The perfect husband. The perfect home. The perfect lie?
When Sophie wakes up in the hospital with no memory of the accident that put her there, her husband Alex is by her side. He’s loving, attentive, but maybe just a little too protective. When she returns home, flashes of memory start to surface, but none of it adds up. Alex insists she slipped and fell down the stairs, but Sophie can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right. Why can’t she remember the fall? And why does Alex insist on controlling every aspect of her life, from her phone to her bank accounts?
Desperate for answers, Sophie begins therapy to piece together her lost memories, but each revelation plunges her deeper into doubt—and danger. A hotel receipt Alex refuses to explain. Mysterious phone calls. Whispers from friends suggesting there’s more to the story than she’s been told.
As her suspicions grow, Sophie is tormented by the name Amy. Is she the key to the truth, or a door to something much darker? As the lies begin to unravel, Sophie’s desperation intensifies. Can she reclaim her memories before it’s too late, or has Alex turned her life into a twisted prison from which there’s no escape?
An unputdownable psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Fans of Freida McFadden, John Marrs, and T.M. Logan won’t be able to resist The Truth She Forgot—a twisty, addictive read with a final, jaw-dropping ending that will leave you reeling!
(Sorry Alice Kaye, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but unfortunately, my reviews are PAINFULLY honest) This is the first book I've read by this author, and three words came to mind as I was reading this....... BORING.BORING.BORING! What in the world?? I started this book about 2 weeks ago, and I'm only 64% in which honestly feels like an eternity. Another book where there's an accident, the person ends up in a hospital and the victim wakes up to find she has lost her memory. Granted, that is a storyline that has been done to death, some very well. However, this book is DEFINITELY not a book that falls into the "done very well" category. This book is exhausting in its redundancy. After a few hospital chapters, which I never really like, Sophie FINALLY goes home with her husband, Alex. Let the boring, PARANOID thoughts and feelings begin. Chapter after chapter of anxiety and flashbacks on the part of Sophie, while her doting husband runs around trying to help her take it easy. Sophie literally talks to herself in her heard 90% of the chapters. Constant back and forth about her memory, and what happened and whether her husband loves her or is he dangerous? Is he having an affair, or did HE push her down the stairs...? Does he want her dead for the life insurance? Could he be dangerous?? You know what I think? I HOPE HE IS DANGEROUS and that he gets rid of boring, PARANOID, weird, amnesiac, Sophie, who after 27 chapters has literally done nothing but talk to herself. She takes naps, drinks tea, takes baths, and is mean and rude to her husband. She's convinced he is trying to keep major secrets from her and is obviously gaslighting her. There are no real details about anything in her life, but then she finally goes to a psychiatrist to help her put her very FRAGILE memories back together, and there's 5 painfully descriptive pages of the way the office and the hallway looks. Wait, what??i dont even know what Sophie's house looks like, but apparently, I need to know every detail about some doctor's office. I was determined to finish this book today, so I never have to deal with Sophie ever again! And I did it! I forged ahead, and while skipping whole pages, since it was all the same bs, anyway, I finally finished this boring book. When the ending, or "the twist" if you want to call it that, finally made it's appearance about 97% in, with about 5 pages left, it fell flat, and was very anticlimactic. It almost wasn't an ending at all! The book was over just like that. Once the book ended, I realized I would never get those several hours back after wasting all of this time reading a book that was neither a psychological thriller nor a gripping domestic suspense thriller. It was just BORING and gave me such a headache. From now on, I probably won't bother to finish a book if I can see how boring it is from the first few chapters. Life is way too short for that. Bye, Sophie! I like you even less now than when I met you on the first page... honestly, never AGAIN!!
While I’m not opposed to reading a good amnesia thriller, this one was not one of them. The main character Sophie wakes up from a bad fall down the stairs and she seems to have forgotten everything: her house, her career, her friends, her hobbies, how to drive…She remembers nothing about her husband Alex who is overly protective of her (he hides her wallet, keys and phone), insisting on keeping her home to recover. Most of the book focuses on Sophie’s partial memories that convince her that Alex is up to something like an affair or even possibly had a hand in her near fatal fall. She becomes obsessed with finding “the truth” and seeks a psychiatrist to help her recover her real memories. She goes off on these wild hunches about women he thinks Alex has been sleeping with. Her days are boring and repetitive and her relationship with her husband deteriorates as a result of her distrust of him, despite the fact that he seems genuinely interested in her getting better. Pages and pages are devoted to her ruminating about flashes of memories she gets that don’t give real valuable insight into his affairs or whether or not their marriage was even happy. She sneaks into his office, meets women she suspects may be lovers, quizzes him about work and starts following him around town. She seems both helpless and annoying. I don’t want to be a spoiler, but the ending is not what you’d think.
Expect domestic thriller suspense. Started out good but the twist isn’t quite worth it. Familiar plot and characters. However, the writing is oh-so-readable till the last page!
I liked this book, but it could’ve been better. It was a little repetitive and dragged and would’ve been more interesting if they were more drama between the husband and the wife, but an interesting way with a twist at the end. Recommended for anyone who would like a simple, psychological thriller.
Marriage can be a difficult thing. When u have an accident t and brain injury you r mind can go crazy. One persons effort to keep things the same really hurt another person Good book fast read
I truly thought I had all this figured out…but that was not to be. The twists and turns in this book were amazing…every time Sophies’s stomach clenched, so did mine. Don’t delay, read this today…you will not be disappointed!

I generally really like am amnesia book. One of my favorite genres. But this was rambling and a relentless monolog of her thoughts and worries. Never really went anywhere
