Starting Over with Her Christmas Surprise

Rate this book
Cameron planned the perfect escape: ten quiet days in a remote Adirondack cabin, far from holiday chaos and her friends’ cozy couple celebrations. No small talk. No matchmaking. No compromises. Just her, a stack of groceries, and blessed solitude.

Sean Williamson had other plans. The bestselling author has spent every Christmas tucked into that very cabin, finishing his manuscripts in peace. But this year, a double booking—and a fast-moving blizzard—means his sanctuary is already occupied. By a stubborn stranger who refuses to give up her claim.

Neither will back down. With no cell service, no internet, and the storm sealing every exit, Cameron and Sean are forced into a reluctant truce. Days stretch into nights of candlelit card games, crackling fires, and unguarded moments that slip past their defenses. She never expected to find warmth in his steady presence. He never thought sharing space could spark more inspiration than solitude ever did.

But when boundaries blur and attraction ignites, both must face the truths they’ve been avoiding: Cameron fears losing her independence. Sean fears losing control. And unless they can learn to stop protecting their hearts long enough to risk them, the greatest gift of all might slip away with the snow.

Starting Over with Her Christmas Surprise is a steamy, witty, snowbound holiday romance with forced proximity, only-one-bed tension (when the power goes out!), and all the warmth of a happily ever after. It’s the third book in the Starting Over Trilogy, but can be read as a stand-alone. Readers interested in reading the trilogy are encouraged to read in order, though it is not necessary.

Heat Level - (5 Out of 10) Steamy: Multiple sex scenes described in explicit detail. Moderate intimacy. Sexual tension. Moderate-to-strong language.

This story contains no cheating and guarantees a happily-ever-after ending that is sure to satisfy. Coming November 3rd, 2025 exclusively to Amazon (including Kindle Unlimited).

“I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review”

If you enjoy a slow burn romance novel, then this holiday story is perfect for you! The author did a great job setting up the tone and building the tension of the main characters. You can definitely feel the push and pull of both characters fighting to hold onto their individuality and the reluctance to show vulnerability. While at times I felt that the push and pull of emotions was drawn out, it was still a nice read. If you want to savor the moment and dig into thoughts of your characters, this is book for you.

Tropes: Forced proximity • Snowed-in cabin • He falls first • Dual loneliness • Slow burn holiday romance

If you’ve read the first two books in the Starting Over series then you already know our FMC, Cameron.  She's Kinsley’s best friend and Brienne’s ride-or-die. She’s been the steady, supportive one for everyone else’s happily-ever-afters… but now that the holidays are coming, she needs a break from being surrounded by all that joyful couple energy. So she escapes to a remote cabin in the Adirondacks for a quiet, drama-free Christmas. Except the universe has other plans. When she arrives, she’s immediately faced with the harsh winter elements. Then, later that night, another guest arrives at the cabin. Enter our MMC Sean, a bestselling author who insists that he rented the cabin too. Cameron eventually allows him in after he proves he's not a murderer.  So now they’re stuck together. In a blizzard. In a two-bedroom cabin. With questionable cell service. And absolutely zero intention of catching feelings.

The first half of the book is pure slow-burn forced proximity: shared meals, light banter, card games, decorating for Christmas, keeping the fire going, sleeping in separate rooms until the power finally goes out. Three or four days in, they’re forced to sleep on the pull-out couch together to stay warm, and that’s when the shift happens. Sean is already crushing hard especially after an (accidental) post-shower walk-in moment that he does not recover from. Cameron is also starting to succumb to his charm.

This book is a slow burn in the truest sense, but when they finally connect, it is definitely worth the wait. What really makes this story beautiful is that both Cameron and Sean are people who’ve built their lives around structure, solitude, and keeping their hearts safe. There’s a quiet loneliness behind everything they do. Watching them thaw toward each other both literally and emotionally is tender, sweet, and deeply satisfying. Natasha Dubois writes connection so beautifully, and this book fits perfectly with the warmth of the first two books.

If you prefer a soft, cozy, low to mid-spice holiday romance, this one is absolutely for you. It’s heartfelt, wintery, funny in all the right moments, and wraps up the trilogy with the perfect Christmas glow. Highly recommend reading all three.

Starting over with her Christmas surprise is the 3th romance novel in this trilogy from Natasha Dubois.

Cameron planned an escape, a getaway from the chaos, friends' cozy couple celebrations. No matchmaking, small talks and no compromises. So she booked a cabin for herself for 10 days.

