Unshaken is suspenseful, edgy, and full of action. A young Amish girl, Stephanie, witnesses the murder of a drug dealer by a gang member candidate. She is thrown into the English world when a women, Bev, grabs her before she can be shot too. From there, the story is fast moving as she is sent away to stay on a ranch to be protected by Bev's brother Hardy. Steph's life is not great with her uncle and aunt so she is blown away by the kindness she is shown, especially by Hardy. Sweet and heartwarming story. I read via Libby.

“Don’t you think that God has your back? Don’t you think God is big enough to hold on to your worries for you?”

Author Shelley Shepard Gray writes to show us the difficulty when the place we consider a refuge (home in a small town Amish settlement) becomes the most dangerous place of all.

Twenty-three-year-old Stephanie Miller witnesses a murder and is saved by a quick-thinking passerby. Bev Anderson, a social worker, understands the gravity of the situation and the importance of grabbing Stephanie, a complete stranger, and driving her to safety. Bev knows that the killer or his handler won’t give up searching for Stephanie, the only eyewitness, until she’s been silenced.

What would you do if you could never go home again? Or at least while a killer is on the loose.

Stripped of everything she identifies with, “dressed like an Englisher”, far from family and running scared, she’s sent to Bev’s brother for safe-keeping. We need more Hardy’s in this world!

I appreciated Gray’s focus on the lengths we’ll go to feel ‘belonging’, the importance of being accepted for who you are, the necessity of caring for yourself before reaching out to help others, and the weight of risk and our choices.

Two things I’ll remember:
1. Gratitude and happiness didn’t always walk hand in hand
2. Make a decision to be different from who you were the moment before.

I love that Stephanie finds relaxation in The Love Boat reruns - me, too!

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray had me spellbound from the first page. A young Amish woman witnesses a murder and goes into hiding. Her protector is a former military man who hides her away in another state. Stephanie is so scared and traumatized that Hardy becomes this gentle giant and takes such sweet care of her. There are other likable characters and a second romance too. I really enjoyed this book! I especially loved the epilogue!! I recommend it to any Amish readers who love suspense and mystery.
*I was given a copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion.

I always love Shelley Shepard Gray’s books, but I especially love it when she delves into romantic suspense with an Amish twist. So, Gray’s latest Crittenden County romantic suspense, Unshaken – which checks all of those boxes – is right up my alley!

Stephanie Miller is a resilient young Amish woman who is treated like Cinderella by her guardians but, like that classic fairy tale heroine, she maintains a sweet and gracious spirit in spite of it. Needless to say though, she isn’t expecting her dollar store run to turn into a run for her life. But after witnessing a murder in broad daylight and being rescued by a Good Samaritan, she is forced to blend into the Englisch world, at least temporarily, and rely on strangers to protect her. Something made a little bit easier – and simultaneously more difficult – by the fact that the Good Samaritan’s handsome, ex-military brother is her new protector. There’s something about Gray’s tough-but-protective heroes that is so swoony, and Hardy is the top of the list. I got all gooey over him with his first amused half-smile in Stephanie’s direction, crushed on him a little more when he starts feeling all proprietary over her protection, but I really fell for him while he and Stephanie are watching TV together. That scene is so cute and sweet for several reasons, not the least of which is that we get to see his softer side & his sense of humor. In fact, if you’re thinking now that you might want to read the book just to discover that scene, I wouldn’t even blame you.

Another reason I enjoyed Unshaken involves the focus of the opening prologue – Timothy. The author weaves his perspective into the story at different intervals, a technique I thought added to the suspenseful tension as well as the overall emotional depth. It’s a good reminder that no one is only what we see externally but rather an intricate system of layers made up of our backstories, our fears, our hopes and dreams, our faith (or lack thereof), how loved we feel (or don’t) and our current circumstances. I truly had no idea how his story would end up, and Gray does a great job of bringing it to a resolution that is just as emotionally complex as his role in the story as a whole.

Bottom Line: Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray had me fully invested from the prologue to the epilogue and is my new fave of her recent releases. Stephanie and Hardy are a delightful pair of characters to spend time with, and watching them fall in love made me smile. Hardy’s past may have made him an intimidating presence but Gray gives him an endearing soft side around Stephanie and I adored the combination. The suspense delivered some of my favorite elements – like forced proximity and witness protection – and it’s done in such a layered way that I even felt sympathy for one of the antagonists. Unshaken was truly a pleasure to read in every way!

