News travels fast in Big Sky Lake—just ask Jackson Bowman. The catastrophic and rather public end of his marriage has led him to seek refuge in the isolation of a familiar lakeside resort. He practically lived at the rustic resort and its mossy cabins growing up, so returning as an adult wasn’t a wild idea. Now single and in his 30s, he’s not interested in finding a relationship. He’s too worried history might repeat itself.
One late spring night, Jackson discovers Harper Cross and her son Kyle stuck on the side of the road outside the resort. It’s clear they have been living in their car. Harper quickly spins a tale for why she’s going to the resort, but Jackson is skeptical. Despite his misgivings, he lets the eye-catching woman and her son stay. How could he turn them away?
That one decision will alter the course of their lives forever. Over one scorching summer, Jackson and Harper find the spark between them isn’t the only fire burning in Big Sky Lake.
Fire Canyon is book two of the Big Sky Lake series, featuring small town love stories in an idyllic Montana setting.

3.5/5 stars. I received This book as a Goodreads giveaway. The story was a wild ride, with more action and adventure than I anticipated. Likable characters and beautiful scenery. I wish there was a little bit more character development, but I liked the book overall.
Fire Canyon is the 2nd book in the Big Sky Lake series by Dan Kolbet, overall I found this to be an entertaining read. I felt this could be read as a stand alone book, even though it is part of a series. This book contained a little bit of everything, great community, suspense, rescues and HEA ending. I would recommend it to others.
I received an ARC from BookSirens, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Fire Canyon is a heartwarming and engaging small-town romance that delivers a compelling blend of second chances, emotional depth, and scenic Montana charm. As the second book in the Big Sky Lake series, it follows Jackson Bowman, a man retreating to the solitude of a lakeside resort after a very public and painful divorce. His plans for isolation take an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Harper Cross and her young son, Kyle, who are stranded and clearly in need of help.
Kolbet does a great job of crafting characters with real emotional baggage, making their journey toward healing and love feel authentic. Jackson’s reluctance to open up again is understandable, and Harper’s resilience adds an inspiring layer to the story. Their slow-burn romance unfolds naturally, with plenty of tender and heartfelt moments. The setting is beautifully described, making Big Sky Lake feel like a character in itself, adding to the book’s cozy yet dramatic atmosphere.
The reason this isn’t a full five-star read for me is that some parts of the story felt a bit predictable, and I wished for deeper exploration of Harper’s backstory. However, the novel is still a captivating and satisfying read, especially for fans of small-town romance. If you love stories about love, second chances, and finding home in unexpected places, Fire Canyon is definitely worth picking up!
The story takes place in a small Montana town, Big Sky Lake. As it has been awhile since I read the first BSL book, I was worried I would not be able to follow the story, but this is a standalone book even without reading the previous one. The book had a lot of action and adventure, and I found myself up too late at night just to finish the next chapter. There were plot twists that I had not expected, and the book was a very enjoyable read from beginning to end. I am already looking forward to the next book in the BSL series!
The story line was interesting. I would have liked the "back story" earlier in the book, then the way it was split out. But I was able to follow it, so it was OK. I didn't read Book 1, so may have to go back and read it now. Glad this story held it's own.

This book has it all, love, suspense, surprising twist, heroic rescues, caring community, and a HEA. I enjoyed each and every chapter and was sorry to see it come to an end.

One of my favorite books from Dan Kolbet. There was a little bit of everything: suspense, romance, mystery, young love and even some baseball references. Grab the whole series. I can’t wait for #3