Sean had different plans. As a best selling author he has spent every Christmas in that very cabin, so he could finish his manuscripts in peace.

But this year the cabin was booked double. This stranger was stubborn and did not want to give up her claim. With the storm sealing every exit, no cell phone service and no internet, Cameron and Sean are forced into a truce.

Natasha her writing makes it easy to read the book without wanting to stop. The way she made the characters come to life is just awesome. Specially when Cameron and Sean are talking to eachother, just love this. You really get to know the characters wel. Also the describing how the cabin looks inside, the snowfall outside is like I would imagine it al.

I loved this novel from beginning to end. Even this is the first book of this trilogy I read, I gonne read the others to. I recommend her books for al Christmas mixed with romance lovers.

4-4.5 stars!

I truly enjoyed reading this book! It was an easy read with wonderful character development! The author did such a good job of describing the scenery in such a way that made you feel like you were in the story itself.

Sean and Cameron both book a 10 day cabin retreat around Christmas time to take a break from life and have some alone time. Only there was a mistake, and they end up being booked in the same cabin. With a blizzard coming, and the internet and phones not working, Sean and Cameron had to stay in the cabin together.

I absolutely loved the storyline of this book. You could feel the tension between Sean and Cameron. I loved the banter that was shared back and forth. The intimate scenes were well written (not like the spicy scenes you may be used to). Even the intimate scenes were written very tastefully. From the moment I started the book I wanted to know how the story between these two would end.

Thank you, Natasha, for allowing me to read your book!

I liked that Cameron made Sean sit outside in the blizzard for a long time (he didn´t get in to the cabin until page 68), thats hillarius!
After he got in, they were quite frosty towards eachother, understandably.
It was Sean who reached out a hand first, after he saw Cameron naked. I like how he tried to woo her with breakfast and gifts. It was really cute. Their connection in the bedroom was steamy, and Sean was just so focused on her pleasure. I really liked that he didn´t rush her climax, he was just steadily there and kept delivering until he got her there. Good work man!

The writing and the story is good! At times the description "fluff" gets a bit much and I catch myself drifting away from the words. But overall its a good book! I got those little heart pangs when they made up and thats always nice! <3

I really loved this book! It was an easy read from start to finish and had really nice character development and scenery. I love books that describe the scene well. I truly felt myself becoming submerged in the story.

Cameron and Sean end up confined in a pretty log cabin for the Christmas/New Year period. An error at the booking company. With the blizzard closing in and no internet or phone access they end up having to stay here together.

Even though initial parts of this story might feel predictable, the Author writes them with included reluctance on the part of the main characters. There is real tension throughout and whatever happens in the story is through hard work, not just surrendering.

I loved the characters, their own complexities and histories helped me really understand them along the way. I enjoyed the spice, it was well written and engaging.

I highly recommend this as a holiday read. It's quick, engaging, deep and fun all at the same time.

Natasha, girl, you did it again! I love Sean and Cameron! They are unlike any fiction couple I've ever read. Their banter is everything! They are both very stubborn, strong willed characters. They are set in their ways and no one will change that....relatable.
This book had so much more inner dialogue than person to person dialogue (which I normally don't like, but it worked really well) that you really get into Sean and Cameron's heads and feel what they're feeling. Really sucks you in!
And the short appearance of Aunt Tilly, icing on the cake! Gotta love her!
This book was spicy, but it was a passionate and sweet. You could really feel the depth of their feelings for each other.
Thank you again, Natasha! I'm so sad this trilogy is over, but I am very excited for Wild Emerald Hills!

Forced proximity & Slow burn

I loved this! 🎄

Sean and Cameron both book a 10 day cabin retreat to take a break from life and have some alone time. Only there was a mistake and they end up being booked in the same cabin.

This story was really cute. I enjoyed it. The writing was great. Even the intimate scenes were written very tastefully. Very different from the same old spicy scenes. The characters are so lovable too! The banter was amazing. From the moment I started the book I wanted to know how the story between these two would evolve.

Loved this book!!! Your solitary 10-day retreat has been over-booked by the management company. You are now stuck with an arrogant best selling author for 10 days. Enter the slow-burn romance. I love when Aunt Tilly shows up on her snowmobile!! I adore this character so much!! She pops in, has tea, and then leaves her predictions on her way out. I could read stories about this couple and the couples from the first two books in the series all day long!!! If you haven’t read the first two books, they are a must read!!! Love this author!!!