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray. Stephanie Miller is an Amish girl who witnesses a murder after she finished shopping at the dollar store for her supplies. Bev is a social worker who is driving by at that moment and sees one of her kids that she tried to help, Timothy, with the gun in his hand. Bev calls her brother Hardy to help hid her from the gang that Timothy joined. The suspense will keep you reading. Wondering if they will find her. How far is the reach of a gang? Can a compound with top security and ex military men keep her safe? Thank you to #NetGalley and #Revell for this Arc. This is my honest review. Release date is June 3 2025

Unshaken is an entertaining, captivating romantic suspense read. The steadily paced, well-crafted plot with its foreboding sense of danger kept me engaged and anxious to find out what the future holds for Stephanie Miller whose quiet Amish life has been upended by a wrong place, wrong time situation! A memorable and emotionally impactful cast of characters drives the story. I admire the way Hardy, Bev, and Carter work together, without hesitation, to protect Stephanie who is a stranger to them. Even though Timothy made some terribly poor choices in his life, I felt compassion for him. I appreciate the gentle faith thread and how Stephanie, with great resilience, came to trust God for the future he had planned for her. Sweet romance adds a touching layer of interest to the story. I enjoyed this story and recommend it as a well-worth-your-time read.

Amish books aren't something I read often, though I do have a few of the author's earlier books in my kindle that I haven't gotten to yet and need to hurry and do so. That said, I really enjoyed finally reading one of Ms. Gray's books for the first time. "Unshaken" has a heavier romance thread, and one thread that was two people with feelings for one another hanging out a couple of times. Honestly, I can always do without a romance thread in books, but in this one it wasn't so heavy that it turned me off. The author did a good job of weaving the romance and suspense aspects in a way that they balanced each other well.

My favorite part was the suspense thread. I'm a huge thriller lover, so nothing ever keeps me up at night. The suspense aspect was enough to keep me turning the pages to see what would happen next, but its light enough that the average reader won't need to worry about it keeping them up at night.

There are nice sprinkles of Christian themes throughout the book, and I liked that the author didn't bonk the reader over the head with unnaturally heavy doses of it. Again, the author is skilled at keeping that balance.

I look forward to checking out more of the author's books soon. I highly recommend "Unshaken."

When a young Amish woman witnesses a murder, she is quickly whisked away from her everyday life to live under protection on a ranch far from her home. Bev, a social worker, sees what happened and decides immediately to send young Stephanie to her brother who lives and works on a ranch with a gate guard and ranch hands to protect her. Bev’s brother Hardy works for the wealthy ranch owner Carter and both men served in the military together. While Stephanie is on the ranch, she has to be on her guard, watching for possible danger, but she is also relaxed for the first time since her parents died and left her to live with her demanding aunt and uncle. I really enjoyed Stephanie’s dynamic growth of self-discovery in this novel as well as her growing independence and enjoyment of many things that most individuals take for granted, like snacks and TV shows. I especially liked the way the relationship between Hardy and Stephanie developed. He is a hero but not a particularly handsome one, just one who is willing and capable. The second developing romance was a pleasant and additional surprise. The danger is real as there is a gang of killers who want Stephanie dead, but Hardy is devoted to safeguarding her. I liked the way the action intensified and the drama increased at the same time. I also liked the way the author brought all of the threads of the plot together and concluded it all in a satisfactory way that made me glad that I read the story. This is a book not to be missed by fans of Amish fiction combined with romantic suspense.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½🐎✝️

My thoughts: 📱23% 1:46:24 Chapter 7 - This is already better than the previous books. I'm enjoying this series and Amish Suspense, I hope it continues.
📱64% 4:51:01 Chapter 21 - It's a little slower on the action and the gang's intentions but otherwise, this is great.

This was pretty good. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the Hallmarky vibe killed the suspense.

Recommend to others?: Yes! I'm looking forward to more of these stories, they're very cozy.

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray is a thrilling Amish Contemporary Fiction that will have your heart pounding from the first page.

Stephanie Miller barely escapes with her life when she witnesses a drug deal gone wrong. Now she is a witness to a murder, and the killer is after her.

Hardy Anderson takes Stephanie under his wing and aims to keep her safe, but the killer has somehow learned of her whereabouts, and it’s all hands on deck to keep Stephanie safe.

I love Shelley Shepard Gray’s books. Her Amish books are unlike any I’ve ever read, as she keeps the mystery and action going from the beginning. Yes, there is romance and a faith element which makes this book have all the right stuff to keep you reading.

