Full disclosure: I’m the author.
I wrote this one as a bookend to my Rondo-nominated CHANEY’S BABY, which deals with actor Lon Chaney, Jr.’s attempted suicide in 1948. I wanted to write about a happier time in Chaney’s life, and this is it—late 1940, when Universal “auditions” him for a longterm contract in MAN MADE MONSTER.
This, of course, leads to screen immortality in THE WOLF MAN.
I found the story—and the people—to be fascinating. George Waggner. Anne Nagel. Samuel S. Hinds. Lionel Atwill. And Chaney’s father, who always loomed large in his son’s life. I think this book does them all justice.
Initial reviews for this new book are excellent. I hope fans of Classic Horror enjoy this latest effort.
