A Shared Devotional Journal for Moms and Teen Daughters As most moms know, connecting with our teen daughters can be complicated. We want to help our girls work through setbacks, grow in confidence, and connect with God. Meanwhile, finding the space to have tough conversations isn’t easy.
This mother-daughter devotional journal is designed to help moms and daughters communicate about challenging topics ranging from everyday stressors to life-shaking crises. A One-of-a-Kind Mother-Daughter Devotional The most unique aspect of this mother-daughter devotional journal is that it is written by a teen girl and her mom. As a teenage girl, Bekah is familiar with the challenges and temptations faced by teen girls. She writes about friendships, academic stress, sports, and faith.
After decades of experience with teens as a high school youth group leader, teacher, and mentor, Stacey broaches issues that are often awkward for teen girls and mothers to discuss, including dating, purity, future decisions, risk-taking, and more.
Each devotion is followed by a shared journaling section in which both mother and daughter are invited to share their thoughts, experiences, and reflections. This journaling section creates a safe space to discuss topics that can be uncomfortable to talk about in person. Wish I would have had this book in middle and high school. There would have been less slamming doors and more constructive conversations. The teenage years are hard to navigate but when you try to do it alone it’s that much harder. Must read!!
My oldest granddaughter just turned seven, so I’m storing up lessons ahead of time for my days of grandmothering a teen girl. Stacey Pardoe is a well-loved writing friend who is mentoring her own daughter Bekah in the writing life as well as in the faith. Their latest collaboration is a collection of fifty devotionals aimed specifically to reach the hearts of teen girls and their mothers.
There’s no question that kids are faced with different challenges than their moms faced at the same age. The water they’re swimming in portrays doubt as a virtue, identity as fluid, and morality as a quaint convention. Media and entertainment choices seem determined to undermine godly values, and busy schedules make it challenging to carve out time for meaningful mother/daughter check-ins. Heart to Heart is designed with all this in mind.
With lined spaces for both Mom and Daughter to journal and insightful questions to prime the pump, each devotional initiates a different conversation with topics ranging from fear of failure and stress to calling and comparison. Women of all ages need reassurance of God’s approval and his good intentions. The message that thrums throughout the book is clear: Jesus is relentlessly loving—and he is pursuing you.