If you enjoy Amish Fiction, you will love Unshaken. I highly recommend it!

What a story! You have grit, suspense, and romance.

Stephanie, an Amish girl, witnesses a horrific murder while stopping at a store to buy her monthly treats. Another witness, Beverly, whisks her away from the scene. Beverly, a local social worker, knows the killing is gang related. Fearing for Stephanie’s life she sends her to her brother, Hardy, in Kentucky. Can Hardy protect Stephanie?

I liked the multi person view points. You see the situation from the gang initiate, Stephanie, and Hardy. Your heart goes out to all as life is never “simple” no matter if you’re Amish or English.

I received a complimentary copy from the author with no requirement to review in a positive manner. The above review is my own words.

It seems I’ve made the following statement a few times recently, but clearly my taste (and standards) for books is different from the masses.
Among the many glowing reviews for Shelley Shepard Gray’s “Unshaken” are descriptions like heart-pounding; page-turning; sitting on the edge of your seat.
Sorry, but I missed all of that.
The story reminded me a lot of the 1985 film “Witness” with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis. In the film, a young Amish boy witnesses a murder. Ford, a Philadelphia detective, upon uncovering corruption among the ranks, whisks the boy and his mother into hiding in their Amish community, where he is nursed back to health from a gunshot wound.
“Witness” was an excellent film.
“Unshaken” doesn’t rise to that level.
In “Unshaken” a 23-year-old Amish woman (Stephanie) witnesses a gang-related murder in southern Ohio, and is quickly rescued by Beverly, a social worker who knows the teenager who committed the shooting. She puts Stephanie – who lives with her very strict aunt and uncle following the death of her parents – on a bus to Nashville, where she’s met by Beverly’s younger brother Hardy, who proceeds to drive her to his boss’s (Carter) sprawling 2,000-acre cattle ranch to hide out.
Somehow, the young man (Timothy) who committed the shooting as part of a gang initiation test, recognizes his former social worker’s car, and (again) somehow is able to track them all the way to Carter’s ranch. It seems (and here’s where some of the narrative becomes hard to accept) at some point in the course of working with Timothy, Beverly divulged not only that her brother worked on this huge ranch, but also where it was located, and how it would be “easy to hide out there for a long time.”
Right! What social worker would tell all that to a young juvenile?
Meanwhile, the narrative plods predictably along as Stephanie and Hardy develop feelings for each other. Not to be outdone, Beverly and Carter also discover a mutual attraction. But the dialogue, especially between Stephanie and Hardy, is trite and repetitive. I quickly tired of Hardy reminding Stephanie that he was there to protect her, and Stephanie lamenting her life as a modern-day Cinderella in her aunt and uncle’s home.
Fortunately, the book is only about 280 pages, so it’s over quickly. And the ending wraps so fast it seems even the author wanted it over.
Two stars for “Unshaken.” It’s definitely uninspiring.

Another fast paced read, and I really enjoyed that this storyline was a little different. Stephanie Miller, a young Amish woman goes into town to purchase a few personal need items. When she is in the parking lot she witnesses a murder right in front of her eyes. Shocked, scared and unsure of what really just happened a woman screams at her to get into her vehicle. Stephanie is confused and not sure what to do, doesn’t someone need to call the police? A man is dying! But she does as this woman says, and realizes she herself has also been struck by a bullet. Bev being the social worker she is, takes control of the situation and realizes the danger that Stephanie is in. This wasn’t just a random shooting and now Stephanie and possibly her life is also in danger. With the help of her brother, Bev sends Stephanie to another state for protection until the police can figure things out, but with the body now missing and the shooter hot on Stephanie’s trail, no one seems to be safe. Stephanie can hardly believe what has happened to her in the last day and now she is hiding out at a large ranch in fear of her life. Her aunt and uncle will be so worried about her not being home to do her chores and help with the kids. As Stephanie navigates this new world she is in, she realizes just how much she is actually enjoying the English clothing, food and freedoms. She also has started to fall for Hardy, Bev’s brother, but that cannot happen and is this because he is like a hero to her? Will Hardy and the others on the ranch be able to keep her safe until the police can get to the bottom of what happened and arrest all of those involved? Thank you to the author and publisher for the complementary novel. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

Unshaken

I was completely caught off guard by this book from the first page with an Amish girl, Stephanie, going to the Dollar Store to get a few necessities. I don’t want to give away the story line too much but when she witnesses a murder right off, her life is thrown into a maze of happenings! Beverly, a social worker, shows up in the nick of time and gets her brother, Hardy to help her to hide Stephanie. Timothy & his gang, Broken Arrow, are trying to find her and you will find yourself so drawn into this story that you will have trouble putting this one down! You may as well set aside a day when you have all day to read. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did as you enter into the lives of Stephanie, Beverly, Timothy, Hardy and Carter. There are several other people but you will get to know them as you journey with them to protect and try to hide Stephanie. Will she make it back home? Maybe, Maybe not!

