Christmas Cancellation

Rate this book
New Expanded Second Edition (November 2025): This edition has been lovingly updated with revised text, formatting, and a heartfelt new epilogue that completes Noelle and Kol’s holiday story.

She’s stranded, furious, and running out of time. He’s the pilot who ruined her plans—and might reroute her entire life.

Noelle Nichols’ world is unraveling faster than a tinsel-wrapped tree in a windstorm. Her boyfriend dumped her—and took her job with him on the way out. And after her aunt’s tragic death, she finds herself jobless, single, and desperate to make it back to her hometown to claim her inheritance by Christmas Eve, Eve—or lose it all.

When a snowstorm throws Noelle’s plans into the kind of madness only New York winters and canceled flights can bring, she lets loose on the wrong man: Captain Kol Vinter, the airline pilot who’s annoyingly the only person who can help her get home.

The Captain doesn’t have time for a meltdown in Terminal C, but the fiery woman cursing his crew one minute and in tears the next has him breaking his own rules.

Offering her a ride through a blizzard is reckless. Wanting her? Even worse.

Stunned by his unexpected kindness, Noelle takes him up on his offer—how bad can it be? One-way trip, one grumpy pilot, one monster of a storm.

But as Kol navigates the icy highways toward Saratoga Springs—the quintessential Christmas town that’s lost all its magic for Noelle—his desire for the down-on-her-luck spitfire becomes harder to ignore than keeping the car on the road.

Worse—whiteout conditions strand them at her late aunt’s home.

No lights.
No heat.
No way out.
Suddenly, survival takes on a whole new meaning.

From Fa-La-La to Ooh-La-La it’s the Christmas romance book you’ll love curling up with. Christmas Cancellation is a snowbound holiday romance about loss, hope, and the kind of love that lands when you least expect it. Filled with snowball fights, spicy encounters, and small-town holiday charm, its story will have you laughing, crying, and believing in love all over again.

Tropes:

Quick Opinion:
I struggled a good bit with this one. I just kept on finding other things to do instead of read, which should've tipped me off that it wasn't working. I technically skimmed the last 10-15ish% because I was bored, not invested hardly at all, and I didn't feel their connection nor felt connected to either character. Even the steamy scenes seemed awkward in the sense that it felt like it was trying too hard. I struggled so much that I'm not feeling writing my usual review, if that says anything.

I'm now 0/2 for Christmas reads this season, so if you found a good one -- please share!

(This would probably be considered Safe for most safety gang readers)

Absolutely amazing Christmas story you can read all year long!!! This is soooo magical! It had me tearing up, swooning soooo hard and smiling ear to ear.

🎄Forced Proximity
🎄Small Town
🎄Opposites Attract
🎄One Bed
🎄Snowed In Together

Noelle and Kol meet in a fun way, he offers her a ride as their flights are cancelled due to a snowstorm. The ride together brought them so close together, and yet their banter back and forth is soooo entertaining!!!

Noelle is dealt with some tough choices, and tough luck, feeling she is not worthy to deal with said choices or life in general, she wishes the worst, but Kol saves and it makes for a beautiful story for them together!!!

I loved this story sooooo much. Evie writes with so much heart and emotion. And the steam that she writes flies off the pages. Noelle and Kol’s lead up to will they get together was soooo incredible and when they did, it was like fireworks exploded off the pages!

This is a book I will be not only re-reading at Christmas though the holiday aspects of the book had me sooo joyful and made my holiday obsessed heart sooo happy!

The cover gave me Hallmark Christmas movie vibes but my mistake as this is mainly just smut, and love at first sight smut at that.

I didn't particularly like either of the main characters, Noelle in particular read very childish with her tantrums and was very obviously 8 years younger than the love interest.

If your in the mood for a quick light hearted bit of spice before Christmas then pick this up, but apart from the snow storm there wasn't much Christmassy about it.

I had almost missed this ARC... I thought it was already archived but then found out I had sent it to my Kindle in time!

