Nyx has been in love with the same man for as long as she could remember. She’s tried to tame his demons, heal the hurts of the past, but he keeps her at arm’s length no matter what. When her last attempt to sway him to her side fails epically, Nyx decides to walk away from her mate and move on.
Dark memories from the past have always haunted Briggs. He’s never been able to trust himself with anything precious—especially his mate. Too much blood stained his hands to take Nyx as his wife, so he must settle as her friend and protector. But it’s not enough for either of them. When she leaves him behind for good, he knows that he’s made a mistake and can’t let her slip through his fingers. It’s time to put the past when it belongs and fight for the only woman he’s ever loved.

I’ll confess, I fell away from this series for a long time after book 5, so I don’t entirely remember Nyx and Briggs taking up a lot of space in the previous books as the author mentioned (hence her reasoning for the shortness of this book,) but either way I think I would have loved a full novel like those written for all the other couples. Nevertheless, this book was still a page turner and I recommend it for anyone in love with the Pyre and Tempest pack!!!
Initially I had difficulty to catch up with the plot but the moment I did, it was such a breezy read. I completed it in just an hour.
It's a second chance romance so angst is a must, which the author delivered like power blow! I wouldn't have minded a little bit more groveling but Briggs!! His words in the end literally had me melting!!
I enjoyed this short but sweet Novella featuring Nyx and Briggs. It is a second chance fantasy romance with a cinnamon roll, shifter MMC and a strong FMC who isn’t afraid to fight for what she needs. This is number seven in the twisted Kingdom series and I recommend reading the others in the series 1st.
Nice and short! I did want a little more, but to be honest, it was amazing good read and I couldn’t agree more with the ending.
We all need that protector and kindness this man can give. One who knows not to get so close to not hurt the other person, yet still trying to be there, i thought this was cute.
I enjoyed the growth of their relationship to their happily ever after.
Short and sweet and straight to the point. While a full standalone there's no storyline here, just a second chance (third?) fantasy romance that ties in Scarlet and Brine in a nice way. Both Briggs and Nyx are characters introduced in other Twisted Kingdom books, but because this is so short you don't get to learn about them very much! 3.5 ⭐
The story was sweet and enjoyable but was riddled with errors such as “didn’t not.” I’m sure it’s personal preference but a multitude of errors really take me from the story
too short but definitely a story I didn't even know I needed! I love Frost's writing. And this is my favorite series by her. Need to re read the series, and try to place these scenes =D
Mmmmm…. 75 pages for the one Black main character but the others in this series get 300+? It’s disrespectful to even call it book 7! And that everyone, is unconscious bias in action.
If it were presented as a Novella would’ve given it 4.5 stars but we waited a few years for this…
A nice little revisit to some of the characters in one of my favorite series. I enjoyed the bouncing timeliness seeing parts of Nyx and Briggs that we haven't before.
I think Briggs needed to grovel more after messing up so bad. And the dialog is a bit anachronistic especially in the beginning. But overall good times.
