The Story of Joseph: How God Can Redeem Imperfect Families - An 8-Week Bible Study

Rate this book
The hope of redemption—for your family and mine.

Family. Few words stir as much affection, and as much angst.

You have hopes and dreams for your family. Everyone does. And yet each family tree holds gnarled branches of sin, disappointment, rebellion, and grief. There is brokenness in every family, but because no brokenness is too big for God, God can do a redemptive work in every family.

In this 8-week study, Bible teacher Erin Davis guides you through the genealogy of Joseph. It’s a messy story to be sure. But, ultimately, it’s a shining example of beautiful, lasting, God-ordained redemption.

As you dig into Joseph’s family tree, you’ll discover that even in the face of dysfunction, deceit, and deep pain, God is at work. He has a good plan.

Family is God’s idea. He wants to bless your family from generation to generation. As you gather with your family or friends and participate in this study, you’ll find strength and hope—the Lord is building a beautiful family for His glory.

We are all familiar with the biblical account of Joseph, favored son of Jacob, right? Joseph’s is a story of God’s divine intervention in the most unlikely of circumstances, a story of redeeming the lost years of our lives, and of the beauty of forgiveness. And, it is also a story about a remarkable, God-blessed family who, well, was more than a little messy - and messed up! The 12 sons of Jacob had their struggles and their sins, that’s for sure. The chosen ones of God, selected to be the forefathers of the mighty nation of Israel, were a very broken selection of people. And yet, God worked a beautiful story of redemption from their lives. For me, that was the most precious takeaway from this amazing Bible study by Erin Davis…. Yes, it is a study about Joseph, but it’s also a closer look at the character of our good God.

“The Story of Joseph: How God Can Redeem Imperfect Families - An 8-Week Bible Study” is one of my favorites in the Moody Bible Studies for Women series. I highly recommend it, even if you think you know the Genesis story inside and out…. I did too, and yet I still received so much wisdom, hope, and encouragement as I dove into each study session. I highly recommend this Bible study, and believe it will bring you as much blessing as it did me.

I received this book courtesy of Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Story of Joseph by Erin Davis is a beautifully written, deeply relatable book. I loved the reflection spaces throughout—they really give you room to pause, think, and connect the story to your own life. As someone who’s navigated a chaotic upbringing, this book made me feel seen and less alone. Erin’s insights into family struggles hit home in such an honest and compassionate way. Highly recommend for anyone looking for encouragement, understanding, and a little healing through Scripture.

P.S. I love you, Erin, and I miss working with you in the Author Conservatory non-fiction track!
