The Powered Project : Ash and Storm

Rate this book
The Project Series Book 2

“Since 1998, the number of powered children born yearly has increased by 1% (Furden J. Et al. 2017).”

Ashton Black, a young woman with a blog and a habit for running before things get bad, is stuck. Labeled a conspiracy theorist, villain sympathizer, and worse, her blog on the doings of the heroes and villains of New York City, made more accurate thanks to her eidetic memory, keeps her lights on and food on the table. It also keeps her blacklisted from ever working for a serious news outlet.

To make things worse, her articles have begun to feel stale. Fight after fight, fallen building after fallen building, she has run out of even the hard questions about the heroes, not just the villains, to shock and draw readers in.

That is until she meets Storm, New York City’s first and scariest villain. When they’re forced to work together, and he begins to open up, they uncover a city-wide conspiracy that the villain is unwittingly at the center of—and now Ashton is too. Unable to see the threat until it is already on top of them, Ashton and Storm will have to work together to try and unplug him from the system controlling him and his power.

“Since 2020, the number of powered forcibly created has increased by 100% (Black A. Et al. 2021).”

Considering the immense scope of Taylor’s storytelling & the amount of gut-wrenching dread she is capable of bringing to a fantasy stage, I find myself at home in the little slices of life her books manage to capture. The Powered Project: Ash and Storm is no exception. This much deeper dive into the world following her novel, The Stone Project, is immersive and colorful. Characters are nuanced and instill every single emotion on the spectrum in me. I’m so excited for more people to discover how Vaughan paints with her words and fall in love with her characters.

Oh man! Let's talk about it!
First of all, Storm is such an impeccable character, like everything about him is just *🤌*
Besides that, this story overall was so easy to get sucked into. The power dynamics, the reveals, the romance (AH!) everything about this sequel was everything I could've asked for and more, and I cannot wait until book three!

The characters were well written and I could see myself rereading this book(especially Ashton’s attempt at an ambush). Our main villain is awesome and the twist is unexpected on who they are. Love it! Another wonderful job by the author!
