Gripped

I selected this book on a whim. I'm so ever grateful for it. Mind you I'm not a zombie person but this book had me despite the flesh eating creatures in this book. Throughout the book I kept on saying the wife was stupid. There was no way I would be dumb enough to believe that love conquers all. And it does not. But you do see the difference love makes. And you for for them despite thinking that science in reality would not be advance enough to conquer the infection. But you want them to reunite so badly that you realize you're as idiotic as the wife.
Great writing. Very gore. The sex scenes are not as intense but good enough. Storytelling that keeps you engaged despite having to get up early to go to work (I could not stop until I found out if they were going to be back together). Worth the read.

*****Spoilers*****

This book was long and came full circle. Rocco and Torah are a married couple trying to survive in a world where there are infected and bankers. The infected and bankers were bitten by others infected but survive. The bankers retain some intelligence after they're bitten and gain enhanced abilities and senses like better hearing and smell, being able to see in the dark, increased speed, improved strength, but they also become unhinged and unable to control their desire to kill and eat people and have sex, while the infected just deteriorate. There's no knowledge as to who will become which version after they're bitten. Although they're careful and have a safe place to live, they scavenge for food from where they can find it, often empty stores.

Unfortunately during one of their outings, they're attacked by a banker and Rocco is bitten. The best case scenario happens in that Rocco becomes a banker but he's unable to control his urges. There are times when he almost kills Torah who loves him so much that she's unable to give him up. Rocco is unable to stay faithful to Torah in his new state and feels guilty because of it and is constantly at war with his human thoughts and feelings for Torah against his instincts as a banker. Eventually Rocco leaves Torah for a banker woman and see Torah safely to a community of people who are thriving outside of the banker and infected. Rocco is protecting Torah despite being a banker and feels that it's his new life with a banker woman he got pregnant.

Fast forward 5 years and Torah returns to the banker community in search of Rocco so that she can give him the cure to his banker state. Rocco ends up killing his banker son who attacks and bites Torah but thankfully, she's with a scientist from the community who is able to bandage her up and give Torah the antidote so she doesn't succumb to the effects of the bite. Rocco goes with them back to the community to be cured and after some touchy moments, is cured about 7 months later. Another banker is brought in and cured and that's who Rocco bonds with in the new community. Despite hurting Torah emotionally and physically when he was a banker, Rocco and Torah still have feelings for one another and eventually end up back together despite the guilt, devastating words and decisions that hurt and gutted their relationship.

I felt a profound sadness for Torah and her inability to let go which wasn't cured by their happily ever after. She and Rocco reunite but I couldn't help but continually hope that she move on. Torah waiting and waiting on Rocco to be what they once were to one another when he was a monster was difficult to read at times and Torah came across to me as pathetic here and there. Rocco tried his best but couldn't and Torah was unable to let go that he wouldn't be intimate with her anymore and that Rocco's new nature uncontrollably craved another banker woman instead. For his part, Rocco truly seemed to try but couldn't keep the other part of his nature down because he fantasized about eating Torah while they had sex which spooked him something awful. I wished Rocco would open up to Torah more about what was going on with him internally because his constant put offs and rejections didn't help.

When will women stop being written as doormats who accept all types of cheating for years and years because of love? This book used his zombie-ism to justify the cheating and then tried to romanticize her standing by the asshole throughout it all.

This was not what I expected

If I had figured out that the obstacles the married couple was going to have to go through was zombies, I would have never downloaded this book. This author is very talented. Ohh, my goodness I loved. I loved it so much. The only thing that it could have been better for me was that Tora, or I should say, there is too much pain. That's what I notice about these authors' books. The female lead. She has an awful lot of pain. I want to see more of a balance with pain and happiness more joy for the lead. Because when the end comes, we don't get enough of the joy. For instance, it would have been nice for Tora and him to have that baby. OVERALL I'm happy that they found a cure. I'm happy that everything turned out the way it did. It was wonderful how he made their place look nice the murals the plants, the light because I was pissed at him even though he didn't have no choice.

What an emotional 4.5 star read!!!

Alexandria has done it again! Every single book I read by her has such intensity and passion. Not just “intimate” passion but fear, anger, lüst, manic. She gives it all!!!
THIS story was a little different than my current reads but I still like the fantasy books thank goodness because I’ve a feeling I’ll read just about anything Alexandria writes!
I won’t recap the story but I will say there is a pattern to Alex’s writing where our h suffers her arse off! The women of these stories are expected to take a lot but the men are hardly ever made to do so. Other than that? Chefs kiss!
Listening to the virtual voice is always the same. Some wrong inflection at times but I’m pretty used to it now! Lol
All in all, another banger by Alexandria da Great. Eagerly plugging my way through her catalog.

Emotional Damage

Holy heck this book had me on an emotional roller coaster. A lot of books nowadays have really fierce, who we want to be, female characters, and I'm here for it, but Torah is who we really are. I found myself getting so mad at her, like girl leave him. Let him go! But at the same time I'm like. . .okay, I get it girl, we all got that somebody we know ain't good for us but for some illogical reason we hold on anyways. Been there done that. Honestly I could not put this book down to safe my life. Before I knew it the sun was coming up and I had to be at work in 2 hours. Lastly, everytime I read Rocco's name I would think of Elmo and I now understand the sentiment. Overall 10/10 if there were paperbacks available I'd buy a copy.

The art is gorgeous, but the writing style was hard to get into, and Torah was immediately giving useless damsel energy. I read a review that explained the entire plot, and I gotta say I’m feeling good about bailing. This was the writing that made me fairly certain I was about to DNF, and I didn’t even make it to the cheating plot:

"Come on Rocky... why don't you f*ck me like you want to put a baby in me." "Ughhh," Rocco moans, pumping faster, his 🍆 throbbing with each thrust.

What a journey

This story took me on a wild ride. There were times I begged Rocco to have an ounce of humanity and stop hurting Torah and there were times I applauded Torah for not giving up and believing in Rocco. I wish there was a little more info on the bankers Rocco encountered over the years but I really like the story.

OOOO this was good. The picture on the book is misleading.
I thought that was a little girl not the man's wife.

So it was a little creepy to look at pic and then listen to the book with all those "Adult" scenes in it.

Over all I love how it showed love in deed conquer all even if its only in a Book. :)

Intense

Interesting story. Not quite at the same level for me as the two series but a good concept. Some of the scenes were very intense and descriptive. I'm not sure a relationship would survive the same environment and situations in reality. But it's book land so there is some poetic licence.

Good Read

Overall this book was nice. God bless Torah to have the strength for sticking by her man because that was a testament to her love for Rocco. Glad this book was was a thrilling read and I’m happy there’s an HEA.
