a gentle Advent style, each day invites children into a meaningful rhythm of the season with: • A heartfelt prayer • A simple activity or thoughtful reflection • A corresponding Advent Bible reading
The daily format is perfect for gathering as a family, incorporating crafts or hands-on activities, and focusing hearts on Jesus throughout the Christmas season. Whether used at the breakfast table, during homeschool time, or around the dinner table, this devotional helps create a peaceful and purposeful countdown to Christmas.
A wonderful tool for nurturing a child’s faith and reminding them that Jesus listens—and loves—every day of Advent and beyond.

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and I’m so glad I did. I sat down and read it myself and can’t wait to give it to my twin grandsons to have this coming Christmas. (And many more ahead) The author has done a wonderful job writing heartfelt prayers for each day of Advent. When reading them to, or with, a child this book should really help children understand more about Jesus and what Christmas is all about. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful too. Frame worthy.
I won this book in a Goodreads.com giveaway. This is my honest opinion of this book.
I love this book. It is not just for kids - everyone would enjoy reading it. The illustrations are delightful and add so much to the book. Each of the days listed in the book includes a devotional, a related activity or thoughtful reflections and Bible reading. It reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas.
A 25 day devotional for kids for advent. Starts with a verse each day, followed by a prayer, and then an activity. Listed at the bottom are verses for daily Advent Bible reading. Also has sweet illustrations interspersed throughout. The activities are fun and age appropriate. I would say ages 4-5 and up.
Thanks to Tommy Nelson for the digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
