This book is like getting three books in one. Bird watchers will love the whimsical conversations between the author and thirteen different birds in the first section. The middle sections gets serious with eighteen heartfelt poems touching on important subjects such as loss, aging, and the importance of being present. The third section contains thirty-five short essays. These are personal and so well written. The themes such as family and relationships are universal and relatable while the author's interesting Mennonite upbringing in rural Kansas makes for fascinating reading.
This book is different from my usual reading preferences. I like to race through fiction books as quickly as possible. Books I love are read over and over.
Michelle’s book invites a slower pace, a desire to pause and ponder between each vignette, poem and story.
What shines through to the reader are the qualities and experiences that shape our lives. The simple strand of love woven throughout the book resonates deeply.
Take your time with this one. It’s a Sunday afternoon stroll through memory lane.