This Christmas book was nice and smutty but at times really deep and healing too.
He's a pilot, she's a mess who just lost both her boyfriend and job. He can't help his grumpy ass but help her offering a ride...
*Enters snowstorm*
*Appears a wonderful fireplace during a power outage* ❤️‍🔥👀🫦🍆

I liked it a lot and felt attached to both the MCs.
... I did find some faults too. Mostly I'd say the book didn't feel polished, some phrases were repetitive and it felt like the author had only one way to describe the FMC.

Thanks to Netgalley, BooksGoSocial and the author Elvie James for providing me with a free ARC of this in exchange for an honest review 🤍

Overall, I enjoyed the story. It took a few chapters to get into it, as I strongly disliked the main characters at first. Of course, as they soften up toward each other, I found myself softening toward them as well.
Personally, I was hoping for more Christmas-related content, but then I didn't read the summary too closely. It's definitely set at Christmas, so you've got some meals, a market, etc.
It's definitely an open-door story, so be aware, if that's not your thing.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy.

Thank you NetGalley & BooksGoSocial for this ARC of Christmas Cancellation!

I am on a streak of holiday romances, so my opinion may be a little hazy but this was not for me. The FMC was insufferable and flat out annoying throughout the book. I understand she has gone through a lot in her life, but it’s no excuse to act like an entitled, miserable human.

As for the MMC, he started off so strong but that fizzled out really fast. As a grown adult, who calls someone else “Stinkerbelle”? If someone called me that, I’d immediately stop talking to them.

Their relationship was so unrealistic too and way too intense on the first night. No one should trust anyone else enough to let what happened, happen in less than 12 hours. That completely ruined it for me.

I really tried to like this, but it just wasn’t for me!

Noelle is having some bad luck in her life! Her boyfriend just dumped her after stealing her promotion, she’s quit her job, and she has to go back to the hometown she’s avoided for four years the day before Christmas Eve, or she’ll lose her inheritance. Her flight is then cancelled and she finds herself in forced proximity with Kol who also so happens to be the grumpy pilot.

I didn't like the FMC or the MMC as I found them quite bland and had no character development to them. I also found them very immature considering they are in their late 20's. Their relationship also happened way to quickly as in less than 12 hours. If you love insta love then you are in the right place but I just can't believe that they like and trusted each other that quickly.

Noelle, whom nothing ever goes right for and has a permanent little black cloud following her around, meets no nonsense Kol who has his own baggage. The banter between them is hilarious from the start and so is the nickname he gives her. When their flight is cancelled, Kol volunteers to drive her to her destination since it's on his way. They get to know each other during the trip and fall into an instant lust/love forced proximity during a blizzard type relationship. This book features some heavy topics which I wasn't expecting for a Christmas book. The language and the spice (think Fifty Shades) wasn't for me, but if you don't mind and/or like spicy you'll love this book.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Cancelled flight, grumpy sunshine pilot & a story about finding yourself among the holidays…if this intrigues you, you will eat up “Christmas Cancellation”. Kol + Noelle find themselves in a forced proximity situation when the grumpy pilots flight plans are cancelled and the newly unemployed blonde are thrown together at the airport on a stormy day before Christmas. With her need to get to her aunts hometown before the end of the day, Kol steps in and assists her in getting her to Saratoga Springs safely as well as navigating grief she’s been holding in for years.

This story was a mixture of light hearted and deep but a holiday book that will leave you with all the warm fuzzy feelings.

this is a really fun retelling of it's a wonderful life and was done so beautifully! i have to admit that i havent seen it's a wonderful life in like a decade but this book made me really want to go and rewatch it. evie james did such an amazing job with retelling. the characters were so well written too.

my heart really went out for noelle throughout the book and i just wanted to give her a hug. i was also so in awe of her determination and drive after everything that she has been through.

as much as i loved noelle, mr. captain aka kol truly captured my heart. he had me grinning like an idiot 😂.

there was a fine line between steamy and heartfelt and it was just executed so perfectly. i was so enamored with the story and definitely needed some tissues at times. christmas cancellation is truly such a perfect heartwarming holiday read.

