#Review: *Starry night kisses - D.L Darby - ARC [18]

In order to read this book, you must start with 'Peppermint kisses', because this one continues exactly where that one ended. Thank you Happily Booked Pr and D.L Darby for accepting me and sending these two books.
So, as I said this part continues straight to the time and place the previous book ended. We had Evie, who was still in a pretty low mood after finding out what she lived wasn't real. She was at a New Years party, where her friends planned to hook her up with Eric, a man who divorced for a while and was searching for someone to love.
Maybe it was a bit scary how much Eric liked Evie, but he definitely fell harder for her and fought for her heart. He was a bit obsessed of her, in a good way, and I feel like Evie really needed someone like him afer her heart was broken by Johnathan.
This book was a little more steamier than the previous one, Evie and Eric having some moments where they show how much they care for each other. Evie was still thinking about Jonathan, but Eric was right there for her, understanding every thought she had and helped her a lot. It was super endearing to see how their relationship blossomed.
I really liked this story, especially how Eric was so kind and thoughtful with Evie. I kind of wanted to learn more about Jonathan's current life, even if it would have been only one sentence about him. This was as short as the first book, a quick read, but which I found very delightful.

✨ This was an ARC read for me. I was also sent the first book in the series since I had not read it yet and rated that one 5 stars!
Overall, I really enjoy D.L. Darby's writing style and had a fun time with both of these books. I actually am looking forward to reading more by this author.

I haven't read our MMC's book yet, but our FMC's book is the first in this series and I absolutely adored her story. Starry Night Kisses picks up right where Peppermint Wishes left off.
Evie and Eric just met on New Years at their mutual friend's party. They kiss at midnight and continue to build their relationship throughout the course of Starry Night Kisses. Eric is OBSESSED with Evie. He's been watching her travel blog for the past year and he already KNOWS she's the one. Creepy or kinda cute? That's up to you. Lol. He's also kept up with all of the books that she has been reading and he took it upon himself to read all of the books that she has rated highly... 😉 He wants to make sure that he satisfies her deepest, darkest fantasies. I loved it.
I will love you until the stars abandon the sky in search of other galaxies, and even then, I’ll find a way for us to follow them.”
Eric loves Evie without boundaries - he will do anything for this woman and he is ready to change his life to make her happy.

I do recommend reading Peppermint Wishes first so that you can experience Evie's entire story. I promise it will be better that way! They are both short novellas, so just read them both and thank me later. ◡̈

A direct follow-up from Peppermint Kisses, it is recommended that you read that one first before starting this one as you get the complete story. I didn’t have the luxury of doing that so I wasn’t aware of the back story for Evie. I still thoroughly enjoyed this book without it so it’s not vital, just recommended.
Eric and Evie have an instant connection following a New Year’s Eve kiss but then Evie backs off, wary of falling for someone again so quickly. Also, Eric’s job takes him away a lot and this was the same as her ex-husband so she didn’t want to go through that again. However, after a steamy texting session and a tied to the table scenario, Evie is left in no doubt of Eric’s feelings for her and agrees to go camping with him. And then the spice really hits.
Eric is the complete package. He’s such a sweet guy, a real teddy bear/golden retriever male but underneath and in the bedroom, he is a dominant Doberman, an alpha male through and through. Evie is open and receptive and enjoys her time with Eric and eventually lets him into her heart as well as her bedroom.
Their relationship was built on trust and openness and it was good to see them grow and develop as the story went on, despite the fact it was a short novella. There was still enough character arc for both of them.

Honestly... I'm so obsessed with this duet. I wanted Evie and Eric's story so badly. Really, I was just so sad over the way Peppermint Wishes ended (still one of my favorite books). It was the perfect weekend, and I desperately wanted to go back to that setting. I wasn't sure I could care about Eric the same way, but he proved to be greater than I could have imagined. He was the perfect combination of obsessed with Evie and caring. He put her first while also taking what he knew he wanted. Their weekend in the woods is the definition of the perfect camping trip. I loved the way Eric put his thoughts into words about not needing time to define how he feels or the pace their relationship moves. Evie will always be one of my favorite fmc's, but I'm so glad we got the chance to fall in love with Eric and see more of who he really is. Also, Archer and Bagel had me cracking up throughout the book. They may be the best furry duo to exist.

