Caroline is shocked when her mother reacts so strangely to her fiance's mother at the wedding rehearsal, but the woman has her reasons for despising Mary. Mary is a Devlin witch, beholden to Slanaitheoir, the demon of Devil's Mountain. Like generations of Devlin witches before her, Mary offers herself as sacrifice to repay the demon for his generosity to the other mountain families and his protection during the Great Famine. Slanaitheoir's protection comes with a terrible price, and Mary has suffered so much loss in her life. When her son, Bobby, begs for her to help he and Caroline conceive a child, Mary must once again sacrifice herself for the happiness of those she loves. But Slanaitheoir is no longer satisfied with Mary and his price this time ripples down to Bobby and Caroline in the most tragic of circumstances. Can Mary stop history from repeating itself upon the generations to follow?
This story will definitely have you burning through the pages. That said, I firmly believe it's misleading to categorize this as a romance. It is not a romance. The editing style is a bit off-putting to a purist like myself, but most readers probably won't notice the things that made me wince. If you're looking for a story that will have you questioning how much you'd sacrifice to protect those you love, this is a great read. If you're hoping for a romance with a sexy devil, this is not that book.

I'm very thankful to this author who offered this read to our Ladybugs bookclub on Facebook in exchange for a honest review. Personally I don't read what the book is about beforehand. So I had no idea what the book was about other than a witch. This book was good its been a while since a paranormal book has caught my eye.
One Devlin women thru the years has be offered up to protect their families. Mary unfortunately doesn't tell her family what she been going thru. I think its crazy that Caroline never asks her about the tale that everyone believes but don't believe. I don't want to give everything away but it's good and very creative plus unique. I didn't know it was going to be steamy but it definitely is.

Definitely a keeper. The Devlin Witch wraps up The Devlin Legacy Series, in which dark magic and romance are intricately entwined with women of the Devlin family. I loved this book, and the others in the series, Devil's Mountain, Devil's Shore and Devil's Daughter. The characters seemed incredibly real. I could hear them, see their expressions, even felt the heart-pounding moments they were going through. Gut clenching, sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes hilarious moments.
One of the many things I love about this author is her ability to make me believe that the magic is real, and ancient evil does exist in a sleepy little Irish town. That I could be Rita and Anne Marie fighting to keep the Book of Magic from family members who would use its power for evil, falling in love, struggling to save an innocent girl's soul or suffering loss. And for the length of this story, I totally was them.
The other books in the series are just as wonderful in this way and as unique, and can be read as stand alone novels. They're like potato chips though, so be warned. You can't read just one. :-)
