C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
I wasn't sure at the beginning how this story would play out to include our Corps Justice group but they played their part flawlessly as always as we all got pulled into the history of Vietnam, dirty and ugly as it was. Warriors are always warriors, no matter what the era.
Expertly written. I was a U.S.O. volunteer in the San Francisco during the war. As a nation we asked a lot from our soldiers. I talked to hundreds of young men who were crushed when they came home to hostility and an ungrateful nation. This is a work of fiction, but believable given it was a very unpopular war and being human men saw tragedies that were beyond human comprehension. Well written. Conveyed real emotions of the terror war brings.
Cal Stokes, Top. Gaucho, and Daniel meet a group of men who have a previous Vietnam mission that has come back to bite them.
Former-President Brandon Zimmer calls Cal and tells him he was invited to a university football game between Alabama and Mississippi State but is unable to go. He asks Cal to go in his place but has a total of six passes so he can invite five of his friends
So Cal tell Brandon he will go and he took Gaucho, Top (Willie Trent), and Daniel with him.
Shortly after arriving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Cal and his friends are introduced to Thaddeus Montgomery, Hamilton Ham Devereux, Augustus Gus Holloway, Brett Carrington, and Roscoe Wainwright. From then on, we find a mystery with the friends that Cal and team met. It has to do with a Vietnam mission they were on decades prior and the past has come to disturb them now.
Mr. Cooper has written a story that is difficult to put down once you start reading because you are waiting to find out what happens at that football game!
Always filled with suspense and intrigue with happens of the team. Glad to see Daniel has returned in his norm. I miss some of the inter action with SSI, Marge and Brandon.. The flow of the epilogue in this and the last two books was much smoother and enjoyable n my opinion. Can't wait now to see how CG sets up the team and the Jefferson group's entanglement with Man behind the curtain.
It’s a pretty tedious read. Just when you think it’s going to get exciting you get pulled away to some convoluted additional minutiae. It never really lets you get into the book. Personally I like to get immersed in a book and not taken into a different scenario every couple of pages. Hopefully there’s people who enjoy this style of writing. Unfortunately I just can’t get into it.
As always with Mr Cooper's books great read. They go to fast read in two settings but leaves you waiting for the next in the series. I you haven't I recommend start at the first one and read through the entire adventure you won't be sorry I promise. Semper Fi.
Never tried of this series. I can't wait for the next one. It will be sad when you stop. All I ask is that you don't kill any of the characters. I would just be heart breaking. What a great read as is all the others. Start with the beginning one.
This would have been a good book but I couldn't tell who was who I hope if I read another book from this author you would know who the good guys are from the bad guys!
I have read everything that Cooper has written and this is the best work yet. Fast paced action with your favorite Corps Justice heroes with a little spice from some new characters that I hope we can hear from again.
Cal and the team are invited to an Alabama football game by the ex-president to help 4 Vietnam veterans. The secrets and the underlying intrigue make this a great read. Welcome back to the beast.
I’ve read the entire series (up to this point). Mr. Cooper does a great job building the characters and their relationships. The plot had its twists and turns. There was a surprise or two.
This is a really Outstanding Book in the corps Justice Series. I found it hard to put down even when going to bed. ‘‘Tis is an outstanding series of books but start it with Book # 1,
Fascinating story about 2 military brotherhoods separated by a generation. And I think C.G. Cooper introduced us to a new recurring adversary. Lots of surprises and a conclusion to many 50-year misunderstandings.
Echoes of Honor - Eleven Chapters into it and I have no idea what’s going on or the purpose. IF I hadn’t read so many of his previous I’d discard it. It should have grabbed me by now. Ok, after chapter 16 I put it down. I wasn’t interested !
A little disappointed with reality of situations, major football rivalry with CIA attacks, not realistic. Vietnam issues believable, typical government deniability to hide corruption.
This book is not like the others. It had good verses evil but didn't have the connection that has accompanied the other books. Something is missing and yet the author left the hook for another story.
The team is back in a different situation than usual. A Vietnam mission that went awry comes back to haunt those who took part in it. Cal and the team gets involved in their bittersweet reunion.
Loved this book--although all of the Corps Justice books have been interesting and this one kept my interest until the very end of the book. Love all of the characters in this series.