We follow along with Evelyn's journey to find true and lasting love (since I think she was jipped out of love in the first book of this series). Will she be able to find it with mild-mannered Eric? Can he give to her and be the man she needs or is she doomed to live the same fate she had in her marriage?
Who would have thought that mild-mannered Eric would be so... well... yummy! I mean, really? You want to do what with me in the woods? Not only is he an alpha, but he's the biggest teddy bear there is. The author made Eric into what every woman wants, the complete package.
I was glad to see the author followed through with Evelyn and Eric's story because it's delightful and full of heart. I was rooting for them for the entire book, which is hard to do sometimes.

Starry Night Kisses was both cute and steamy.
I read this as a standalone, although it is recommended to read the first beforehand, I feel like this still worked and I really enjoyed it!
This book was a nice fast-paced read. I enjoyed seeing the growth of their relationship, even though this book really wasn’t that long. I feel like this book touched on some important topics, and that it did so appropriately.
I think I will try and read the first of these at some point for sure!

This was such a sweet story! Evie is struggling to move on after her year abroad, but Eric seems to be just what she needs. As they spend more time together he reveals that he's been waiting a long time for her, and after the initial shock, she knows that it's meant to be.

This was cozy, romantic, and just the tiniest bit dark. This book brought everything full circle in the most satisfying way. This story wraps up the world the author has been building since Where the Flowers Bloom and it was great seeing familiar characters pop up in the plot. Like checking in on an old friend but with a little extra sparkle and romance. I loved the quiet obsession from the MMC.

If you’re looking for spice that is what a majority of this book was. With it being a novella (about 138 pages) that’s not a lot of time to give our characters time to grow. It was very fast paced and I personally wasn’t a fan of how Evie thought of Jonathon and then would turn around and be like nope I’m thinking of him while she was Eric.

This book picks up right after Peppermint Wishes, so I’m happy it tied up Evie’s story! I didn’t like it as much as the first book honestly because Evie had a much better connection with Jonathan in the first book. However, the ending was heartwarming and made me cry.

Picking up right where Peppermint Wishes leaves off, DL gives her readers the closure they needed from book 1 of this series. PW left my heart in a choke hold, from a wonderful love blossoming between two broken souls, to the twist I did not see coming!! She even warned readers at the beginning of the book and I still wasn’t prepared for what she did. But thankfully she put my heart back together by giving Evie a happily ever after.
Having spent the last year traveling all around the world, Evelyn (Evie) is home, but still can’t forget about the man she met last Christmas. Not sure if she can open herself up to love again, she is content, for now. Her sister introduces her to someone, who she is attracted to, but can’t take the chance on yet. As their friendship progresses, her feelings deepen and she finds herself ready to take a chance on love again. I loved seeing how Evie allowed her heart to open up again and even though she still had fears, she didn’t let them rule her.
Eric has been obsessed with Evie for much longer than she knows. He is so happy to finally meet her in person, and agrees to be friends, but he is determined to make it more. When he finally decides to cross the line and push Evie to her breaking point, he realizes there is no going back. When he realizes what Evie is most afraid of, he shows her just how important she is to him. Eric is everything we love in a MMC. The perfect gentleman in public, but dominating in bed and doesn’t hold back his feelings. He knows how much Evie is worth and is determined to show her!
This was the perfect ending for Evie and I am so happy that DL wrote this story! To get the full experience of this story, I highly recommend reading Peppermint Wishes first! Both books are quick reads, full of spice, and romance. Heartwarming stories of second chances!

Starry Night Kisses is the second book in the Weekend Wonderland duet and you ABSOLUTELY need to read the first book (Peppermint Wishes) before this one because it follows Evie and her NYE’s kiss, Eric, after her “only for the weekend” with Jonathan.
I have mixed feelings about this book (different from my feelings about the first lol), and I’d say it was just an “ok” read for me. It’s my fault really. While infertility is not a trigger, adoption often comes up in these stories and even though it wasn’t listed in the trigger warnings I should’ve asked about it. I think I’m just going to avoid all stories about infertility going forward.
I also wasn’t a fan of the “pet parent” verbiage. I have a pet and I believe they’re family but I’m weirded out by the whole “pet mom/pet dad” thing.
It’s not all bad, there were parts I really enjoyed too. The spice was DEFINITELY spicing, and ermahgerd the MMC (sorry, I can’t call him by name because I have a BIL with the same name and I just….can’t 😂) He is hawwwwwt, obsessive, intensive and DELICIOUSLY possessive. His dirty talk is ON POINT. We love a golden in the streets, doberman in the sheets 🥵🥵🥵