Unshaken is one of those stories that once you start it, it’s hard to put down. Shelley Shepard Gray does a wonderful job creating great characters and a captivating story line that makes you want to read just a little bit more. Watching Stephanie endure such a difficult life, then have to deal with something so unimaginable was heartbreaking. Thank goodness for Bev and her quick thinking under such a horrific tragedy. To watch Bev’s brother rise up to protect and keep Stephanie safe then witness their story unfold….just great story writing there. Another memorable story from Gray.

This book was a very suspenseful Amish book. An Amish girl witnesses a murder and is rescued by a social worker and she sends her to another state to be hidden until the murder is solved. Stephanie Miller has lived a very unhappy life because her parents died when she was very young and she lives with Some relatives who are not very nice to her. It is almost an Amish Cinderella story. There’s romance, there’s murder, and just an all-around good book.

Another engaging book in the series.

In Unshaken, Stephanie is living with her aunt and uncle after the death of her parents. She is living more as a housekeeper and caretaker than as a beloved member of the family. In her rare trip to a store, she witnesses a crime. Thankfully, there is a quick acting member of the community that helps her flee Ohio for the safety of a large ranch in Kentucky.

Unspoken is a Christian, Romantic Suspense that starts with Stephanie Miller, a young Amish woman, witnessing a murder. Stephanie is terrified, but she has help running from the scene to a safe place.

As the story unfolds, there are two budding romances that begin, along with plenty of twists to keep your interest.

Pick up this Shelley Shepard Gray book, I think you'll enjoy the read!

Review:

I enjoyed the fast-paced dynamic of this book! It was gripping with action and twists. Also, one moment at the end even made me slap a hand over my mouth in shock. I also liked the faith content. This was very well done, and I highlighted quite a few sections. Honestly, there were lines that I felt spoke to me in my current life situation. This was touching!

I gave this book three stars because I think I'm just getting pickier with romance and character development. I think these two parts of the story weren't my cup of tea, but that's okay! I think other readers might really enjoy the romance and the characters. For me, it just wasn't my particular favorite, but that's just my opinion!

Happy reading,

This book took me on such an adventure as Stephanie goes into "witness protection" after being a witness to a murder.

I loved how Hardy, Carter and Bev stepped up to protect a woman that was a complete stranger. The strength and courage that Stephanie displayed as she was separated from her Amish community was amazing.

It was hard to see the challenges of kids who were not supported adequately in the foster care system.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

What. Literally what.

I don't know how to start this review, honestly. I've never been particularly interested in suspense or anything like that. The only reason why I picked up this book was because Shelley Shepard Gray wrote it and it came out almost two months ago. Here I was thinking that she had most of the year to write C Is for Courting, maybe even more time than usual because both of its predecessors, A Is for Amish and B Is for Bonnet, were... uh... bad. Both stories were lackluster and the editing for B is for Bonnet is particularly egregious. I wanted to see how bad this book would be.

Not really? I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I quite liked it. Most of it, anyway.

The writing style had a few more fragments and sentences being on new lines for dramatic effect than I remembered in Mrs. Gray's previous books, and usually, I hate that writing style. I especially hate when Vannetta Chapman does it because it always makes her characters very flat and lifeless. That wasn't the case here with this book, though. Her characters came to life pretty easily. I liked Hardy the most. I would say that the reason for that is that he's on a mission and competent at his job, but I also liked reading from Timothy's perspective and he spends the entire book screwing things up. Maybe it's because he kinda reminded me of The Outsiders, which is my very favorite book ever. The fragmented-sentence writing style definitely worked in Timothy's favor the most since he's scared to death for most of the book and in a very unhealthy place, both physically and mentally.

I didn't like Stephanie right off the bat, but I warmed up to her as the story progressed. Her absolute refusal to talk to the police in the beginning of the book irked me. She doesn't like the police because they took her from her house to the station after her parents died, and that's kinda all the background that we get on that. Nothing else. If she had talked to the police, this story probably would have been over much quicker. Oh well. Beverly was alright. Carter was okay. I thought that the romance between those two was a little weird. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it. The whole date scene at the mansion restaurant felt very off-kilter. Read it and you'll know what I mean.

