Everything he was to become happened near a small creek in rural Virginia…When two teenage boys first meet their worlds are falling apart. Dare, a farrier’s son is struggling to survive bullying in school and abuse at home. James's wealthy father lies dying in the big house leaving him an orphan in the care of his uber-wealthy grandmother. Together, with a foundling dog, a down-on-her-luck prostitute, and an English butler--a gentleman with surprising talents--the young men traverse the daunting world of teenage boys coming-of-age.Neither youth is aware their friendship will be the catalyst that dredges up long suppressed secrets. Secrets on such a scale it becomes a deadly game.
I could not put this book down. It was an emotional roller-coaster of hurt and betrayal. Dare deserved to become whole again. Some plots were unexpected. Well written.
I really loved this book (read it in a day!). I was completely drawn into the lives of Dare and James. Two boys from very different families that forge a powerful friendship that bonds them for life. I found myself so moved by what their connection means to both of them. Dare's horrific family life makes James his savior. But despite James being completely loved, Dare is no less a savior to him in return. The final few chapters really pulled me in. I definitely recommend this book!
It has been a long time since I finished a book of this size in 24 hours. I WS caught up in the life of the characters. The instant bond between James and Dare was obvious. Lack of trust really causes more problems than it avoids although nobody can fault Dare. I loved that I figured out part of the history but was happy that I didn't figure it all out. I will say that I finished this awesome book with tears running down my face
Most of the books I read are suspense thrillers and this one did not let me down. It kept me spellbound with the twists and turns, not wanting to put it down I read it in a day! It had a happy\sad\happy ending and had me in tears of joy! Great reading.
I would like to give this book at least seven stars, if I could!!!!! Such an enjoyable read . This book had a little bit of everything. I highly recommend this book. I simply loved it.
I guess everyone has known a Dare in their lifetime. Someone who comes from a bad home life. The story really was a good one. I encourage everyone to give it a read.
Enjoyed it....easy read...Sharp and entertaining .Would and will tell friends to read it .Suspenseful, yet touching story that could easily be turned into a movie.
