James R. (Rick) Ludwig, Ph.D. spent over forty years in the academic, health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. Rick also maintained a writer’s journal since his junior year in high school and populated it with short stories, poetry, and essays throughout his career. Although a published author of multiple scientific papers and book chapters, writing for a popular audience presented a unique challenge. Rick spent the first year of his retirement, converting all of his writings, including his journal, to digital format. Since then, he has written full-time and self-published two novels. Mirrored (2014) and Something More (2015). More recently Rick has had three of his books published by Babylon Books: Eyes of the Beholder (2022), and Voice of the Victim (2023). Rick participated in the 2009 Hawai’i Writers Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, served as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2013 Aloha Writers Conference in Kapalua, Maui, and attended best-selling author William Martin’s Retreat workshop during that conference. Rick participated in best-selling author William Bernhardt’s Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and advanced writers’ workshops between 2010 and 2014. Rick has presented seminars at the Rose State Writers Workshop (2015); the Red Sneaker Writers Workshop (2018); and at WriterCon (2021, 2022) in Oklahoma City. Rick will representing a new seminar at WriterCon 2024 "Creating Mystery: Posing Questions Your Readers Want Answered" on Sunday, September 2, 2024 Rick is married with two grown children and he and his wife Christy divide their time between Maui, Hawai’i and Southern California.