You know what I actually hated about this book the most, though? That climax. (Spoilers ahead; you have been warned.) Allow me to set the scene:

Hardy and Carter had gotten a call at two in the morning from Dan, a security guard, and said that Timothy was there and wanted to talk to Hardy. So they go and start to talk and Timothy says that he wants to help them because the gang is going to hurt Audrey, his ex-girlfriend about whom he still cares very much. But then they all get a call that there are security cameras down and part of the electric fence broken. Timothy says that there are two other gang members nearby. So Carter heads back to the main house where Beverly and Stephanie are waiting in the safe room in the basement while Hardy takes Timothy to another cabin to talk to him.

Carter gets to the safe room but then Dan walks out of the shadows and holds a knife against Stephanie. He's a scumbag, you see, because he gave Timothy Stephanie's location earlier in the book for only a hundred bucks. We then switch back to Hardy's perspective as he talks to Timothy for a little bit and then they both go back to the main house.
"Timothy, I want the men who came after you caught. When the sheriff arrives, I want him or one of the deputies to take you into custody. You need to pay for your crimes. But I don't want you to be killed while tied up. I don't want that on my shoulders."
Keep that line in mind because it will be important in a minute.

They head inside and find Kane, a gang member, there. Apparently, Audrey is somewhere else but still safe. You know what? Enough summary, let's just read the actual text...
"You need to set [Audrey] free, Kane."

"We can't do that until you come with us and we take care of the Amish girl."

"I don't know where she is."

"That's okay. She's right here with Dancer."

Hardy sucked in a breath as Dancer entered the room. The gang member had his arm around Stephanie's throat. There was already a trickle of blood dripping down.

Rage filled him. The guy had been playing with them. "No," he bit out.
I've read that last sentence five times and I still can't figure out what the heck it's supposed to mean. Who is "the guy" and how had he "played with them"? Who is "them"? Hardy and Timothy? Hardy and Carter and Stephanie and Beverly??
"Put the knife down!" Carter said as he appeared from a dark hallway. Everyone turned.

Hardy couldn't believe his eyes. "Where's Dan?" Dan should've seen the men on the security cameras.

"He's injured, I'm afraid," Carter said in a cold voice. Turning to Kane, he added, "When I realized that he not only turned off the electric fence but had been the one to tell Timothy about Stephanie, I told him that I was going to make sure that he rotted in prison for a long time. When he ignored my warning, I shot his kneecap. He's not going anywhere anytime soon." His gaze hardened as he focused on Dancer. "You'd best put the knife down before I do worse to you."

description

Dan had a knife against Stephanie's throat in the safe room, so Carter shot him in the kneecap and presumably Stephanie was free. Obviously. So how the fudge does Stephanie and Stephanie alone end up on the main floor of the house with a knife against her throat AGAIN? Isn't it so convenient of Carter to wait until Hardy and Timothy are both inside the house before he emerges from the shadows to give his threatening speech? Hardy, don't you have a gun? Why don't you shoot Dancer and Kane right now and get Stephanie out of danger? And hey, where's Beverly? Is she just chilling downstairs in the safe room? Why wasn't Stephanie with her? Do you mean to tell me that while Dan was lying on the floor of the safe room, having been shot through the kneecap, Carter spent a minute or two comforting Beverly while Stephanie just wandered upstairs and got herself caught or something??

Wait, I thought of something else. Stephanie is a target for murder. The gang wants her DEAD. Why is she a hostage? What does Kane have to gain from keeping Stephanie as a hostage instead of killing her right there on the spot as he's been trying to get Timothy to do for the whole length of the book? Rewind the clock to one minute earlier when Carter is still hiding in the shadows somewhere and Hardy and Timothy haven't arrived yet. This is the PERFECT time for them to kill Stephanie and flee. And don't give me an "oh, they were trying to lure Timothy over" argument. Bullcrap. Why in the world would that lure out Timothy? Wouldn't it make more sense to kill Stephanie and then take Audrey as a hostage instead? That would do it. But no, Audrey is safe and sound somewhere away from the property. Why would Kane tell Timothy that they wouldn't set Audrey free until Timothy came with them and Stephanie was "taken care of" (dead), then proceed to NOT kill Stephanie when she's literally in their grasp?

Why is everyone suddenly a moron?!

