Theo, the narrator of this picture book, is happy to finally have a dog of his own. But the pup, Geoff Thorndike, is nothing like what he expects. He prefers smoothies to the water in his bowl, sleeps in Theo's bed, and even makes friends with cats. There's no fetching for this dog, and Theo feels confused. But when his friends try to teach Geoff how to chase squirrels, Theo realizes that doing so would be the wrong thing for Geoff. He decides to accept and love Geoff just the way he is. After all, being normal is way overrated. This humorous title with its colorful artwork and funny scenes has an important message that all readers should take to heart.