This was seriously the best Christmas read! The story was amazing, and I loved how Kol and Noelle helped heal each other. Evie James writes the absolute best FMCs, and Noelle is no exception, she’s feisty, strong, and sassy. Kol was truly Noelle’s knight in shining armor when she needed someone the most.

I also loved the small town Christmas setting. It felt like a spicy Hallmark moment in the best way. An absolute must-read for the Christmas season!

Christmas Cancellation by Evie James is a super-fast passed cute Christmas romance between Noelle, a recently unemployed sassy girl, and Kol, a pilot wine-lover. They both meet after her flight is cancelled and she needs to get to her hometown. Even though this book is insta-love, I believe that all the conversations between the characters had brought them much closer to knowing each other.
One point I do want to mention, which I thought was very well done throughout the book, is the amount of banter and friendly discussions between Noelle and Kol. All their interactions brought humor and character to the story, which sort of works with the slightly stronger or heavier moments of each other's personal stories.

The story follows our FMC, Noelle, and our MMC, Kol. Noelle is at LGA trying to get to her hometown to sign ownership papers for her late aunt’s estate, or else everything gets donated to the church. Kol is an ex-military pilot charged with flying the plane. When the flight is canceled due to snow, Kol overhears Noelle on the phone, ranting to her best friend. Noelle claims the flight crew does not want to work over Christmas and calls them lazy. Stating: “Or perhaps the entire crew is sitting at Starbucks right now drinking hot cocoa, laughing their asses off, and contemplating ways they can ruin people’s Christmas since they have to work.” Right away the reader gets the sense that Noelle is immature and not great at regulating her emotions. Kol overhears her and comes to confront her. After bantering back and forth, Noelle starts to cry. Feeling bad, Kol offers to drive her upstate.

In the spirit of Christmas, let’s start off on a positive note! I really enjoyed the overall vibe created by the author. It felt wonderfully atmospheric. Big thumbs up to fireplaces, gas stoves, and snowball fights.

Now, onto the negatives. The biggest downside to this story was how much I absolutely did not care about either of the main characters. From the beginning, Noelle was juvenile and bratty. I get the point of this in terms of character development, but I don’t think the development that needed to happen was achieved in the end. Kol started off fine enough, but got worse as the story went on. As Noelle was venting to him he makes a comment about classy ladies not needing to talk like a sailor, which rubbed me the wrong way. Overall, I think there are much better Christmas romances out there.

Thank you,NetGalley, for the eARC to read and review.

I really did enjoy this book, most of the books I’ve read this week are holiday/Christmas romances so this was perfect to add to my list! Some of the topics discussed in this book were a bit heavier than I expected for a holiday romance and I don’t think I was prepared for it but I think it was written very well and I loved seeing how being with Kol helped Noelle deal with her past. When Kol and Noelle met in an airport after a cancelled flight neither of them expected to be spending the holidays together or to fall in love. This book was very insta-lust/love where the characters fell in love within very few days. However, they did get to know each other well. During their time together they found out silly get to know you questions and the darker sides of each other. Both characters had baggage from their past that they were dealing with. Noelle especially learned to finally allow herself to grieve and work through things that she’d been ignoring with a little help from Kol who happened to know exactly what to do and say. I really liked that he was there and helped her deal with her grief. I think it brought them together and it’s one of the reasons why I’m okay with how quickly the relationship moved. There was also some spice in this book that happened very early on in their relationship that was very fun but also very intimate for how long they knew each other. Overall this book did give me the cozy Christmas vibes and I thought the relationship was very cute. The one little thing I didn’t love was the nickname that he gave her in the beginning just because I don’t think it sounded very cute and it wasn’t meant to at first but I was hoping he would change it or alter it at least once they started getting to know one another.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!!!