Starry Night Kisses is the second book in the Weekend Wonderland duet and you ABSOLUTELY need to read the first book (Peppermint Wishes) before this one because it follows Evie and her NYE’s kiss, Eric, after her “only for the weekend” with Jonathan.
I have mixed feelings about this book (different from my feelings about the first lol), and I’d say it was just an “ok” read for me. It’s my fault really. While infertility is not a trigger, adoption often comes up in these stories and even though it wasn’t listed in the trigger warnings I should’ve asked about it. I think I’m just going to avoid all stories about infertility going forward.
I also wasn’t a fan of the “pet parent” verbiage. I have a pet and I believe they’re family but I’m weirded out by the whole “pet mom/pet dad” thing.
It’s not all bad, there were parts I really enjoyed too. The spice was DEFINITELY spicing, and ermahgerd the MMC (sorry, I can’t call him by name because I have a BIL with the same name and I just….can’t 😂) He is hawwwwwt, obsessive, intensive and DELICIOUSLY possessive. His dirty talk is ON POINT. We love a golden in the streets, doberman in the sheets 🥵🥵🥵

I really loved the character development on both Evie and Eric’s part and the pacing of this second book.

Dropping hints about their future, Evie learns Eric's very familiar with her... from her favorite books to her travel blog to her likes and dislikes. He uses everything he knows to become the best partner for her, even if he conveniently forgot the graham crackers for their s'mores.

After reading this book I got to experience second chance romances, love at first sight, steamy romance, and a happy ending. It's funny how Evie and Eric's marriages didn't work out but they found happiness with each other. I think Evie was soul searching but she also was wearing armor around her for the fear of being hurt again. Eric is a kind guy with patience but a dark sadistic side when it comes to sexual fantasies. He is what Evie needed after how her husband treated her. I love their camping trip story. I like that they had their dogs along with them for the vacation. That's so sweet and considering when most people would leave their animals at home for babysitting. I think Evie was finally blossoming more when Eric came into her life. She stopped being afraid and took a chance. Eric is what most women need. He was understanding about her not being able to have children, and his love for her like Wesley from the Princess Bride. In some ways he relates to that character. Seeing them adopt a child at the end of the story was very heart warming. I'm happy they started a family. It's funny how Eric's ex-wife Daphne was the matchmaker for the relationship. She became good friends with Evie. I'm glad both their daughters became friends Eric and Evie finally get the happy ending they deserve. Thank you for the opportunity of the story. I enjoyed reading it.

*Do keep in mind this was a very short but good read*
Even with this being a short book from our wonderful D.L. Darby, I still manage to love all of her writing no matter what she puts out. And I am so happy to be a part of this ARC team that gets to read these great books... so with all my blabbing being said, let's get onto the review now. When reading through this book, I found myself falling absolutely in love with Eric because he is such a good bookish boyfriend and that he really is such a good fit for Evie as a character.
As for Evie, I really liked her too and it was nice to see that this storyline now made her the MFMC because I thought she was great in the Peppermint Wishes book, so I liked when she got her own storyline. This really let me focus a bit more on her and watching her grow and form that connection with Eric was just so cute and very swoony. They both share a lot of good witty moments between & and fun, but even with Evie being a bit more reserved, it was still good.
Overall, this was a very sweet and cheerful little read!! And can I get a big WHOOP WHOOP for the stomach problem girls because, omg, same!!! I was so glad to see that hasn't changed at all, lol.

