Cynically exploiting the Christmas Eve suicide of her husband Alasdair, beautiful Eilish Macbeth has turned tragedy into triumph by writing a million-selling book for children who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a parent. But then a witness emerges who claims that Alasdair Macbeth was murdered, plunging private investigator Maggie Bainbridge into a case that is as perplexing as any she ever has worked on. Can Maggie and her little team battle their way through a mountain of lies and deceit to get to the truth?
Rob Wyllie is a wonderful storyteller and it’s never been more evident than in the latest installment of the Maggie Bainbridge series. This story was the most complicated yet, and Mr. Wyllie did a fantastic job. I love Maggie, Frank, Jimmy, Lexy and Lori and I hope this series will continue.
There were a few typos, but the story was enjoyable and interesting enough for me to overlook them.
This can be read as standalone but I recommend starting from the beginning to get acquainted with all the characters.
Last Christmas, a man committed suicide while on holiday with his family. Now, a year later, a witness says it’s murder. Too bad the widow has been cashing in on the tell-all book about her husband’s death! All the team is together again; acerbic Eleanor, whip smart former barista Lori who is now Maggie’s assistant, Jimmy, Frank, and the brilliant Maggie who always figures out the twisty murders. Not a Christmas story, but a rousing good mystery.
Lot of twists to this one and again both stories come together. Convoluted ending, but all made sense in the end. Characters are excellent and believable. Looking forward to the arrival of the next chapter and babies!!!
