Launching during the 30th anniversary year of Doggystyle, Snoop Dogg’s installment of Words + Music reflects on his coming-of-age journey from the streets of Long Beach to around the world and his decision to pursue love and life over death and destruction. From singing in the church choir as a boy to meeting Dr. Dre and eventually buying Death Row Records, the evolution of Snoop Dogg from his point of view is a vulnerable exploration into the mind of a true hip-hop icon. Written and performed by Snoop Dogg with direction from Angie Martinez, and produced in conjunction with The SpringHill Company, From the Streets to the Suites invites listeners to experience Snoop’s unique style of storytelling while vibing to original live performances of classics from throughout his career, accompanied by the band 1500 or Nothin.’ Songs include "Nuthin’ but a ’G‘ Thang," "Gin and Juice," "Beautiful," "Drop It Like It’s Hot," and more as the legendary rapper takes us on a heartfelt and inspirational ride.
Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg (previously Snoop Doggy Dogg), is a Grammy Award-nominated American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. Snoop is best known as an MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable protégés. His catch phrase is "-izzle," a slang term developed by Oakland, California rap group 3X Krazy in the mid-1990s and popularized primarily by fellow Bay Area rapper E-40.
His mother nicknamed him "Snoopy" as a child because of the way he dressed and because of his love of the cartoon Peanuts; he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1998, when he left his original record label Death Row Records and signed with No Limit Records.
Snoop Dogg From the Streets to the Suites Audio Version Overall Grade: C Information: C Writing/Organization: B Narration: B Best Aspect: It was short and slightly informative. Worst Aspect: Just not that interesting. Recommend: Yes.
Got this for free on Audible and gave it a quick listen. It’s part music, part words from Snoop Dogg, which is cool and all, but with it being so short, there wasn’t much weight to it. I’d love a full length memoir written and read by Mr. D-O-Double-G himself, but this is what we’ve got for now.
Great if you’re a huge fan, but not something I’d really recommend otherwise.
This was an audible original. Those who grew up listening to Snoop will enjoy this audible. Learned a few things about him, like a gospel singer in the churches before he chose to become a rapper.
I wanted to listen to this book as I have never understood the hype of Snoop Dog. His story is a little interesting but his non stop use of mother Fu*#king and everyone is a “nigga” ruins the book for me. I am glad he has turned his life around and done some great things for people but his story could make more of an impact without the limited vocabulary he exhibits on this audio.
In this Audible Original, Snoop Dogg takes listeners on an authentic journey through his remarkable transformation from Long Beach streets to business suites. What makes this audiobook special is hearing Snoop's distinctive voice narrate his own evolution through a recount of many of his singles (you’ll hear the tracks too) and the mindset changes he experienced over the years.
The storytelling is funny and light while still offering insights into his personal and professional growth. Snoop's conversational style makes this an engaging listen whether you're a longtime fan or just discovering his music and business ventures.
While some sections could go deeper, the audiobook's strength lies in its entertaining approach and Snoop's unmistakable personality shining through. Perfect for music fans and anyone interested in the artist's journey beyond his iconic tracks.
I am not a hip hop or rap fan, but I think Snoop is hilarious and wanted to know more about his background. I learned a good bit about his childhood and early influences in this Audible Original, which also features a few of his signature songs. This wasn’t like peanut butter and jelly on gold, but it was interesting. I came away from this mini bio liking him all the more; the guy has some pretty solid values.
Fun that Snoop himself narrates it. He talks pretty fast though so I didn’t feel like I really took In Everything he was saying. I did enjoy learning more about his life, family, and friendships. He rambled a bit though and jumped around so I just felt like I missed a lot. That is just how he talks though so I guess he was just putting it on paper how it came out. I do love me some Snoop.
This was good and I wanted to give it more than 3 stars, but it was too short and I really wanted more. I would like to read a book or listen to an audiobook that goes into more detail, not just about Snoop's early life and the beginning of his story, but also how he ended up so successful with his brand.
An utterly delightful memoir! I felt as though we were sitting together as Snoop Dog reminisced about his fascinating life. He is a human of more depth and sensitivity than most of his peers. Well done.
Enjoy this little miniseries on Audible. Wish they had all here on Goodreads so I could track. Nice little insight into how Snoop came to be the D.O.G.G himself and all the good he puts out in the world. Plus some of his biggest hits sprinkled in.
Listening to Snoop Dogg tell his story in this short audio was fascinating. I didn't know much about him other than he was from Long Beach. He strived for greatness and self evaluated where his life was going and where he wanted it to end up.
Started this one because it was very short and was a free Audible book. Wasn’t bad, set up in a podcast style without answering questions. It was amusing to hear him talk about his past and sing his hit songs.
2.5 maybe 3 stars if I'm generous. It was a bit mediocre. The constant music was distracting and I wasn't too interested in it since most of that wasn't my kind of music
Audible Words + Music series. I love hearing directly from the artist a chunk of their life and experience. Snoop's lyrics always had me believe he was another typical sexist dude with an undeserved bloated ego. While I recognize it must take some level of inflated confidence to become a Star, his words in this share have me respect his humility and admittance of others having helped usher him toward the success he is today. Snoop seems to be bold but humble, hard-working and lucky, and a master of the rhymes while grammatically butchering everyday language. Id give it 3.5 stars if Goodreads allowed it.
Snoop’s voice is, of course, a major highlight—it’s always great to hear him tell his story in his own words. His personal anecdotes and the stories he shares about his career are entertaining and insightful. That said, the journey sometimes felt more like an outline rather than a fully fleshed-out narrative. Still, I appreciated the way he referenced the songs that shaped his life, and hearing those tracks added a nice touch. Overall, it was an enjoyable listen, but it left me wanting a bit more depth.
Snoop talking about himself will never bore me. His up and coming started from elementary years. He is so humble and so kind. He knows that being famous doesn't come easy and shouldn't be taken lightly.