I will never make or eat a s'mores again without thinking of this book and I love that for me. Eric knows how to play with his food in the most delectable and dirty way and I kinda want him to teach me some things. IYKYK
After Evie's return from Sutton Lake (where Peppermint Wishes leaves off) she embarks on a trek through Europe. Eric learns of Evie and her European adventures from her cousin, and begins a sweet but stalkerish one sided love affair. He knew all about her and had started to fall long before she even knew who he was.
Evie is dealing with past trauma and heartbreak from her ex and her love affair with Jonathan, and swears she's not looking for anything serious. Eric is nothing if not a patient man, and he will wait as long as necessary to make Evie his. Their hotter than Arizona summer camping trip is the turn of their relationship in many ways and Evie begins to realize she may just be able to have it all.
The connection and passion these two share is explosive and my heart was ecstatic for Evie to finally get her HEA. Eric was the absolute perfect man for her. The way he could go from golden retriever to dirty talking doberman in the blink of an eye is just what Evie needed.
I'm so excited to see what DL Darby has in store for us next!

Starry Night Kisses is the follow up to Peppermint Wishes, which I highly recommend you read first. This story picks back up on Evie's life post traveling and Jonathan. Her cousin is currently trying to set her up with the sweetest man ever. Bonus points? Eric might already be a fan of hers!
I absolutely love that while this was a shorter book, it was not such an instant romance based on timeline like Peppermint was. We see the main characters relationship develop over a few months time. Initially, Evie is hesitant to open up to Eric because his work life reminds her a lot of her ex husband. On the same hand, Eric is reluctant to open up for fear of scaring Evelyn off. Can anyone say miscommunication trope?!
Eric also adds a little bit of golden retriever to the general public....but alpha in private and I am here for those type of MMCs. Plus? No one can ever look at s'mores the same way now ;)
Highly recommend this book to those that enjoy a cinnamon roll MMC with a touch of dominance in the bedroom activities, found family, healing during an HEA, and those that enjoy doggy companions! Archer and Bagel need all the good boy ear scratches!

The Darbyverse just keeps growing and growing! If you've read Peppermint Wishes and always wondered what happened next to Evie after that shocking ending. Then wait no more because D.L. continued her story and my oh my I never thought sweet loving Eric was this dirty!!!
Eric and Evie met on NYE at Evie's cousin's house. Right from the start there was an instant connection between the two of them and it was something that needed to be explored. I loved how open and honest Eric was to Evie and let her run this at her own pace until Eric staked his claim that is. I also loved how much Evie accepted Eric and his friendship with his ex-wife Daphne. It's an odd friendship but it's one that holds no threats. If you've read Where the Flowers Bloom it will make more sense. This couple was sweet, sexy, surprising and hilarious. And at the same time, I won't be thinking of smores the same way again. A HUMAN SMORE!!!

This may not be a dark romance but I was entranced with how much Eric was relentless in knowing Evie is who he wanted. And then the way he morphed from golden retriever energy to a lethally focused energy? Yupp. IRL, alarm bells might be ringing. But being able to know the intentions behind Eric? Yupp again.
Loss, grief, and healing are all themes for Evie. And by the end it is all beautifully wrapped up and I had tears in my eyes.

Wow, I am in love with this duet. I loved Starry Night Wishes & it was a great addition to Evelyn & Eric’s story. I definitely wanted more on the 2 of them & D.L. Darby made it happen!
There’s just something about a plot that takes place hiking & camping .. I have to get my hands on it! I truly loved Eric from the first story & loved how patient he was. How much thought he puts into everything & Evelyn. Then to find out he’s already been obsessed with her long before she knew it. Kinda hot! Eric gave Evelyn a beautiful weekend to remember! The chemistry was always there & it gets better! I love the banter as well, which makes it even more fun & enjoyable! & the ending 😍🥰
This is a perfect, cute, romantic, steamy & spicy novella! There is so much to enjoy in just 126 pages! I recommend you read both to get the full effect of this beautiful story!

Fun and cute while still packing a punch of heat, which what else do you expect from 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘴 when her tagline is “books that make your kitty purr“.
We first met Evie in Peppermint Wishes and you HAVE to start there for the full effect in my opinion. There are many moments where you get a glimpse back into past adventures our little Evie has been on. Eric, Eric, Eric. Not going to lie, loved him, wanted to slap him (@authordldarby already listened to my meltdowns), then loved him ferociously again. He just needed a little ah-ha moment, which he got with the help of Nick (I vote he stays on the island too, @authordldarby ) Once THAT side of Eric arrived, I was locked and loaded. 🤤🫠
Bagel and Archer are also the star of the show here. Nothing makes a romance novella than adding a sprinkle of b0ndage, a dash of food play, and each character having their own fur-besties that you can help but love.