Noelle Nichols is determined to make it home for Christmas to fulfill a promise to her late aunt. However, due to weather, her flight is cancelled, leaving her stranded. Enter Kol Vinter, a rugged pilot with a gruff exterior but a heart of gold. As the captain of her would-be flight and a resident of a town near her destination, he offers her a ride. While they journey snowy roads, they face unexpected challenges and heartwarming moments. Along the way, Noelle and Kol discover that sometimes, the best gifts are the ones you don’t expect, and that love can be found in the most unlikely places.

Evie James has struck a wonderful balance with this holiday romance and retelling of It’s a Wonderful Life that will make you laugh, cry, and root for Noelle and Kol the whole way through. There is so much healing of childhood Noelle in this book that my heart hurt in a good way. The pacing of the transformation between bickering banter and warm, encouraging conversation between Kol and Noelle felt smooth and fun to look in on as they became snowed in together, not to mention all of the sweet holiday treats that had me yearning for a cookie baking session of my own!

I’ve mentioned how cinematic Evie’s writing is before, and once again, this book played in my head like a movie, just on the Hallmark channel with a little more spice and a lot more substance this time! Every detailed, wintery scene feels like peeking into a new, romantic little snow globe. It’s those touches that make this book so endearing. I also love that there is so much mental health representation in this book, and the way Kol helps Noelle navigate that at her own pace will melt your heart. This is a wonderful—pun intended—retelling, and I highly suggest curling up with it and a cup of hot cocoa before the season is through! Congratulations on this release Evie!!!

I always am a sucker for a good aviation related romance since I'm married to a pilot but this book fell short which was disappointing. Kol was an excellent character and so well written but did have some questionable actions. I really struggled to like Noelle because her tantrum in the first chapter was crazy. I almost put the book down after that scene. She seemed like a spoiled brat and it wasn't even just that incident. There are a lot of spicy scenes in the book and at times I kept thinking, you just met this person and don't even really know them! I also hated that he kept calling her his little elf. The book lagged in some spots but I loved the Christmas theme and the Saratoga Springs setting. Overall, this book had a lot of potential but wasn't executed properly.

In Christmas Cancellation, we met Noelle who just found out her flight to Albany was cancelled. She throws a tantrum at the airport and the pilot, Kol, overheard her. He ends up offering to drive her to Saratoga Springs since he lives close by. She agrees and the two are stuck in the car together driving through a snowstorm. Noelle needed to be at an appointment that day which is why she was in such a hurry to get there. After her appointment Kol drives her to her aunts house she just inherited and they get snowed in. Kol and Noelle seem to be getting along by that point and possibly having feelings more than friendship.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 4.5 Stars ✨⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Christmas Cancellation by Evie James is the kind of snowbound holiday romance that sneaks up on your heart and refuses to let go.

What starts as an unexpected Christmas detour turns into a deeply emotional story about loss, healing, and hope, wrapped in cozy winter vibes. The forced proximity and snowy isolation create the perfect backdrop for two souls who aren’t looking for love—but desperately need it. Evie James handles grief with such tenderness, never rushing the process, and allowing the romance to bloom in a way that feels genuine and earned.

I loved how this story balanced heartache and warmth, reminding us that sometimes the best gifts come when plans fall apart. The connection between the characters felt natural, comforting, and quietly powerful—proof that love can find you when you least expect it, even in the middle of a cancelled Christmas.

The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars is because I wanted just a little more time with these characters once everything came together—but honestly, that just means I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

If you’re looking for a cozy, emotional holiday romance with depth, healing, and snowfall magic, Christmas Cancellation deserves a spot on your winter TBR. 🎄❄️📚

Noelle isn’t having the best time. Her boyfriend’s just dumped her after stealing her promotion, she’s quit her job and she has to go back to the hometown she’s avoided for four years the day before Christmas Eve or she’ll lose her inheritance. So when her flight is cancelled and she’s stuck in the airport she’s feeling done with everything and wishes she wasn’t born. Her tirade to her best friend is overheard by pilot Kol and he can’t help but correct her assumptions then offer her a ride. That’s all it’s meant to be- one ride to her hometown and then Kol can go home. But as they bond on the journey can they really say goodbye?