A first for me from this author and I am now a fan. I was pulled in the forced proximity trope, with a stranger too. Bonus. The heat goes out one night and they are forced to share a bed to conserve heat. I'm all for it. At first Sean was hard to like personality wise, but I did really warm up to him. I traditionally don't really like third person POV (I knew it was this going into it) but it really worked well in this book. Cameron and Sean just flow, almost seamlessly. I real quick enjoyable read.

I had a good time reading this! The banter between Sean and Cameron was so funny. I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire first half of the book! Their chemistry was great and the tension was so good. The second half of the book took a turn from the witty back and forth to the characters developing true feelings and emotions for one another. There was also depth to the story and to the character development that I really enjoyed!

*Thank you to the author for the ARC- all opinions are my own.

This is the 3rd book in this trilogy and I’ve read them all! I really enjoyed the characters in this book!!

Her keeping him outside in the cold, him seeing her completely naked right out of the gate, the tension.. I enjoyed it all!

Natasha has a very different and distinct writing pattern that I really enjoy! If you like depth and detail, this story is for you (and her others)! It’s a slow burn and it takes awhile for the spice but it’s good when it gets there!

Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (2.5) again not a lot of spice but what was there was great!!

All I can say is this book had me hooked from the beginning. I wanted to see what would happen when two strangers meet and their lives are changed after their unexpected encounter. They are both stuck together in a snowy cabin with no communication to the outside world at times. I love how the author mentions Montana a few times in the book as it is my home. You definitely need to read this story and see how the story ends. Is it a match made in heaven or is it doomed for failure?

Review based on the ARC.

All about this story is cozy sprinkled with spicy. 🤭🔥

Cameron and Sean went through a double-booked cabin incident in christmas season in the middle of a snowy blizzard.
With witty bantering and snarky comebacks they find a way to get along with each other until they fall for each other.

The best tropes I read in this book:
🌲 Forced proximity
✨ Only one bed
🌲 Slow burn

Plot: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Spicy: 🌶️🌶️ (2/5)

Omgosh this book was great! Nothing like being snowed in in a double booked cabin. Both seeking solitude. I loved how neither of them were about to give up the cabin. Then a snow storm, and poof, they’re stick together. The battle of sharing space was amusing. I loved the banter and then the spark of attraction. Sharing the same bed…oh my! I loved the forced proximity and the spice was just right. So far I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve read from Natasha, and I can’t wait to read more.

As a first time ARC reader I was so excited to get to dive into this book. When a double booked 10 day cabin retreat, snowstorm, and witty banter combine, it makes the perfect storm - pun intended. Sean and Cameron make the perfect holiday flame to kick off your holiday season reading. My only wish? That there was more of them! Their chemistry was so great and the holiday flare made it so cozy and hard to put down.

This is an excellent book with heartwarming characters that had me right there inside that cabin as the story unfolds. You can feel the tension stirring and the boundaries forming as the storm is brewing taking away all of their possibilities to escape from each other leaving a truce where they have to give in and work together. I loved how their relationship evolves and the outcome between them.

I have been looking forward to Cameron’s book for so long. I knew soon as i was hooked i was going to love this story Natasha did not disappoint at all with this one. The FMC Cameron goes on a holiday for some peace and quite and alone time. She sure as did not get that alone time welcome the MMC Sean who also wanted alone time so he could finish his book in peace and quite. Turns out they both booked the same cabin. I loved seeing their relationship blossom and usually i am not the biggest fan of a slow burn but i loved this one. Sean gets bonus points for what he did for Cameron Xmas morning. This book is definitely worth the read such a great book.

I received this book as an arc in return for my honest review.

This is a good Christmas romance. It is a forced proximity read. It is very entering with good banter. It has one of the best written sex scenes that I have read in quite a while. It is nice to see an author who just doesn't write the same old sex scene with the same old dialogue. I am sure you will enjoy this book.

Loved Cameron and Sean. Cameron wants a peaceful time and when Sean turns up at the cabin both have doubled booked causes all plans to go out the window.
Throw in a blizzard and two very stubborn people, a truce is needed. Card games start into other games.
A aunts appears brings more humour, the spice and romance is brilliant.

ARC Review: I Received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I loved this Christmas romance and the tension between the two. You have your stubbornness and brought banter and also an enemies to lovers. Both wanted to escape to a cabin over Christmas and to find out that there was a mishap in the bookings only made this even better. I could not put this down I wanted to know what happened next.