Hardy could barely hold himself together when Stephanie looked his way. Tears were in her eyes. Silently, he attempted to reassure her.

Then, as if she were in slow motion, she glanced at Timothy.

After meeting her gaze, Timothy charged forward and jumped Dancer. The knife clattered to the ground as Dancer fell. A gun went off.

Seconds later, Hardy subdued Kane, Stephanie was free, and Timothy Jones lay on the ground, dead.

description

Are you kidding? Are you KIDDING? WHAT THE FUDGE WAS THAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN, HE'S DEAD?!

I have so many questions...

What actually happened to Dancer? To my understanding, to jump someone is to attack him. Timothy had no weapons on him and it's not stated exactly how he attacked Dancer. The guy and the knife fell and that's all we know. He's not dead because it's stated after this excerpt that "Sheriff Johnson took in the gang members tied up, Timothy's dead body, and Stephanie's bleeding neck." So how was he injured? It's stated that Hardy restrained Kane, but there's no mention of Carter restraining Dancer. So...?

WHO SHOT TIMOTHY?! Surely it couldn't be Carter because Carter was there for the conversation when Timothy explained that he wanted to help Hardy in order to protect Audrey. And it wasn't Dancer because he had a knife on Stephanie. It can't have been Hardy himself because he wanted Timothy alive and said just a few pages ago, "I don't want you to be killed while tied up. I don't want that on my shoulders." (There is also zero description of Timothy's death and no thoughts from Hardy on the matter.) So that leaves us with Kane. But that can't be right. Why would Dancer be holding Stephanie hostage with a KNIFE if Kane has a much more efficient GUN on his person? (And again, why is Stephanie a HOSTAGE and not DEAD ALREADY?) So we don't know who shot Timothy. But what makes this more infuriating is that Mrs. Gray made it seem like Timothy would be heading toward a better place after this. He knows that he's been on the wrong track, he's turned himself in (pretty much) to protect Audrey, and he's read a little bit of the Bible. And Hardy said that he wanted Timothy to pay for his crimes and that he didn't want him to die.

AND THEN HE FUDGING DIES ANYWAY BY AN ANONYMOUS GUNSHOT?!

Moving on...

A week after that, Hardy takes Stephanie home and he says this:
“I’ve fallen in love with you. That’s what’s on my mind. I want you, Stephanie. I want you to be mine. I want your heart. I want your attention. I want you to be English so I can marry you. I want you to live on the ranch, because I want to build us a house to live in there. I want us to have babies. I want to grow old with you. But every bit of that sounds pushy and almost crazy. We’ve known each other only a few weeks.”
He suddenly became pretty pushy about this and it wasn't really how he had acted anywhere prior to this in the book. I didn't really like it. It felt out-of-character for him. I am happy that they got married, though. I thought that the epilogue was cute, even if I wanted to know exactly how much time had passed.

Maybe it's a 2.5-star because of that stupid climax, but I'll be generous and keep this at a three.

Unshaken is Shelley Shepard Gray's newest upcoming release.

Unshaken has a unique plot line, with Stephanie witnessing a murder at the dollar store. Another witness saves Stephanie as the gunman is aiming his gun at her. Bev, a social worker, sends Stephanie on a journey to keep her safe.

Hardy loves his sister Bev, so when she asks him to help keep Stephanie safe, he doesn't hesitate. Hardy and Stephanie have nothing in common, and while Stephanie isn't sure about him or Bev, she does what they say so that she can stay safe.

Read for:

not your everyday Amish fiction
hiding
finding yourself
found family
two romance lines
the epilogue
I didn't understand a few things, and some of the wording was odd. Overall, it was an interesting story with a diverse cast of characters.

Unshaken by Shelley Shepard Gray is truly a heart pounding, page turning, breath holding, sitting on the edge of your seat and can't wait to find out what happens next kind of book.

Great characters and storyline. Stephanie Miller barely escapes with her life when she witnesses a drug deal gone horribly wrong. Now she is a witness to a murder, and the killer is after her.

I highly recommend this book, I promise you won't be sorry.

I was chosen to read this book before its release. I was so excited because Shelley is one of my favs. This book had me from the start. Young Stephanie Miller goes into an unconventional “witness protection” after witnessing a murder. Young Stephanie’s world is turned upside down as she is ripped away from her home. As we follow along her story and along with her protector Hardy’s story we see that two different people can find love in the scariest of times. This story will captivate you. You will not be able to put this book down. Shelly’s writing and stories are captivating.
I love that this story is set in an area that is close to my hometown.