I loved this! I honestly couldn’t put it down! Kol was just the right amount of grumpy for me. They both had pain in their past they were dealing with and Kol seemed to be exactly what Noelle needed. And the spice was definitely spicing!!

If you’re looking for a cute Christmas romance with It’s A Wonderful Life vibes then this is exactly the book for you!

Christmas Cancellation is a holiday romance that hits all the right notes—humor, heart, and plenty of steam. Noelle’s life is in shambles after a series of betrayals and losses, and a canceled flight feels like the last straw. Enter Kol, a grumpy yet unexpectedly kind former pilot who becomes her reluctant savior during a Christmas Eve snowstorm. Their journey from strangers to something more is full of witty banter, simmering tension, and emotional growth.

The forced proximity and opposites-attract dynamic between Noelle and Kol are executed perfectly. Kol’s gruff, protective nature contrasts with Noelle’s fiery determination, creating a chemistry that’s both playful and deeply heartfelt. The blizzard setting and small-town holiday charm add an extra layer of coziness to the story, while deeper themes of grief, healing, and rediscovering joy bring emotional weight.

Between snowball fights, one-bed tension, and moments of quiet vulnerability, this story will make you laugh, cry, and swoon. Noelle and Kol’s romance reminds us that even in life’s messiest moments, love and hope can still shine through.

For fans of holiday romances with forced proximity, opposites attract, and plenty of festive cheer, Christmas Cancellation is a five-star read that’s sure to warm your heart.

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy! All opinions are my own.

What is it about Christmas where everything has to go wrong so that you can see how right things can actually be? This story was such a cute Christmas story with an enemies to lovers vibe and a road trip because a flight cancelled by weather. At the beginning it felt very much like a lot of the classic Christmas movies and progressed into a spicy, sweet story of pain and healing. My all time favorite movie at Christmas is It’s a Wonderful Life and this story had some definite vibes of that movie. This book revolved around the two MCs who had such great banter and chemistry. It was so entertaining to read their journey together and gave me all of the warm, fuzzy, Christmas vibes.

Noelle is on the edge. Especially at the beginning, she gives off very George Bailey feels. Nothing is going right for her. She feels like her her entire life is crumbling around her and the cancellation of her flight is the last thread to snap. She goes off, bringing the attention of the very swoon-worthy pilot. When he sets her straight, she can’t take it and actually wishes that she had never been born. But Kol is there to “rescue” her by driving her to her destination. She is so sassy and very weary of letting her walls down around the stranger. But even from the very beginning you can see the chemistry between the two is off the charts.

Kol was such a great MC. Ex-military pilot that is kind enough to take a stranger on a multiple hour trip but still has that slight cocky arrogance that makes his interactions with the sassy Noelle perfect. But we find out that Noelle isn’t the only one dealing with the pain of the past.

I have become such a huge fan of Evie James’s writing. She creates characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. She also does an excellent job of writing spicy scenes. This book was such a great Christmas romance with more depth than your ordinary holiday romance. The trauma and growth makes this such an entertaining read, one that will help you start off your holiday season but also give you the warm feelings. I just fell in love with these characters and this story.

Absolutely fantastic story! I was nervous during the first chapter because Noelle appears to be a bit of a brat and I dislike brats a lot. But, it didn't take long to realize that the worst day/year ever will make most of us act like brats when things keep going wrong. This book is a modern take on the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" which I admittedly have not seen (I know, it's a classic, shame on me.) There isn't magic present like them movie, but that doesn't matter in the least because the story is magic itself. Kol is an amazing leading man who thinks he likes docile women. Turns out he needs someone like Noelle in his life to shake things up. Their banter is great without being annoying or demeaning and I loved the push and pull of their strong personalities.

The back story of the trauma that both characters have experienced which has played a big part in designing their struggles is well written, authentic, and heartfelt. I'm a trauma therapist and I know trauma, and it was right on the money. While it does have Christmas occurring around it, I wouldn't really call this a Christmas story. It's so much more than that.

