Just finished watching the anime upto where it left off and i was way too invested emotionally to just end it there so ofcrs we went straight to the manga .

Synopsis: As the only member of the Koto club left, Takezo Kurata tries to save the club by recruiting more members. Unfortuantely, playing Japanese traditional music is no longer popular among high school students. He finds an unlikely candidate in Chika Kudo, a “juvenile delinquent” who insists on joining the club. Before long, they recruit music prodigy Satowa Hozuki. More members join the club in time, holding their own reasons for joining. However, in the end, they all have the same goal - to play at the Koto Nationals competition

I am absolutely obsessed with this story . I really didn't expect to be .It focuses on a group of high school students who join their school's koto club . Koto is a traditional Japanese instrument and before this, I had no interest in it at all, so I fully expected not to really care about that part and figured it would be my reason for ditching this if I did . Obv I was wrong . It did focus on the musical aspect of this but I ended up loving every bit of iI don't play any instruments but this koto based anime captured my heart. Its. A whole story in itself. Its actually quite impressive how much time, effort and emotion must have gone into picking and creating these pieces that go so perfectly with the plot and current themes and topics . I'm so impressed and I have a newfound appreciation for the koto too .

I love the characters so so much . They eventually came to feel like my own babies . Each one with different personality, different obstacles and multiple dimensions that u get to explore deeply through their background , their thoughts and as you witness their growth . They take you along for the ride completely with a focus on both emotions and mentality without burdening or overwhelming you and its so easy to emotionally connect to them . I love the dynamic between the koto group themselves ,the way they communicate with each other , their rivals , their family and strangers . Every success of theirs will feel like a success of ur own and every downfall will weigh heavily on your heart too . I felt like I was part of this experience because its so immersive. I may sound like a dolt but I yearn for what they have and I yearn for more of them because this storyline is just so pure . Its my fav slice of life yet because while it sounds simple and while it is realistic and not overdone as animes tend to be, its so entertaining. It evolves into a crescendo so sharp it transcends the bounds fo the screen .It had me silly grinning at my screen , scoffing ,blushing , it impacted me so greatly that IT MADE ME CRY ( multiple times) .ISTG at one point the effects of the music and its ties to the story , the meaning it had … I felt such a deep sense of inner peace on the last episode Every conversation waas enough to give you goosebumps. Its both heart warming and heart breaking and all these factors come together in perfect harmonisation to create a perfect piece that is Sounds of life . it is unfathomable to me how underrated this is because it deserves so much more . The fact that there has been no season 3 adaptation is in itself a heinous crime in my eyes. Im usually quite focused on romantic aspects in slice of life because if there's no romance what am I there for even? but while this had sprinkles of romance and a promise of slow burn that was so ridiculously delicious and lovely to have when you get it, it was no longer the sole reason for watching this . While we’re on that note all the pairings made perfect sense., full of chemistry and development and they're just perfect for each other . I cannot wait for more from this merry group <3

4.5⭐️

Picking up where the anime has left off - because I'm too impatient to know what happened next and can't wait for season 3 (there better be one or I'll sue!!) - and my heart just can't take the cuteness of this story and all its characters. They are all so precious and damn, I think it's been a long time since I squealed and awwed this much 😅

Kurata and Hiro are so hopelessly in love and while I hope they will confess to each other soon, I enjoy them being this cute and flustered around one another.

Chika and Hozuki are being their usual adorably tsundere selves and I'm not even mad that they have less progress than Hirata.

Sane, Mittsu and Kouta... Ah, the three loveable idiots. I do feel bad for them, the others are going on catching feelings while they are positively clueless, though I'm also strangely satisfied with how things are. Not every character needs to have a romance subplot...

That being said... Do I sense some possible relationship between Akira and Takinami? Hmm... 🤔🤔

series review [quickie]
I adore the main-main character, lovely spin on a delinquent character, and the fact that the instrument the series puts in the focus of the story is the koto makes me so happy! I love how tradition and modernity mix in this story through that. the other main characters (club members) range from good to amazing, but what makes the reading experience enjoyable is that each and everyone has their own story beats hit beautifully (even the supporting characters).
something I don't love is the romance, it just doesn't do much for me. while the "senpai" couple (to be) grew on me, and pretty quickly, the younger character's chemistry feels extremely lacklustre and formulaic. I feel a lot of people will like many of the tropes the two of them combine, but it doesn't do anything for me.
something I cannot begrudge the story, but I wish was different nonetheless: too little tetsuki! there should be so much more tetsuki all the time ;3

I decide to pick up right where the anime end, at least for the current season.
I really like the story and the growth of each character, how Koto and their unexpected friendship help support and make them grow.