The absolute best part for me? Don't laugh. I did not see/find a single typo in the entire book!

Steam rating: 4/5 on page between characters.

Noelle and Kol had me racing through emotions all over the place throughout this book. Their romance was fast and furious but sprinkled in with humor, grief and trauma.

There were a few parts of the book that were a little unexpected and had me in tears as it hurt to read of the trauma that both characters experienced. It was great to see them both turn it into something great at the end although I felt that it just ended. I was a little confused when I turned the page and there was nothing left to read.

Some of the spicy parts felt a little strange too at times and too much for the way the story was going. They also, in my opinion, didn't really match how the story would go later in the book.

This book had its good parts and its weird parts...
4 stars i gave it but really it was a 3.5 and it was bc of the strange parts, the author kinda did Vol (Mr Captain_ a bit wrong is some of this book. I really liked him until they got to the weird spicy part in the book, things went strange and I was not a fan of it.
Noelle was a bit much also, she had so many good things going in her life and yet she kept only looking at the negative.
I did like most of this book and the characters were good for most of the book also. But there were just areas that I couldn't like or enjoy. It just didn't feel like part of the same book I guess.
I am glad to have gotten the opportunity to read this book.

I’ll be honest this one was a bit slow for me. I got to the midway point and felt myself wanting more faster, but in truth it’s more of a me problem than the book itself.

It felt a little bit predictable at points and very similar to other romances I’ve read. I’ll admit, I don’t read a LOT of romance but I will say if you love a christmassy, cutesy romance with a supportive and protective MMC, you’ll definitely love this one.

Thanks so much to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

I absolutely love this story, it has everything you need, and boy does it ever put you through the wringer. There’s spice, humour, grumpy/sunshine, with a bit of insta love, as well as emotion and heartache. Truly a bit of everything.

Both Noelle and Kol have their own baggage going back and forth with misconceptions of each other at the beginning. There is a lovely forced proximity trope that brings them together to start unpacking said baggage.

I will say Noelle’s personal struggle with jumping to conclusions of Kol leaving her constantly was a bit much. I had a hard time with that. I understand mentioning it a few times for the story line, but it became too much. Other than that which I was able to get through, the story itself was great. A good spicy holiday read with lots of heart… and heat.

This was a cute, fun holiday read🎄

Noelle is traveling back to her hometown and gets stranded at the airport due to weather. It so happens that Kol,an angsty pilot is headed back in the same direction that Noelle needs to go and agrees to give her a ride. Add in the massive blizzard that leaves the two strangers with opposite personalities stranded, and you’ve got yourself a Hallmark Christmas Movie in book form. 🎅🏻 This was a quick, easy read for anyone who enjoys a lighthearted Christmas themed romance book.

This was not for me. I felt the writing was juvenline and there were many flaws from my perspective.

The MMC seemed to be very immature and talks about how he has sisters and is respectful but I found him rude toward women. He orgasms and doesn't reciprocate after their first sexual encounter which is a complete turn-off when it comes to any romance. Especially in this context when the FMC seemed eager for sexual release as well. How the MMC was during the sexual encounters just felt awkward and seemed off brand for how he spoke in general.

The insta-love, forced proximity did not work for me. The characters weren't particularly likeable, the FMC seemed whiney and it was very repetitive.

**ARC Review**

Christmas Cancellation is a Wonderful Life remix with a lot of spice. I love a silly little Christmas Romance but this one unfortunately did not hit. The romance had no slow burn, the characters frustrated me because all of the sudden everyone is a licensed therapist(?) and I just didn't vibe with either character.

If you are into (kind of) forced proximity, kind of dom spice, and snowed in themes/tropes you might love, for me it just didn't hit - that being said I did finish it in legit a day....

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in return for my honest review

I don't know if it was because it felt very rushed, but I didn't enjoy this romance as much as I should have, given the level of drama it incorporated.

Io non so se perché mi é sembrato tutto molto accelerato, ma non ho apprezzato questo romance quanto avrei dovuto, considerato il livello di dramma che incorporava.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
